Terrified, the human drops to his knees, putting his hands behind his head.

Mic Chuffy |
Mic smiles and says in Goblin, "Yeeppiii, we've got a new pet."
GM Paladin |
The bandit just whimpers in terror, and he seems to have lost control of his bladder.
GM Paladin |
He doesn't speak Goblin, but assuming Mic translates:
"We didn't know it was your land! Didn't mean any harm! Your folk attacked us! Please don't kill me please don't kill me!"
Mic Chuffy |
Sense Motive: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
Mic smacks his new pet. "Bad pet," he says in common, "My people didn't attack you. One more lie and you will be breakfast instead of pet."
Poog the Sagacious |
"Yes! New pet!" Poog agrees, liking Mic's idea that they keep the human for amusement.
"But naughty, lying pets get punished!" he says, lighting his hand on fire with a fire bolt.
"We name pet Pinky. Pinky want to tell truth now, or Pinky want get punished?"

Mic taps his knife against his cheek. "It's okay Pinky. You'll be a good pet."
Poog the Sagacious |
Poog looks very disappointed.
"Yeah...me wanted pet. Let's kill Pinky...he bad, lying, stinky pet!"
He throws the fire in his hand at 'Pinky'.
Not sure if I need to roll anything if he's our captive, or if it just hits. Here's damage. I'm thinking a little damage might help him spill the beans.

"AIEEEEEE!"
"Pinky" screams as his hair lights on fire, and stands up from his kneeling position, trying to run.
Everyone except Reta, who has stated she is standing back, gets an AoO against him.
Mic Chuffy |
Seeing his new pet try to run, Mic slashes out with his knife.
I'm assuming we are surrounding him.

Not sure we really want to kill this guy...just knock him unconscious and show him we're serious.
Poog tries to knock Pinky out, but has trouble getting his knife out, surprised the man is fleeing rather than talking.

Okay, that's a lot of wind-up for nothing. XD
Mogmurch swings with great skill, but doesn't seem to accomplish much.
GM Paladin |
As "Pinky" lurches to his feet to flee, Mic stabs him angrily and the man falls down, bleeding freely.
That appears to be that. These sczarni bandits picked the wrong goblin tribe to pick on, that's for sure.
You are at the edge of the Bestest Truffle Field now. Squealy Nord and Nora are sniffing around, looking for truffles now that the excitement has died down.
Poog the Sagacious |
Poog gives Pinky a few moments to bleed and feel the pain. After a bit, he taps the human with his wand.
"Now," the evil cleric says to the prone man. "Tell everything, or Poog not want to keep Pet Pinky anymore! What happen?! Why you here!?!?"

"I'm alive? Ah... don't hurt me anymore! We were just traveling, looking for some marks to lift, or a con to run, nothing against you honest! We were just camping here for the night, or maybe a couple nights... Yes we attacked your goblins... didn't think anything of it... we had no idea goblins got as powerful as you are! I'm sorry, I'm really sorry!"
Poog the Sagacious |
"Maybe we give Pinky one last chance to be goblin play thing. Poog not think he sorry, but think everything else true. Tell Poog more about secret crime you doing. What you planning? You do it already? Tell Poog everything and Poog make sure you live."
sense motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
GM Paladin |
"Nothing, nothing! We lifted a few screws last week but they didn't have much, so we were going to wait to see what came up! There's no secret plan for anything!"
Your sense motive check suggests he is telling the truth.
Mic Chuffy |
"Okay Pinky, Hands in front of you. We'll be taking you along but you need a leash." Mic says and pulls out a rope to tie his hands in front of him.
Poog the Sagacious |
"Don't kill Pinky!" Poog implores. "Poog always want a pet! Well, have Squealy Nord pet, but want another pet for Squealy Nord! Let us take back and play with pet!"
Kind of at a loss for what to do now. We searched all their stuff thoroughly, right?
GM Paladin |
Yes. They only had a few truffles, which wasn't enough to have truffles for all of you when you got back to your tribe. On the other hand, you're here in the Truffle Field now and your pigs are starting to sniff around for them...
GM Paladin |
"Yes, yes, I'll gather truffles for you, whatever you want! Just don't kill me!" the cowardly bandit says.
Assuming you go with this plan:
You make Pinky march ahead of you as you head along a short trail through the woods to the clearing your tribe knows as the Bestest Truffle Field. As the clearing opens up in front of you, you see the familiar sight of the old oak tree and the abandoned grain silo that mark the abandoned farm that has been claimed by the Birdcrunchers. The vine-covered oak and its tangled roots are known to be the location of the best truffles in the area. Fallen trees and a few large rocks are spread out through this wide clearing. The ruined silo slumps to the northeast of the oak.
The goblins tribe is cautious about venturing to the field too often because horses sometimes graze in this area and dogs roam the meadow hunting rabbits—and sometimes goblins. The goblins have even spotted a hunter prowling this part of land who has taken down truffle-hunting goblins more than once with his trusty bow.
From previous trips over the past couple of months, the Birdcruncher goblins discovered that the hunter hasn't been seen in a while, and they determined they could return to the Bestest Truffle Field and safely hunt for truffles.
If you want to go somewhere other than the oak tree first, let me know. Otherwise, you can go to the tree and set the pigs on the hunt. Poog and Goog can roll Survival checks for their animal companions (both get a +1 bonus from wisdom). Finding a truffle is a DC 10 Survival check for the animals' keen noses. I will assume you set "Pinky" to dig for the truffles once one is found. If a goblin wants to search for the truffles directly, you can make a DC 15 survival or Knowledge (nature) check.
Mic Chuffy |
Mic is happy with his.... their new pet. He will make a fine friend to Stankrush. He looks around as the group enters the clearing.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 He looks up to the tree.
"Since when did that tree have vines?" he looks towards Pinky. "Did you know that there were no vines here before? How odd." he thinks for a moment then pulls out his crossbow and aims at the vines.

She also notices the new vines, but doesn't bother mentioning it a third time out loud. She does keep her alert high and begins looking for an explanation.

GM Paladin |
As Mic lines up a shot and fires his crossbow at the vines, Reta realizes that the leaves on the vine are turning to face them as they move, almost like they were eyes. She considers saying something, but decides to wait to see if something happens when Mic fires his bolt.
Well, something happens alright. The bolt sinks into the vine and blood-red sap spurts out around it. The vine immediately begins writhing and curling, its tendrils acting like tentacles as it prepares to strike back.
Note: Since Mic didn't make his second perception check (GM rolled) to recognize the vine as more than just foliage, he wouldn't have been looking for a vital spot and thus doesn't get sneak attack damage. Reta gets to act in the surprise round before the vine, everyone else doesn't.

I moved you to the tree as you stated.
The vine lashes out to attack Reta. It smacks her hard on her big head, and tries to coil around her, but somehow ends up coiling the wrong direction, constricting nothing but air. Reta takes 12 damage but the grab attempt fails.

Oddly, the firebomb doesn't seem to do any significant damage to the vine, just singing a few leaves.
It has fire resistance, I guess because it's a living plant full of sap and hard to burn. Goog, since Mogmurch came before you in Init order, you can change your action to something that doesn't involve doing fire damage.
GM Paladin |
I know, but there it is.
