Mic Chuffy |
Mic looks at the dog and frowns. "do we have to ride those..... Things?" he says as he gets on it.
ride: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
GM Paladin |
You don't have to ride the dog if you don't want to. You can retcon that you're on foot if you want. I'll do a stealth check for Mic. Poog, I've attached Nord's icon to yours to indicate you're riding him.
The goblin chiefs approach the campsite, being as quiet as they can, and commanding their animals to do the same. Then Reta's goblin dog disagrees with her about where to go, and takes her through a thorn bush, making her screech with pain.
All three dogs' (the true dogs at the human campsite) ears perk up. They stand up, growling, as they detect your presence. The humans are a little slower to react.
As indicated on the map, it is 50ft from the closest PCs to the edge of the map. Any of you may have drawn a weapon, such as a bow or a javelin, prior to this point, if you wish.

Cartmanbeck's Gob Pregen |
Goog would have been holding a javelin in preparation for a ranged attack.
If the way is clear, Goog would drive his goblin dog forward and fire a bolt of fire at the nearest longshanks (blue on the map). With the dog's 40-ft move speed he should be able to get close enough. Ride: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Goog, you can also free action handle animal to command your companion to do something. I will have Nora heel for now, waiting for you to command her to attack someone or something.
Goog rides his dog forward, with Nora at his side squealing excitedly, and looses a bolt of fire that smacks into the human's chest, wounding him badly.
Mic is just behind him, firing an arrow that thunks into the burned man's chest, dropping him to the ground.
One of the dogs who caught the sound of the approaching goblins first runs forward, loyally placing himself between the oncoming foes and the fallen man.
The canine's loyalty is rewarded by an arrow from Reta that embeds itself into its throat, then magically jerks around inside its flesh, slicing its arteries and leaving it dying on the ground.
You know those goblin dogs have a 50ft move speed, so you could have covered the distance to the map edge in one move. That's kind of what I expected you to do, which is why I put you that far away.

Poog casts a spell, and the human furthest from the goblins stiffens, caught with paralysis just as he began to rise from his seat on a log.
Mogmurch runs forward behind Goog.
The two other dogs run forward, barking angrily.
The humans begin shouting in a tongue that the goblins do not understand, although it sounds familiar.

"That's neat." Reta says finally in response to Poog. "Why should Reta care?"
GM Paladin |
Poog and Goog's javelins leave nasty, bleeding slashes in the flanks of the dog nearest to them.
Reta shoots another animal-slaying arrow into the heart of the dog in front of her, laying it out beside its fellow.
Mic is up. I'll give him until after Xmas to make a post since he may be traveling or something, and there isn't exactly any hurry.

Those two dogs are unconscious. Do you still want to bomb them?

Mogmurch's bomb explodes and blasts the two unconscious dogs into flaming gibbets of half-cooked dog meat.
The remaining dog charges at the nearest goblin, who happens to be Goog. He dodges its attack easily.
One of the Bandits leans out from behind the wagon and shoots an arrow at Poog. It only creases his ear, though. 2 damage to Poog.

GM Paladin |
Sad that more things aren't on fire, Poog draws his wand of fireball, points it toward the center of the camp, and fires it off.
I've called out the center of the spell on the map.
[dice=fireball, DC 16 reflex]5d6
I've drawn a 20ft radius template on the map. Please place it how you want it to come out. Unless I've missed a possible position, it is not possible for you to hit all three conscious bandits with the fireball, but you could hit two of them and the two horses.
GM Paladin |
We're waiting on Mic but I'll resolve these actions, especially since Reta needs to change hers.
Goog draws his dogslicer and shows its name is apt as he slashes across the dog's neck, dropping it to the ground with a spray of blood.
Poog sends a fireball flying, blasting the paralyzed bandit as well as one of his compatriots and the two horses. All of them are wounded grievously and collapse, smouldering, to the ground.
Mic is still up and Reta will want to adjust her action in light of Goog killing the dog before her in initiative.

Seeing the last dog dropped, Reta feels a sense of satisfaction, like an itch in her mind had just been scratched. Reta drops her bow and takes out her own dogslicer before spurring her mount forward toward the last standing human. perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Reta is satisfied that she has won and dismounts her goblin dog. She begins searching around the campsite for anything of value. perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
"Those bandits dumb to come here. This our place!" Reta says triumphantly.
GM Paladin |
The three dead bandits each have a masterwork short sword, studded leather armor, shortbows, arrows, thieves tools, and are wearing gold hoop earrings. Searching their coin purses discovers only twelve gold coins between them, and the weapons and armor are sized for humans, making them difficult or impossible for goblins to use.
South of the campsite, Reta finds the heads of the three goblins who were sent to hunt truffles, removed from their bodies and mounted on poles. A further search finds their decapitated bodies in a pile a short distance into the trees, along with their dogslicers, shortbows, and armor. It seems they did find some truffles, though, as the stew bubbling on the fire has the unmistakable odor of truffle coming from it, and a bag you recognize as one of the tribe's Special Truffle-Carrying Bags For Finding Lots Of Truffles is sitting by the fire, with four truffles remaining in it.
Further searching of the wagons reveals lots of stupid human stuff, like books and clothing, but a few items of note: four arrows with jet-black tips, a tin box filled with jewelry, a well-preserved smoked ham, three jugs of sweet mead, a wooden box of cloves that will be excellent for seasoning food, what looks like a human foot made of brass, and a strand of beads with a few gaps where beads appear to be missing.
Assuming Poog or Goog has the presence of mind to cast Detect Magic, the strand of beads is faintly magical.
Poog the Sagacious |
Poog tries to lick the beads as Goog takes them, then glares at his brother.
Once they have finished searching the wagons and making piles of anything useful, Poog sets fire to the remaining things.
"What we do now? We fight off weak humans," Poog says as he thrusts one of the gold earrings into his overly large ears. "They come back, or we fight off for good?"
I can't make the appraise check.
