Assume anyone not wearing armor has been Mage Armored and we'll sort out the charges afterwords. And I'll need to know when an enemy is Human. You can hide it in a spoiler until I make the ID check if it isn't obvious on sight.

Alright, lets do this! Break a leg!

After some debate and trying on of costumes and waving around of props, you finally decide on your roles.

A trio of aasimar assist you in donning your costumes, which is probably good, as some of them are quite elaborate... and the makeup application equally complicated.

Alvin reluctantly dons the male lead costume of the Monkey King, covering his face with an elaborate monkey mask. Amina and Lasaraleen take on the two female lead roles, but after trying on the costumes, decide to switch... with Amina taking on the role of the Wizened Crone in long robes and walking cane, while Lasaraleen eventually settles into the role of the Warrior Woman, complete with ceremonial armor and large peacock feathers springing up behind her like a plume. The polearm feels out of place in her hands due to it being more prop then a weapon, but the armor proves the bigger difficulty, as it is very constrictive and her mobility is severely reduced.

Ragnar takes on the role of the Cruel Bandit, with his face painted completely blue and holding a long wooden knife. Hugsy seems above all the theatrics, and curls up under some old scenery props stage left.

Sir Godfrey puts on the guise of the Noble Warrior, and although he is not entirely comfortable with the need to paint his face red for the part, at least the heavy prop armor and wooden club feel more normal. His shadow attaches itself to Lasaraleen, giving the Warrior Woman some special effects that make the costume look even more impressive!

And finally, both Lem and Riddywhipple take up the mantles of the Chou, male clowns with wide white circles around their eyes. Both seemingly relishing the opportunity. Lem augments his costume with a broom in the guise of a valiant steed.

You have a few moments to cast a few buffs, before your aasimar attendants lead you out from backstage!

Extended Haste, Circle of Prot. from Evil on Lasaraleen, some mage armors, a couple of barskins... anything else?

"Alright. We are dressed up. Now where is the script?"

You are led out onto the stage. Across from you another group, similarly costumed to your own, is also ushered out. This group's actors consist of The General, The Monkey King, The Cruel Bandit, The Warrior Woman, and one male Clown.

Ragnar:
You recognize at least one of the opposing cast members as one of the Aspis Agents you identified back in the tavern where this all started. Clearly you have been pitted against a group representing the Consortium!

The stage itself is empty other then the same three plain wooden chairs you saw on the way in. The curtains are still drawn, though you can hear the murmur of voices.

You hear Kiang Zhen's voice booming on the far side of the curtain.

"Legend tells of a journey, in which the Monkey King led a group to the fabled Monestary of Lao Shui, high in the Wall of Heaven, in search of the Jade Kirin Idol. It was a disparate group, some honorable of spirit, some not. Some loyal to the emperor, others not."

"But they were not the only ones searching for this treasure! For the terrible Wu Gang himself also sought the idol. Seeing the force the Monkey King brought, he used his magic of illusion and deceit to duplicate the Monkey King and his entire retinue. Then he sent these evil doppelgangers to fight... well... themselves!"

"The battle that ensued when these two forces met has become one of legend! Today, we see the re-enactment of that very battle!

With those final words, the curtains suddenly are drawn up, and the entire stage is bathed in bright light that dazzles the eyes if you try to look towards the assembled patrons.

Hmm... looks like Ilmakis was doing some sort of grouped init for the NPC's... will continue that.

GM Screen:

For reference, the enemy troupe is (colors indicate the border on the tokens):
General (yellow)
Warrior Woman (green)
Cruel Bandit (white)
Monkey King (blue)
Clown (red)

The two clowns... have fun talking up (or talking down) the action to the crowd!

Please try to limit your movement to the stage area! =)

In a whisper.
"Aspis, Be weary of deceit."

"Ah a false king! I will force you to show your true face oh weakling."

Then Ragnar will do something stupid.

Ragnar will move next to blue. He does not draw his weapon.
This potentially provokes from everyone but the clown. Though I suspect only the warrior woman has combat reflexes.

Then he attempts to grab the Monkey King.
This also provokes from everyone but the clown and green since she is using a reach weapon.

Including Haste.

Taking on the hunched pose of the crone feels strange, but Amina does her best to fill her assigned role.

Making no attempt to disguise her voice, she still tries to play along, casting a spell as she calls out Your duplicity ends now! Let the false ones be revealed!" A cascade of gold flakes coat the actors playing the General, Bandit, and Warrior.

Glitterdust DC 15 vs white, yellow, and green.

She also retrieves her wand of cure light wounds, holding it by the top, as if it were an extremely short cane.

Ragnar: All of the Aspis actors have sufficient human components for your favored enemy bonus to apply.

In a bold move, Ragnar weaves his way right into the midst of the enemy actors, to startled gasps from the audience. He is able to maneuver in and grab a hold of the Aspis' Monkey King before any of them can react! (Though he quickly realizes said Monkey King is being played by a woman)

Backstage, Hugsy hisses in approval.

Amina follows up Ragnar's maneuver by adding a light show, as the Wizened Crone creates a rainbow of cascading glittering flakes that cover the far side of the stage. Again, the crowd ooh's and ah's at the effects!

The Aspis General manages to cover his eyes with effort, but both the Warrior Woman and Cruel Bandit suddenly find themselves performing in the dark!

Would have also liked to use a couple of charges of Mage Armor on Alvin and Riddywipple, from Alvin's wand. Was also unclear if Arcane Casters got their spells back earlier (which I'd have to update my profile if so), but I would have Overland Flight on Alvin. Would also have to reroll Riddywipple's False Life if the spells are refreshed, so will do so here. False Life: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13. If they did not refresh, he is 11 HP of False Life. Please let me know what is the case so that I can mark down if my spells are refreshed or not.

Also he would like to cast an Invisibility on himself before the performance. Also means he's not Hasted.

Standard Action
Staying true to the roll and right on cue after Lem's joke, he tries to lay on some tricks. He casts Silent Image, creating of himself with the monkey mask to wow the crowd at his sudden appearance and confuse the enemies. The monkey laden gnome image appears to cling to the wall 10 ft. up. The image stares in the direction of the Aspis. DC 21 Will save for those that interact with the image. I put a token there.

Move Action
Meanwhile, the real Alvin flies up to the top of the stage. Not sure how high it is, but he will be 20 ft. up, or less if he can't go that high.

I believe you were able to get a full nights rest, despite the assassin shenanigans... (assasanigans?)

Was going to say invisible actors are a no-go... but invisible actors with visible illusory duplicates... that seems totally apropos!

I imagine most stages have a considerable bit of space going up, for the lowering of sets and lighting and such, so 20' seems fair.

Lem (and Horatio) start to work the crowd, who seem appreciative of his jokes... as do his companions, suddenly inspired. The Aspis General as well, seems caught up in the jest and can't seem to keep himself from breaking out into gales of laughter. Soon he is rolling on the floor with mirth.

As if on cue, the Pathfinders Monkey King makes a dramatic appearance, fueled by Alvin's illusory skills. This Monkey King clings to the stage wall, just over the Aspis troupe's heads, mocking their misfortunes, in proper Monkey King fashion!

The audience loves it!

Riddywhipple then comes on the scene to quite the response, no one expecting a tiny dragon wearing Chou makeup! A section of flooring suddenly becomes extremely slippery and The Aspis' Cruel Bandit, already unable to see his surroundings, suddenly trips over one of the chairs and crashes to the ground amidst applause and laughter from the crowd.

Only the Aspis Clown escapes the initial Pathfinder barrage unscathed.

Finally the Aspis get to react!

The General finally gets a hold of himself, furious at the indignity as he tries to get his feet back under himself.

The Bandit, looking more comical then cruel, manages to crawl back to his feet. He slashes out at where he hears Ragnar wrestling with the Monkey King, but is unable to hit due to lack of vision! He does manage to clear the worst of the glittery residue out of his eyes, however.

The Warrior Woman lets loose with a rather colorful string of curses directed at Pathfinders in general, before she starts wailing with her fake polearm (fauxlarm?) at the only person she remembers being close enough when her sight was taken from her: Ragnar! She appears to have some training fighting in bad lighting conditions, because with only memory and audial clues, she still manages to land the ranger a strong blow across the back. (15 non-lethal damage to Ragnar)

The crowd cheers, as the first blow is finally struck!

Even as she lands the blow, the Aspis woman manages to clear her eyesight as well.

The Monkey King calls to her allies for assistance, as she struggles against Ragnar's grasp. She tries casting a spell, managing to finish the invocation despite the hindrance! Her body is suddenly covered in slippery grease like the floor! Ragnar struggles to keep his grip!

And finally the Aspis groups Chou Clown goes. Seeing his companions struggling. He makes a half-hearted attempt to spur the crowd to their side. "The evil doubles try to win through treachery and tricks, but... er... it will not be enough!" He cries, though under his breath you hear him muttering something about the 'God****ed Pathfinders'

He steps out of the grease, glaring up at the Monkey King clinging to the wall over his head, before looking back towards the Pathfinders still wielding weapons, and casts a spell of his own! Suddenly the wooden club in Godfrey's hands starts to vibrate and make ominous creaking sounds!

Godfrey, DC 15 will save or your weapon shatters into a thousand useless shards of wood, destroyed.

And even from the ground, he manages to strike Godfrey hard across the knee. (15 non lethal damage to Godfrey) Despite the sudden blow, Godfrey still manages to reach his target, and he clubs the Aspis Clown hard over the head and he stumbles about disoriented by the blow.

The crowd cheers on the action!

Lasaraleen moves forward as well, though is having some issues with the heavy armor, her shadow following along with her despite the bright lights. Unfortunately, the clerics attempts to skewer the Warrior Woman prove unsuccessful.

Back in the far corner, Ragnar tightens his grip on the Aspis Monkey King, despite the lubrication, getting a hold of her other arm and pulling both limbs back behind her and pinning them to her back. She gasps and struggles.

Lem continues his humorous commentary to the crowd, this time focusing his barbs at the enemy Chou. Already reeling from Godfrey's blow, the Aspis Clown has no chance keeping his feet as the remainder of that corner of the stage is covered in grease, and he goes down with a angry wail.

Although the crowd claps... it seems less exuberant then it was a moment before... apparently not that impressed with the duplicated slapstick device.

The Aspis general, finally manages to clamber to his feet, doing his best to guard against the nearby foes.

This provokes an attack of opportunity from both Lasaraleen and Godfrey

All his attention seems focused on the paladin however as he takes a step towards the front of the stage. "You would fight a clown, when there is a warrior? They said you Pathfinders were dishonorable, I see now that was true!"

He swings his wooden sword at Godfrey's head, but the paladin easily ducks underneath it.

The Cruel Bandit continues trying to help the Monkey King get free, as he instinctively steps out of the grease and into what would normally be a flanking position. He jabs Ragnar in the kidneys, though the wound is not what he'd hoped. (3 nl damage to Ragnar, alas no sneak attack cause I couldn't think of a way for the monkey king to threaten while pinned!)

The Warrior Woman seems completely disoriented, as she flails about blindly with her polearm, trying to hit where she last saw Ragnar, but not realizing her ally was now in the way. She comes nowhere near and almost stabs the Bandit instead!

The Monkey King continues trying desperately to get out of Ragnar's iron grip! She twists and turns, and suddenly, the ranger's grip hits a greasy patch and she is free! With a triumphant cry, she immediately starts trying to get away from his clutches, flying upwards and away towards center stage.

The crowd gasps in anticipation!

Currently 15' up, directly over the Warrior Woman

The Aspis Clown, seeing Godfrey looming over him, and having already felt the bite of the man's weapon, desperately casts a spell from the ground trying not to open himself up to attack.

Godfrey, this is a hail mary if every there was one! DC 16 Fortitude Save, or be permanently blinded. If it works, he then stands up!

The clown is the red bordered one still prone towards the top of the map. It was the General (the yellow bordered one) who spoke and whom you got the AoO on as he stood. He is no longer prone. Is that who you are attacking?
If the actual Clown, you will need to move some =)

Although Lasaraleen fails to get through the General's armor as he stands, Sir Godfrey is able to land a significant blow. Then, despite the man trying to goad him, continues thumping the unfortunate Aspis playing the part of the Clown into the stage. He does not get up.

He then turns his attention on the General, just as Lasaraleen jabs him with her polearm. Godfrey then continues with more of the same, landing a quick series of blows that lays the second man down on the ground as well.

There is stunned shock from the crowd for a moment, then cheers!

Heh, he'd challenged Godfrey, so his AC was 2 less vs Lasaraleen! Rolled your damage for you. He now will not get to Scene 4!

Amina rushes forward, easily getting inside the temporarily blinded and gassed Warrior Woman's guard in an attempt to show her that the Crone has claws. Unfortunately she rushes slightly, and can't get through the armor.

Ragnar, having lost his primary target, turns his attention to his Aspis counterpart. Cruel Bandit facing Cruel Bandit! The one representing the Society gives the one representing the Consortium a matching kidney bruise to his own.

Lem continues his antics atop the broom named Horatio, nearly taking a header into the orchestral pit after leaping over the furniture on stage, much to the crowds amusement. He then tries to up the ante some with a helpful, if inappropriate, suggestion to the flying Aspis Monkey King. The man shakes his head, and frowns somewhat as the spell hits, but does not heed the gnome's words.

Alvin, his ruse finally exposed, fires another ray, this time at the Monkey King who finds himself unable to avoid it in time! He curses in frustration, as his first moment of freedom is suddenly cast into darkness!

Below, Chou-Riddywipple prepares for more shenanigans.

The remaining Aspis actors, realizing their success is in serious jeopardy continue to fight back!

The Cruel Bandit, not a big fan of the straight-up wooden knife fight, dodges past Ragnar to get behind him, but he forgets about the greased section of the floor, and almost loses his footing, making himself momentarily vulnerable.

Ragnar gets an AoO on the Bandit, as he tries to acrobatics around him, over the greased flooring.

One on the far side, his eyes get a look of triumph, as he now flanks with his Warrior companion! He jabs his knife into Ragnar side with extra force... only to have his blade meet nothing but air as Ragnar twists out of the way.

The Warrior Woman, her eyes finally clear, but still under the effects of Riddywipple's gaseous breath weapon, has trouble focusing on a target. Seeing her companion providing a flanking opportunity, she also tries to cut down the ranger, but her blurred vision causes her swing to just miss!

The Aspis Monkey King, unable to see, finds himself completely neutered. He rubs at his eyes, cursing, trying to clear the glare to no avail. Instead he floats up five more feet trying to catch a glimpse of a target.

Sir Godfrey is so very distracted by his change in size he fails to even notice that a spell was cast to reduce his enhanced speed. He laughs uproariously. "HAHA, I have been made great by the true power of the dragons. Nothing is out of my reach and there is glory to come from victory again vile treachery!"

The entire stage shakes under his weight as he readies himself into a batter's stance and starts taking swings at the Aspis Monkey king as if she were a ball set on a tee.

Full attack into the Monkey King, anything left over goes to the Warrior Woman if she's still standing. Leaving out Enlarge on attack rolls since it's a wash.

Yes, the attack bonus is a wash, but the size increase on the weapon is usually helpful...

Regardless!

Alvin tries to blind the Monkey King one more time, but he seems to be projecting his attacks and she manages to dodge in time, yet again. It doesn't help her though...

The enlarged version of Sir Godfrey, the Noble Warrior, proceeds to go about batting the Aspis Monkey King around like she was some sort of Tien Piñata. Her fake beard falls to the floor, and her unconscious form floats down after it soon thereafter. Neither one able to continue.

Ragnar finishes the scene, with a flurry of dull knife jabs at the last remaining Aspis actor standing, and soon the Warrior Woman joins the rest of her troupe on the stage floor, still feeling sick to her stomach, but no longer in any position to worry about it.

Combat Over!

From the direction of the audience, you hear Kiang Zhen's voice projecting above the crowd noise.

"And so it is as the tales tell." She intones. "The Monkey King and his followers were able to defeat the false images of Wu Gang, and continue on their quest!"

You hear applause resounding through the theater.

And now back to your previously scheduled GM!

Your Tengu liaison rushes up “Time for your costume change" she caws as she hands over a stack of black funerary robes. “Once you get suited up, throw these over your clothes; you’ll need them to enter the next event. Then head to the Petal District. You’ll know the way once you get there.”

Overseer thread

A crowd of black-robed mourners gathers in a small, grassy square near the edge of the cemetery. The assembly forms a procession, which winds through the cemetery to one of the oldest and most opulent plots. There, the entrances to an entire row of aging marble mausoleums stand open. Before each rests a coffin.

The procession stops, and a woman in the robes of a Pharasmin cleric steps forward. She approaches the various groups of mourners and, speaking in a solemn tone, requests each of them to hoist a casket and carry it into one of the mausoleums. Then she adds the following instructions: “This next competition is the final one of the qualifier. The Emissary lies somewhere in the catacombs below. All you must do now is seek him out and touch his robes. Good luck.” Then the woman nods and leaves, without further explanation.
