I played a multi-table special last night at a local con, got 4 hours of sleep, and now have decided I’ll let you guys track your own hit points because my fuzzy brain can't keep 'em straight. Please keep your hp updated in your stat line or put them up in your post like Sündr does - I find that latter approach is easier, because I can just go back and look at my last post and I have a record of it. If I forget to change the stat line when I read a post, it's harder to figure out later where things stand.

Thought you'd like that.

I needed a token for an animated supply sack, I just went straight to your profile and grabbed the bag!

Hey everyone, just a heads up, I'll be completely offline from Thursday night until Sunday night. I'm running 3 legs in a relay race that spans more than 200 miles. We run non-stop, so I won't be in any condition to post or check the boards until after sleeping in on Sunday.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Wow, awesome! I wish you the best of luck in your race. I won't be around much on the weekend either. I'm dropping my son off at college for the first time! I will likely be spending any spare time I have weeping...

I was under the impression that being invisible and attacking were mutually exclusive for quicklings. They are only invisible if they take no actions... Do I think there's something more going on here?

Glad you brought this up, as I want to be sure I'm playing the mechanics of quicklings correctly. They started with concealment and not moving, so they were invisible. They rushed by and attacked, moving at half speed and using stealth in order to get sneak attack - but they were visible. My description might not have made that clear, but you did see them zoom by in a blur, such that you could attack them with readied attacks.

When they move, they lose their natural invisibility for 1 round, but they're still blurry. This gives them 20% concealment - which means they can use stealth, right?. In addition, they all finished their actions by moving behind things, so you can't see them.

Anything I'm getting wrong about this? On a related note, I don't know that Scent is going to play a role in dealing with the quicklings, unless they're staying still and hiding and you're hunting them down, in which case they'll just outrun you. But Scent could be helpful in finding whoever is playing that damned music!

Interesting.... Honestly I hadn't thought about blur providing the basis for Stealth. I don't do it in my home game.

I poked around here and only came up with this thread.

You're the GM, so I'll go with however you rule. I worry about a TPK at this tier if every attack they make is a sneak attack AND they are next to impossible to target without getting attacked first.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Some interesting stuff in that thread, including references to lighting conditions. I hadn't really thought about it here, but I'd call existing conditions dim light, which would actually help with the quicklings' stealth, making things worse for our heroes. I agree about the TPK concern, which is why I wanted to get some seasoned GM opinions on the mechanics from you guys.

At the moment, it does seem RAW would allow it, though I'm thinking it makes sense that they have to at least start a round out of sight (not blurred, but actually behind a building or something) in order for stealth to apply that round.

Now that you guys know about them, you can ready attacks as you've begun to (probably focusing on stunning, tripping and similar incapacitation, like Senzo), and perhaps get positioned in some open space so they're less able to hide. I'll give others some time to weigh in, since PbP gives us that luxury.

Not sure if this is relevant at all, but if they're using Spring attack they still provoke AoOs from everyone but their target.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Hasn't come into play yet, but I didn't have that in my thinking, good to know.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

I am in fact traveling, just got off a very small, hot plane. Hope to have chronicles out in the next couple of days.

Glad everyone had a good time!

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Just started to think about chronicles and discovered something: as you know, the last vexgit in the tower, as his final act in this cruel world, continued to try to tear things apart even though he was at risk of his life. This caused the big reverberation through the tower, which I knew wasn't really going to harm any characters at that stage and which I thought would be kind of fun.

Turns out it also cost y'all the second prestige point, which was not my intention or expectation.

The morale for the vexgit gremlins (the non-combat ones) says that they'll keep tearing off gears until they're at 4 hp or lower, and the little guy was uninjured at the time, so the vexgit's action was consistent with that.

So I guess I'm half-apologizing and half-asking if there's a different way any of you would have played it.

Liberty's Edge

Female Gnome Bard 7 [ HP 49/49 (14 NL) | AC 21 Tch 13 FF 20 | Fort +4* Ref +7* Will +6* | CMD 15 | Init +3 Perc +12 | Effects: none | Benedict 49/69* (0 NL) ]

Hmm. Hard to tell what the map looked like at the time (and I don't remember), but would that count as "manipulating an object" and provoke AoOs from adjacent foes, making Sündr's death-blow occur right before the action instead of right after?

Zirt might've tried to hideous laughter him again, but *shrugs* hard to say at this point, with the benefit of hindsight.

Liberty's Edge

Human Slayer 9 - HP: 60/98 - AC 24 T:17 FF:18 - Perception +23(Trapspotter +27) Fort +12, Reflex +15, Will +8 (+2 vs Fear, +1 vs ongoing effects)

Yea I don't know if we would have known how much damage to the building they were doing to where we could change strategy.

Sovereign Court

I was, in fact, trying to prevent that from happening (although I didn't realize it was to save a prestige point!), and my intent was to position myself such that I would get an AoO if it tried anything.

So, what Zirt said.

If not, oh well. I've got other prestige points.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Well, that's a reasonable read on it, and messing about with the gears would certainly have provoked an AoO. And if we were at a table and the situation played out, I'm sure Sundr would have noticed and made the AoO - on a prone vexgit, if I recall correctly.

So we'll revise that, since I didn't take it into account in play.

Generous and logical. Thank you sir.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Okay, chronicles are done:

Badger

Rayne

Senzo

Sündr

Truk

Zirt

Rayne - the number you gave me for Rayne was wrong, almost reported the credit to Mr. Jericho. Reported it to your -13 instead, which should be the right number.

And Sündr - can you tell me what the heck your name is supposed to mean? It seems like it must mean something, and not just sound awesome.

Thanks again for playing, everyone!

I can! Sündr-dögünn is a heavy bastardization of the Icelandic phrase "break of dawn" and incidentally a heavier bastardization of "song of daybreak." "Sündr" translates, fittingly, much like it sounds (though technically the accent makes the 'u' more of an 'o' sound).

Thanks again for running, GM!

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Thanks for the name history, Song of Daybreak!

I'm going to mark this thread inactive tomorrow, assuming everyone got their chronicles.

Chronicle looks great. Thanks again!

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Just realized I forgot to roll for boons for this game! I'll take a look at the boon rules and get a post up in a few minutes.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Boon Rolls:

Badger: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Rayne: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Senzo: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Sündr: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Truk: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Zirt: 1d20 ⇒ 12
DM Khel: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Wowzers! Two winners!

Rayne: 1d6 ⇒ 5 = Niche Specialist
DM Khel: 1d6 ⇒ 4 = Genie Grudge

So those are the boons we've won. I'll need an email address for Rayne to give to the gameday organizers for when I report the game on the Gameday 5 page, please post or PM it to me.
