Greetings Pathfinder and Starfinder enthusiasts!

We’re all very excited to announce the upcoming PbP Outpost VIII! I will try to keep this as brief as possible so that folks can find all the information quickly. The theme for this will be Won’t You Take Me to Funky Town. When choosing your scenarios to run, try to choose ones set in unusual locations!

Don’t have a scenario in mind that seems to fit the theme? That’s no problem. We can help you “reskin” almost any scenario or adventure to fit the theme with a little creative thought, just ask! We have also included a list of suggested scenarios at the end of this announcement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (for GMs)

How do I sign up to GM?
Go to our GM Registration form. Fill out the form and choose which scenario you would like to GM. Please fill out the form for each separate scenario you wish to run.

How many games can I sign up to GM?
You may only GM one table of one special. You may sign up to GM as many other games as you choose, though we ask that you consider what you can reasonably handle while still providing a great experience for your players and completing all games within the given timeframe. Remember, life happens to the best of us, so please do not commit to maximum capacity.

If this will be your first time GMing PbP or you are still learning the ropes, we strongly recommend that you only do one game at a time. It’s more work than it looks.

What if I want to sign up to GM a Special?
If you wish to GM one of the Specials above please fill out this form. Deadline for submission is January 20, 2025.

Specials GM Registration Form

In addition, we require that all those who GM a special have some prior experience with GMing Play-by-Post! GMing PBP is fun, but specials are a time-pressured environment inappropriate for learning the techniques of a new format! Instead, GM something else with us, and then apply for the next set of specials we offer.

What do you mean by scenario support?
Paizo will gift you the scenario that you wish to run — if you sign up by our deadline. Not included: APs, Adventures in hardback books (eg:Dark Archives, King Maker Companions), Emerald Spire, or Thornkeep.

If you need scenario support, you must register your game by February 3, 2025.

What if I want to add a game as a GM after the August 12, 2024 Scenario Support Deadline?
That’s fine, you just need to provide your own copy of the adventure.

May I add a game after March 2, 2025, the official start of PBP Outpost VIII?
Yes, you may add a game after the official start of Gameday.Though you must still register your game through the GM Registration for tracking purposes as well as finish the game by the end of Gameday. The Gameday team reserves the right to rule that it is too late to begin a game for convention credit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (for Players)

How do I sign up to play?
Once we begin to get some submitted games we will create the spreadsheet with all of the games for General Player sign-up on February 6, 2025.This spreadsheet will be posted shortly.

What are the different PBP Lodges?

PbP Lodges

Will there be boons for Players and GMs?
We expect to be able to offer boons for PFS1 and PACS, plus increased AcP for PFS2 and SFS.

Can I participate if I am new to Play-by-Post?
Certainly! Just let your GMs and Players know. They’ll be glad to help. We also have plenty of resources available to help you prepare, reach out within the appropriate lodge so we know what you need.

When will you open the seats for signup?
We will open up early signup for GMs on February 3, 2025. This is a courtesy for our GMs. GMS, please limit yourself to 1 table of your choice and 1 Special until February 6.

General player signup will open February 6, 2025. Please only sign up for the number of games you can handle. It’s better to enjoy one or two games than to get overwhelmed. Also, please remember other people are excited to play. Even if you are a player who can handle multiple tables, please be considerate and sign up for only a few to begin and allow others time to sign up before you add more.

Wah! Why do you have so few tables of the Special? I won’t get a seat!
Don’t panic! We will be starting with only so many tables each Special. We’re doing this so that we can better respond to demand, and so that we don’t overschedule tables.

• If the table of the tier you want is full, please add yourself to the waitlist of the special you want. Being on the waitlist is the best way to get a seat in the special. List the character you prefer to play — if we can’t fill a table at your tier, we’ll give you the option of coming in with another character.
• We’ll fill new tables from the player waitlist.

What kind of scenarios fit the theme?

• There seems to be a copy/paste error in the FAQ for GMs:

What if I want to add a game as a GM after the August 12, 2024 Scenario Support Deadline?

Also, I think the theme Won’t You Take Me to Funky Town sounds great! Looking forward to play! I might even run a PBP game... well, maaaaybe...

Question regarding the scenario support: Is the module Heroes for Highdelve included? I do not know if it is in a hardback book, but I think it fits the theme perfectly - Highdelve is a town in western Brevoy in the Broken Lands.

Sadly, Heroes for Highdelve is not available for Scenario Support

Mainly because Heroes for Highdelve never had a digital release. However, if you own the print version, you could run it in PBP! It was a GenCon - only print release so it is hard to track down.

ATTENTION GMs - Monday Feb 3rd would be the last day you could get scenario support for Outpost VIII!

...if we hadn't forgotten to announce it. So get those games registered by tomorrow!

GMs who are running Outpost games here on the forums, can you please post your threads to the signup spreadsheet before February 6 (the start of general player signup)? If your game is FCFS, what's most urgent is to post your gameplay link, because your players need to be able to dot in when they sign up. If you're doing GM choice or lottery, we need your recruitment link so players can apply as soon as signups start.

If you have any questions about this or if this is your first forum game and you need help setting up your threads and campaign, please post here or ask any of the forum VOs and we'll help.

Just a quick thank-you to all the folks who organise these conventions! I imagine they're a lot of work, but they're great at bringing a ton of games online and all of us players benefit.

Question regarding the PFS1 special: Can I play a level 4 character in the Subtier 5-6 standard game?

According to page 11 of the PFS Roleplaying guild guide, for scenarios with more than two subtiers, characters must be in adjacent subtiers to play together.
Seems to me that this condition is met (provided all other characters at that table are between level 3 and 6), but I want to be sure.

(Unfortunately, there is no standard table for Subtier 3-4 of the special.)

Two hours until player sign up, right?

Is it too late to switch what I'm running? Redelia is running SFS 1-20 too. I didn't know she was?

General Seating now open!

General seating is now open for all players. While there is no limit to the number of games you can sign up for, we do ask that everyone do their best not to overcommit. We also would ask that you not sign up for tons of games at the very beginning, to give everyone the chance to find a seat at a table. Sign up for a few, then wait a day or two to give others the chance.

Remember that the 1 game per character rule still applies to PBP games, so no signing up to play in multiple games with the same character.

Yes, you're interpretation is correct. For PFS1 specials characters from adjacent sub-tiers can join tables so long as the table only contains characters from two adjacent sub-tiers (e.g. a 5-6 table can also have characters from sub-tier 3-4 or sub-tier 7-8, but not from both of those other sub-tiers). The gold a character receives is based on the sub-tier which that character falls into (e.g. a level 4 character would get sub-tier 3-4 gold even on a 5-6 table). Level 9 is the one level that counts as between tiers rather than being a sub-tier, so the sub-tier below 10-11 would be sub-tier 7-8.

Are you sure about that?

Isn't the Out-Of-Subtier rule that you take the average of the subtier played and your subtier? (Level 9 is always out of subtier and averages 7-8 and 10-11 regardless of which subtierplayed)

I am not seeing solstice scar (or any of the specials) listed as Scenario options in RPG Chronicles.

Both the SF1 and PF2 specials are in RPGC. Solstice Scar D will likely be added soon, as soon as Rox gets his copy and can get it entered.

For most scenarios that's true, however multi-table specials get called out in the Guild Guide as a special case (see the bit in bold below).

Season 10 PFS1 Guild Guide - Chronicle Sheets and Record-Keeping wrote:
Step 5: Determine the Max Gold for the adventure based on the PC’s advancement rate and the subtier played. Circle the applicable value (F). If the PC’s level is not within the subtier played (such as a 1st-, 2nd-, or 3rd-level character in Subtier 4–5), circle the Out-of-Subtier gold value or calculate the Out-of-Subtier value for Seasons 0–4 by taking the average of both subtiers and rounding up. For special scenarios with 4 or more subtiers, give the character the gold value for the tier that matches his character level, rather than the tier played. Write this value beside area F and circle it. This value represents the total gold piece value a character receives for defeating all enemies and finding all treasure in an adventure.

As you say for characters who fall between the tiers (i.e. level 9 in this case), they would still get Out-of-Subtier gold as there is not a tier which corresponds to their level.

Thanks! I was looking at a previous season instead of the season 10 guide for some reason which is why I couldn't find that, really appreciate you tracking down the citation.

OK, I'm just gonna be "that guy" and ask the stupid question because I do not understand how this works. :\

I looked at the Event Listing and found a game I'd be interested in trying. There's a Discord Link.

When I try the Discord Link it says "You don't have access to this link; This link is to a server or channel you don't have access to."

So ... what did I do wrong? Thanks.

It may not be what you did wrong; the Discord link should be an invitation to the server where the game will take place, but if the GM tried to link directly to the game you wouldn't be able to access it. Which game was it?

Radiant Oath

The Pathfinder Trials, tier 1 game, GM Hado-Ken, Roll for Combat Discord.

I see the issue. That one isn't a first-come-first-served table, it's GM's choice. The GM posted a signup on the Roll for Combat server; according to it, the plan is a combination lottery and GM choice. If you're still interested, I think I can invite you onto the server. What's your Discord ID?

Only One More Week!

GMs, with one week to go before Outpost VIII officially starts, you should be collecting player information, finalizing your tables, and making sure you have everything ready to go. While you cannot use any game text from the scenario yet, feel free to have your players start introductions and Role Play in the gameplay channels.

Just a reminder that there are still plenty of open seats available across all the game systems. Please see the Event Listing spreadsheet and sign up. Games start in just a few days!

I think I heard that boons are not to be rolled for in this, that the staff will figure that out? Is that correct?

For PF1, a roll of 19 or 20 wins a boon

Okay GMs, this is the closing day for Outpost. Most of you have already wrapped up your games and reported by now (great job, by the way), but we still have about 30 games still going. Please wrap these up as soon as possible so your players can get ready for the next adventure.

Even if it looks like you won’t finish the gameplay by May 13 we are asking you to go ahead and report your games by the deadline so that we can finish up the admin stuff and close out the convention before Paizocon. Please help us by getting these last few games reported. Thanks again for stepping up to run games. It is greatly appreciated!
