Fellgrim Cogmaester |
Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Fascinating ... did everyone feel that?
DM Kludde |
The narrow corridor ahead has a strange serpentine pattern of green glass embedded in the floor. The pattern runs to the end of the corridor before turning east to head out of sight. Kirito is here as well, looking confused.
Fellgrim manages to resist the pull of the snake as well.
Bruce W. |
Caranthir Silverhand |
"I should have anticipated that, or perhaps cast some defensive spell before entering that room," he chides himself.
Having no idea which way he is facing, he suggests they follow the hall in the direction he is pointing. south
"We must reunite with the others...they could be anywhere, and we are in grave danger separated like this.
"Wait...something just occurred to me," he adds. "Let me see if I can tell what they are saying."
He casts claraudience on the previous room to see if anyone is still there and if so, what they are saying.
survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Thistle Voltare |
"That was... unexpected."
Thistle chides himself for falling prey to the lure of the emerald statue. He nods at Caranthir, guessing mostly what he is saying by reading his lips, then follows as they south down the hallway.
Handle Animal (untrained): 1d20 ⇒ 17
He looks Kirito in the eyes, hoping to make a connection with the beast. Unsure what to do next, he pats his leg, and tries his best to mimic what Asuna does to get the dinosaur to follow them.
Handle animal is a trained only skill. I won't be able to command him during a combat, but just hoping I can entice him to come along with us. If the above doesn't work, I will pull out trail rations and use them as treats
Caranthir Silverhand |
[spoiler=Thistle, Caranthir, Jelani, DM]Once he hears back from his spell, Caranthir says "Perhaps I should scout ahead, that we might avoid danger altogether," he suggests.
stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31 haven't needed to use stealth before...but I'm not too shabby at it! I'll move ahead of the group and check out the next room and motion for them to stay put.
DM Kludde |
Caranthir can read spoilers from Bruce, Asuna and Jelani
Bruce steps forward to the statue, and he feels something pulling on him. (DC 20 Will to negate, or fail intentionally)
Kirito is quite familiar with the sight of the three adventurers here, and seems pretty calm, and eager to follow them.
Caranthir Silverhand |
DM Kludde |
Bruce suddenly appears next to Caranthir.
Bruce gets sucked in by the teleportation effect, and joins Thistle and co.
With the same flash that devoured the other party members, Bruce disappears
Thistle Voltare |
Thistle scrawls on his board with his chalk, At least we didn't end up in some pit of fire. Are the others coming?
Realizing that he can make some of his spells last quite a bit longer than he used to be able to, Thistle takes a moment to cast some in preperation. First, he pulls his ring of protection +1 off and hands it to one of his companions. Who doesn't have one? "You borrow." He then summons the divine, using one of his reserves for channeling positive energy, and channeling it into his shield.
Channeled shield wall lasts 7 minutes, and doesn't stack with my pro ring. AC is now 28 (reflected in my stat line in brackets) If anyone wields a shield, and stands next to me, they also gain the +2 bonus to deflection.
With that complete, he then casts bless. +1 to attacks and saves vs fear for next 7 minutes
Hoping that the other two are right behind them, Thistle boldly turns the corner at the southern end of the hall to see what lies beyond.
Fellgrim Cogmaester |
Well ... yeah ... I guess this is the way to go."
Fellgrim will follow Bruce ...
Jelani |
DM Kludde |
After Fellgrim disappears, Asuna is all alone now...
The party carefully moves down the hallway, following the serpent carving. The corridor just seems to move around corners, coiling in a sense.
DM Kludde |
Let's just work under the assumption she joins you before being eaten by a grue
As soon as all the adventurers are in the corridor, everyone but Thistle hears a hissing sound. It seems to be coming both from ahead and behind...
Caranthir Silverhand |
"I am afraid we have fallen into a trap, which will now close on us. Prepare yourselves!" Caranthir says.
Okay, if we already explored the hall to the south and it just coils on itself, let's head north and open the door.
Thistle Voltare |
At the front of the line, Thistle does not hear Caranthir's warning, and stubbornly continues turning.
Must... explore... everything...
I am too much of a completionist... I cannot leave anything covered up! :)
Caranthir Silverhand |
I do want to explore that...but was under the impression we just had (and it just coiled like a snake). If not, we absolutely should!
Asuna Kaneda |
Yeah joining them :)
DM Kludde |
Thistle explores the rest of the coiling corridor, while - alarmingly - from both ends of the coil huge spectral snakes advance toward the centre.
Bruce W. |
"Time to go, I'll get to work on the door." Bruce heads back and checks the door for traps before opening.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (17) + 11 + 4 + (3) = 35 +2 for traps
Heightened senses +2 to knowledge and perception, Darkvision, Investigative mind (double roll on Appraise, Knowledge, Linguistics or Spellcraft), Heroism +2 on attack rolls, saves and skills.
Thistle Voltare |
Thistle gets the point, and realizes what Caranthir and now Bruce were trying to say. He high tails it back up the winding corridor and out the door that the rogue is opening.
DM Kludde |
Bruce moves in the direction of the door, followed by the rest of the party, but a gigantic spectral snake fills the corridor and blocks passage. It advances slowly, but steadily, and looks like it cannot be bypassed. Bruce is right in the way of the snakes.
Thistle Voltare |
Thistle attempts to speak, in case there is intelligence in the spectral snakes, using the draconic language.
"Are you servants of Ydersius? We just slew the servants of the awakener above. "
sorry, I usually like to spoiler that and post it in a different language, but I'm out of time this morning and have to post from my phone....

Fellgrim Cogmaester |
Fellgrim mutters choice gnomish words as he stops with the party in front of the snake's advance, then casts ablative barrier upon himself as the encounter seems inevitable.
DM Kludde |
I'm wondering if Bruce will stand his ground, or move backward.
Bruce W. |
Neither
Bruce attempts to leap over the snake(s)
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 2 + (6) = 40 Burned an inspiration for a d6.

Caranthir Silverhand |
Caranthir casts detect magic and focuses on the snake.
Is this an illusion, or an apparition?
DM Kludde |
The spectral snakes fill the entire corridor, and radiate an aura of evocation. Bruce tries to get past them, but is pushed back by a solid barrier of force. Fortunately, he lands on his feet. Unfortunately, the snakes keep pushing on, and push Bruce backward, burning the vigilante with pure force damage in the process.
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
I hate to see such a nice roll go to waste :(
The snakes push at a rate of one square per turn. I'll assume that everybody stays out of the way, now that Bruce has figured out that pushing back is painful. Is there anything you'd want to try?
Thistle Voltare |
Is it possible to get around it? I wonder if the shield spell would stop it, like it does to magic missile. Could we find some sort of barrier to push back? Thistle will try his shield....
Thistle moves around Bruce and plants his shield on the spectral snake, using it as a protective barrier. He digs his heels in, pushing back with all his might.

DM Kludde |
Thistle tries to block the snakes with his shield, but the push of the serpents is relentless. For the Nagaji, the process is equally painful.
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
Caranthir Silverhand |
Caranthir watches intently as the serpent creature nears them.
A magical creature...but one that can be dispelled?
The elf looks for any sign that the creature might be dispelled.
I'd like to use spellcraft to identify whether this is a creature or spell effect that can be dispelled. If so, I'll cast dispel magic on it.

Thistle Voltare |
Thistle curses as the intense magical energy sears his scales.
We've all been sucked into a trap... Why did I have to be so weak staring at that statue?
I'll wait to make another action until I find out if Caranthir can dispel it... crossing my fingers
Asuna Kaneda |
"I'm more annoyed by the fact that it would have been better if we hung back. That and the fact that we have to face some magical traps. I'm so much better against foes with a heartbeat..." Asuna says disappointedly with a hint of annoyance.
DM Kludde |
To Caranthir, it definitely looks like some kind of magical effect, and proceeds to dispel it - successfully. The hissing dies down, an date way to the single exit is free.
But locked - DC 25 Disable
Thistle Voltare |
Thistle jumps when Caranthir makes the snake go away, and claps him on the shoulder. He stands back as Bruce works to open the locked door.

Caranthir Silverhand |
Caranthir smiles at Thistle and ensures the oracle can read his lips.
"I am a divination wizard. I correctly foresaw that spell would be useful on this level. If only it were always so easy," he says before turning back to the business at hand.
DM Kludde |
Bruce unlocks the door - just as the hissing re-emerges and the snakes start to reform. Speeding their way through the doorway, they find themselves in a narrow room. A pool runs down the middle of this narrow chamber. Two emerald bridges cross the pool.
You basically have one round to clear the maze before the snakes start pushing again.
On top of the bridges, two serpent folk are awaiting the arrival of the party. They are both surrounded by many illusory doubles and look blurry.

Asuna hurries in the room and sees a group of snakes which clearly have some magical powers.
