UuuuUUgh! the Serpentfolk responds to Asuna's spell, oblivious to any social interaction.

The two close in on Jelani, costing one of them a severe blow to the head. (I'll leave it to Jelani to roll for the confirmation). It retaliates by dealing a similar crushing blow, while the other one strikes only air.

Thistle moves into the room, ducking between one of the creatures and his elven bow master friend. I'll provoke an AoO to spare Caranthir... I've got the AC for it at least.

He can't quite get all the way around to flank with Jelani, so he holds his attack until the barbarian can get into place, confident no words need to be spoken about the melee tactics.

Kirito doesn't have the speed to make it into melee, so Asuna would probably have him double move into the room. EDIT: Changed to single move, just outside the room so he doesn't provoke an AoO. Seeing the lone creature surrounded, Asuna would likely conserve her spells as well... I have moved Kirito's token.

Thistle watches Jelani step forward, turning his hips forward and leading with his front arm as he swings his earth breaker in a horizontal arc in an attempt to remove the creature's head like a ball perched on tee.

Fellgrim and Thistle maneuvre up to the serpent folk, and Thistle even puts in a tentative strike. In the end, though, it is Caranthir who, with two well-aimed shots, manages to put down the serpent folk.

Combat over

Wimpering in the corner of one of the cells is a wretched, tortured serpent folk, seemingly oblivious to its surroundings. As soon as anyone steps near, he puts his arms in front of his eyes and starts declaiming: “I have given myself to you, Kro’akoth! Ydersius is a living corpse and not fit for worship. Not like you, my lord and master! Give me freedom and I will fight in your name!”

Thistle sees the pleading prisoner, but cannot hear his cries. He moves to open the door, but stops, confident he is missing some context.

He does take a mental note of the beasts his companions had just slain , noting that this jailed one looks the same.

Hopefully his friends can gather more information.

guessing from the description that he has been tortured into compliance. Not sure what we can do, but we might be able to convince him that his new god is false, and freeing him might convince him to fight for us...

Thistle approaches the beaten creature, taking the cues and explanation from his friends, and touches him on the shoulder. A soft white glow appears around the Nagaji's hand and appears to melt into the body of the broken serpent.

The long corridor bends around a corner and ends into a rectangular room. This chamber is full of statues. In the center is a basalt statue of a serpentine figure, its head wreathed in flame. A dozen smaller statues are clustered on the floor. These depict a different serpentine figure, but all the heads have been chopped off. A pathway through the statuary leads to double doors on the north wall.

Before leaving the jail cell room, Thistle opens each of the other doors, to make sure nothing is left to sneak up behind them. If the creatures in this shrine had the power of brainwashing with their torture, who knows if they might have something that was more physically capable after being turned.

Thistle casts resistance on Bruce before he enters the room, in case the search for traps does not go well. He then uses his keen eye sight to give Bruce some help.

Thistle takes in the sight of the beheaded statues, then looks back at the statue in the center of the room. His lips curl up in a mischievous grin. Gripping his Morningstar, he moves over and takes a swing at the statue, attempting to knock it's head off.

I'll roll if you want me to, but I'm half expecting this statue to come to life....

There's no life from the statue, but the morningstar does make a mighty loud crashing sound as it hits the statue - which, of course, doesn't bother Thistle at all.

Thistle notices the flames around the statue are nothing more than an illusion. Bruce comes to the same conclusion as well, and find nothing on the next door.

The double doors lead to a huge temple. On the left and right of the door are six alcoves, some empty and some with rough bedding on the floor. In the center of the main chamber is an enormous pillar of green crystal. A stone serpent is wrapped around it, its head aflame. Below the serpent is a narrow pit. In the back of the chamber is a raised altar, and behind it a wall mosaic pulses with green light.

In the shallow pit surrounding the pillar, Caranthir sees a mass of coiling snakes, but the altar is free of any presence. Caranthir does get the impression somebody in the room might be invisible.
