"Tanna! Give Ray a shot!"
Valeros moves up, keeping his shield interposed between him and the zombie.

Longsword versus Blue Zombie(Defensive): 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 4 = 6

However, being protective still, there is scarce more than longsword invading zombie personal space...

Tyranius Stormbringer |
Seeing his falchion is ineffective against the skeleton Tyranius releases another wave of positive energy to burn away at the undead in the room.

Creat the Cheat |
Creat slides through the disintegrating skeleton and stabs at the base of the zombie's skull.
rapier (flanking): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14 damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (6) = 10
Creat the Cheat |
"*koff, koff* I think I swallowed some bone dust back there." says Creat covered in fine white dust.
He steps forward and quickly checks the door for traps.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Laeowynne Faelandalan |
"You all continue to impress me with your martial aptitude." Laeowynne says to the others as a compliment following the fight. "Where to next?"
Creat the Cheat |
"Thanks Tanna! You know I always trust to your magic and guidance*. Uh, yours too there lad." He adds hastily to Tyranius.
* Hint, hint, wink, wink.
Tyranius Stormbringer |
Tyranius speaks at length to Creat giving the younger man what guidance he is able to.
Cast Guidance on him
I have seen something similar to this before during my time with the tribe. He grunts pointing out a few possible weak spots.
Valeros The Free |
"Um, Creat? Is that an arrow in your gut or are you just happy to see us?"
Valeros uses some morbid humor to take the point off the pain, while glancing to Tanna and the injury and then offering a mug of brew from his second keg.
"Here, it'll take some of the edge off..."
GM Andrew |
The trap has been "disabled" now, so I will continue with the description of the next room.
In front of you past the door is a black curtain. Once you pull it aside, you see into the room.
Heavy black curtains drape the wall of this chamber, and a thick layer of dust carpets the floor. Two sets of stone double doors stand in the east and west walls.
The description of "door" on the west wall is not entirely accurate here. Upon further examination, it looks like the "doors" are really just a depression in the wall, and the wall is a flat stone surface with a small depression to place a small object in the middle.
You feel a disable device check wouldn't be able to bypass this, and neither would the Chime of Opening. They aren't actually doors right now.
The doors to the east are normal stone doors; it's just the west "doors" that are weird.
Laeowynne Faelandalan |
Laeowynne helps Creat stumble along into the room until he recovers from his injuries.
Once inside the room Laeowynne looks around...
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Valeros The Free |
"Well, we've had a day, we want to set up a watch and a camp at the top of the stairs to make sure we don't get jumped, and get some rest?"
Valeros is on-board with 'take some rest' plan.
Laeowynne Faelandalan |
"Yes get some rest... wait down here..?! In this place...? Not in a comfy bed? Egads man! Are you serious? Cant we use the chime thing to leave and come back?"
Valeros The Free |
"We found a way out that doesn't need a chime, right? We can camp out at the top of those stairs and rest. Without a comfy bed, but if you're really set on comforts we can take different watches and I'll give you my blankets?"
Tyranius Stormbringer |
Tyranius snorts. Elves and their fair beds! He growls We can rest here just fine, a little dirt won't kill you. Tyranius slumps down inot the corner of the room.
Tanna Giantsmite |
Tanna casts light on the center stone of the roof in the small chamber and then begins to make preparations for her devotional prayers to Torag prior to her watch or slumber... which ever comes first.
GM Andrew |
As you head back to go up the stairs...
A woman stands in the center of the vat room. Her face is beautiful, yet decayed, but does not seem to have lost all of her human features. You see she even has decent, but worn, clothes on, and she has a spell component pouch by her side, along with lots of adventuring gear. She looks like she may be wearing heavy amounts of makeup to disguise her ghastly self.
Alongside the woman are two human female zombies. They seem to follow her commands.
The more intact zombie is kneeling down next to the unconscious alchemist. She doesn't seem to cry or be upset, but as soon as she hears the party, she gets up and begins speaking.
Hello? Intruders! Who are you? Explain yourselves! Are you the ones who did this to Svilennius? She speaks with conviction but also a hint of being frightful.
Valeros The Free |
"Oh, hello there. We were attacked by him, we had to defend ourselves. I'm Valeros, how do you do?"
Talking things out hopefully is a good thing, right?
GM Andrew |
She looks at you, seeming to discern if your statement is true. After a few seconds of silence, she reiterates, "My name is Esme, and this is my husband." Again, she doesn't seem too dismayed by the fact that he is badly bruised.
"You must be some sort of group? What are you doing here?"
Diplomacy checks may be worthwhile to include in your responses to those questions.
Tanna Giantsmite |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Tanna cant seem to tell if any of what the ghastly woman says is true, or if she is a threat or not,
Knowledge- religion: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
but she says to her companions, "She is a Magus or Magical Zombie. This type of zombie is intelligent, and they are not necessarily evil."
Valeros The Free |
Valeros cracks his neck and pulls out his keg slowly, and his mug, offering the 'magus zombie' a drink. It's the polite thing to do, after all, right?
"We're with the Pathfinder Society. Someone has been taking remains from the Ossu-thingy that the local Pharasma folks use for putting the dead in after last rites. Whoever did this started small but they're ramping it up. We're here to shut that down. You're not doing that, I hope?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Laeowynne Faelandalan |
Diplomacy Aid: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Laeowynne tries to assist Valeros in good tendencies of the group..."What my friend hear says is true. We came to help. Someone keeps upsetting the natural balance around here for nefarious purposes and we are here to stop them."
Tyranius Stormbringer |
Diplomacy Aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
What my companions speak is the truth. We came to see who or what is taking the bodies and nothing more, though it seems something has awoken you with magic have they not? Tyranius growls deep and guttural, his tusks grate against each other.
Was it you taking the bodies or the Alchemist who attacked us?
GM Andrew |
With those aids, you got it!
Well, I think I should answer that question with a bit of backstory. I'll let you in on what happened. She sighs.
Esme says, You may see that I am of the undead now, but I really wasn't all that much different in life as I was in death. I got some kind of incurable disease that rotted away my skin not so long ago. It was painful, and I looked horrid. I wanted to get rid of that pain. That's when I met Svilennius.
He said that he would find a way to cure my affliction. I believed him despite many others trying to cure me, and he took me down to this lab. My condition became worse, and still he found no solution.
One day, he told me that he thought of a way to bring me back as a zombie, but be able to retain my memories and thoughts. I was skeptical at first, but eventually agreed because I was nearing the climax of my disease. When I didn't wake up from the process, he thought he failed and burned up all his notes on the alchemical process he used. I rose as a zombie three days later.
I am now as I am. I don't blame Svilennius for this state... I did agree to it after all. But as time has gone on, he has gotten more and more mad and started taking bodies from the catacombs and trying to replicate his process with me, but he has so far been unsuccessful. I... I haven't left this place in months, maybe years!
Creat the Cheat |
She looks at you, seeming to discern if your statement is true. After a few seconds of silence, she reiterates, "My name is Esme, and this is my husband." Again, she doesn't seem too dismayed by the fact that he is badly bruised.
"You must be some sort of group? What are you doing here?"
Diplomacy checks may be worthwhile to include in your responses to those questions.
"So you're married then?" Creat says, somewhat slow on the uptake.
Why can I not for once find a living, breathing, beautiful, young single--and above all grateful--girl during the course of one of these forays? He thinks, remembering the beautiful Ghaele woman from the Night March of Kalkamedes.
Ray Hogan |
Ray rolls his eyes at Creat's antics.
"What lengths will he go to, do you think?" Ray asks the undead lady.
Sorry I missed the diplomacy checks, but I am travelling this week and have limited access. Please feel free to jump in and bot me as you need to.
Valeros The Free |
"Huh. So he thought you were going to be aware and intelligent but didn't realize that it would take more time for you to recover? And then he's been doing this ever since?"
Valeros is a fighter, thinking isn't his strong suit, but an idea comes to mind.
"Did he do the zombie magic thing on you while you were still alive? Would that make a difference in how the magic works, maybe? And... does he know that you're still animate, or have you been hiding from him? If we wake him up, is he going to try and kill us again?"
GM Andrew |
Oh, he's well aware I'm here. He's gone a little mad trying to recreate the process of how he made me. You can try talking to him, but he'll probably give you the same information as I.
He got excommunicated from the Pharasmites for fooling with the creation of alchemical undead, so he hates the church a lot. He used to be a member, although not one of high caliber or anything.
Tanna Giantsmite |
GM, are we talking about the guy we have already dispatched (hunchedback, tough as nails SOB alchemists) WAS her husband, or a different dude all together?
