Despite Lirianne's assistance, the wispy hand connects with the dwarf's brow, and judgment, conscience, and willpower are painfully ripped from Deaglan's persona. Orion, however, finally realizes that bad stuff is happening and is no longer fascinated!
Varian, seeing his attack at least did half damage It should have so, going based on that, he'll try again., attacks again on the most wounded creature.
Grabbing the allip by its throat area, he then slams it into the ground where its incorporeal form falls apart.
Combat over!
A couple of induced headaches are all that remain of the allips' terror. The door ahead bears a lock on it and, unlike the others, is metal reinforced.
Bah, and we just had this discussion. I blame Monday. Of course with you and Shilyn getting a round before it could react, it was still doomed. Leaving it as is.
@Shilyn: Heavy dust covers the floor of this chamber; no one has been here for a long, long time. The heavy wooden doors to the east are locked and locked well. It's a good lock; you can open it, but it is going to take some time and a few tries. If you wish, you can Take 20 and open the door in Lock time:2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 7 minutes time.

Will take the 20..
Looking at the lock on the door, Shilyn stops a moment, tapping her fingertip against her lip. "Now this looks well made," she says quietly, "I do love a challenge."
Keeping her eyes on the lock and examining it for any potential hazards, she reaches into her belt pouch and pulls out a roll of thin leather tied with a piece of rawhide.
Carefully unrolling the leather, she selects one of her picks from within and begins to work..
"Ok, this is going to take a bit. It's really well made," she mutters as her fingers come to a quick halt. Pulling the pick from the lock, she gives it a quick look. "Yup.. really really well made. Almost broke this one." Selecting a second pick, she works with both hands, pausing from time to time to push a wisp of hair out of her eyes.
until after what seems like hours.. she hears a soft *click*..
Turning to the others, she grins. "Aaand.. voila! You can tell me how awesome I am later." With a giggle, she begins to pack her tools and stuff them back in her belt pouch.
@Shilyn: The door opens. A black wind howls from below, letting you know great danger lurks down those stairs. Danger that I cannot allow you to enter :P
The only remaining passages are to the east. Even though it's exposed, those doors are unexplored.
Female Half-Elf HP 36/36 AC 16 CMB +5 CMD 18 Touch 13 Flat 11 (Melee Weapon: +1 Rapier)+10;1d6+6 (Ranged: Short bow) +7;1d6+0 F +2 R +7 W +5 INIT +3 Perc +15 Rogue 4 - Sorc 2
With her gear now stowed away, Shilyn looks through the open doors and getting a very bad feeling. "Um, I don't think we should go this way," she says. "At least not yet."
The party heads to the next chamber, wisely avoiding the dangers below until this floor is cleared.
This room shows many signs of foot traffic, loose dust visible on the floor. A number of racks and display plaques line the adjacent walls are all empty.
Another set of double doors lies straight ahead of you.
The doors are unlocked and you do not find any traps around it. With a nod, you open the door.
The last chamber bears two obvious exits. To the right is a strange misty chamber of almost blindingly thick vapor. A black wind howls from it. Ahead, the well constructed hall turns into a large cavern with a pool of stagnant brown water. It appears that a narrow tunnel continues from the cavern.
Female Half-Elf HP 36/36 AC 16 CMB +5 CMD 18 Touch 13 Flat 11 (Melee Weapon: +1 Rapier)+10;1d6+6 (Ranged: Short bow) +7;1d6+0 F +2 R +7 W +5 INIT +3 Perc +15 Rogue 4 - Sorc 2
Pulling her bow from over her shoulder, she sets the string as her eyes scan the room beyond.
perception:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Taking a step into the room, Shilyn bends down to pick up a small pebble. She bounces it in her hand a couple times before tossing it, underhanded, into the pool. Her hand quickly moves to her quiver where she draws an arrow and sets it to the string.
This is an ochre jelly, an ooze whose touch dissolves flesh. Their most dangerous trait, though is how they reproduce; not only are they immune to slashing, piercing, or electrical damage, but it also causes the ooze to split into an identical copy, albeit with half the vitality. Luckily, these oozes are slow and have poor reach for their size.
@Lirianne: The ooze quivers violently. While a chunk of the ooze does break off... it then splits into TWO. It quickly congeals and reforms into two equally sized entities!
One of the oozes can't get past Deaglan's armor, but the second one lashes a tendril at the dwarf's face, bludgeoning him and burning him with corrosive acid. Deaglan pushes away with his hammer, though, preventing it from gaining a grip on him!

"Well, now that is interesting," Shilyn mutters as she quickly draws her bow, "in a, deadly, ugly, disgusting sort of way," Her thumb barely brushes the corner of her lip when her fingers relax on the string and let the arrow speed towards the mass of goo.
@Lirianne: The smell of acrid fumes permeates the air as the oozes start sizzling, a fire still burning on the one whose gelatinous form was used to shatter the vial.

As I'll probably be at work when my action rolls around.. just in case..
"Now you tell me," Shilyn grumbles as eyes once again darken and her words slide into a short rythmic tone. Her free hand points to the middle glob of.. something..
armor cast roll.. baby be high!:1d100 ⇒ 85
and a shadowy whisp of energy flies toward the thing.
Hrm.. is Magic Missile a ranged touch? Description doesn't mention that but does say it "The missile strikes unerringly.." Have I been doing this wrong?
@Deaglan: Your heavy swing nearly throws you off as you smash the pair of ochre jellies, the latter one dissolving as its mass splatters against the nearby cavern wall.
Deaglan swings his longhammer once more at the approaching ooze and then drops the weapon. He quickly draws his axe and starts chopping the ooze in bits.
Deaglan smashes the oncoming ooze while Varian finishes off the other. The Truddite switches to his axe to fell the last ooze, but his blade has no effect on it!
They are immune to slashing and piercing damage, but it is too weak to split again
Only Ooze 3 remains at 15 damage to it. On mobile so can't edit map.
Hey guys, I'm going out of town for a business trip for a few days. I may have internet access, but I probably won't do much. I'll post when I can and should return Sept 30th.
You guys are almost done with this level of the dungeon! Also, PbP Gameday 3 is coming up just around the corner. I'd be happy to run the next floor for you for that... but we will have to recruit :( So far, only Varian, Shilyn, Deaglan, and Lirianne are active. Worse, Deaglan needs to be level 5 for the next floor and while Deaglan will get a level for this... you're going to need some GM credits to apply to make the difference.
Alternatively, I can just run a different scenario and recruit the last 2 seats.
So let me know what you would prefer or if either is good for you. If you would prefer to play a normal scenario, please list to me a few suggestions you'd like to play. I'll come up with some ideas of my own if majority of you go that route.
Human Sorcerer 9 | HP 59/59 | AC:14/12/12| F:+7 R:+7 W:+9 | Init:+3 | Perception: +10
This is a fairly well balanced party. I think we could probably do a module and 4 players, and then finish up the next two parts.
I'll be switching back for Mahasi, so you've your arcane there. One or more of the fightery type should pick up an adamantine weapon though. It is true, however, another front-liner type would be nice. I'm sure we can find someone.
If I might be so bold as to make a recommendation to Shilyn, you might wish to get damaging ranged touch spell; with such a thing you can use sneak attack at distance. Popular choices are
0th - acid splash, ray of frost ( level)
1st - snowball http://www.archivesofnethys.com/SpellDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Snowball
You can also use your sneak attack in combination with shadowstrike, although it will be nonlethal sneak damage.
Actually, I think Shilyn retraining her sorceror level with either bard or magus as both classes allow casting in armor and could grant some useful benefits for her.
Unfortunately I do not have the GM credit available to push Deaglan to level 5. A module sounds like a good idea. Fangwood Keep seems to be perfect for our level range.
However there is one catch with that one: I will GM it myself in online GD3, so will have quite good knowledge of the module. I do not mind (that much) as Deaglan is not the most knowledgeable dwarf. However it's only fair to mention it.
I'd rather not do a normal module due to the fact that I'm not sure if we can complete a standard module within the time frame (the Thornkeep levels tend to go by quickly due to the overall lower number of events and encounters).
That being said, I am open up to suggestion. I'll take a look at Fangwood. Another option is of course Emerald Spire, although I can understand the reluctance in just doing a single level there without going back to it.
For right now, here are my suggestions:
Carrion Hill (I have the PDF of it and the creepy vibe is perfect to start of PbP GD3 if I feel like doing a module)
Silver Mount Collection (3-7 with more Blakros Museum goodness!)
Among the Dead/Among the Living double pack (1-7 with creepiness; they can go by pretty fast and both scenarios can be run over the time period)
I'll reread Carrion Hill to see if I feel comfortable pushing that out for the PbP GameDay, but review the options and let me know how you feel!
Human Sorcerer 9 | HP 59/59 | AC:14/12/12| F:+7 R:+7 W:+9 | Init:+3 | Perception: +10
I am going to be the difficult one here, due to a fairly large number of adventures I've played. My vote would be Carrion Hill. Long times don't bother me overmuch.
I am available to run many things as well if you want a break.
Alright, I'm going to TRY and see if we can power through Carrion Hill. You guys are at the last encounter and I don't foresee any deaths, so I'll work on to hand out by next week :)
That being said, some family stuff came up so I won't be posting much from Thursday to Sunday.

Interesting recommendations and definitely something to think about.
Bards and magus' (magi?) however, still incur the casting penalties for non-bardic spells..
"A multiclass bard still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for
arcane spells received from other classes."
"A multiclass magus still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes."
Since Shi is part sorceress (thanks to a run-in with a shadow.. literally), the armor penalty is still there. Because she's cast more of late than practice her rogue combat skills, i'll probably pick up one more level of sorc which will give me a couple more zero-level spells (and hopefully some offensive power in that vein).
She's still discovering what effects that shadow had on her.. so who knows where it'll lead.. (plot twists?)

BPC was referring to using the retraining to replace the sorcerer level, not take a complementary class. However, it's clear for character development reasons you prefer to keep the sorcerer one.
One common things to help for casting without spell failure:
- Take "no somatic" spells - these do not suffer from arcane spell failure (that is, problems with armor). Such spells include:
0th:
*Flare
1st:
*Feather Fall (recommended)
*Hold Portal
*Liberating Command
*True Strike (recommended)
*Ventriloquism
There are some higher level spells as well, but you would have to take 4 levels in sorcerer to worry about those.

Hence the problem. Shi's character concept is that her mother was a sorceress and father a scout (rogue). She was 'daddy's girl' of sorts as she loved sneaking in the woods and riding horses more than studying magic.. so she became a rogue but had latent magic (started with wiz mark as being the only spell she could ever 'master' so to speak). Her encounter with the shadow kind of brought out her latent magic and since it was a 'shadow', it linked her spells to the shadow realm (sorc blood line if you will).
So yes.. keeping with the character concept.. she's stuck with armor interference (or go full 'squishy'). We'll see how she develops as she grows. :)

Well, you look to be rolling with basic studded leather. Spend 2 prestige to pick up a wand of mage armor - 50 charges, each one will give your +4 armor for 1 hour, plenty of time to get through many dungeons (and you'll never use up all 50 charges). Ditch the studded leather.
It's a solution of sorts. :) If you ever get lots o' money, pick up bracers of armor +5 or +6.
Another possibility, since rogues don't have a whole lot of swift action stuff, is to get the Armor Training Feat as you gain a few more sorcerer levels. With that and a mithral chain shirt, that'll negate your armor check penalty.
Course the Wand o' Mage Armor is a fairly useful idea too.
Hey guys! So I created a new thread for the campaign as this was Brayden's thread originally and it's finally time to leave it be. Please go to this thread as the new campaign thread for not only the Carrion Hill game but for finishing up Thornkeep.
I also put in a recruitment thread to get one more PC to join the four of you. In this case, I'm going to let you know of the candidates and let you vote on who should enter the fray. The deadline I'm putting for submission is Oct 30th and give you guys until Nov 2nd to decide then get started on the 3rd.
Chronicles will go out by tomorrow so you can fully level, but everyone is getting 3XP, 4PP, and 4800 gp.
