"I am not counted among the wise," says Fletch, "But I must say I can't see anything terrible in these. What do you see?"

Sovereign Court

Alie pulls out the map they had taken from the deceased man's room at the gathering earlier. "What do these initials mean to you, then?". She suspected most of these had to do with the names listed in the notes.

"My execution of the murderer Hestram was authorised by the revolutionary council." says the man quite calmly.

"It is sad that the fates have cast you on the same side as such a vile murderer. My investigation proves Adril Hestram murdered the previous lord of the Raven’s estate, and that he and some very unwholesome associates are up to no good in the Maze of the Open Road, striking at sites throughout Golarion for unknown purposes."

A perusal of the table contains various statements extracted from dead, including one from Teppin Montrose himself who identified Adril Hestram by name as his killer.

Silver Crusade

Male Elven (13.0A) Pal (Divine Hunter)11 / Ftr 2 HP 95/95 | AC 20/T15/FF16 | F +19/ R +15/ W +16 | CMB +17; CMD 32 | INIT +6

"But why would Adril use the Maze of the Open Road for assassinations? Did the Decimvirate assign him to do it?"

Kalendir asks the man as everything doesn't seem to be adding up.

Lantern Lodge

SFS 05-99 BftB

"That, perhaps, would be a question best put to your decimvirate..." suggests the man.

"However if they did, then that would put me in a difficult position, as I believe my charge would put me at odds with them."

He shuffles his feet slightly.

"But I don't think that is the case. It may be you are best returning through your maze to see if this Osprey and Eliza know any more. These letters would tend to indicate they had their own suspicions..."

Liberty's Edge

Lawful Good Dwarf Monk (Unchained) 15 (Sheet) (Equipment) | HP: 169/169 | AC: 39 (30 T, 35 F) | CMD: 50 | F: 20, R: 19, W: 18 | Init: 10 | Perc: 25 | Speed 70, fly 90 (good) |

Well, we saw he was tracking the Decemvirate on that map he had and the initials on that map seem to closely match those on the map of the maze we found in the Raven's Roost. Which means not only are the movements of the Ten being tracked, but I think someone is plotting a way to get to them through the Maze of the Open Road.

I hate to think it's true, but I'm beginning to suspect that Adril Hestram may have been trying to assassinate the Decemvirate.

Silver Crusade

Male Elven (13.0A) Pal (Divine Hunter)11 / Ftr 2 HP 95/95 | AC 20/T15/FF16 | F +19/ R +15/ W +16 | CMB +17; CMD 32 | INIT +6

"Why would he betray them like that though?" Kalendir looks to the man. "Would you be wiling to come with us and speak with Osprey and Eliza?"

Lantern Lodge

SFS 05-99 BftB

The man gestures to the chaos in the courtyard outside.

"I would prefer to try and settle the situation here. It would appear the revolution has taken an unexpected turn, and some of the citizens may be in significant danger. If you insist I will accompany you back, but I can remain away for only so long before things excel ate here.."

It's pretty obvious he would prefer not to return to the lodge

"Well, let's head back to the Losge. We know where to find this guy if they have proof he is lying. And you'd better not be lying," Alie warns.

You return through the caverns, and then the maze of the open road. Once you emerge from the maze, servants take you straight to Osprey and Eliza.

Eliza and Osprey leap to their feet the moment the servants bring you into the Lodge’s Great Hall, where the Red Raven first attacked Adril Hestram and drew you into this mess. Both have been nervously awaiting your return.

You’re back!” exclaims Eliza, her face lighting up with a bright smile. “I trust you tracked the murderers to their lair?

Osprey steps forward. “Well,” he says expectantly. “What have you learned?

Nuuuu, it ate my post again!

Nodding at Alie's comment, Morrin looks at the man, "While it would have been nicer to meet you under better circumstances, I hope that you can help as many citizens as you can and that the situation clears up sooner than later. We will return with haste though, if we believe your actions have deemed your words false. May Desna's blessings help you along your travels."

------------------

"It seems that Adril may have had many enemies, which I understand, but also had an assassin sent after him. Supposedly he had killed a man who held high influence around the area, and had a hit put onto him. I don't recall the name at the moment, but as for the assassin, he seems to be fighting for the citizens of Galt, and has been vouched for by a bird of fire. That, and we stopped his execution.

I think I understand what happened," Tortuga added glumly.

"The assassin, called Aric of Halvon, came after Adril because investigated the murder Teppin Montrose. Adril Hestram was implicated in that murder through the investigation of Aric who was authorized to dispense justice."

"We had found a map of the Maze of the Open Road in Aric's hideout with the names Montrose, Keel, Shemis, Kyalls, and Prince Odrian written upon it. Coincidentally the initials we saw on the map in Adril's room were TM, K, EK, and S, with a note about O."

"Magic divinations uncovered that these initials, corresponding to the names on the maze map, are those of members of the Decemvirate."

"Therefore, I must sadly conclude, based upon the evidence uncovered by our own investigation as well as the investigation of Aric of Halvon, Adril Hestram murdered Teppin Montrose, who was one of the Ten."

Okay, maybe I'm reading the wrong stuff. Where are these notes to which you are referring? I read what was in the MAPS! link, above.

You learned some of this by speaking with the corpse way back here

The two senior pathfinders look to each other in concern.

"There may be magic that can prompt more answers from Adril's body..." Eliza says as she leads you back to the VCs room where he was left to lie in state.

However after unlocked the door... the body is gone.

Dum, dum, dummmmmmm

And that concludes the rather long part 1. I'll try to finish chronicles tonight. I'll also make a new thread for part 2. You each gain 23k gold on the chronicle, so you may want to start thinking about what you want to spend that huge sum on.

Slide 4 contains the Edict for Aric to find and bring to justice the murderer of Teppin Montrose.

Slide 7 contains a path to Montrose from the Maze of the Open Road.

Slide 2 is the map we found in Hestram's quarters. The initials correspond to the names on the map on Slide 7.

TM - Teppin MONTROSE
K or EK - KEEL
S - SHEMIS
EK or K - KYALLA
O - Prince ODRIAN

We verified that the initials belong to the Decemvirate through Speak with Dead. The correlation between the names on one map and the initials on the other are too strong to just be a coincidence.

Kalendir gasps underneath his mask as the door is opened to reveal Adril Hestram's missing body.

"But...but we saw him killed. How could his body vanish? Are there more working with him?"

The two senior pathfinders look at each other with a mixture of concern and horror. "The mystery deepens" sighs Eliza. "But while things look bad, we don't know for sure it was Adril, and even if is was... why he would do such a thing.."

She calls for a servant to bring food and drinks and set up in the meeting room. "Please, take a bit of time to freshen up, and then join us in conference..."
