Yes. I am at full health now.
Alie Saechel |
"Well, I can't think of anything else to do other than to head on into the maze... anyone else have any bright ideas?"
GM Aerondor |
The shadowy pathways stretch and turn, surely taking you outside the dimensions of the maze as viewed from the lodge’s rear lawn. The leafy walls virtually bristle with enchantment, and the atmosphere thrums with the sense that once inside the Maze of the Open Road, you have somehow left the mundane world behind. At irregular intervals side paths branch off from your chosen corridor, leading who knows where. After several minutes the path widens to reveal a long causeway roofed by crumbling marble arches.
Far up ahead the stone pathway opens onto a large plaza containing a handful of ruined stone structures, ancient buildings that look like abandoned temples. An enormous marble colossus of a robed figure looms upon a pedestal at the center of the courtyard, looking down upon a field of lifelike statues arrayed in a chaotic pattern. All bear terrified looks and are posed in grotesque defensive postures, arms out to stave off some unseen danger.
Tortuga |
Tortuga wasn't a tracker, but he would occasionally look around for signs of people having recently passed through here.
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24 (+2 if it involves stonework)
Kalendir |
Kalendir pulls his mask tightly to his face as he peers out of the single eyelet. "This is unsettling." He says as she slowly and meticulously moves between the statues, looking at each one for any sign or clue.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
GM Aerondor |
The statues are most lifelike. As for signs of recent passage.... that is more of a survival check.
Alie Saechel |
Alie pulls out a wand and uses a charge, covering herself with Mage armor. She then pulls out her rod of Piercing, thinking it may come in handy sooner rather than later
Morrin the Stout |
The invisible innkeep floats about, attempting to keep an eye on the group while looking out for dangers. The statues did impress the man quite a bit, as they were quite lifelike, eerily so. The sight also unnerved him enough to pull out his dagger.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
"Think we could take one of these and use them all lawn ornaments?"
Kalendir |
Moving from the life-like statues Kalendir investigates the building and the Colossus standing in the center of the square. "Why would the Society have built something like this in the Maze?"
Tortuga |
Anyone good at looking for tracks?
GM Aerondor |
Morin thinks the statues are all very lifelike. The one on the plinth, while finely crafted, is perhaps a shade less lifelike than the others.
Wynnreyell Moonsilver |
survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Wynn takes a look at the tracks, not quite sure what he is look at. The statue seem to unerve him a bit.
These statues seem to life like. I have faced a magical creature which has a gaze that can turn to stone. We should proceed with caution.
GM Aerondor |
There are signs of recent travel through the maze. Quite a few people recently passed this way. (like in the last hour or three)
Wynnreyell Moonsilver |
Wynn moves to the front ahead of Alie. Arrow knocked and at the low ready.
I'll take point, if it's an ambush, I can handle it. Traps, not so much. Just be ready to offer some support, like you did in the mansion
Tortuga |
I can probably spot a trap before it goes off, but can't do much more about it. i'm willing to take the lead as long as someone tells me which way to go.
Wynnreyell Moonsilver |
Wynn moves up to the covered bridge and scans the area..
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Kalendir |
Kalendir follows closely behind. "We don't have time to take this 10 feet at a time. We need to spring forward and just hope for the best. The Venture Captains would have told us of any traps laid by the Society and the enemy hasn't had a lot of time to set any behind their retreat." He says as he analyzes the situation, moving behind a fallen pillar for cover as his bow is drawn.
Of course unless someone sees something bad. :)
GM Aerondor |
You notice two side courtyards near the large ornate statue. Each has further statues within it.
When someone moves their figure up, I'll uncloak the map depending on what you can see.
"Fletch" |
Sorry. Busy couple of days. I am, in fact, not bad at tracking.
Survival: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28
Fletch signals his lupine companion and they move up to carefully scout ahead.
Fletch Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35
Romulus Perception (and Scent!): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
GM Aerondor |
Fletch is pretty sure that in addition to the dozen or so figures that came this way a few hours ago, two others have been past more recently... and heading in the same direction as you are.
In the area to the left age has conspired against the brittle structure, which must once have been a small chapel. The ceiling collapsed long ago, and huge gashes in the walls suggest that the rest of the place might topple to the ground any minute now. A bulky stone statue at the center of the building is difficult to make out from the causeway, but appears to be a giant serpent of some sort.
To the right so damaged are the walls of this roofless structure that the building’s original purpose is impossible to determine. Amid the rubble within stand five statues of primitive human men, Mwangi warriors by the looks of them. Each wears a simple grass skirt and bone fetish necklaces, and each also bears a considerable length of chain.
Even as you watch, the statue from the old chapel seems to shrug off its stony shell, and speak.

Tortua advances, as does Moprrin and Wynn. Wynn puzzles at the snake worman for a moment before realising she is a guardian naga, a normally good aligned aberration - they are powerful spellcasters and known to have a poisonous mouth.
Kalendir readies an arrow.
@Kalendir, which statue are you readying your attack against? The snake woman who is no longer a statue, or the large one on the path?

Delay. Why so trigger happy. Initiative does not always mean combat after all. May not be a bad guy, there was no monologue ;)
Tortuga |
Seeing that Tortuga is likely going to be the target of opportunity against all these warriors, the first time he's attacked he'll spend a ki point as an immediate action to activate furious defense gaining a +4 Dodge bonus to AC until the end of his next turn.
Also, if any of the warriors try to get past me, I will use my AoOs to make trip attacks, +24 CMB. Up to for attacks per round.

Well, these guys attacked me first!
Just double-checking that you were comparing your attacks to my augmented AC of 41, 37 is my AC without the +4 dodge bonus.
Tortuga shoots out a leg at the orange warrior, trying to take out his knee. He then unleashes a flurry of kicks against both orange and blue.
On all these attacks, Tortuga will deal non-lethal damage except for the vicious damage, which I think has to be lethal. Remember to add 4 to all the attacks against a prone target.
