"Well, I can't think of anything else to do other than to head on into the maze... anyone else have any bright ideas?"

Lantern Lodge

SFS 05-99 BftB

The shadowy pathways stretch and turn, surely taking you outside the dimensions of the maze as viewed from the lodge’s rear lawn. The leafy walls virtually bristle with enchantment, and the atmosphere thrums with the sense that once inside the Maze of the Open Road, you have somehow left the mundane world behind. At irregular intervals side paths branch off from your chosen corridor, leading who knows where. After several minutes the path widens to reveal a long causeway roofed by crumbling marble arches.

Far up ahead the stone pathway opens onto a large plaza containing a handful of ruined stone structures, ancient buildings that look like abandoned temples. An enormous marble colossus of a robed figure looms upon a pedestal at the center of the courtyard, looking down upon a field of lifelike statues arrayed in a chaotic pattern. All bear terrified looks and are posed in grotesque defensive postures, arms out to stave off some unseen danger.

Kalendir follows closely behind. "We don't have time to take this 10 feet at a time. We need to spring forward and just hope for the best. The Venture Captains would have told us of any traps laid by the Society and the enemy hasn't had a lot of time to set any behind their retreat." Fletch is pretty sure that in addition to the dozen or so figures that came this way a few hours ago, two others have been past more recently... and heading in the same direction as you are.

In the area to the left age has conspired against the brittle structure, which must once have been a small chapel. The ceiling collapsed long ago, and huge gashes in the walls suggest that the rest of the place might topple to the ground any minute now. A bulky stone statue at the center of the building is difficult to make out from the causeway, but appears to be a giant serpent of some sort.

To the right so damaged are the walls of this roofless structure that the building’s original purpose is impossible to determine. Amid the rubble within stand five statues of primitive human men, Mwangi warriors by the looks of them. Each wears a simple grass skirt and bone fetish necklaces, and each also bears a considerable length of chain.

Even as you watch, the statue from the old chapel seems to shrug off its stony shell, and speak.

Speak Celestial:
"Forgive me Kyalla. I wasn't fast enough!"

Delay. Why so trigger happy. Initiative does not always mean combat after all. May not be a bad guy, there was no monologue ;)

Seeing that Tortuga is likely going to be the target of opportunity against all these warriors, the first time he's attacked he'll spend a ki point as an immediate action to activate furious defense gaining a +4 Dodge bonus to AC until the end of his next turn.

Also, if any of the warriors try to get past me, I will use my AoOs to make trip attacks, +24 CMB. Up to for attacks per round.

Fletch delays for the moment.

Romulus sniffs the air.
direction: 1d6 ⇒ 1
And steps left.

Fletch:
Romulus smells something nearby. But you are not sure what.

The warriors swarm forward, over the walls trying to surround Tortuga as they lash our with their spiked chains and roar in some savage language.

rolls:

first attacks: 5d20 ⇒ (19, 1, 9, 20, 13) = 62
second attacks: 3d20 ⇒ (18, 17, 11) = 46
crit?: 1d20 ⇒ 12
damage: 4d4 + 16 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 3) + 16 = 30
Lightning damage, Ref 17 for half: 9d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 3, 3, 5, 4, 2, 5) = 34

In spite of the skill of the warriors, most of their attacks miss, still a couple do hit home, drawing blood from the valiant monk.

Nice time to use that +4 to AC!

Meanwhile a voice cries out in common, from somewhere near Romulus.
"Sorry! I'm so sorry!"
A bolt of lightning cuts through the air of the maze, scorching Romulus, Kalendir, Wynn and Morrin.

Well, these guys attacked me first!

Just double-checking that you were comparing your attacks to my augmented AC of 41, 37 is my AC without the +4 dodge bonus.

Tortuga shoots out a leg at the orange warrior, trying to take out his knee. He then unleashes a flurry of kicks against both orange and blue.

On all these attacks, Tortuga will deal non-lethal damage except for the vicious damage, which I think has to be lethal. Remember to add 4 to all the attacks against a prone target.

Primary Attack 1 + Leg Sweep:
If this attack hits, he get's to make a free trip attempt.
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1, 8) + 5 = 15 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 2
trip attempt: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (10) + 24 = 34

If the first attack trips orange, he spends an AoO to use Vicious Stomp along with stunning fist. Fort DC 22 on a hit or he is staggered for 1d6+1 rounds.

Vicious Stomp Attack:
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 5, 2) + 5 = 13 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Primary Attack 2:
Against Orange unless already down. Will include a stunning fist attempt here if not tripped. Fort DC 22 on a hit or he is staggered for 1d6+1 rounds.
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) + 5 = 16 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 5

If the stunning fist attack hits and the warrior is staggered, Tortuga gets 2 free attacks due to Medusa's Wrath.

Medusa's Wrath Attack 1:
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 5, 3) + 5 = 16 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Medusa's Wrath Attack 2:
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 7, 4) + 5 = 24 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 5

The third Primary Attack will be replaced by a trip attempt against Blue.

Trip Attack:
trip attempt: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (15) + 24 = 39

If this attack trips blue, he spends an AoO to use Vicious Stomp

Vicious Stomp Attack:
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 2, 6) + 5 = 19 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 2

If orange is staggered or unconscious will switch to blue for the iterative attacks. Otherwise switch to blue once orange becomes unconscious.

Secondary Attack:
attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3, 1) + 5 = 11 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Tertiary Attack:
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) + 5 = 13 bludgeoning, cold iron, lawful, silver, magic
vicious energy: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 1

3 Potential Crits!

Confirm Primary Attack 1:
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 8, 2) + 5 = 21

Confirm Primary Attack 2:
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 8, 6) + 5 = 22

Confirm Tertiary Attack:
attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
damage: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) + 5 = 13

@Tortuga, nope, just the 37. So one extra missed.

The monk trips the warrior in orange furs and then kicks him repeatedly.
But doesn't stagger him. He turns for a moment to trip the blue warrior and then continues kicking the one in orange until he falls unconscious.

The bolt of lightning seems to have nearly missed Morrin as the man's instincts force him to dodge most of the blast, with his clothes slightly singed. Turning back towards the onslaught of men, electricity begins to flow from the air and into an outstretched hand. Taking a deep breath, Morrin points towards the red warrior and fires off a blast of extremely bright electricity.

Maximized Electric Blast, Point Blank Shot, Cover : Touch: 1d20 + 16 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 16 + 1 - 4 = 16
Electric Damage: 36 + 9 + 1 = 46

No worries, I was planning on doing that. Also, Morrin is quite visible at the moment since he has been focusing on attacking every round.
