I'm going to presume you guys are talking while heading to the van.
You head to where you were told the van would be. While the airport traffic, pedestrian and otherwise, is thick, no one seems particularly interested in your group. As you approach the parking garage, you notice a white van parked near other commercial vehicles. Standing outside is a man who doesn't fit the description of Al-Salahar at all.
Feel free to describe yourself, Macomb.

Natalie Burns |
Anytime you feel the need to move us forwards, by all means. My old PBP GM, Rev Rosey, always had the habit of ensuring we stayed in motion, as well as making battles slightly harder for bonus XP (so we could actually level in game)
Natalie gives a look about the area, as she notes the driver (who most likely sticks out? We'll see!).
Notice1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15 which is my result cap, fitting.
She says softly, before approaching Macomb, "Well this is the driver, do we have a call and response?"
Timothy K Smith |
Smith pulls out his knife and says, "Ward, put the damned gun away, we are in the city right next to the airport.. too many witnesses."
He then moves quickly and with purpose towards the driver and says "This right here my friend is a Gerber Mk2 combat blade, this particular knife slides simply and quickly betwixt a man's ribs just so, codename? or your left lung will start whistlin'"
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
I'm not sure what happened to Razor, but I left it through the weekend so, let's move forward.
The man standing at the van seems to notice something about you that satisfies him. "You must be Smith, "he says, nodding to the knife at his throat. "Ward, the pretty boy and Natalie, a flower among the weeds. "He holds out his hand. "Macomb. Company sent me to make sure you get home safe when all this is done. "

Natalie Burns |
Natalie looks over to Timothy, "I'm more likely to think that if someone was already 'onto us' that they'd have just shot someone in the head by now."
She looks to any nearby rooftops, "Let's just get on the road, we can vet him in transit if you need any more confirmation than names...."
You seem trustworthy, join our quest!
Johnny "Razor" Macomb |
How about we put that knife back in its sheath until there is someone not on your side to stick it in. Also after saying your real names how about you catch me up on your cover identities as we drive.
Macomb seems to have nerves of ice and barely flinches after having a gun and knife pulled on him. He stands about 5'-11" weighing in at a fit 195 lbs. He has short cropped dusty red hair and cool brown eyes. He has a toothpick in between his teeth that he was chewing as the group of agents approached. He flicks the toothpick away and gets behind the wheel of the van.
Well hop in folks and does one of you mind telling me where we are headed.
Natalie Burns |
Natalie eyes the other two, then gets into the van. "Alright Macomb. Red Cross aide and advocate, Cynthia Betterman. I'm here to organize relief efforts for the locals, I've been using my assets to try to lobby Mr. Chandler here." She looks sidelong at Jason, "to invest his not-inconsiderable funding to donate to the relief effort, so I can finally get out of the third world, and onto the managerial level."
Jason "Snake" Ward |
Jason climbs into the back of the van. "Save the orphans, feed the whales. That sort of stuff is what I'm all about, Mister Macomb. Sorry about the gun, though. Many a business deal has gone sour and I've learned to be prepared."
Jason whispers to Smith, "Smith, how about you sit up front and keep an eye on our new friend, ey? Make sure he's who he says he is."
Timothy K Smith |
Smith grumbles under his breath about the amatureishness of the op so far, sheathes his Mk2 dagger and hops in the van and says, "Blowing our cover on the streets of Karachi near the airport no less, you never know when the opposition is nearby. The sovis are an extremely clever, lethal bunch... you need to always watch your six."
Macomb, no offense bra, would have made more sense to meet you at the safehouse not in the street. Smith is a gritty, Vietnam Vet Airborne Ranger with many mercenary tours in Rhodesia. Somewhat of a Cat Shannon from Dogs of War, mixed with Col. Mackensie from SOF Magazine and but a little George Smiley as well.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
GC hint: remember that one of your missions is to establish a new safe house after visiting the old one and determining if it is still safe.
The drive out of the airport and into Karachi itself goes relatively unhindered. After about 20 minutes, you arrive at a rather dilapidated part of town. It looks like no one has actually lived here in quite some time . This is the correct address however, you verify this after looking at handwritten street signs. The place you are looking for in particular has a ramshackle roof and a somewhat blue siding mixed with grey peeling paint. Nothing really registers as out of place, until you see the BMW parked right out front.

Mr. Ward that is a fine automobile no doubt but they can also be of little doubt how few of those vehicles are around this area. Not exactly the best means of transportation for those trying to not stand out too much. I doubt the Red Cross wants to start their criminal record with some GTA.
Macomb exchanges a knowing glance with Smith in the passenger seat.
Natalie that sounds like a good idea. Let's drive by, park and then circle back on foot, gaining multiple good sight lines. After establishing a non threatening situation I suggest a pair approaches while under cover by the other two.
Razor keeps the van at a steady place not slowing or speeding up as they pass the "safehouse"
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 Razor takes a quick glance at the safehouse and BMW.
Any objections Mr. Smith?
Timothy K Smith |
Smith looks out about up and down the road and then says, "Macomb, I suggest we park a couple blocks away. This is way too suspicious for my taste. Either we're blown or Al-Salahar is an idiot. About the intel in the car, you'll probably find the registered owner of the car, if any. But seriously a bunch caucasians diddly bopping around this part of town during the day is most definitely going to cause more suspicion. I would suggest we stake the place out till after dark. "
Johnny "Razor" Macomb |
Agreed about parking a few blocks down the road. Thought that was implied by the suggestion to drive by. The choice we have to make as a team is do we maintain this cover story of First Aid Humanitarians and their protection/drive team or approach by stealth. This village seems dilapidated enough to need some aid. We can park down the road and have our Miss Aid Worker and Mr. Money Bags can get out and start walking down the street. They can get a close up view of the conditions while being covered by Smith there guide and security detail. I can either stay with the vehicle or get to a point of cover with my sniper rifle. What do you all think keep the cover or stalk back tonight?
I think we only get 1 action dice so not sure I want to use it on a perception roll this early on. The fact that it is a Threat lets me cap that roll at a 20 instead of 15. I think future rolls I posted will have the following format (dice=Perception T20 E3 C15) so I list my threat and error range as well as the result cap.
Timothy K Smith |
Generally as a player, I am more gung ho, but this espionage and spylike so I feel I should be a bit more cautious.
"Let's drive around the building to get a more 3-D idea of the layout and then come back in the evening. Darkness is always safest when in Indian Country."
Johnny "Razor" Macomb |
Well I think that's an option if we get caught our cover is totally blown. Not sure what an aid worker and her potential purse would be doing out in this area after dark. Also who is too say if Al-Salahar didn't have instructions to meet us at a set time. I still say we leave it for a vote. In a combat situation Smith you have the way of it. Night time operation and all but I don't know if we are ready to drop our cover so quickly. Mr. Chandler and Miss Betterman what are your thoughts.
As they discuss their options Macomb takes the next available turn to gain an additional angle on the "safehouse".
Jason "Snake" Ward |
"Well, I didn't dress in a nice suit for nothing, Mister Macomb." Richard chuckles. "I kid, Macomb. I always wear a suit unless required to do otherwise. Now, I do recommend we maintain our cover. If you too like, you can keep look out elsewhere. Perhaps you could sneak inside while we distract whoever is here if you'd like. But Miss Burns has yet to give her thoughts."
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
It would be a team Blend roll, and since for it to work, the lowest bonus would be rolling since all of you need to succeed. If that's how you want to play this out that is.
You've been driving around for a few minutes, and cutting corners and circling the safe house. So far, there hasn't been any activity inside or out of the house. The only thing you have noticed as a pack of wild dogs that seems to be scavenging in the area for food or somesuch.

Cynthia Betterman |
Thank you!
She takes a moment to nod, "We can be dropped off a few blocks away, and look over some buildings as we talk, I'll be a bit flirty, the BMW is out of place enough that it's an attention getter, we can be nosey and look in on our own. If there's something dangerous going on, I'm well trained in hand to hand, but I'd appreciate having you two (Timothy and Razor) on close-duty stakeout in case someone pulls a gun or goes for a fast getaway."
Natalie gets into character a bit, changing up her hair a bit, showing off a bit more skin, that sort of thing. "If we can find a shop or restaurant to get dropped off at, we can make our way back over here. That'll give you two time to get into position, see if anyone's doing recon."
Nobody has any sort of thermal optics, right?
Let's do this!
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
subbing in for Razor again. .
Setting your plan into motion, those of you in the van watch as those on foot slowly make their way toward the BMW. So far, no one has come in or out of the safe house. On approaching the vehicle, you notice that it is not running, but there is some sort of liquid leaking from one of the exhaust pipes.

Johnny "Razor" Macomb |
Wasn't sure I needed to say anything. Was waiting on Smith to vote.
Smith why don't you get in the back seat so we both have clear lines of fire.
Razor pulls his rifle from his gear. He keeps it below the window level for now. IF Smith gets into the back seat then he will brace the rifle against the bottom of passenger window.
Cynthia Betterman |
Do we have a banana for the tailpipe?
Cynthia says something bemused to Mr. Chandler, laughing a little as she keeps pace with him, his arm in her hands, practically hanging onto every word as he escorts her through the area.
She looks at the vehicle for a moment, "Mr. Chandler, is this one of your cars? So thoughtful."
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
Macomb and Smith watch as the two decoys approach the vehicle in front of the safe house. So far, the place still seems deserted.

Cynthia Betterman |
She laughs softly, then puts her arms around Richard's neck. Cynthia murmurs through her teeth, "surveillance is on the house." She gives a longing look at the BMW for a few moments, then leads Richard away from the area, to regroup with the others later.
Assuming no issues, and Jason has nothing to add.
Natalie slides into the vehicle, "Didn't see anyone inside the storefront itself, but I caught sight of people keeping an eye on it. Ball's back in your court, guys. Do we watch them, or bust in and shoot out kneecaps or something?"
Jason "Snake" Ward |
"We could do as we were bred to do, Miss Betterman, and act the parts we play. Why don't we knock on the door, ask if they need help repairing their car? For a rich guy like myself, looking to help the country, it'd be a nice thing to do, after all. And sorry for my delayed response, I was deep in thought, observing my surroundings and thinking up possible paths for us to take." OOC, I'm sorry. I've been swamped lately. Trying to post every day. Didn't see anything any of the times I checked yesterday, so I didn't respond then.
DM ShadowBloodmoon |
So far, no one has come out to accost you while you plan your next move.

"Well if they're keeping surveillance, if we distract them by making them focus on their job, then I'd rather look at the BMW's storefront. I don't expect they have a vehicle ready for a quick escape, so two going in is my thought. Timothy needs at least another pair of eyes. This could be our contacts over there, thinking that the safehouse is compromised."
