Soros

Soros stands up and brushes himself off and checks his gear quickly. He picks up his staff and walks over to Edan who has taken a watch position at the door to the hall while Rabalar works with Thout. Thank you for giving me aid. I feel much better. He pats the Touv on the shoulder and nods. Edan turns and smiles..You are welcome now go help with that foul smell in the other room if you can.

Naia moves away from the scullery as she is obviously had too much of the smell and moves by D'ogryn to provide him a guard while he finishes searching the kitchen sink and stove area.

Soros moves over to the door to the scullery and peers inside with the head of his staff poking in as well. He sees Rabalar and Thout inspecting the body. He turns his head away from the corpse and takes a breath from the kitchen. You need any help from me? Anything I can do? He looks at the body and gives a disgusted sickened look at the entire scene lying on the floor.

D'ogryn can't find anything else and it seems the centipedes, if any, gone deep into their burrow and have no interest in coming out.

Naia also shakes her head to clear it and scowls as she inspects the cuts and remts in her breeches. She removes her bow, stows the harpoon and moves back to the confluence of corridor and main entrance room. She peers at the tall open space, sensing for movement or sound, though her head and mind are both still a little cloudy.

I moved Naia to the edge of the hall on the north end facing out to the main entry hall. Let me know if that is ok.

Thout waits for any comments, but no one offers any further ideas about moving on to the second floor. Naia walks out of the kitchen, moving towards the main hall. "Guess we usin' the front stairs. Not sure dat's wise." He turns to Rabalar. "You're da goblin expert. What you say? Me only concern about ta back stairs is the noise we heard earlier."

Soros

Soros responds to Thout as he sits in the doorway. "I am not for walking head long into another obvious ambush. If Rabalar says those stairs are a possibility for us to sneak up on our adversaries or just gain the upper hand I am all for it. They must know we are in the house at this point with all the noise we have made so far."

He makes a cough as he tries to expel the foul smell in the scullary out of his lungs. "Is there anything else we can do in this room...(looking at the scullery)? What about those stairs going down? Do we want to bother checking them or leave them be?"

The sword is well made but it has no gems in it at all. The steel is well forged and the blade appears to be well balanced. The armor catches your eye as you look at the blade and then around the body again...even covered in the gore it is..well crafted armor as well and it doesn't seem to have rotted at all considering the state of the body. With the body turned over it is clear whoever this man was he was taken unaware and murdered in cold blood. His gear is well made...sword and armor for that matter...missing his pouch and his dagger is gone but it is apparent he was holding his sword and the lantern. He is not a small man either; probably a warrior of some sort or an adventurer.

Edan

Edan turns to the side to let Naia by and decides to move up with her as she moves into the dim light and away from his magical light. He turns to the group in the room. "I am going to go down the hall with Naia and keep an eye on things in the main hall."[b]

He comes just behind Naia and settles with this staff as it taps the floor. More to let Naia know he is there realizing the light gives him a way more than the obvious tap on the floor. [b]"That smell is awful...at the least the fresh air coming in from the entry makes the hall smell better."

He looks at the stairs in the entry. "I think Rabalar wants to try and go up the back stairs in the kitchen. They don't appear to be used... His words trail off as he tries to make conversation with Naia.

Thout takes another look at the man's armor. Its excellent condition in spite of the rot and decomposition all around it catches his eye. He hesitates, then gives himself a wry smile and chuckle before stowing his shield, "Couldn't happen twice, right?" He then proceeds to strip the body of the armor. "This is too nice to leave behind, especially considering what is likely coming next. Hmmm. Naia wears studded leather..."

The armor is finely made, more so than the sword. The marks on it ,after you wipe the insides off, point to Gradsul and House Rhola. You don't know the house but it sounds familiar. Once cleaned it appears to be a full set of Studded Leather Armor (masterwork).

Male Half-dwarf Fighter 1 | HP 16 | DR 2/- | AC.T.FF 19.12.13 | F.R.W 5.2.3 | CMD 16 | Init 2 | P 6, SM 2

Wow! I just took a look at the house rules Studded Leather Armor; it is even better than a chain shirt! And no ACP for masterwork! Of course, you can't make studded leather from mithral or adamantine, but still.

Thout cleans the putrid gunk from the armor and holds it up, "Gradsul and Rhola... Gradsul and Rhola... Seems familiar, but not sure. Nevertheless, very nice armor! I really like the craftsmanship. Makes me think of suits I've seen back home. This guy must have been someone really important. Or rich. Will definitely need to report this." Having decided that this is not simply an average guy, Thout continues his assessment. He examines the lantern to see if it gives any clues as to identity or origin.

Soros' coughs as he speaks and Thout gives him a look of concern. He quickly tries to hide it as he takes on a professional tone while answering, "I'm for goin' with what Rabalar recommends. Our mission is te get the goblins. Don't have time to get down those stairs. Maybe later."

Sorry if this is a bit garbled timeline-wise. Trying to tie it all together. I'm thinking all the armor/sword/body examination happened during the recovery hour.

Assuming this armor is miraculously unisex...
"Naia, take a gander at dis armor."

Wow, 14 posts in about 28 hours. That's impressive!

"Honestly, I don't think it matters much which path we take upstairs at this point, but the undisturbed dust tells me there's a chance they aren't ready for anyone to use the kitchen stairs. That path, sadly, includes us having to push through a choke point. They've probably set defenses up against people coming up the main stairs, but those stairs are far more likely to open up onto a landing, reducing the choke point problem. Both have disadvantages. We won't know for certain that either provides any advantage until sometime after it no longer matters." He shrugs. "When something feels wrong, or right, I'll push the direction my gut leads me. This is little more than a guess, but we're closer to the one than the other. Sometimes it can be that simple."

Edit: And I think that armor would be a good upgrade for several of us. D'Ogryn, Naia, me, probably Edan . . .. Probably closer to fitting Edan or D'Ogryn.

D'ogryn stand up from his inspection of the sink.
I do not think there will be any more of those things coming in from there.

He comes into the room just as the others are investigating the corpse. He tries his best to see what he can see from the attack on the unsuspecting man. He looks at the wound to get an idea of which direction the attack came from and which weapon was used. He looks at the corpse and then at the lantern and then back again. holding a dagger up to the wound to judge the shape of the wound.
Hmm I have had some experience with such an attack...maybe I can see something that they did not see.
I am trying to see if the attakcer was taller than they corpse and if he/she was right or left handed. What type of weapon was used. Looking at the crushed lantern to see if I can see which foot was used as well.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

He looks at the others and then to the stairs in the kitchen.
These stairs appear to be unused and that could be for any number of reasons. I am willing to take point and climb up the steps to make sure they are safe for everyone else. I think that is the best way to go. The front stairs are too open and we could be assaulted at any number of angles as we climb up. Not much cover going up. I am ready when you are...

Soros

Soros nods and appreciates Thout's request; he actually looks a little excited to get a chance to show off his abilities. "I can look at both of the items. Do me a favor bring them in the room and lay them out on the floor. It will take me a minute or so to examine them.

Thout gathers the items up after doing one more review of the body and the surroundings. That is when he sees the dagger lying just under the boiler. He pulls it out and looks it at. It is nothing remarkable but it is Keoish made and it is well worn and has seen many a scuffle from the nicks in the blade. Soros gathers the sword and the armor and brings them in the kitchen and lays them out carefully. Then stands up and begins a series of gestures and begins to chant as he does his hands become surrounded by a faint red glow and then his eyes seem to gain the same red hallow. He then stoops down and continues chanting under his breath as he scans the sword, touches it with his hands, flips it over, runs his hands over it again. He does the samething with the armor for several moments taking his time inspecting the armor and the sword.

Appraise1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 16 +2 for Craft (Weapons)

He smiles after nearly a minute and as he stands up and the glow from in his eyes fades out. The sword is work of mastercraftmanship. I would say it is worth 200gp or more in Saltmarsh. The studded leather armor is enchanted as well as being an exceptional piece of work...it is faint but it appears to have been enchanted. It is an exceptional piece of armor and I would clean up the inside before anyone wears it."

Soros walks over to the scullery and looks back to Thout and Rabalar. "This man deserves a decent burial at the very least. Whoever he was he doesn't deserve to rot in this house. We should have the town guard come and recover the body if we get out of here...." His voice trails off for a moment...he turns and walks into the kitchen and gives a quick smile to Thout and Rabalar.

Naia looks at the suit with a mix of revulsion and, somehow appreciation. Her gaze drops to her own suit, rent as it is.

"I only just bought this. Perhaps someone else will want it Thout?"

"Enchanted!?" Thout catches himself. "Soros, are you sure?" He'd heard of quality gear being empowered beyond what mere tools and skill could create, but here was such a suit of armor now. He brings it up to his face, looking closely at the stitching. He hefts it, pulls on it a bit, searching for any tangible difference. Finding none, he shrugs his shoulders. "Mighty nice, though," he mutters beneath his breath.

Thout is caught up in his examination when he hears Soros advocating for the stranger's burial. Thout looks up briefly at Soros, but then lowers his eyes once he understands his words. "Every man deserves respect, 'specially for what he's done wit' his life. Whate'er dat may be." He pauses for a moment as he considers who this man may have been and what he may have done with the opportunities given him. He lifts his eyes to Soros, "Thank ye for examinin'. I'd never known 'bout de enchantment without ye. Dis armor is truly special." He looks once more at the body, "Was he here just because of the rumors? Or something else? Was he alone?" Thout shakes his head, pulls out his waterskin, and sets to making the armor wearable.

---

Naia being uninterested, Thout holds up the cleaned suit and addresses the others, "D'ogryn, Rabalar, either of ye inclined te dis? Tis fine quality. And enchanted according to Soros."

After the items are sorted out...

"D'ogryn, can ye get Naia. Seems these stairs here be the best way up, and we needin' to make a plan."

---

Once we are gathered in the kitchen...

Thout stands straight and looks the others in the eyes. He clasps his his right hand with his left in front of his chest and begins to speak, "Here's me thoughts. Rabalar, D'ogryn, ye say we should go up here," he nods at the stairs. "I'm wit' ya. D'ogryn, ye scout it out. Might need te check the stairs to de third; make sure nothin' waitin' fer us there. But when yer done, we'll come up right behind ye onta de landin'. We heard something up there earlier, so we open the door, throw a sneezeweed grenade or two, shoot some arrows, and rush in. How many of us could fit on the landing at the second floor?

Antas, Ferona, Peran - 4th Day of Readying, Godsday (worship day)
Late Afternoon

The three of you make your way up the stairs with Ferona acting as if she is drunk. Although her salesmanship of it is not noteworthy in the least it seems to do the trick as no one seems to pay attention to the three of you as you make your way up the stairs from what you can tell.

As you reach the top of the familier stairs you turn to your right and walk down a hall to a door that is closed but not shut all the way. You can hear talking...Peran can tell that there are three or four people talking. Three male voices, one softer than the other two, and a female voice. Antas gives the door a wrap as Ferona looks over her shoulder and stand up and straightens her dress. The three stand side by side looking at the door and each other for just moment before you can hear the sound of soft foot falls come to the door. When it opens it is the shirefolk Hoskins before you. He is dressed lavishly and all three of you would guess his entire outfit cost more than everything you currently own. He has earrings, rings, and a necklace as well as several bracelets. Ferona can see he has has toe ring on both of his big toes...he appears to like jewelry... He has deep black curly hair that shows just a sign of grey creeping in and even his foot hair is a curly black.

Ahhh....well there you are... He waves you in and pats each of you on the back and smiles. He points to several chairs at the end of a long oval table. The two men set across from two women who are all clearly priests and priestesses of various faiths. I told my companions they would love to meet the three of you. Especially the young Peran, who gave an exciting speech on the docks this wonderful morning. As you can see they have some interest in your visit and from what I understand is of some importance to our small town. Please have seat and make yourselves comfortable.

It is apparent that Hoskins is not all that he seems to be...and he not just a simple bard or inns keeper.

"Well, as many amazing skills as our little cook has displayed, he's come up short on keeping goblin blades out of his body. I think he might have the most pressing need for the armor."

I know older house servant stairs tended to be more narrow than the main stairs, and that they tended to run through the kitchen. Are these stairs broad enough for two people to pass each other, or single file only? My thought, OOC description, is about moving the archer up to just a step or two below the landing, then having the rogue and fighter slip past him, then the three are in a good formation for moving forward while providing as much cover as we go as possible. If there's not room to pass each other, obviously it requires going up the stairs in the order we want to have at the landing.

Ferona knows she is in the presence of superiors here and slips into an accustomed role of a servant as she nods in appreciation of Antas' chivalry her. Sliding into the chair with ease she meets the gaze of each of the priest and priestesses unflinchingly. "You do us honor by allowing us to grace your presence. We are humbled by this, but we cannot help but be curious as to why you have called us here now." she sits at attention, not relaxing here, as she calmly awaits a reply.

It shakes a little, hanging from Thout's hands, as if it were slightly animated but without purpose, just waiting for someone to fill it and put it to use.

Now about upstairs...We know nothing of what waits for us up there. Let me take point with Rabalar covering if needed. We may give ourselves away if we go running up there yelling and screaming. Naia listens to D'ogryn's plan.

"Remember I heard sounds just above the stairs or on the landing right before you folk summoned the corpse-critters of doom. I'm not saying we should go that way, nor that we shouldn't. But given the various commotions of the past half-hour, it would be foolish to think whatever or whoever is up there isn't sure we are here, and that they haven't got a welcome plan."

Naia subconsciously rubs her side where she was recently smashed by a goblin trap in the form of a giant log.

"Perhaps, and I know this kind of didn't work last time, or maybe it did - we split up again, and see if we can flush them out. I'm prepared to make some noise going up the main staircase if you want to go silent and dread up here."

She smiles without guile to D'ogryn.

"I could even shout and scream if it would help."

"Well, doing that would certainly make sneaking in this way easier, but it could easily and quickly resolve with them overwhelming you. I'm not inclined to recommend suicide runs just to make things a little easier. We should move together, one way or the other, in order to reduce the risk of losing anyone. Though the noise isn't a bad idea. Anything else we could do to draw their attention like that without a suicide run?"

Thout listens carefully to all that is said. He is quiet as he processes the ideas. His brow wrinkles and after a few moments he speaks, "The problem be that we're limited by our need for light. Our light gives us away. Dey know where we are, though they don't know where we plan to come up. Let's make sure they don't. With a light here in te kitchen, D'ogryn, ye can scout the stairs, but not much further. If we put a torch in the hallway, Soros and Naia gets a light on the second floor, and we take light wit' us, we'll have de light we need for movin' around and for any attack, but we're de ones havin' to go through a chokepoint. To do that, we need a diversion. Naia, Soros, get a light on te second floor and make some noise, but do not go up de stairs. That be suicide. Immediately run back to te kitchen and be de second wave right behind us. We sneak into position and wait. When we hear the commotion dey create, we strike. D'ogryn, you and I throw de sneezeweed and Rabalar shoots. Edan either attacks or takes position as it unfolds. He also throws de light inte de room ahead of us."

The way I see it, the biggest question is whether it is worth it to split the party in order to get light and a diversion at the other end. My concern is that we need light and they don't. Thout thinks it is worthwhile because it creates some doubt with the goblins as to what is happening, and it protects Soros who is still very weak. Plus it helps relieve congestion at the chokepoint in the initial round. I'm thinking the sneezeweed and diversion increase the likelihood of a successful ingress.

So the order of events as I see it:
* Put torch in hallway (roughly between the doors of the 2 empty rooms)
* Put light spells on 2 coins (1 for Edan, 1 for Naia/Soros)
* D'ogryn sneaks and scouts
* Kitchen group assumes positions
* Diversion group acts
* Edan throws light
* Thout rushes first, D'ogryn second, Rabalar third, Edan fourth.
* Throw sneezeweed (be sure to hold breath!)
* Rabalar shoots
* While kitchen group starts attack, diversion group returns to kitchen
* Diversion group makes second wave
* We win! lol

Please feel free to suggest alterations/improvements to the above. Those are just Thout's thoughts. I think it's something like this or else something entirely different, such as going back outside and climb in a second floor window.

Though the noise isn't a bad idea. Anything else we could do to draw their attention like that without a suicide run?"

I remember a discussion about throwing some coins, but I don't remember if it was IC or OOC, so . . ..

Jinx! Thout mentioned it OOC in the discussion thread: here.

I think we are putting to much into this. I will scout the steps to see what is what and then we can make our next plan based off of my findings. It could be the steps are rotten out further up. So lets us take things one step at a time. There is no need to put the cart before the horse...

I know we are. I figure in a FtF discussion, this "How do we head upstairs?" would have taken us about 15 minutes the way we've done this!

The ranger follows the cook, staying 2 steps below him the entire time, but with his bow ready and watching the landing, and then through the open doorway . . ..

Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 +2 for Goblins

Well, neither of us can see nut'in', but at least we're quiet about it.

Hey! We've taken an hour to recover from the centipedes. I'm considering the lengthier planning as part of that time. Thout, especially, sees it as "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

D'ogryn and Rabalar step away from the group and check their gear. They take a quick look at one another, and D'ogryn starts up the stairs with Rabalar following. Thout stands and observes with disapproval, "Reckless civilians! Assaulting a defended position is no gimme. And what are they going to see without any light? Fharlanghn, guide their path. They need it. Hmm, maybe the olf hasn't had as much training as I thought." As they progress upwards, Thout's disapproval mixes with admiration, "Talk about quiet! Would never know they're coming up. Thank you, Fharlanghn."

This is Thout's pov because of his military background.

I am going to put everyone back in the kitchen on the map to match up what has occurred in the last string of posts.

Rabalar wrote:

I know older house servant stairs tended to be more narrow than the main stairs, and that they tended to run through the kitchen. Are these stairs broad enough for two people to pass each other, or single file only? My thought, OOC description, is about moving the archer up to just a step or two below the landing, then having the rogue and fighter slip past him, then the three are in a good formation for moving forward while providing as much cover as we go as possible. If there's not room to pass each other, obviously it requires going up the stairs in the order we want to have at the landing.

All the stairs are just wide enough (6 ft) for one person to move and fight. There is enough room for two people to walk up the stairs two across but any combat or maneuvering will require them to adjust.

Another note on stairs:

Gradual Stairs
Gradual stairs are easy to move on and have the following noteworthy features:

No Running: Characters cannot run on gradual stairs.
Acrobatics: Gradual stairs increase the DC of Acrobatics checks made on them by 4.
Higher Ground: Characters fighting on gradual stairs gain a +1 bonus on melee attacks made against opponents below them.

Thout watches D'ogryn and Rabalar begin their ascent. Feeling a bit uneasy, he steps out of the kitchen into the hallway for a moment. There he draws readies his shield and draws a throwing axe before returning.

Stealth: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 1 = 13 Maybe another -2 for his shield?

D'ogryn makes his way up the stairs safely and quietly. He makes no noise as he moves up the stairs and pays close attention to the space above him. The room is dark with only brief flashes of lightning in the far distance to give a small amount of light. Rabalar follows him only a few paces behind with his bow. He lets his eyes adjust to the dim light knowing that D'ogryn is moving up the stairs nearly blind.

Along the south wall of this area a staircase ascends to the second floor of the rear of the house. The treads appear to be insecure, partially rotted in spots, but safe to ascend.

As D'ogryn gets to the top of the stairs he holds as his head comes above the stairs and puts his left hand out to hold Rabalar. He lets a few flashes of lightning go by to see if he sees anything dangerous or moving around. The area opens into a landing of some sort. There is a wall that runs on the north end and on the northeast end is a hallway.

Another staircase along the west wall climbs to the upper level. This has mostly collapsed — only the lowest six steps are still intact and there is no easy access to the hole in the ceiling to where the staircase used to lead. A heap of rotten timber lies in the southwest corner.

Soros

Under his breath he begins to chant, the sound is familiar, as he does he opens his hand a small copper coin begins to glow as if a small torch. Again at first, it starts with a red shimmer but that fades and it is nothing more than a magical torchlight. He finishes and whistles to Rabalar as quietly as he can. When Rabalar looks down he lifts up the coin that he has now covered in a piece of scrap cloth to hand it to him.

"He is going to need to light, the rest of us will as well except for you and Thout. Best you have it to put it in place in case we need it."

He turns to his own staff and repeats the sequence on his staff head knowing he might forget to recast it if it gets chaotic again.

The olf tucks the package into the hand holding the bow, and nods, waiting to see D'Ogryn's next move.

Edan

Edan puts his backpack down by the stairs and places the healer's kit on his side and secures it so that it will not be in the way. He says a small prayer to himself...Berna watch over my friends and give us clear minds to see this task through to its conclusion with all of his intact if it is your will.

He turns to the doorway and keeps an eye on the hallway and the sink area for any courageous centipedes.

Antas, Ferona, Peran - 4th Day of Readying, Godsday (worship day)
LAte Afternoon

Party Skill, Save, and Ability Check Macros Sheet
-------------------------------------

Hoskins seems to be waiting for the three companions to take their seats but the beautiful lady of Pelor doesn't seem interested in waiting. She smiles at the three of you but at the same time seems to size the three of you up in her eyes. "How does the Church of St. Cuthbert fair in Seaton Brother Peran? I understand that Seaton has seen a good winter season of fishing. My ears tell me you are a man of the sea as well? You must of impressed your leaders a great deal to be given this important task to carry out if I am to understand Councilman Hoskin's correctly?"

Hoskins clears his throat politely...with a small cough the lady priestess turns and smiles while the other guests give a small laugh. The lady turns and gives a small laugh. "Oh, you expected me to wait for you to make this all formal and full of your flowery words did you." She smiles again at Hoskins and turns to the three of you. "You will have to pardon me...Hoskins likes to make a show of the formalities when he can. For my part, I tend to like to cut to the quick of it before the daylight vanishes. He tends to prattle at times." At that same moment the priest of Procan gives a belly laugh and slams his right fist down and in a deep voice "Hahaha...leave it to the High Priestess Lyra to take the sails out of Hoskin's little meeting before it even starts!"

Hoskins looks both flustered and amused at the same time as all the priests seem to have their fun with him. "Why is it that every meeting with the temples has to be a lesson in my being humbled! Am I deserving of this or is there some bag of coin on the table that I am not aware of!" He stands up and straightens his rather expensive silk jacket and makes several small grunts as if disgusted but he is smiling the entire time. "Well let me at least give some brief introductions now that we have gotten me being humiliated in front of my guests!" He turns and gives a stern and playful eye to the high priestess of Pelor. He turns back to the three companions and continues speaking as the four guests seem to settle in to get to the reason for the meeting. "The fine lady with the sharp tongue is the High Priestess of Pelor and is Lyra Ivessa. She is also the leader of the Temple Council in Saltmarsh as such she has a seat on the town council. She is both a wise and sharp-witted women as you can very well see. She was an adventurer for time before taking her seat her in Saltmarsh." The beautiful lady gives a slight bow and a smile while seated. Hoskins continues..."The lady to her left is Uthrina Mel'di'jin and is a preistess of Procan and a seasoned sailor. She advises the council on the desires of Procan, the weather, and the seas." She is clearly a Sea Elf with her almond skin and shiny blonde hair. Her eyes project an air of wisdom and experience. Hoskin points to the man nearest Antas and continues..."This is Carl Highhall and priest of Kord. He runs the Temple Farm just southeast. He is the second most senior priest of Saltmarsh." The tall, broad shouldered man smiles and seems to size up both Peran and Antas as if to see if they would be worthy challangers in some sort of physical contest. Hoskins points to the final guest who sets between himself and Carl Highhall, the priest of Kord. "Our final guest is Gharlane Montvandor and is a priest of Fharlaghn and is master of the House of Coins." He seems to pause for a moment and he turns to the three companions. "I had to pleasure of listening to a finally crafted and delivered sermon by our young visitor and brother of St. Cuthbert. I had the time to do some asking around...since I know the captain of the ship they arrived on..."

He smiles and continues. "It seems our Brother Peran has been tasked with gathering funds to rebuild the Temple of St. Cuthbert in Seaton. I believe this to a noble cause indeed and I believe our Churches can support this noble enterprise. I also think that our dear Brother Peran and his good friends can assist us in matter that we all would like to keep quiet if at all possible." The last comment seemed cryptic...and the expressions on the four priests face seemed to suggest that it was something of a serious matter. "Who better to assist in these matters than a brother of St. Cuthbert. But, we also have the pleasure of two additional resources that I think will be of an enoromous benefit to our town." He points to Antas. "This gentleman is Antas Di Santos of Aerdi and is a Sword of Heironeous. What better pair to take on this undertaking if they are willing." He smiles as if satisfied with his introduction of the two. "Now I must say the beautiful lady was a much harder one to find out about...to be honest I was not sure what to make of the lady but my discussions with the ship's crew leads me to believe this lady is on a much deeper reason for being in our city and I fear her reason might end up taking her away from here. But I hope to capture her attentions for a short time while our city is in need. My understanding is that you are skilled in the arcane arts and schooled in them by the White Sages of Rel Deven." The priest of Kord seems to look concerned when Hoskins mentions arcane arts as does the priestess of Procan. The other don't see to bothered by it...

As Rabalar moves up, straining his eyes against the darkness, trying to force himself to use his ears instead, he offers the wrapped coin to D'Ogryn.

Assuming he doesn't spot anything: He shrugs at the cook.

Rabalar sees that the hallway moves north with a door or some sort of entry just five or six feet on the northwest wall in the hallway. There doesn't appear to be any movement or anything of note at the moment.

Ferona glances to each of the priests in turn, the color drained from her face, her thoughts coming in a jumbled mass. How could they have discovered...I had been so careful, I thought...Still powerful magicks can uncover many secrets...

Taking a few calming breaths here to compose herself, she looks directly at Carl and Uthrina as she speaks. "Yes what they speak of me is true. One lesson I was quick to learn is the importance of secrecy, especially concerning the arcane dweomercraft and those who practice it. While I am not at liberty to divulge the nature of my mission...which does require I travel further away from Saltmarsh...I do have leeway as to when I need to complete my mission. Also I am as quick as you are to see this Plague dealt with once and for all!" She also remembers the final instructions provided to her by her teacher: "Do good when you can." "Please to tell of the need Saltmarsh faces and I shall assist you as I am able."
