Of Kings and Commoners - Kingmaker AP

Game Master RPGGGM

With the heart of the Stolen Lands explored and the bandits who ruled there scattered, the long-contested realm finally lies open for pioneers and settlers to stake their claims.:
Amid the rush of opportunistic travelers, the PCs find themselves stewards over a new domain, tasked with the responsibility of guiding and guarding a fledgling nation struggling to grow upon a treacherous borderland. Yet the threats to this new nation quickly prove themselves greater than mere bandits and wild beasts, as the monstrous natives of the hills and forests rampage forth to slaughter all who have trespassed upon their territory. Can the PCs hold the land they’ve fought so hard to explore and tame? Or will their legend be just one more lost to the fangs of the Stolen Lands?

The boar was snuffling along the northern exterior edge of the ring. See X on map.

On its turn the boar lurches forward with enough ire and strength to inflict a good deal of harm to Scarlet when Alia drops it dead with a well-placed stab. (Boar -35 hp. I neglected to update the previous initiative table).

Which was what was going to happen. Alia just happened to post first. But Posh, Zokon, and Scarlet (who hadn't even taken a full action yet and could have attacked it as part of delayed or readied action) had the opportunity to do the same before the boar struck--which it would have done had it not been staggered in the first volley. I just didn't want to delay the inevitable too long.

One roll about the stones, reveal all that you beat.

Knowledge (geography) DC 10+:
Both are granite. In the forest they are probably 'intrusions' (i.e. the ground around them has been worn away or subsided over time exposing them). The stones in the circle were obviously placed there.

Knowledge (geography) DC 15+:
The stones in the circle have a composition similar to the stone that makes up the Tors of Levenies, a mountain range a hundred miles south of your current location.

I thought Naleksa was keeping her stuff in a cart, tagging along behind us while we cartograph everything? Does she use pack animals for all her stuff? My mistake if so. Still, a pack mule carrying an Anvil would probably still be too heavy for the bridge, so...po-ta-to po-te-to...

"I might be able to make it across, but the horses surely won't. That bridge will come down, as sure as I am an Auritonius. Perhaps we can look around for a fordable place in the river instead? Otherwise we can leave the other side of the river for later."

Presumably we might find a ford if we are exploring this side of the hex. If we don't find one then we could explore the other side of the hex later.

"It would be a lot of work, but you could use logs as rollers. A large team of men or draft animals could pull them. Just depends on how much effort you want to bother using."

Dice:

Alia: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Celyne: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Numalar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Poshment: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Scarlet: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Zokon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

The hills form a natural choke point for the river at the bridge, which varies between 40 and 80 feet across at most places. The Thorn River is aptly named because most banks seem to crowded with brambles.

Crossing the river at any point in this hex (aside from the bridge) would require some swim checks (in the DC 15 range).

The river rolls on. As does the party to the southwest.

Area map updated.

Perception rolls please.

The watchful elf notes that just before the Thorn River pours itself into the Shrike, the water level dips to a mere three or so feet (though it widens to one-hundred feet) forming the most passable ford you have seen along its course.

You can wade across here (Swim DC 10).

Scarlet peers at the river. "Zokon! What are you doing- oh." She looks at him.

"I guess we can cross here. Bah, so much water." Scarlet dips her toes into the water and steps in.
Swim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6Thank goodness this is DC 10

The sudden drop to her waist gives her pause. "If I drown, save my rock collection."

Swim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Scarlet no, Scarlet plz

"I can't get any traction!" Scarlet embarrasses herself, nearly slipping and falling into a 3 foot deep river.

Swim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
"I'd rather take my chances with the bridge!" Scarlet marches across the river, annoyed mostly with herself.

Celyne will gather up her skirts and tuck the hems into her belt to keep them from dragging her down and with a wince at the cold water, stride across following Zokon.
