"Anyone want bacon for supper?" she asks softly
Posh shoots up his arm in response.
"I do!" he calls out excitedly "Any eggs, hash-brown, fried toast, tomatos, beans and dessert?" he asks looking up at Celyne with hopeful eyes.Celyne |

"Bah! A magic ... well, actually, in this neighbourhood who knows? One way to find out."
Numalar waves his symbol about, and his eyes seem to turn to solid gold.

Alia of the Blade |
"Aye, something's not right. Animals refused to get close to these stones before, did they not? Like, our horses? Why would a wild animal willingly enter? Probably a Fey trap, or a Druid...what are you doing?", Alia muses, talking with Scarlet as Posh and Celyne simultaneously raise their crossbows and let fly in the name of bacon.
Worded as a question as I am not 100% sure any more, but I thought the horses(and Luna?) refused to get close to the stones...may mix it up with another campaign though in which case Alia is simply still Fey-spooked
Poshment Underhill |
Posh is surprised that the attacks still did not seem to take the beast down, but decides to focus on the attack, not interested in inspiring the crowd as he doesn't believe this pig will last long and he can already smell the bacon.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
"Trying to catch dinner!" Posh replies to Alia, anxious to get to the cooking and frustrated at his bad aim.
Scarlet Scarab |
The arrows hit the boar, and it surprisingly doesn't die.
"Alright, then." Scarlet draws her swords. "This really doesn't seem right..."
RPGGGM |
Angrily (though now a bit shakily) the pig advances making a terrible squealing racket.
Posh is surprised that the attacks still did not seem to take the beast down....

This appears to be a non-ocular/magical pig.

Numalar stiffens his grip on his spear, determined to keep the boar at bay.

"On, Sir Didymus! Around to the side!"
Sir Didymus runs around behind the boar, and faces it.
30' move. Numalar now threatens the boar with his longspear and Scarlet should be able to 5' step and full attack with flanking.

Regardless, and despite the awkwardness between them, the Woman was her Bodyguard, and it would not do to have a boar gore her, mundane or a druids(dead and buried, nearby) companion or otherwise.
Move action next to Scarlet and drawing blade and swift action to empower it. Ready action to attack the boar IFF it attempts to attacks Scarlet. 5-foot step to close distance as part of ready action, then stab.

@GM: Was the boar, per chance, poking around near where we found the body last time? Or at a completely different place?
The boar was snuffling along the northern exterior edge of the ring. See X on map.
On its turn the boar lurches forward with enough ire and strength to inflict a good deal of harm to Scarlet when Alia drops it dead with a well-placed stab. (Boar -35 hp. I neglected to update the previous initiative table).
END COMBAT
What would you like to do?
RPGGGM |
"Nope, nothing magical about that boar. Whoops! Here he comes!"
There is still a moderate magical effect covering the area of the stone ring--which I should mention again looks like this rather than say Stonehenge. And yes, that's what the terrain up near the forest looks like too.
Alia of the Blade |
Just for the record: I'm all fine with the resolution, but the intent was to interrupt the attack IF it goes after scarlet. As in, stab before it manages to gore her, preventative, not responsive.
"There's your bacon...", Alia states, looking around for any mysterious travellers or other beings watching what is taking place.

Scarlet braces herself for the worst, and realizes much too late that her left leg is wide open. She tries to shift when Alia's estoc pierces the beast. Momentum carries its horn ahead and it gently scrapes Scarlet's armor.
"Alia." She turns to the elf. "Thanks. That wouldn't have been pretty if you weren't there." Watching Alia head off to investigate the stones, Scarlet wonders what changed about her. Things haven't been the same since that night...Hope she's not heartbroken.

Which was what was going to happen. Alia just happened to post first. But Posh, Zokon, and Scarlet (who hadn't even taken a full action yet and could have attacked it as part of delayed or readied action) had the opportunity to do the same before the boar struck--which it would have done had it not been staggered in the first volley. I just didn't want to delay the inevitable too long.
RPGGGM |

Go ahead sit on one, see if I care. ;) You folks have been inside the circle before. You buried the man who's blood was splattered all over the middle one.
Alia of the Blade |
My mistake. The "good deal of harm" vs Scarlet did not include a damage roll. I just meant to point out that I meant to act before she took damage, without actually checking if she even did. Apologies

Zokon will observe around while the others are investigating and making bacon
RPGGGM |
After a series of loops through the hills bacon is had at camp that night, and another slice of the Stolen Lands is explored.
Night passes.
The next day while skirting the Thorn River, possibly searching for a place to cross at you stumble upon a rickety old bridge spanning a pair of hills 20 feet above the river.
Conditions: A warm day, overcast with light drizzle.
Noting where you are on the area map, would you like to cross and complete exploring this hex or wait and leave it until later.
Area and tactical maps updated.
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon will ride up and look at the bridge.. checking out just how Rickety .. rickety is?
RPGGGM |
The weight of Zokon's gaze makes the bridge creak.
Scarlet Scarab |
Scarlet compares the rocks she found with the Bee King versus the rocks in this formation...they're all rocks as far as she's concerned. She spends the night with her tummy full of bacon.

"Are you kidding? That bridge totally does not look fine. If it holds at all, we'd need to go one by one, and that means leaving the horses and the cart. I think we'll need to find another way!", Alia states, and the standing fur on Vega when he sees the bridge agrees with her.
Even if we could cross to explore, we'd need to cross back to continue the exploration path, then cross again once we're done here...unless we postpone that for when we return from our goal. So I'd vote continue our path, and find a way to cross later.
Scarlet Scarab |
Knowledge (Geography): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
"Hey! Both of these rocks are granite. I guess they were exposed after a long time." Scarlet seems impressed with herself. All that learning and rock study paid off.

"Are you kidding? That bridge totally does not look fine. If it holds at all, we'd need to go one by one, and that means leaving the horses and the cart. I think we'll need to find another way!"
Cart? I didn't think you had a cart? Given the terrain a cart would be very tough to make use of in the hills and impossible in the forest.
Celyne |
"I don't know anything about bridges, but I have to agree that one doesn't look safe... let's go another way."
we have a cart? I thought we just had a pack animal

Celyne |
"How did they get all the way over here then?" Celyne asks about the stones.
Alia of the Blade |
I thought Naleksa was keeping her stuff in a cart, tagging along behind us while we cartograph everything? Does she use pack animals for all her stuff? My mistake if so. Still, a pack mule carrying an Anvil would probably still be too heavy for the bridge, so...po-ta-to po-te-to...

"I might be able to make it across, but the horses surely won't. That bridge will come down, as sure as I am an Auritonius. Perhaps we can look around for a fordable place in the river instead? Otherwise we can leave the other side of the river for later."
Presumably we might find a ford if we are exploring this side of the hex. If we don't find one then we could explore the other side of the hex later.
"How did they get all the way over here then?" Celyne asks about the stones.
"It would be a lot of work, but you could use logs as rollers. A large team of men or draft animals could pull them. Just depends on how much effort you want to bother using."

The hills form a natural choke point for the river at the bridge, which varies between 40 and 80 feet across at most places. The Thorn River is aptly named because most banks seem to crowded with brambles.
Crossing the river at any point in this hex (aside from the bridge) would require some swim checks (in the DC 15 range).
The river rolls on. As does the party to the southwest.
