Game Master RPGGGM

With the heart of the Stolen Lands explored and the bandits who ruled there scattered, the long-contested realm finally lies open for pioneers and settlers to stake their claims.:
Amid the rush of opportunistic travelers, the PCs find themselves stewards over a new domain, tasked with the responsibility of guiding and guarding a fledgling nation struggling to grow upon a treacherous borderland. Yet the threats to this new nation quickly prove themselves greater than mere bandits and wild beasts, as the monstrous natives of the hills and forests rampage forth to slaughter all who have trespassed upon their territory. Can the PCs hold the land they’ve fought so hard to explore and tame? Or will their legend be just one more lost to the fangs of the Stolen Lands?

I suppose with a 1, I actually do leave myself open...I assume if there's no trap door or he does not try to flank, I'll be so off-guard that I'll be flat-footed against the second kobold?

Alia, Technically what you are attempting is two standard actions long. Which did you want to do this round: bluff/feint or attack? Either way I'll need you to reroll.

I do figure Numalar would know that his spell doesn't protect him against touch spells, and that's what the owl is doing. Numalar would be especially worried about the poisoned bolts of Meg's (assuming I am aware that Scarlet has been poisoned... am I?).

Not really. She's been strangely silent on that point. You might be able to figure out the ghoul touch by looking at it. Though I do suppose Zokon mentioned 'poison' earlier.

So we'll go with stopping that 3 points instead of the 1 nonlethal damage. I would have been staggered at 0 HP if I took the 3 points (and still able to hit Meg with something), though with 1 nonlethal it will only take 2 more points to knock me out.

That's fine, I'm just pointing out the owl was hitting you for physical damage as well as delivering a touch spell. Usually that's a riskier gambit than just using the touch, but that's one evil owl.

Tor is sort of a magus. One who uses a tiny owl as his intelligent, one-handed, slashing weapon.

I wanted to attack the Kobold but pretend to leave my back open. Not in terms of feinting to get a mechanical advantage against the second Kobold, but in terms of inviting him to strike my backside. I figured it would be as simple as NOT keeping track of him as well as I would usually.
That is, fake single-mindedly focusing on the second kobold while doing exactly what I'm doing in every regular battle to prevent being flat-footed against everybody except whoever I currently stab at. Hence why I thought this bluff could happen as a move action, as basically all I'm doing is NOT multitask, and only keep track of him out of the corner of my eye, rather than mentally(and visually) going back and forth between the two staying aware of them both. In effect, I want to lure him into doing what he'd likely do anyway. But if that takes a Standard Action, I'll rather just stab at his buddy.

No worries. It is just that when there is no combat mechanic for bluffing (either trying to convince someone of something or feinting) as faster than a standard action--aside from Improved Feint or the Unchained Rules--and you make a dice roll for it you befuddle your hapless GM. Technically getting an opponent to do what you want them to does give you a tactical if not mechanical advantage. You can certainly describe what you're shooting for but when dice get involved (especially the first roll in a set of actions) well... befuddlement.

A monster with the rake ability must begin its turn already grappling to use its rake—it can’t begin a grapple and rake in the same turn.

And well, it is unnecessary anyway.

Round 5

What Numalar does depends on whether Meg goes down. If she can act next turn then Numalar could be in trouble.

If Meg goes down:

Numalar coaxes Sir Didymus forward into the mist.
Since I made the spellcraft check, I figure I know that the spell has a 15' radius, and can probably guess where the center is from the outside of the cloud. I don't think I can use draconic defense again since my swift action this round is gone already, so I'll just eat the AoO from the owl. We will move to one square west of Meg (point "A"). Then I will cast burning hands pointing west. This will get all four squares where the spell could be cast from, including the one where Tor's Icon is (whether he is actually there or not).

If Meg is still up:

Numalar pulls Sir Didymus back a bit, and then prepares to cast a spell.
Sir Didymus will take a 5' step back to the southeast (to point "B"). Then I will cast burning hands pointing north-west. This will get Notch and Meg in the area of effect, and will once again singe Zokon's eyebrows.

Numalar waves his symbol.

"qul qa'!" he shouts.

Draconic:
"Fire of the Spirit"

He pops something in his mouth, and a broad tongue of flame pours out of his mouth. Numalar hacks and coughs afterwards, wisps of smoke coming from his mouth. He looks quite pale.

burning hands Reflex DC 16 (with saltpeter): 3d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) + 4 = 10

"Heh. That should clear away some of that mist," Numalar croaks.

@GGGM: Just realized I think I would be moving before the owl attacks me. Is that correct? If so, I will not take an AoO from the owl if I move. This also means though that the owl won't be in the area of effect of burning hands.

If I am in the mist when the owl attacks, then when I take my AoO against the owl we both have to factor in miss chances. If I attack the owl with the longspear Notch won't be in the fog but I will have to see through a foggy square.

Numalar's miss chance (if needed) 21%+ hits: 1d100 ⇒ 25

As before, if there is still a threat from Meg I will save draconic defense for her and not waste it on the owl. Actually, come to think of it I won't waste it on the owl at all from now on. Just Meg, or maybe Tor has a crossbow or something that I need to watch out for.

The owl only threatens the square you are both in. Unless you take a some sort of precaution (a withdraw action for instance), he gets an AoO. Notch hasn't moved this round, but he is not flat-footed. (He attacked you last round--your AoO happened on his turn in round 4 while you were still outside the fog). The current attack triggers as you move out of the (clear) square into the mist.

Evil owl of opportunity (talon, higher ground): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 14 damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1 1 nonlethal

The above was re-edited more times than I'd like to think about. ;)

reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Notch hasn't moved this round,

I think I get it... I was thinking he acted first. But he either had to move because Sir Didymus charged last round (if Notch moved first), or will have to move if he follows us and tries to attack me after my move. I wouldn't get an AoO on him if he didn't move.

If I understand correctly, since I go before Notch, the order would be:
Round 4: 1. Sir Didymus charged. 2. Notch followed us and is now in our square. I got an AoO.
Round 5: 1. We moved 2 squares. 2. Notch followed us and is now in our square again.

If the AoO I made was for Round 4, then Notch has not yet attacked in round 5, and I would get yet another AoO if he attacks me. Is that right?

The owl (nor his master) has moved this round (5)... yet. He's currently in the square you left him in. I'm waiting on Posh, Celyne and Luna to act before finishing out the bottom of the initiative order.

All of your last post is correct except for the above mentioned bit.

Okay, got it. It mixed me up at first because usually you leave their names in bold in the initiative order if they haven't moved.

Also, be careful...with 9 lethal and 2 nonlethal, you are at 1/12...one good hit from the owl will make you unconscious while your dog gorges itself on human flesh, so possibly waste the slot for windy escape...

Also, fun, I could have bet their caster used the fog to move to another position...as in, standard to cast, move to change spot. Guess his double-bluff didn't work out.

Celyne casts cure light wounds on Scarlet, sure it won't unparalyze her, but it will heal some or all of the damage on her.

cure light wounds Scarlet: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Then she moves toward Numalar, hoping to get to him next...

I'd send Luna to the nearest enemy, but to be honest, I'm not sure who is who... so just calling her to heel so she ends up near Numalar since I know there are enemies there.

Posh-bot:
As Fan has the inspiration underway, Posh runs around the pit and (perhaps uncharacteristically) toward the action! He see the fog cloud go up and slowly moves in only to see Numalar tumble to the ground.

Heal check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13

Posh rushes to him and his eyes go wide at the small sorcerer's condition. "He doesn't have a pulse." Posh squeaks gripping Numalar's forehead. "And he's burning up with fever, I think."

Rain howls the saddest howl anyone has ever heard and stays close to Fan and his friend in the pit.

Yes, it seems he did...ouch indeed.

Until now still oblivious to everything going on further away while focusing on the Kobolds, Alia hears Rain's sad howl penetrating the night air.
Something bad happened...can't waste time with these-
Alia stabs at the Kobold in front of her
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3) + 5 = 10

If Kobold is down:
Alia moves towards the fire, and attempts to get a quick overview of the situation.

If Kobold is not down(more likely):
Alia will five-foot step to the west/left...the field above me is difficult terrain then, right? - if not I'll move there instead, moving diagonally up&left

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I figured he had one more second level spell, but I thought if it was an offensive one he would have used it already. Was expecting invisibility or something like that.

Numalar can tank against melee guys but has no defense against energy damage. Next level I would have got Fire Resistance 5, but that's a little too late...
