Ingrid Van der Geist |
"So we have it temporarily disabled but like the others. we'll have to eliminate a certain number of major haunts to put these down permanently." Ingrid says studying the room. "How is everyone?"
Ravel Sigrún |
Dusting off her skirts and stamping out any smolders as the bats poof back in a silver cloud. She ensures Narcissa is calmed. "Rattled... but intrigued. The horrors that the living must have endured here have in turn created these horrors that linger at death's door. The warden's widow speaks of the most notorious of the prisoners... and what little is keeping their spirits in check. I only hope that our month here in Ravengro is enough time to get to the heart of this ethereal evil... to avenge our dear friend and to put an entire prison of restless at peace." Ravel idly thumbs the medallion about her neck. "Nightmarish."
Ioann Vilescu |
Considering the conversations that I taking place, I will consider that most of the fire has been extinguished.
Ioann's anger and frustration continue growing as he unsuccessfully searches a pile of debris for some kind of metal. As he moves toward another pile, he gives a look toward the room where the others are, and finally notices that every seems more calm. No more door bashing of high pitch goblin screaming for more fire. Ioann stops in his tracks, his shoulders sink, he throws his head backward and rolls his eyes. They don't even bother calling me back. Bah!
Enraged, he heads toward the room, picks up the sledgehammer, drags it as he walks past the other, bumping into most of them before reaching the skull's room. There, he unleashes his frustrations on a poor unsuspecting door.
Sorry if Ioann is not too talkative, but when mad, he does not pay attention to much... Take 20 on str check.
Ravel Sigrún |
Remembering the re-animated Professor, Ravel frowns. "I... wouldn't be so sure of that, Uklod. I think that is what our spiritual guide was warning us of, things are stirring and the barriers are weakening. The wards won't last much longer."
Terrance Foehammer |
I agree, it is Nightmarish, and also glad that it is stuck here.
However, this place I think we should investigate further, after a good days rest.
Ioann Vilescu |
The noise of cracking and splintering wood dies down once Ioann is satisfied with the state of the door, now looking like a pile of debris. The man takes a few steps toward the room where the others are. Head leaning forward, eyes staring at the ground, he waits for their decision, commenting to himself every so often.
"So that's it, no more pushing, who cares if the necromancer escapes... how cares that the ghosts take over this place...." he mutters.
Finaly, he speaks up to the others.
"If we don't go the the next room, let's at least make the Whisperers pay by destroying the runes they inscribed outside. That should protect the town from the spirits..."
I am soooo curious to enter the property room, but I guess it will have to wait... it would suck if only Ioann went in.
Ioann Vilescu |
Thank you! It was slightly obvious, being the last room that is on the other side of the building from lady Hawkran. However, even though Ioann is ready to go, the group seems to be getting fatigued, some having asked for a while now to stop the investigation. So I tried to get the best of best world. Moreover, with everyone being wounded, it seems like it would be dangerous to enter a new room. And, if only Ingrid and Ioann go in, wouldn't it be boring for the others?
Terrance Foehammer |
Fatigued and I am currently out of spells
Ravel Sigrún |
Ravel tentatively puts a hand on Ioann's shoulder. "The Professor asked us to stay a month, and you saw from his journals how long he researched this. If we rush we may miss something he wanted us to see or find. As troubling as it sounds, I don't think the necromancer is finished yet... at least not with us. One more room, then let us retire for today. If someone is still lurking here, and hasn't slipped out amongst the constant sound of splintering doors, then us retreating and coming back renewed isn't going to hinder them..."
Terrance Foehammer |
In that case, gather around before we go into the next room
Torag grant us help
channel: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Great, seems Torag isn't listening. :(
Ioann Vilescu |
Surprisingly, Ioann did not move away from Ravel's touch.
Of course she is right... and that thought only made Ioann more mad, mostly at himself. The man closed his eyes for a moment, trying to focus and not take it out on the gentle woman. Once he opened them, the others could see resignation reflected in them.
Without lifting his eyes from the ground, Ioann answered:
sight* "Fine. Let's get this done."
Alright, considering the change of pace today had, I will wait for others to join the conversation before leading Ioann the door breaker to the next room.
Ingrid Van der Geist |
It get's Ingrid up to full
"Alright we may as well get this done, just everyone be alert for danger."
Terrance Foehammer |
Aye, lets get it done.
Terrance grips his warhammer in a 2 handed grip, and waits for the door masher to knock the door down

What about damaging it until it breaks down? See iron door What kind of damage does a sledgehammer do?

From Ultimate Equipment pg 72
This heavy, two-handed hammer is normally used in carpentry and other construction tasks, and is also useful for driving in tent stakes to help secure campsites in areas with strong winds.
If used in combat, treat it as an improvised earth breaker
Ioann Vilescu |
Ioann gives a look to Ravel (who still has her hand on his shoulder) from the corner of his eyes. Somehow, through the mixed feelings of anger and resignation emanating from his expression, the witch can see thankfulness. It seems that for a moment, the man is freed from whatever plagues him.
This only lasts a moment, for Ioann's expression is filled with wrath as soon as he looks up toward the door barring them entrance to the property room. Walking away from the comforting hand of Ravel, he comes within 20' from the iron door. He takes a deep breath and rushes toward the door, sledgehammer lifted in the air.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16;Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 3) + 7 = 16
Enter rage for the next few rounds since the door will not give way on the first one. Plus according to the website I linked, attacking an object as a full round action does not require an attack roll.
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 1) + 9 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 6) + 9 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4) + 9 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4) + 9 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 1) + 9 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 5) + 9 = 20
Rage ends here
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
Seeing as the first hit does not take down the door, Ioann goes on hitting, letting out his anger. The man almost seems feral as he lands hits upon hits on the door, only to finally fall down form exhaustion.

The rest of you cannot help but to be in awe as the stoic man unleashes his fury on the metal door. You have never seen anything quite like it, and you are at once quite certain that you hope to never be the cause of his anger and the target of such might. The door finally lets go and falls inward, propped at an awkward angle as one severely bent hinge remains attached. Ioann falls, exhausted and panting heavily.
From the doorway, you see wooden shelves line the small room and on those shelves are an assortment of items.
Terrance Foehammer |
Laughing Terrance comments
Aye Ravel, I can live with that
He then walks over and offers Ioann a hand up
Ingrid Van der Geist |
"Impressive." Ingrid says shaking her head.
DM Twilight |
A bizarre collection of antique goods rests upon wooden shelves that line the room. Several of the items contain tiny tags with labels written in a careful script.
Although much of the remaining property is junk, a few items remain that may be of interest, including a set of masterwork thieves’ tools, a bronze war medallion from the Shining Crusade (worth 40 gp), an unframed Taldan painting of Stavian I (worth 100 gp), a set of a noblewoman’s silver hair clips (worth 35 gp), a masterwork punching dagger, a pouch containing a dozen masterwork shurikens, a masterwork silver war razor, and a wand of lesser restoration (12 charges).
Terrance +2 to the check
Terrance Foehammer |
percep: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 including the +2
After Ioann walks in, Terrance follows and looks around
Uklod Oiglus |
Almost as an afterthought Uklod hissed an orison to see magical aurus. He noticed the wand right away.
"This isn't all junk. That wand will most likely be helpful."
Following the other's lead he scanned the room for anything else.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
"And there," he said while pointing to the east wall; is a door of some sort I believe."
Terrance Foehammer |
How did I miss that?
Terrance picks up the wand.
Let us grab the rest of these things. according to the lady spirit over there he waves his hand in the direction of west we need these things to put some of the spirits to rest

Ake just smiles at the wrath and destruction.
Impressive, most impressive. Remind me not to anger him to often, Ravel.
Please..
Ioann Vilescu |
Ioann soon realized that the badge was nowhere to be seen on the shelves. At first flustered, he then remembered, just like Terrance, the importance of the items. Taking interest in them, Ioann bended forward, trying to read the inscription for each of them in order to link them to the different prisonners that had read about.
However, before he could read all of them, his attention was grabbed by Uklod's discovery of the secret door. Standing straigher, but still head bowed, Ioann approaches the others.
"Let's find out what was so important that they needed to hide it. Then we can grab whatever we need... Terrance, you have read the most about the prisonners, can you link any items to them?"
Upon hearing Ingrid's question, Ioann becomes silent, and instead of answering, simply approaches the secret door and tries to push it open.
What does the door look like? How is it hidden?
DM Twilight |
It's just a slightly different set to the stone, if you look closely, you can see the seams.
The door shifts when Ioann pushes on it, when he puts a little more weight into his shove, the door grinds across the dirt that's build up over the years to reveal a small room.
On the small shelf in this room:
A bloodstained handaxe labeled: Vance Saetressle ID#RD769
A dozen holy symbols on fine silver chains labeled: Sefick Corvin ID#HR331
A moldy spellbook labeled: Hean Feramin ID#RH998
A smith's hammer labeled: Ispin Onyxcudgel ID#HT487
A tarnished silver flute labeled: Name Unkown aka The Piper of Illmarsh ID#DF425
Terrance Foehammer |
I am thinking that these are the items the spirit was talking about. Lets get them as well, and go back to Lady Kendra's place for tonight.
Ioann Vilescu |
As lady Hawkran's words come back to his memory, Ioann abruptly takes the sack out of Terrance's hands.
"No need to curse yourselves. Let me carry those." he said, his tone sharper than usual.
Turning toward ravel he speaks with authority"No one touches anything until we know the nature of their curse."
As they make their way toward the entrance hall, Ioann speaks, not looking at anyone in particular.
"Should we not go and see the specter of lady Hawkran? She might want one of these objects."
Ingrid Van der Geist |
"I believe we should, before taking cursed objects into Kendra's home." Ingrid replies.
Terrance Foehammer |
A bit startled by Ioann's grabbing the sack out of his hands Terrance looks up with a bit of annoyance, but looks mollified with Ingrids statement.
In that case, let us go

You make your way back to the room where you encountered the ghost of Lady Hawkram and it appears empty at first. Crossing into the room, she begins to materialize. "Guards? Have they finally sent new guards?" She seems confused at first, but after a moment, clarity begins to set in and she says, "Oh yes, my guards. Have you not found my husband's remains? He still feels so far away..."
