Nightflier's Midnight Game Thread

Game Master nightflier

Set in the grim world of Aryth, Nightflier's Midnight is a game that speaks of almost futile hope that shines against the darkness.

AC=17 for the next two hours, Con = 13, HP=19

Just for that description, you get 1 FP.

A dwarf appears from the shadows as well. He carries two axes and there is a crossbow as well slung on a baldric so that it can be raised quickly. "Didn't the demon said something about the gnome and the raven?" he asks.
"For Izrador's sake! Oh, very well - kill the gnome first, but leave the stupid bird alone", she snaps.

Bluff:1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25

Lanik come running up for the front of the crowd, along the way he grabs some of the red and blue barres he has seal up in his rations and mashes then in his palm, Then smears it on his face to simulate bruises. The he bites the corner of his lip untill there is blood flowing down. Finaly he cuts his jacket just below the right shoulder

Well the jackets red so no need to come out with blood for that.

By the time Lanik reaches the front of the crowd he has added a fake limp and is completely playing it up.

you bastereds want a... Lanik breaths in a hard painful breath fight with me? Common, bring it!

If I wind up at the top of the init list then I want to hold an action to do a bluff check on the first attack that comes my way.

There is no one shorter than you in the group and you are pretty distinctive anyway. Could you elaborate what you had in mind to achieve with your rolls.

sorry, threw down the rolls and then after I saw what they were I wrote out what the effect was. I figure its faster then saying what I was going for and rolling, then waiting for a response to write more.

Dark Archive

Gonna wait for Sorok and Anang to see if they want to use their actions before rolling initiative.

That bowshot will be for that traitorous bi*** Zafina, BTW

Dark Archive

Okay, no more waiting. There are nine opponents, including Zafina and the dwarf. There are three crossbowmen, four soldiers, dwarf axeman and Zafina. I will roll separate initiatives for Zafina and the dwarf, but I will group crossbowmen and soldiers.
Zafina
Gilian
Ilona
Crossbowmen
Ragnar
Sorok
Lanik
Dwarf
Anang
Chops
Solvi

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

"Stay b'hind me, lass." Sorok says to Gillian, stepping in front of her and raising his shield. "Strange fer me t'be big enough t'do this fer someone."

Sorok gives Gillian Cover from the bowmen and sets himself in the way of anyone trying to get to her in melee. Action readied to interrupt the movement of, and attack, the first person to move in on her.

Don't suppose Sorok recognizes any of these dwarves?

There is just one dwarf, standing next to Zafina. He is obviously Black Blood, but you do not recognize him.

Sorry. Missread. Thought crossbow and axemen were dwarves too.

Dark Archive

Zafina quietly takes aim and looses an arrow at Lanik.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 161d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

and then, with lightning speed she draws another arrow and lets it fly.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 251d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Second arrow hits the gnome. "Finish him!" she shouts to those with crossbows.

Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5

Gilian moves to be just behind Lanik and delays her action to heal him if necessary. Just after their attack.

Gilian has got reach with her atharak so anyone trying to reach her will get an AoO.

"Moon curse it, woman! I cannae' Keep ye' from bein' filled full'o bolts if ye' don' stay b'hind mah sheild!"

I think for this plan to work, Sorok is going to have to refocus and put himself on the same initiative order as Gillian, move with her and pick his targets based on wherever she ends up. Will that work?

Did I hurt any of them with my attack?

Chops the Defender Dworg wrote:

You did. Both of them were crossbowmen.

Dark Archive

Crossbows are attacking Lanik anyway, so I'm gonna roll for them.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d10 ⇒ 1

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 141d10 ⇒ 1

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 131d10 ⇒ 10

Dark Archive

A crossbow bolt just scratches the gnome. "Curse it!", Zafina swears. "I can see why the demon wants that dog dead! Move on him!" she orders the soldiers. The soldiers will be moving to engage Lanik.

male Dorn Barbarian 2, Spiritual Channeler 2

Ragnar moves to stand in front of Lanik, staring down the approaching soldiers. "Brother, Anvinder, can you deal with those bowmen?"

Ragnar casts Summon Undead 2. Down to 1 SP now.

What's the range? If it's the same as in Summon Monster, you can not summon them in front of those with crossbows. They are too far.

Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5

As the blood flows from Lanik's wounds, Gilian places one of her hands on his back. Before she has time to concentrate to summon forth her healing power, she feels her hand and her amulet heat up as if they were acting independently. The wounds close and Zafina's arrow drop on the flow with a soft clink when it is expelled from the wound.

Uses healer path CLW for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

30' range. How far away are they?

If I summon them 30' out and they use their action (which they get immediately on being summoned) to charge, they can get at anything within 90 feet. Are teh bowmen father away than that?

Dark Archive

They are just in the range of heavy crossbows. That's about 120 feet.

Dark Archive

If Sorok remains to guard Gilian, the soldiers will move to attack Lanik. Since they can not get to him because of Ragnar, they will attack him. And I just realized that I haven't posted their order in the initiative. They act after Ragnar.

Dark Archive

Three soldiers bear down on Ragnar with grim determination in their eyes. They are tall and well muscled Erenlanders, armed with bastard swords and round shields with strange design on them. Their clothes are dark and they wear black brigandine armor.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 111d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

One of the soldiers misses, but the other two wound the noble Dorn. 14 points of damage

Right. Archers are too far away. Skeletons will go after Axemen instead. We'll just call Ragnar's action held until now, or the magic slightly delayed for some reason.

Edit: Apparently whatever caused the strange magical delay also causes skeletons to be unable to roll well. 9, 3, 4 and 4. What the hell are the odds of that?

2nd edit: and Muni whiffs too. 5 rolls, none above 10. Starting to feel like Chops...

male Dornish Spirit wildlander 1

Smoke and shadow coalesces into a grinning skeleton just behind one of the axemen. It immediately lashes out.

Flanking the one on Ragnar's left.

Claw attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Claw attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Dorn Spirit Channeler 1

A second skeleton materializes behind an axeman, striking with it's claws.

Flanking the one on Ragnar's right.

Claw attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Claw attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Raven Spiritual Channeler 5

Muni flies in the face of the axeman in the middle.

Dirty Trick again, also ending up behind and above him to flank. Going for Blinded condition. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

"Yep. Ignore the bird. That always ends well."

Well, if he has a low dex that might do the trick...

can lanik bluff that the arrow did a lot more damage then it did? Thats what I was planing to do. Take an arrow and act as though it had killed me. Thats what the bluff was for. To them I must look like I'm on the verge of death because of my disguise.

Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3

Ilona comes forward, wading elegantly into battle alongside Ragnar and striking at one of his attackers.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
1d12 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

"Solvi, put an arrow in that traitorous b~%#!'s eye!

You were thinking of those guys who attacked you? They use bastard swords. There is only one person with axes - dwarf that guards Zafina.

Dark Archive

Both skeletons of his fallen comrades and his raven fail to hurt his attackers. Even beautiful she-wolf fails to do so. The grim soldiers with the strange mark on their shields just look at his eyes, telling him without words that they will kill that gnome as ordered, even if they need to cut through Ragnar first.

Sure you can. That's a good idea. 50 XP. Only Zafina will roll to check your bluff.

Chops starts to jump past the swordsmen to attack the bowmen, but Gillian, senses his reckless charge, probably based on past experience with the dworg, stops him.

Gillian wrote:

Chops stops. "Your right. Thanks. I think I'll attack that guy to the right of Ragnar instead." Chops circles around and then charges and leaps through the air with a great flying kick towards the man's head.

Attack 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 20

I have no idea where anybody is, so I hope this works. Chops is going to double move and then use his speed training for a total of three moves giving him 120 feet of movement. That should land him right in front of Zafina and the crossbowmen. He will obviously try to avoid AoO's but if he has to set one of, here is his check

Acrobatics 1d20+8

Chops locks eyes with Zafina. His own blue eyes cold with icy fury. He bursts into a sprint, gravel and sand kicking up from his feet as he careens towards the bowmen and Zafina. He skids to a halt in front them. Still staring at Zafina, he spreads his arms.

"What up now b@&#&!"

This is a very bad idea. You may want to reconsider. They can just take a five foot step back and turn you in a pincushion. If you let me, I will remove the range fighters from the equqtion for a few rounds. That should be enough to let us deal with the melee men. Gilian has seen the demon doing his shadow stuff and will reproduce that next round by casting obscuring mist on the group. that will protect us from the archers if we move within. You'll be more efficient if you gang up on the soldiers.

As Chops starts to run forwards, Gilian tries to stop him. "Don't do stat, go for the soldiers, Chops. I can take care of the crossbowmen and of Zafina."

Lanik reciveing the last arrow, staggers. His eyes buldge for a second and then roll back into his head. His body stiffens and he give one last forced breath as he falls over dead.

"The gnome seems to be down. Kill the healer next!" shouts Zafina. Dwarf next to her mutters, "Aye" and raises his crossbow. One after another, two bolts fly toward diminutive healer.

Damn. I need some healing... By an aside question, I'm wondering how you can get the two attacks at +9 for the dwarf with a +5 damage with a crossbow unless the character is more than level 5.

male Dorn Barbarian 2, Spiritual Channeler 2

Isn't Sorok providing cover? A small creature (gillian) should be able to get full cover behind a medium one (sorok), as long as all the medium creature does is stay in the way, essentially acting as an object. How did Zafina and the dwarf even have a shot?
