Caught off guard by the blue man group, Roj flails wildly with the morningstar he still holds. It misses badly, but he follows it up with a bash from his shield.

Eric's spell put's both of the creatures on the floor.
Bordan steps back and strikes out at one of the creatures, but just misses it.
Gwen steps forward and brigs her breatsword clattering to the floor with a clang, but again, the creature manages to evade the strike.
Basil strikes the prone form in front of him, causing it to curse. A large blood stain begins to form on it's rags where they are uncovered.
Roj fails to make contact with his sword, but a backhand blow with his shield raises a muffled curse from the creature.
The creatures strike back from the floor.

Basil Kettering |

"Hey! Good job with that Grease!"
Taking advantage of the fact that the creatures are flat-footed and prone, Basil stabs viciously at the one in front of him.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 4 = 13, for 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16 damage.

Borden also is eager to capitise on the advantage on the downed creatures.

Concentrating on the fight, Roj has only time for a quick not at Erik before he goes back to bashing away at his foe.

"Eric, watch our backs! Remember the sound we heard!"
Gwen tries again her greatsword against the closest enemy:
Power attack w/greatsword: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 1 = 152d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 + 3 = 15
ah, these awful rolls are Killing me.

While Eric keeps an eye out for further attackers, everyone else lays into the creatures.
Bordan's blow goes wild, Gwen's makes contact, shattering bone and making the things screech in pain. Basil takes out the one stood in front of it, his sword finishing a gap in it's armour, and Rog bases the final one unto unconsciousness.

Erik Copper |

Erik blushes, and rubs at the back of his head in pleasure over the compliments. "I, um, thanks!"
He creeps forward, casting glances over his shoulder in the direction they'd come, and stares down at the corpses. "What are they things? Some kind of cave dwarf?" He considers one of the crossbows, then looks to the others. "I'm going to take one of these, yeah? Could be a little more effective than my sling."
If nobody objects, Erik's grabbing a light repeating x-bow plus bolts.

Rojerick Alandsson |

"Should we have a look at whatever made that sound? I'd hate to get caught in these tunnels fighting on both sides." Roj pokes at one of the creatures with a foot. "Anyone have a clue what these are? They sure don't seem undead."

Borden Read |

Curious things aren't they? I'll also take a crossbow. Better than my sling as well.
He helps himself to the other crossbow and bolts.
Lets go hunting then - where was that other sound coming from?

![]() |

Ok, I've re-exported the map, zoomed out a little. The fork where I've placed Eric is where you heard the noises, the buzzing sound you didn't investigate comes from the easterly fork, obviously.

Borden Read |

Agreed
Pity we don't have a cleric - a Channel would be nice about now
He fails in behind Gwen, longspear at the ready.

![]() |

Yeah, this part of the AP is *hard* on the characters. The dungeon seems to be designed as though you start it at 100% resources, but with the chase scene, there's just no real way to do that. Time is very short at the moment, and your characters will feel it by the end of this section. This is basically the last section of the module though, we will be on Seven Days in a very short period of time....

![]() |

Ok, what's your plan, Gwen is being quiet, is she sneaking forward to get the drop on him, or are you all sneaking forward? I need stealth checks from everyone who's moving towards the sounds if you are.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I always said I was backing Gwen... the others can stay behind - I can give a manly and in no way girly scream if I get into problems

Wow!
Borden follows Gwen with the stealth of a serial adulterer creeping out of a bedroom whose male inhabitant has just arrived home.

Three wooden tables stand in the middle of this room, their surfaces stained red with old bloodshed. To the east stands a ten-foot-wide hutch with wicker doors opening into a strawlined cage.
Stood at the closest table is another of the creatures, he doesn't notice Gwen and Bordan enter. It appears to be tending to a body lying on the table, there are four creatures like oversized bees attached to it. There are two more Bee things in a cage, close to it.

Borden Read |

Borden doesn't believe in nobility - he stabs the creature with his longspear from over Gwens right shoulder, leaving Gwen ready to swing on her own.
Spear with Power Attack and arcane strike: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 1 = 11 for 1d8 + 4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 3 + 1 = 10
Heres hoping my surprise attack vs flatfooted works. If its wearing armour? It wont

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

Gwen, on the other hand, doesn't believe in idleness:
Power attack w/greatsword: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 - 1 = 122d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 4 + 3 = 16
Yeah, hoping for flat footed as well.

Borden Read |

We'll Yell for help then - we still get the first round where it is flat footed because it hasn't acted yet - hopefully we can take it down and the withdraw towards the group or find a choke point in a corridor to fight these bees off one at a time

Just in case I wasn't clear. At the start of the fight, the "bee things" are in a cage, or on the corpse. The ones on the corpse aren't looking much of a threat, they are feeding.
Eric and Gwen's blows both go wide.
Round 1, from the top. Someone please run Roj until he's back.

Basil Kettering |

Basil then moves forward (AA24), and takes a swing at the creature, hoping to put it down quickly and quietly.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 = 21, for 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9 damage.

Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |

Gwen frowns and swears at the squandered opportunity, then tries again:
Power attack w/greatsword: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 7 - 1 = 222d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 + 3 = 9
Gwen is in AA22.

![]() |

While Erik dawdles, Bordan and Gwen strike out again at the creature, both connecting solid blows, and between them, taking it down.
The four bee things on the table don't seem to notice the change in circumstance. The two in the cage keep on their buzzing, but look to be secure.

Basil Kettering |

"Good job, everyone!"
Basil eyes the bee-things cautiously.
"Anyone have any idea what those are?"
He then begins to cautiously explore the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7.
Someone else may want to take a look. Just saying ;-)

Erik Copper |

Eric remains warily at the back of the group, not liking the look of the bees, as he too takes a moment to examine the environs.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Erik Copper |

Eric allows his gaze to wander from the bees to the other objects in the room, and then pauses to scrutinize the very walls themselves.
"Hey..." he begins hesitatingly. "Do you guys see that? That section of the northern wall there? Doesn't it look kind of fake?"
Eric points out a portion of the wall, and then turns to the rest of the group with a mixture of curiosity and excitement in his face.
