Feeling as useful as a chocolate teapot, Erik forces himself to creep forward, heartened by his comrade's destruction of the skeletons and ashamed by his own lack of contribution. Gulping again, hands steadier, he moves right into the mouth of the cavern, sights one of the skeletons in the distance, and biting his lower lip, lets fly with another sling stone.

At the sight of the stone actually connecting, he feels a thrill of victory. "I hit it!" he calls out, then immediately blushes, realizing how small a wound he's done.

@Eric You can't actually see the one in O17, which is probably how you've missed that it's down ;) The one at M16 is a suitable target though so...

Bordan steps forward and downs the next Skeleton in line. Eric's stone distracts the final skeleton enough for Roj to take it down with one huge blod from his morningstar.

Erik shakily stows away his sling, and then steps up to stand next to Rojerick, his face pallid, his arms crossed tightly over his chest.

"My spells - the one's I memorized earlier today before I knew we'd be tangling with the undead - well. They're mostly enchantments." He looks up at the older man, uncertainty writ large on his young features. "Which are pretty useless against the undead? I mean, I've only got two spells that will be of any use against them - grease and burning hands. The rest? Maybe I can use them against the necromancer himself, but..."

Erik trails off, clearly unhappy. "I think for the most part I'm going to have to settle at hurling sling stones against the walls and ceiling. Sorry."

Ok, that's 300 XP each.

A search of the room doesn't give up any secrets, and certainly nothing worth stealing. This is a place where the poor, and apparently the odd monster, were interred, so they wouldn't have anything left to bury them with. If they did, they'd have a better grave.

There is a tunnel leading Southwards though.

In addition to that spoiler above, you can tell that there are no more than two, and that they are not human. They are not speaking a language you know. There is the odd bang as of a stone hitting wood now and again, and sometimes a softer sort of suppressed bang.

The path forks up ahead, going left or right. Both paths appear dark, but you can't see very far down them.

Ohhh good, you got all of the good rolls out fo the way before the combat starts!

Rank with the stink of sweat and mud, this cavern contains four filthy straw pallets and a low table covered with dice and a miniature maze of carved clay.

It also contains two small "men", with pale blue skin, bulging white eyes, wild hair, four-fingered hands, and a large hooked club. They stand either side of a rough table, with their game abandoned.

There are no lights, other than your own.

DC Result

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) DC 13:
This pale-skinned dwarf-like creature is a derro, a degenerate and evil creature of the underground. This result reveals all monstrous humanoid traits.

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) DC 18:
Derro are afflicted by a form of racial madness that gives them delusions of grandeur and a sadistic streak a mile wide. Of course, though other creatures realise this, no derro is capable of recognizing he is out of his mind. A derro is so confident of himself that this manifests as a defence for magics that attack an individuals willpower, against which their deranged minds would naturally have little defence. Derro speak common and undercommon.

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) DC 23:
Though their madness-induced high charisma make derro natural spontaneous casters, they are also highly adapted to a life of stealth and subtefuge. They have the ability to take advantage of unaware or distracted foes to place a telling blow much like a rogue does, are natural poison users and suffer no risk of exposing themselves to the toxins they employ, and have a racial knack for staying quiet and hiding from view.

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) DC 28:
Derro are capable of creating some minor illusory magic and are themselves quite resistant to magic. They are vulnerable to sunlight, but need to stay exposed for hours for this to be damaging to their health. It is possible for derro to be cured of their madness, but only through the use of the most powerful of magics.

Taking advantage of the fact that the creatures are somewhat off-centre from having charged, Basil starts to adjust his position for a flank, and takes a swing at the same target as Borden.
