The Azata heals the party up a bit before disappearing back to the ether. (Two cure serious and five cure lights all at 7th level so we should be fine.)

Kyffin is pleased the fight went their way, ”Well that went well. We overwhelmed them with force. Well done all.”

He stands by, ready to help, though he’s already thinking about the water trials they must survive tomorrow.

We don't know how long the passage created by the stellae will remain open, right? It's currently closed though Lowls apparently used it (Right?), meaning it either closed after him or someone he left behind closed it for him. We should probably wait until we're ready to leave before activating the last stella.

You had six days after the first one. So you could attune this one (as Tristain just did) and then do the Path to the Black Stars ritual at any time.

As Tristain performs the ritual, the stela’s flattened face glows softly with several yellow, eldritch runes. Olkoshim grumbles slightly -- "Its glow draws attention from the stars" -- but seems thrilled that you have dispatched the nagas, giving him free rein of the observatory.

After resting, you prepare to head for the crater lake to deal with the recovering Great Old One that dwells there and is the source of suffering in the region since Earthfall. After you make your preparations, you set out. The crater lake slopes gently from the edge toward its center, descending to a maximum depth of 550 feet. Thanks to the water’s clarity, you can see trails of sediment that suggest a quadrant in which you might begin your search.

”I have free swim today. It’s not as good as freedom of movement, but it’s enough I think. Maybe Starflit or Al could use it. Thanks for the life bubble! Love that spell.”

Kyffin starts his day with Magic Vestment after breakfast on his buckler (14h) as usual.

If they know, roughly, where they’re entering the water to cause trouble, there he’ll cast Free Swim (140m) and Magic Circle against Evil on himself (140m).

As you get close to the lake, preparing yourself to enter, you see the water start to bubble and ripple and then something emerges, a monstrously huge husk of a Great Old One! You can feel its unspeakable presence rolling over you! Need a DC 27 Will save from anyone. If you fail, it causes you to capitulate to the husk’s rotting attacks and become a seeded creature; you lose your Dexterity bonus to AC against the husk’s attacks. You also are forced to move at least your speed toward the husk each round until you enter its reach (so until you're 20 feet away).

Yes, you can certainly have cast communal protection from evil ahead of time.

Tristain knows it resists damage unless they're magically lawful weapons. It's immune to ability damage, aging, cold, petrification, and the usual undead things.

It can constrict, rend, and trample foes. Its tentacles inflict a horrible affliction that withers the flesh, digesting the victims with sickening speed. This catastrophic withering begins when the tentacle deals damage and continues for 4 rounds thereafter. Each round the rot persists, the target must succeed at a DC 27 Fortitude save or take 2 points of Constitution damage and 2 points of Wisdom damage. If the target succeeds at two consecutive saving throws, the effect is cured. Heal also ends the effect.

The unspeakable presence does not specifically indicate it's enchantment/compulsion, but does call it a compulsion at one point, so I'll treat it as that.

Starflit's eyes and mouth open in awe and fright at the monstrosity before her...and from its insidious attack. At the last moment, though, the inquisitor steels her will and resists.

How do we defeat such a thing...?

Tristain's spell and Lothan's brief but surprisingly wise words (for him, at least) stiffen 'Flit's spine and resolve. First she calls forth twin judgments (Protection and Purity); next she casts a spell (judgment light) on herself, feeling that every little advantage might be needed against so mighty a foe. Suddenly, brief flashes of light emanate from the inquisitor (amber then white), washing over her friends and fortifying them for the iminent fight. Finding her voice again, Starflit chirps at Tristain, "WhatSortOfCreatureIsThisThing? Aberration?EvilOutsider?Demigod?" Lastly she starts to scoot a bit closer to the unholy terror (60', thanks to haste), moving slightly away from the main group to defend against any area attack the thing might possess.

Judgment Light Effects:
Protection: Amber light erupts from the caster, granting allies in the burst a +2 sacred bonus to AC and CMD, and a +4 bonus to AC against critical confirmation attack rolls for 1 round per caster level.

Purity: White light erupts from the caster, allowing each ally within the burst to attempt a saving throw against a single effect that allows a saving throw with a +2 sacred bonus on the roll.

Is this thing an aberration? Teralindar’s Honor wants to know, and I don't see it above though I might have missed it.

He’s happy it is coming up out of the water. Well, happy is stretching it a bit. But better to fight it here then in the water.

He’ll move up 60’ to be alongside Starflit. He’ll swiftly ensorcel his armor (+3 sacred). Then he’ll summon another Azata battle companion. He’ll summon her 60’ ahead of his current spot along Starflit.

WOULDN'T I HAVE DONE THAT IF IT WERE CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ME TO SENSE THAT (NOT THAT IT IS YET -- GET CLOSER SO WE CAN FIND OUT AND SMITE IT!). THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE ME, ISN'T IT, BECAUSE YOUR SENSES AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH!" the sword thunders, seeming to react to no clear stimulus.

Starflit doesn't know anything more about it.

I’d have to crit my save to get half damage (technically roll a 22). My odds are better hitting with an attack. Same with the Azata.

Kyffin makes an attack of opportunity.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 16 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 16 + 6 - 4 = 20 (power, hero)
damage: 1d10 + 17 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 17 + 4 = 23 (power)

The Azata makes an attack of opportunity
Lilend Greatsword: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 12 - 4 = 20 damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 4) + 8 = 16

Kyffin rushes back the other way (60’ with haste), closing as best he can. Before he leaves though, he tries to staunch some of his already substantial injuries, swiftly boosting his healing with a blessing.
CCW: 4d8 + 14 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 6) + 14 = 31 +50% = 46hp total healing.

The Azata, still a husk, simply reverses course, closes with the beast (provoking), and swings again. She has a 70’ move, so 140’ flying charge. If she’s further away than that, no swing, just flight.
Lilend Greatsword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22 damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (6, 2) + 8 = 16

Kyffin considers his pathetic showing and hopes the others do better before Lothan is a grease spot.

As the horror tramples over you, your blows draw ichor, but not enough to slay the beast. Before it can make another pass, however, you manage to bring it down! Well, that fight ended up being anticlimactic... Knowing that the threat has been taken care of, you realize you are free now to perform the second ritual, Path to the Black Stars, to follow Lowls and perhaps finally end his threat!

”Holy s&%&! Nice shooting Lothan. I feel all I did in this one was get hurt…”

If the Lilend is able to do anything but husk, she’ll cast some healing. If not, Kyffin simply dismisses her.

Healing on Lothan.
CSW x2: 6d8 + 14 ⇒ (5, 8, 4, 3, 5, 1) + 14 = 40

Healing on Kyffin.
CLW x5: 5d8 + 25 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 3, 4) + 25 = 41

Kyffin will then touch Lothan, Al, and himself with the grateful touch of healing (fast healing 3 for 1 minute).

If you need further healing, top up with the wands and I’ll keep track of charges.

”That was an unholy menace. We’ve done a days work and that’s a fact.”

Is there a specific place we need t go to perform the ritual?

”I say we go to [specific place] and make camp. In my experience, these rituals are dangerous things, and I’m all geared up for swimming today.”

”That said, if we’re worried about time - and we should be - I am prepared to proceed today. I’ve still got a lot of juice left.”

He looks to the others for their thoughts as he heals.

He stops and thinks, "Do you think it had a lair? I've got all my swimming spells going..."

Tristain takes a moment to decide how he feels about that, but then remembers that he had saved Lothan's life before and only somewhat regretted it, and so wasn't going to begrudge Starflit sharing the burden of being somewhat responsible for all the ill and good things Lothan will ever do.

Oh boy, that is not something I want to think about.

Tristain immediately find a good bonking wall and tries to bonk that entire train of thought out of his head.

Not needed: Starflit still has the spell slots remaining to cast 5 cure moderate wounds AND cure serious wounds spells.

I'll roll them out if we're planning on completing the ritual and moving out immediately to see what resources she'll have left for...the other side.

LOL! I'm not sure there's enough bonking for Tristain to get THAT out of his mind. LOL!

Rising to a seated position, Lothan shakes the cobwebs out of his head. Looking around, "Well alright! I'm still kicking! Thanks, Butterfly. I knew I could count on you. Hope you weren't too sad by thinking I was dead." He grins slyly and gives her a wink.

Standing up, he brushes himself off. "Gonna take more than a big ol' blob to take the Lothan down," he says as he works a few kinks out.
