Kaklatath tries, but it doesn't seem to have any luck.

"I don't think they recognize me in this body," it says. "Perhaps if we can find my own body, I would be able to help."

Tristain thinks it's probably a warning. They'll likely attack you if you proceed further this way/toward the doors (and defend themselves if you attack them).

Starflit seems undecided on how to proceed. "Maybe seek out Kaklatath's real body first and try to have her negotiate as Plan A and have a ranged attack as Plan B? I could always cast ears of the city again--as much as I hate doing that in this forsaken place--and try to get a lead on where it might be found."

He waits to hear what Starflit learns.

Once again, Starflit hears from the city, its voice like an oily taint on her soul.

1. It dwells beneath the city, dead but not dead. It has become a favorite toy of those from even farther below. It's in the warrens you're in, somewhere.
2. They stir from their slumber. Once they fully wake, no longer will they be bound behind stone doors. Note that you're in a room with stone doors.
3. They came to fight the polyps. So they came to die for no purpose, throwing their lives away meaninglessly, like you seek to do now. Turn back, or share their fate!

He sighs. "So can we kill the constructs now? Or do we find Kaklatath's body first?"

He'll head off to find Kaklatath's body.

You've encountered the Leng ghouls before, so I think you already know about them. Similarly, you've encountered infected creatures before here, so you're familiar with those changes. Kaklatath could certainly have told you about Yithians on your trip here, so you can look at those.

Al looks at the body in the circle of ghouls for a moment, then turns his attention to the creatures surrounding it. "Ah, I see from the gleam in your eye that you aren't the normal ghouls that think with their stomachs, so then surely we can reach a comprise in the negotiation for this body." Albert appears the complete diplomat, though only the party knows that isn't true, and with a gesture of acceptance he steps forward towards the lengers. "There is much we can offer to benefit your goals, without compromise of our ideals as they may be. This can be a transaction that is good for both parties. May we negotiate?" One of them whispers to the apparent spokesghoul. "That one says her true body is ... this? If so, that seems like it only makes sense to make that trade. You give us that body and you can have this one."

Overall, they consider 3,000 gp worth of magical scrolls and spellbooks to be a fair price, though will settle for 1,500 gp worth if you can share truly novel lore; succeeding at a DC 40 Knowledge (arcana, dungeoneering, planes, or religion) check is sufficient for this purpose. ”…and you see that’s why one’s taint is the true center of mass for the purposes of divination or hallucinagenic applications,” Tristain underlines some key bullet points on his chalkboard as he finishes his presentation. ”Any questions?” He claps the chalk dust off his hands and looks around.

Aren't we trying to get Kaklatath's body? Isn't that the infected thing we're negotiating for? I have a confuzzle that would be easily fixed around a table, but here it's weird.

Kyffin? Do we have anything from the loot that might work? Seems like we've sold most of it?

Kyffin frowns at the parties shenanigans. "I am not giving them loot to be used for their evil. Going out of our way to avoid hurting constructs is bad enough, but this is totally uncalled for!" He shouts by the end. He glares at Al wondering how he could even consider this.

He swings his scimitar around, itching to get on with it.

If the ghouls step away from the body to peer in the bag, then Al will launch the attack, but if they stay by the body then Al launches the attack, and if they do anything else Al launches the attack.

Yes, you're trying to get Kaklatath's original body, which is the infected thing. The ghouls want the human body Kaklatath is inhabiting. As noted, you'll need to destroy the undead yithian form, kill Kaklatath’s human vessel, and then cast resurrection on its yithian body. (Kaklatath is fine with that.)

That said, sounds like the plan is to attack. I'll roll initiative tomorrow (it's been a long day already).

Kyffin: 10*
Tristain: 24
Starflit: 22
Albert: 21
Lothan: 27

As combat breaks out, Tristain uses his mind magic to speed you up, with more bonks for everyone. Starflit's spell catches the ghouls unaware, and Al quickly finishes off the nearest one, and Lothan's arrows one of the others.

The third yells for the Kaklatath's seeded body to attack and it lumbers forward, with the ghoul leaping toward Al. 11 hp, plus DC 22 Fortitude save or be paralyzed The yithian body lurches at Kyffin, who's able to avoid its snapping pincer.

Tristain and Al finish off the ghoul, leaving the rest of the group to concentrate on the yithian's body. Kyffin slices it once, while Lothan sinks a few arrows into it. Still, it remains on its feet, and lashes out at the half-orc, who easily avoids its attacks. It's just a matter of a few more seconds and you're able to dispatch it.

Kaklatath blinks at the carnage of its former body, then looks up at you all. "It had to be done," it says. "But do we have a way to restore me to my true form?"

I mean, did you guys even pay attention?” Tris looks at the party, hopeful that someone learned something. He avoids focusing too much on that one bump/nodule on Lothan’s head.

Starflit, don’t suppose you have access to Raise Dead, do you? We’ll need that or resurrect to get her going again. Might be the local shopkeeper has a solution if we don’t.

”Yeah, we’re working on that Kaklatath. We’ll work something out.”

Kyffin smiles, ”I can cast it tomorrow if you can't Starflit. I even had the foresight to bring a diamond along. Keep in mind, it’s our only one, so if one of you blokes goes down, you’re out of luck until we can get another one.”

He suggests, after a thorough search of the area, they rest here. It's a slightly short day, but no one wants to carry a dead body around...

Mott’s correct. I have to take a special infusion later to get more than one blast a turn. I’m probably going to steer toward infusions that let me make my blasts into AoE’s or the like instead, just for a little more variety in my round-to-round choices.

Only thing so far that’d really help Tenebrynn was the constitution belt we got, but that’s a dream belt. Even though Con modifies everything Tenebrynn does, I really don’t care enough about the bonus to deal with the bookkeeping that’d involve. =P

Boots are probably best for you, Kyffin, those are super useful on the heavy hitter. And Con belt to Tenny. I'm not worried about wealth levels, Albert is doing alright as a damage sponge and party shield and that's what he's meant to be.

Jasno, wanted to make sure you'd seen this:
You should each separately track items you gain in the Dreamlands. You do not keep these items in the waking world, but retain them whenever you return to the Dreamlands (even when you arrive in an entirely different part of the Dreamlands or much later than the last time they visited). In the event of duplication of items worn (such as if you have one armor in the real world and get another one here), you must choose which item is worn and which is neatly stowed in a pack or bag at the time you enter the Dreamlands. Also, charges you use here aren't used in the real world (though the opposite is not true, so if you have a wand with 50 charges, use 10 here, then use 5 in the real world, you'd have 45 charges in the real world and 35 in the Dreamlands.

I realized earlier that I hadn't calculated hit points. Forgot to ask how I should set hp in character creation. Thus far I'm seeing 58 hp in damage, which is approaching max hp for Jasno if calculated max each level. Checking in as he may be down for the count at this point. Hit dice: D8 (4 lvls), D6 (2 lvls), D8 (1 lvl)

HP is 1/2 die +1.

So that would be 8 at Level 1, +20 (4d8) +8 (2d6) +14 (Con * 7) = 50 hp by my calculation (plus any FCB you may have applied).

So that would put you at -8 hp.

Having stayed away from multiclassing in the past I can see now my character concept needed a bit more editing. Game to tweaking things behind the scenes, but also fine moving forward as is. Just figured I'd toss this up here incase there was a need for Jasno here to be a bit more impactful :-)

I think it might be easier if you read it as Rogue (eldritch scoundrel) 4 / Witch (tatterdemalion & wyrmwitch) 2 / Storm Kindler 1.

It's still complicated, but I think that makes it a little more how they're commonly expressed.

I think I'm still not quite sure how the build will work, Jasno. The last two combats weren't really the most indicative of what will hopefully happen. I'd say let's see how it goes, and if you want to change it, we can retrain/retcon.

Oh, I'm sorry, it's not so much the parsing of the classes and archetypes, but more that I'm utterly unfamiliar with all 3 of the archetypes and with storm kindler, which I can only presume is a prestige class.

As I get older and our game systems deepen and widen with options, I find I'm able to hold onto less and less of it.

Things we picked up in the Dreamlands have 'Dreamland' in blue and italics to the right and have '0' value (in the real world anyway).

But sure, you can pick Dreamland gear too - just know it only exists there.

Thank you. Will take a look over spreadsheet and post update.

There's nothing that I really want or am particularly itching to get my hands on.
Tenebrynn does have the Dreamlands belt of mighty con +2, though.

If the real-world +1 cloak of resistance doesn't yet have a home after everyone else is outfitted, Tenebrynn will take it. Wait, never mind. I forgot I have a cloak of elvenkind. Carry on. Carry on.

Riverton has a base value of 1,000 gp for mundane items (so 75% chance anything worth that or less is available). It's 500 gp for arcane magic items, but 2,000 (!) gp for divine ones.

It has a 5,000-gp purchase limit so can't buy anything for more than that.

It's just across the water from Kyonin, so I'll say you can find an elven curve blade.

Tristain would claim the cloak of resistance +1 and the ring of protection +1 if no one wants them. He really doesn't need the ring, but if none of y'all are going to take it, he will. Rows #148 & #149 or #165 & #166 on treasure sheet.

Would be interested in +1 ring of protection also. Mainly interested in dreamlands version.

AC: 34 (f27/t14); CMD: 27; F: +16, R: +12, W: +17; Perc +14

Tristain, all yours. Jasno, there's a ring of protection +1 on the treasure sheet from the Dreamlands. I've given it to you. Just remember, it ONLY works in the Dreamlands.

Al's shopping list:

logic: 1 and (2 or (3 or 4))

1. Cloak of Resistance and a Feather Token (Tree), if they can be found

2. Masterwork Elven Curve Blade

3. Cold Iron Elven Curve Blade

4. Elven Curve Blade

You're right across from Kyonin, so you can find an elven curve blade. 75 percent chance for the others.

Hey all, just want to let you know that I feel like I'm slowing down on this, and apologize. I want to get back to trying to post daily, since I think that makes for the best game. I've finally finished a large project I've been working on and hope that will help me get back on pace.

Now this coming week is Virtual PaizoCon, which may take some of my time, but I do fully intend to trying to devote more time to the games I'm running.

Let me know when/if you want to me to move you on. I think Tristain will need to do some more research for the three remaining quests: the Night hag ambassador’s heartstone, the captain’s tricorne, and the red webbed foot.

Nothing to see here, carry on: 1d9 ⇒ 6

I'll be out of town / away from internet connectivity this Sunday through Wednesday next week.

Request? I think I complained like a complaining complainer! Well thanks for listening to my wailing, begging, and weeping.

Sorry, all, busy couple days at work. I expect to return to posting Wednesday.

Hey all, I'm heading out of town Tuesday-Saturday. This seems like a decent spot to leave things for the week, so will hold off on posting, though feel free obviously to speculate and role-play in my absence.

M Dwarf 55 hp. AC: 13* (f12/t13)*; CMD: 16; F: +6, R: +6, W: +9

Thanks for the clarification on the ring. We can put the +1 ring (dreamlands only) back on the party inventory.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Oh, almost forgot. As you prepare to return to the Dreamland, you can't help but think over the horrible experiences of the last trips. You realize you've learned a lot in that time ... in fact, enough to be 9th level!

Sorry for the delay.
