Hear ye! Hear ye!
Now recruiting for a RAW 1st to 20th level Pathfinder PbP set in a version of Medieval Europe where magic and monsters of myth and legend exist....
Gilgamesh, Beowulf, Arthur, Robin Hood, et al are historical figures rather than semi-legendary or outright myths....
Artifacts such as Excalibur, the Holy Grail, and Mjolnir are real....
A great red wyrm from Mercury has flown to Earth and has taken up residence in Mt Vesuvius, and demands (and receives) annual tributes of gold, jewels, and maidens from the kingdoms of Europe....
Who will (eventually) bring an end to this fiery tyrants reign of terror (after first gaining levels chasing gremlins out of cathedrals and purging catacombs of undead)?

Okay Mike,
You know I've wanted to play this since you thought of it a few months ago. Hopefully I'll have time for my Ranger-like PC from Norway -- cousin of King Eric I, buddy of King Henry V in his war in France.
Or maybe -- if I can't find time -- I can be a recurring NPC expert on English history, as we discussed.

Rynjin |

Hmmm. Considering either an Alchemist (apprentice of Flamel?), Shaman (flavored as a member of the Druidic order), or Cavalier (rejected Knight of the Round?).
Will there be room for horsies and lance shenanigans for the majority of the campaign? If not, I could go Daring Champion on the Cavalier, which could be fun.

![]() |

Will someone explain Meeko's character concept to me (other than Rob); I don't know anime stuff.
.
.
.
Rynjin, good to finally play in a PBP w/ you; I've admired (many of) your posts for a few years now.
.
.
.
Mike, it's not too late to run Savage Tide instead!
(I've been bugging Mike to run STAP all 4 years I've been gaming with him.)

Hoenheim Dobberkau *Nacht* |

Makes sense, Long story short. His character is based on a powerful mage from the Movie named.. Howl's Moving Castle.. Which ofcourse is named for Howl.. the mage. In general he does things such as fly, make constructs and polymorph all to his whim. As such Arcanist was a fine choice because of the ability to changes quickly as well as gather other effects not easily created by spells.
If you would like more there is a Wiki on it available.

Hoenheim, that's what we were just talking about -- how long we've been gaming together.
Mike and I have been gaming for, I think, 4 years. I recruited Rob about 2 or so years ago from our LGS. But we're not completely sure. The other guy (Will) from Mike's other PBP, the Cthulhu campaign, was gaming with Mike even before I joined the group. (But Will moved away so he's not here; we'll email him to see if he can join this PBP.)

It's probably best that Paladins don't have perception as a class skill. I'm actually thinking Cavalier, since I've never played one. Paladin, several times now, but Cav is new and thus more exciting. It'd be pretty awesome to play with an Axebeak for a chocobo knight, but that's not really feasible in this particular setting. Se la vie.

Hoenheim Dobberkau *Nacht* |

Exactly, there are differing versions of Lawful Good but as long as you follow your code and play the character well, most things will be fine. You dont see Paladins going around Smiting Merchants all day long for a reason. Just because its evil doesnt mean it need to die. It WHY its evil and WHAT it is doing that justifies it.

Hoenheim Dobberkau *Nacht* |

Im in. Wanna build either a goblin rogue.
Or a hobgoblin ironskin monk=^^=
Heh, that said Hobgoblin Barbarian at first.. I was confused when i looked back here. As for Classes thats up to MJ. As it is not RAW or Paizo published. However the Occult Adventures line is technically available as of right now, you just would have to change when the book finally came out. I myself have pondered a Geokineticist that went Aero and made Lightning rods.

Do know if you wear armor... that you cannot Flurry. You might be better off Taking a Fighter level to get armor profs early.

Seth86 |

I can flurry. Only things i lose would be fast movement and bonus from wisdom. Which get replaced by my archetype. I get bonus feats between.
and i dont want to risk us reach level 20 and im a lvl19 monk. Losing out on cool 20th level monk abilities :P
Nvm :P i see now. Missed that part. Will just change so he has a lower wisdom and higher dex

Tevaga the redeemer |

This looks interesting. I think I'll use a character that I feel like playing, but havent had a chance: a witch-hunter of the Catholic church, with particular dedication to Saint Lucia (saint of light) & Saint Ambrose (saint of redemption). She would be a "convert" from the savage tribes of eastern europe, brought into the church by divine inspiration. She is an ardent proseletiser, believing in trying to redeem those who have taken ill paths. Nonetheless, she does not fear evil and will fight it wherever it lay!
All that's left is adjusting my character sheet (linked in "special abilities" section of the alias, and HERE ) which will be done tonight (the character was made at a lower point buy. The general themes are in the backstory.
As saint George of Lydda before me, I shall go forth and slay the Dragon that threatens our most Holy Church! Such a scion of evil cannot be allowed to live so close to the Holy See!

Rocan |

There are many ideas that come to my mind in this kind of setting and I'm stoked to make a character of my own as well. When do you aim to get the last submissions in MJ?
Also is there any set time period you aim to play in? Is America discovered yet for example?
Ideas as of now: A Danish Skald/Viking
A Moorish knight or Spanish Jinette
An African Witch Doctor
A Scottish Highlander.
It's almost too much to choose from... gonna have to wreck my brain as to what I'd want to play.

JamesF |

I would be interested in playing in this , I would like to propose aRydd , half orc druid , second student of Talisein , the father and teacher of Merlin (have you read any Stephen Lawhead).
He takes druid , with wolf shaman , pack lord , to represent his close affinity to wolfkind.
Think a hulking 1/2 orc druid , with a great ax , in a kilt ?

Hisao of the Yellow Reeds |

If Hisao formerly of the Yellow Reed can be retooled to be 1st level and of either Koga or Iga ninja clans, as per Japanese history, and 25-point buy, sounds awesome!
Thanks Michael. This Alias is unfortunately frozen as it's past the ten character limit. Do you want me to make another alias with Hisao being of the Koga clan? Or can we use 'Yellow Reed' and 'Black Rock' as nicknames in this version of the world. From my reading it seems like the Koga and Iga didn't really have any local rivals which I have in Hisao's backstory. Is that alright?
He's a pretty good skill monkey and flank buddy and has some social skills as well.

Hoenheim Dobberkau wrote:Just note that Iomedae doesn't exist in this world as it is... Like.. the real world, but Im sure you can adjust your character to fit that.I am happy to change the religion to Christianity
There are saints that can fit most good gods. St. George of Lydda (suposed dragonslayer) might be a good fit for iomedae, thought there are probably more warrior-saints that could fit.

Holy guacamole, Batman!
I guess I should've anticipated that there would be a lot of interest in playing in this campaign.... Might have to run two separate groups to accommodate all the great character concepts....
To answer a common query, the specific starting time and place is the city of Paris, circa 1430 AD. The PCs backgrounds should include some reason for the PCs to be in Paris when the game begins....
An easy excuse to gather everyone together would be that the PCs are forming a new "free company" (France had many such companies of mercenaries that hired themselves out to whichever lord would pay their fees). Characters connected to the Church of Rome could be there on behalf of the clergy of Notre Dame, which is suffering from a double infestation of gremlins in the cathedral and undead in the catacombs beneath the city streets....

I am pretty open to player creativity helping reshape the setting....
Of course, the rival clan needn't be another ninja clan--if I recall, certain daimyo tried to wipe out the Iga clan.... A similar situation could easily be imagined for the Koga.... Maybe a vengeful samurai clan hit hard in the past by Koga ninja retaliates.... Or a rivalry between the Koga and Iga could be concocted for the "alternate history" of this version of our Earth....
