Haskyll Stonereaver |

Shaking his head, Haskyll takes his pack (Handy Haversack), and stuffs anything that might be ruined by the water in it.
He then adjusts his nail mail, grabs heartspit, and goes to start preparing for the swim.
Water, why do we have to be swimming
Haskyll prepares a water breathing spell in his open slot, and then starts tapping everyone with it.
Water breathing - 2 hrs / level = 20 hours divided up by members touched. Anga, Haskyll, Leira, Kaos, Ulfgard = 4 hours each

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Of course it ate my post.
Lass, I can and will provide more powerful magics. but keep the air bugbble handy for emergencies.
Haskyll looks over the lake. Ah why does it have to be swimming.
He takes anything that can be destroyed by water, and places it inside his back pack. (Handy Haversack) and then adjusts all his equipment.
He then prepares a water breathing spell in his open slot, and when everyone is ready, taps them all with is.
Water breathing with be good for 4 hours each.

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Thank you for the reminder, I recover the spell through the pearl and recast it.

Droja |

Droja grumbles to herself, but it is more than audible to others. "I'm from the mountains. Orcs don't swim. They drown. I am going to drown."
The Half-Orc Oracle drops her backpack, putting paper items or anything ruined by water into her backpack. She then goes into the water. She mumbles again, "It's cold. I don't like this."
Again, think thick Russian accent.
Though it is laborious, once under water Droja finds that she can breathe and move. She follows the party.
This is calm waters, so everyone can "Take 10" to swim. You may swim at up to half your speed (as a full-round action) or at a quarter of your speed (as a move action). Kaos failed his previous Perception check. But with the rest of the party in the water, others can check as well.

Leira |

Leira readies her shortsword knowing her arrows would be meaningless underwater. The girl steps into the water after Droja "It's wet. I don't like it either"
The Trunauite dives with some difficulty, trying to find what lays underwater.
Perception: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 26
Leira makes a sign pointing something in the underwater structure. When closing up the group itself notices it is some kind of opening.
The girl casts a dancing lights spell she sends through the opening and she follows afterwards inspecting the interior.
Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35
Perception: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (12) + 24 = 36

GM Mazra |

Leira finds an opening into the underwater structure.
As she hides behind fallen stones she sends a Dancing Light into the opening. She sees great blocks hedge in the walls of this room, sealing it from the outside. Lake minnows dart briskly through cracks in the walls. The floor is covered with small indentations filled with silt, detritus, and pebbles. Leira notices a bunch of giant bones lying in the silt.
The "More" portion in the "Cave System and More" map is now partially revealed. What does the party do next?

Leira |

K. nature: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Leira points at the silt depressions and makes signs of caution. The girl then continues diving approaching to the bones and examines them.
If nothing is found she raises her head to see what lays ahead through the open doors.

Haskyll Stonereaver |

Haskyll struggles along, trying to swim with a metal hand, and an oversized spear.
I swim about as well as a rock. . . which is appropriate for one of Torag's makings

Anga Runedaughter |

but tha water be cold...and wet. Anga stammered. Then she steels herself and quickly secures those things that would be damaged by the water. Then she enters. And it is most unpleasant.
Anga swims exactly like a fish doesn't.

Leira |

Leira makes signs to continue and dives in into the next corridor. She tries to check there in advance, not confident about the risks of a sunken ancient ruin.
Perception (+1 vs traps): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (12) + 24 = 36
The girl renews and sends her dancing lights as an advance of the group to light the passage before going deeper.

Anga Runedaughter |

I'll stick ta force spells for now. Fire or ice or lightning probably a bad idea under water

Haskyll Stonereaver |

I am not sure what might be helping, or hindering underwater. I think I will just remain with the assistance from Torag
Haskyll continues to struggle along.
I have to figure out how to get a permanent light for the non sighted among us.

Haskyll grimaces as the large goldfish swims out.
LUNCH!!!!
He then brings forth a quick spell to assist Leira
Liberating Command. The Target may take a Escape Artist Check with a +20 (2 x Caster Level to a max of 20) bonus.

Droja |

Not fully knowing why she is down here, Droja puts up a Shield of Faith upon seeing the big fish, "I am going to die down here. The big fish is already eating Leira." I am not sure if anyone can actually hear her say all this, but this is what she said.
I will wait for Ulfgard's actions before I recap the Round.

Leira |

Escape artist: 1d20 + 18 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 18 + 20 = 43
Feeling Haskyll's divine back Leira ducks and contorts like when she was playing to catch back in Trunau, but this time inside the water and with a shark-like thing on her.
If possible, she will teleport away from the big fish. (move action) if she was free on her turn

GM Mazra |

@Leira - The Big Fish's initiative is before Leira's. The Liberating Command provides Leira with an immediate action in Haskyll's initiative. Leira has a choice, either escape the Big Fish's clutches or attack. If Leira attacks, then the Big Fish get to chomp on the Rogue Arcanist in its initiative, and Leira loses the Liberating Command bonus. I know what I would do. I would give up the attack and escape the Big Fish's clutches and the further damage it could do. But this is Leira's choice and not mine. If you chose to escape, where does she move to?
@Ulfgard - Are you out there?

Leira |

My thought is break the grapple as soon as Leira receives the spell (Liberating Command is an immediate action also for Haskyll so he could potentially use it at whatever moment). Then on Leira's round, stab as a standard and dimensional slide as a move action. If for whatever reason Haskyll only casts after Leira's round, then there is little hope for her to break the grapple and she just delivers the stab hoping it helps the group to kill the fish before it can kill Leira and then uses her immediate action to profit Liberating Command to break the grapple once it is cast, but because her round already would be past she cannot move away. So basically I think there are only 2 cases, Leira receives Liberating Command:
- Before her turn: Leira attacks without being grappled (standard) but cannot use Arcane Strike (her swift is consumed by the immediate action to liberate), then uses dimensional slide (move)
- After her turn: Leira attacks grappled (standard) with Arcane Strike (swift) as she does not know she will receive the Liberating spell later on (she would have made a ready to teleport otherwise)

Suprise round
A fish tries to eat Leira
Round one
initiative order
1 Kaos who moves and throws some MMs at the fish
2 Haskell who I believe moves and cast liberating command
(providing Leira with an immediate action to escape the grapple)
3 The fish which get a full round of actions
4 Leira who could attack and teleport as a move action unless hindered in some way by the fish's action
5 Ulfgard who moves closer
6 Droja who has a grumble bubble party
7 Anga who throw some MMs at the fish.
I wrote this out to better illustrate that Leira can use an immediate action on Haskell's turn then the fish get a full round of actions then Leira can respond to that with her own full round actions

GM Mazra |

OK. Here are the issues I see. Fish already has Leira in its clutches. If Haskyll waits until after the fish to cast, then the fish chomps. If Haskyll cast before, Leira escapes and waits on her initiative to attack and escape. Then the fish gets a full round of attacks on Leira before, which could result in her being grappled again. What am I missing?

Leira |

I see your point now GM. I haven't noticed the fish acts before Leira. Her actions though do not change much, she is probably grappled again or dead by her turn. Let's try to make it easier:
- If Leira is grappled by when her turn arrives: She attacks (I see more probably to kill the fish rather than escaping it).
- If Leira is not grappled by when her turn arrives: She attacks then teleports
- If Leira is dead, unconscious or otherwise helpless: Well she does nothing then, pray for her soul :)
I hope that helps!

Something Terrible |

Round One
Seeing the Big Fish attack Leira, Kaos hits it with a Magic Missile.
Haskyll gives Leira some Liberation in her circumstance. Leira escapes the clutches, but is unable to move too far from the big fish.
The Big Fish attacks Leira again. It strikes the Rogue Arcanist and collects Leira again in its massive jaws.

Droja swims closer bringing up a Shield of Faith.
Anga hits the Big Fish with a Magic Missile.

By the way, this is the better outcome. If Leira had not been freed from the grasp, she would have been swallowed whole on the Big Fish's initiative.

This is our first foray into Underwater combat. Everyone takes a -2 to their attacks unless you have a piercing weapon and make a DC 10 Swim Check, in which case you get your weapon's full effect. Slashing or bludgeoning weapons only do 1/2 damage underwater. Here is a link to the Underwater Combat rules: Underwater Combat Rules
Round Two
Kaos and Haskyll swim toward the fish. Haskyll, still not use to swimming and attacking, missed with his thrust. But Kaos is comfortable in the water and attacks cutting deep enough into the fish for it to go unconscious.
Leira then drives her shortsword into the big fish killing it.
Kaos looks over the big fish and determines that it is a giant freshwater Gar fish. Though you would not want to eat its eggs, the flesh of the Gar is very much edible.
