Round Three

Anga hits Blackie with a Magic Missile.

Kaos cast a Fireball in his Dragon form making it look like a breath weapon. It consumes all four Hill Giants. One falls unconscious. And one dodges away from its full effect.

Ulfgard is toe-to-toe and size-for-size against the larger scythe-wielding Hill Giant. The Dwarf Ranger pounds the Hill Giant with Agrimmosh. It weathers the blow. But then Ulfgard brings down a powerful strike with the Hammer of Unmaking. The blow kills the Hill Giant leader.

This Hill Giant had more HPs than the others. It survives Ulfgard's first blow. It didn't survive the second one.

With a shrug, and seeing Blackie fall, Leira hits the third Hill Giant with a magically infused crossbow bolt.

Droja's Fire Elemental slams into the third Hill Giant. The Hill Giant's clothing catches fire from the Fire Elemental's second slam attack.

Droja herself moves up. She has been praying about receiving greater power to vanquish those that try to rule over her. The former slave holds out her right hand with its open palm pointed toward the first Hill Giant. A ray of Searing Light springs forth from her palm toward the first Hill Giant.

RTA Searing Light: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 115d8 ⇒ (7, 2, 6, 3, 6) = 24

The ray of light, to Droja's amazement, hits the large Hill Giant.

Haskyll moves up in to the middle of the attackers.

The remaining Hill Giants seeing the approach of the Steelhand in its mail of Giant nails, has seen and felt enough, they turn and withdraw from combat. In other words they run away.

Round Four

Map Shift! I haven't done this in a while. What I do is move everybody toward the opposite edge from where the party started at the end of Round Three. In this case toward the left. The Hill Giants will be running away along the road, so the purpose is to stretch out the road. This is not a precise science. The end results is that the fleeing Hill Giants are now on the far right map edge with some party members on the far left map edge.

Round Four

I thought about waiting for Anga to post as she is first in the Round. But considering the actions taken, I will move on.

Anga is heroic.

Kaos charges in flight toward the third Hill Giant. He notices that the first one is in better shape and swoops toward it.

Both Hill Giants are running with their heads on swivel looking back at the pursuing party. when Kaos gets near to the first Hill Giant, it turns and takes a swipe with its greatclub at the Dragon Disciple. It hits Kaos squarely with its club.

Hill Giant 1 AoO: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 332d8 + 10 ⇒ (4, 1) + 10 = 15

Kaos take 15 points of damage.

But Kaos rebounds and drives Gorum's Thorn into the Hill Giant.

Ulfgard follows up behind Kaos. The Dwarf Ranger almost missed his attack with the flying Dragon Disciple in front of him. But Ulfgard was able to get a blow in with Agrimmosh. The pounding was enough to kill the first Hill Giant.

Leira drops her crossbow, then hastily moves up pulling out her shortbow. Her arrow flies true to its destination, sticking deep into the third Hill Giant's back. The Hill Giant staggers and falls.

The Fire Elemental arrives and dance on the fallen Hill Giants. The third Hill Giant dies.

The second one succumbs to its injuries.

They are all dead.

"It was fun to made them run though" the girl smiles as she makes a move of her hand to make the churning fire volcano disappear from sight.

Droja gives a nod to the Fire Elemental. It then departs.

Droja then gives the Dragon Disciple a Cure Critical Wounds.

Then follows it up with a Cure Light.

She looks at Kaos, "You'll survive." She says this in a particularly thick Orcish accent. She turns away from the Dragon Disciple and begins to look around. She goes over to one of the dead Hill Giants.

@Anga - Spontaneous casting: Haskyll burned a Prayer spell for a Cure Serious Wounds. Then recovered the Prayer through a pearl.

Leira will note that all three giants were carry large sacks bulging with an odd variety of collected items. Most contain shards of pottery, rusted iron nails, broken giant-sized tools, and stray bits of metal and other junk. One of the giant’s bags also contains a dozen badly oxidized giant-sized silver coins. You will know they are worth 50 gp each to a collector of giant relics. The other giant’s sack holds an ancient necklace made from leather, steel rings, and dire boar tusks (worth 250 gp).

The Giant leader had two bags. The first contains a large iron bellows with torn leather gills; a set of masterwork ironworking tools; and three clay tablets. Leira will notice that they are actually a scroll of knock, a scroll of passwall, and a scroll of stone shape. The second sack holds his lunch—two dozen bruised apples, a 5-gallon barrel of sour beer, and two smoked horse leg shanks. Yum!

Droja will look over one of the dead Hill Giants. She thinks to herself which one would be the most compliant.

She goes to one that took significant fire damage. After several minutes the Half-Orc Oracle attempts to speak with this dead Hill Giant.

Hill Giant 2 Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Droja nods in the affirmative that she thinks she has a willing one.

"Why were you in this place?" She speaks in Giant without a trace of an accent.

The Hill Giant opens its lifeless eyes and looks at Droja, "We were ordered to go out looking."

"Another dumb one!" The Oracle speaks to herself...mostly.

"OK. What are you looking for?" Droja tries to calm her temper.

"Stuff," the Hill Giant says.

Droja just rolls her eyes.

"What kind of stuff?" Droja says with a bit of her temper coming out.

"Relics. Giant relics." the Hill Giant says.

Droja looks over at Leira, and then the rest of the party. "Any other questions for this pile of dung."

Leira picks up the scrolls and nods reassuring at Kaos questions.

The girl contemplates how Droja works with increasing interest "Well. I guess they are just pawns and do not know much. But we had to try at least"

After the party drinks the giant's beer and eat what is of use for their bellies Leira proposes to continue "Let's try to continue. We can probably cover another section of the Valley before the sunset"

hill giants aren't known for intellectual subtlety, lass. This "mean stone giant" however...


The only things Kaos notes that radiates magic are the clay tablets which are in effect scrolls. However, they are heavy and far more cumbersome than a typical scroll. Yet, the spells they contain are of the type that would not likely be needed in a combat situation.

The party will be able to travel along this river valley another eight miles before the sun's setting begins to darken the valley.

The party is also at a great bend in the river back toward the east.

Does the party camp or move onward into the darkness?

Leira will confirm that the spells are a knock, a passwall, and a stone shape.

Darkness comes upon the party quickly. Leira creates her refuge. The party has a quiet night in this part of the almost canyon-like valley.

Day One Hundred

The party sets out before full light. The canyon narrow as it heads downward and to the east, but soon begins to widen again. After a couple of hours the party sees from its higher elevation yellow pines and spruce trees poking through pale outcroppings of gray stone, spilling down into an open grassy vale below. In the center of the vale is a broad, placid lake, whose bluish green surface ripples and glimmers in the light breeze.

The party sees no structures. However, a herd of reindeer can be seen over a mile away on the opposite side of the lake.

Kaos will smile and follow Leira's lead. He will also use the locket so he can use her stealth bonus. But unfortunately since he can only use his breath weapon one time per day he'll probably feel that just killing them and using an open fire will be just fine for cooking the reindeer.


Leira and Kaos go to the north side of the lake and is able to snag a buck, about ten points. The two will return to the party with supper in tow.

Neither Leira or Kaos will see any structures or evidence of anything that may be related to relighting the forge.

Her swim skill is a +0. At least it is not negative.

Well let's check around the lake for tracks or anything that may tell us if something has been going in and out of the lake.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Kaos is looking for a focus that he can use with his hat of greater disguise that could give him gills. Even though I think that might be above and beyond the alter-self spell.
Also does anyone have spells that could help us move or breathe underwater?
Kaos swim is +11 reg +8 Alter Self. He may have swum a little in the past

Leira can prepare the spell in a full round thanks to quick study, then touch Kaos with the spell, as he seems our best swimmer.

If the party decides to attempt this, Leira will start looking for a hiding place, between some rocks perhaps, to leave her backpack and all the non-water resistant stuff she carries around.

Ulfgard looks quite sceptically at the water and shrugs. "Yea, go ahead. I do not want to enter the water unless I absolutely HAVE to!"


Since this is underwater, you will need to let me know what you are carrying with you as you swim into the water.

When Kaos goes under water he immediately sees deep, dark shadows toward the middle of the lake where the sunken ruins of the ancient temple lie. The lake’s overall depth is about 40 feet, and the uppermost stones of the ruins rest no more than a yard below the rippling waters of the lake above.

Kaos will note that the ruins consist of little more than great blocks of cut stone haphazardly toppled into piles of rubble. Only the unnaturally symmetrical cuts of the tremendous blocks, worn smooth from the passing centuries and covered with a forest of algae, suggest they were once part of ancient structures.

If Kaos swims around the structure Perception DC 20:
You spot a small cave-like opening within the jumbled piles of stone. A way into the ancient ruins.

Kaos will ask Leira to hold anything he doesn't want to get wet then dives in.
Swimming around the structure and even casting DM as he looks around.

"Haskyll, can your god give you magics so we can better survive underwater? I can give us 10 minutes of air to each of us, 20 minutes to some. That's all" the girl starts to place her scrolls, spellbook and similar non-protected consumables inside the hideout she has been preparing during Kaos' exploration.
