Leira
Leira notes how Droja reels back and smiles when she explains about cooking. She is just starting to realize how the party is changing her.
***
Before moving into the caves, Leira casts message and spider climb. She walks in advancing through the ceiling of the cave.
***
At the sight of the boulder slightly missing on Ulfgard, Leira moves forward looking for the menace that made it.
Mazra, feel free to specify Leira's height in the ceiling here
Unable to reach it with most of her spells, the young girl opts out to fire the crossbow "Leave alone my dwarven friend!"

The passage way has variable 15 foot ceilings. The wider opening ahead has variable 20 foot ceilings to a pinnacle near the center at around 25'.
Leira will note that the roof of this wide cavern slopes steeply upward, forming a naturally vaulted ceiling. Two natural stone columns rise from the floor next to a pool of stagnant, brown water. In the northeast corner of the cavern stands a collection of roughly chiseled stones, each about three feet tall and carved with a single rune. Above the stones, dangling from a row of spikes pounded into the wall, hang long strings of dead bats tied together in clumps. Numerous tally marks have been scratched into the wall next to the bats.
Leira will also see that the Cave Giant is not alone. The Rogue Arcanist can see a couple of frilled lizards.
Haskyll Stonereaver
Not seeing the lizards, but moving up, Haskyll drops the lead, and brings up a Sheild of Faith upon himself.

Surprise Round
A Massive Cave Giant throws a rock at the party's Ranger. Ulfgard deftly dodges the rock.
Round One Start
Anga cast a Shield upon herself and moves up.
Droja begins to weave a spell.
Haskyll moves up an brings a Shield of Faith on himself.
Kaos is heroic.
Ulfgard moves up and smiles. He sees more lizards when he can see the whole cave.
@Ulfgard - Do you have access to the map? I have Ulfgard make a double move in the round.
Leira spider climbs along the ceiling. She fires her crossbow at the Cave Giant. The bolt sticks into the creature. It screams.
The Massive Cave Giant continues to scream. It moves up and launches another rock, but this time at the crossbow wielding Rogue Arcanist. But the rock was no where near its target.

Droja
A Giant Bat appears over Ulfgard's head. It flies over the frilled Lizard and moves against Cave Giant.
The Cave Giant reacts to its approach by taking a swing at the incoming flying mammal.
Cave Giant AoO with Greataxe: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 233d6 + 13 ⇒ (5, 3, 2) + 13 = 23
It lands a powerful blow on the over-sized bat. It shimmers and fades away about the same time Droja rounds the corner below.
"That wasn't helpful. Let's see how this works." Droja tries to hold the giant. "That's better."
Cave Giant Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
The Cave Giant is held after Droja's actions in Round Two.

Round 2
Kaos will try to move through Ulfgard and the lizard. Hey successful he will then attack the hell giant.

Seeing things are mostly in hand, Haskyll moves up some more.
Damn these stubby legs.
Only to find that he is just short of being able to strike with heartspit.
At which point he brings forth a blessing upon the party.

Observing the lizards, Leira quickly attempts to identify them.

Followed by a second one towards the lizard facing Ulfgard.

Fire damage+PB: 4d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 5) + 1 = 18
Because Leira is at the ceiling, she probably can avoid cover on the giant, but the upper angle might not be enough for the lizard.

The Cave Giant would not be held until Droja's initiative.
A Dire Bat appears and flies toward the Cave Giant. It reacts to the flying mammal with a swing of its greataxe. It slices into the flying rat and sends it back to where it came.
Seeing this, Droja tries to place a Hold on the Cave Giant. She is successful.
Haskyll advances, but is still too far away to strike at the nearest Lizard.
Kaos attempts to move past the closest Frilled Lizard. He is unable to do so against the big reptile. The fourth Frilled Lizard takes a bite at the tumbling Dragon Disciple, but is unable to penetrate Kaos' magic protections. Kaos comes up short of his destination.
Frilled Lizard 4 AoO bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 202d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 5) + 5 = 11
Ulfgard pounds with Agrimmosh, but misses his back swing. He then delivers a critical strike with his shield crushing the Giant Frilled Lizard's skull. It collapses on the cave floor dead.
Ulfgard's Shield Attack Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 191d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Leira determines that they are indeed Giant Frilled Lizards as large, if not larger, than a horse. She then sends a Scorching Ray at the held Cave Giant. She was about to send the second against the nearest Frilled Lizard, but seeing it fall aims again at the held Cave Giant.
Cave Giant Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
The Cave Giant breaks its hold and lets out a blood curdling scream from both pain and rage.
The first and second Frilled Lizards retreat from the fire.
The third one does the opposite. It overlooks the pain in order to feed its belly. It tries to bite Kaos, but comes up with air only.

Anga is heroic.
Droja gives the Cave Giant a sense of Doom.
Haskyll gives Ulfgard a bit of Aid.
Kaos hacks into the third Frilled Lizard with Gorum's Thorn. It falls down dead.
Ulfgard charges the next Frilled Lizard closest to him. The Dwarf Ranger's blow with Agrimmosh glances off the big lizards moist hide.
Leira, clinging to the ceiling, gets caught up in her bow string. Her arrow falls harmlessly to the ground.
The Cave Giant flies into a rage and steps upon one of its pets to get to the human that just killed it. But the big Cave Giant was too careless in its swing and missed the Dragon Disciple.

Anga hits the Massive Cave Giant with an Empowered Magic Missile.
This Cave Giant survives the strike and continues its enraged attack.
Round Four Start
Anga sends another Magic Missile at the Cave Giant. Amazingly, it still does not fall.
I went ahead with Anga's actions since she is first in the initiative and to let everyone know that the Cave Giant is still up. This Barbarian Cave Giant has 21 HPs remaining.
Just a note: Giantslayer was designed for four PCs. The party has always been more than that. As a result, I will often up the CR by usually adding more fodder, but sometimes I up the monsters by giving them levels. In this case, this Cave Giant has some additional Barbarian levels above its base.

Droja shrugs and goes back to check on the mule.
Kaos, with its enemies dead at his feet, heads toward the first Frilled Lizard.
Ulfgard bashes the second Frilled Lizard, nearly killing it.

Again, this is the descriptions of the cavern.

Ulfgard will check the Barbarian Cave Giant and will not find anything of value on it.
Leira
Leira attempts to decipher the runes.
Linguistics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"Perhaps we have to orient the tripod ring so some way of pointing unveils us something?" Leira casts a light spell on the tripod ring and uses the chisel through it.
GM Mazra
The runes are carved with an archaic form of Giant numerals. A single numeral on each of the stones, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc..
Leira was unable to determine the purpose for the tripod.
Leira also notices additional pit traps to the east side of this cave. They would have been an issue if the party had approached from that direction.
Haskyll Stonereaver
I wonder if those marks are what the giant was using to count the days? A String of bats for the days, and the numbers for the months.
Haskyll muses a bit while he tries to help puzzle things out.
Leira
"Numbers in Giant..." Leira shrugs "Perhaps we better understand what else this might serve once we have finished exploring the area"
The young girl moves northwest to the last section of the passages they have yet not explored.

Haskyll Stonereaver
I think it was a stand for a censor, so I don't think anything else is worth it here. Let us continue on.
Haskyll carefully leads the mule around the traps, and follows along with the party when it heads out.
GM Mazra
Leira, along with the party, will discover that the last explored passage opens into a wide cave with a high ceiling and smooth walls webbed with cracks. A thick crust of cave sediment covers the floor, along with a scattering of broken bones and other refuse. The walls are smooth (aside from the cracks), and are painted with stylized primitive images in faded colors. The most striking of these paintings are four huge pictographic murals depicting enormous stone buildings in a variety of settings. An arch of painted runes frames each mural.
To move things along, I am sure the party will examine this cave. Cave system map update.
The runes accompanying the paintings are recognizable by anyone who speaks Giant as being written in an archaic form of that language.
in the floor. Four of the lines point toward the four murals on the walls and are divided into equal segments by small, regularly spaced carved notches.
I am assuming the party will move into the cave and look over what was found.
