Zinli Steelworker |
Zinli was suspicious:
"Why would anyone be stuck in the underground of a abandoned spire?"
Are there footprints on the floor?
DM Lil" Eschie |
@Dav: not only that, but you forgot about the magic horn too, it seems..
Davlamin finds out that the strange, white thing he saw wasn't a stone, but a skull.
Meanwhile, Rahiv tries to soothe the fears of whoever might be inside the closet. He opens it... and finds himself face to face with a zombie!
First round, only Rahiv and the zombie can act!
Init Zombie: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Rahiv tries to escape, but the zombie is just a little quicker than him, so he can't even defend properly! Flat Footed

Joza Fersig |
I'm here, just waiting my turn lest I be spanked for jumping the gun again :3
Voyla Sloboda |
"Rahiv!"
Voyla full attacks the closest zombie.
Rapier: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 (+2 if flanking)
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Dagger: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 (+2 if flanking)
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Warren Connery |
Warren moves up to the zombie shouting, "Pull him back and see if you can help him, I'll have to take out this thing first before I can heal him." He then attacks it.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Joza Fersig |
Round 1
"NO!" Joza cries, cursing her slow reflexes. As Voyla brings her weapons to bear against the zombie, Joza raises her bow and fires off a shot.
Attack (Longbow; PB Shot, Into Melee): 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 - 4 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Just as Dav was about to tell the others about him finding the skull as well as remembering what he had learned studying the horn, the zombies struck down Rahiv. Using his free hand, he fires off a ray of icy frost at the zombie.
Ray of Frost touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Ray of Frost damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Zinli Steelworker |
"Anyone knows how to keep the red stuff inside of him? Oh yeah, he had a wand!"
The gnome searched Rahiv's backpack, but unfortunately the science of using magic sticks was quite obscure to her.
Shaking it like crazy didn't seem to be the right method.
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Spellcraft to identify magical items: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 Potion #1 we found earlier.
Spellcraft to identify magical items: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 Potion #2 we found earlier.
Trying to figure out what to do, Dav quickly remembers the two potions they had found in the room with the cage trap. Taking them out he tries to identify them as quick as he can before the undine dies.
Can't remember if those two potions were different and required two separate Spellcraft checks or just one. If they do require one, and I didn't make it then, Dav is just going to do a trial and error here and pray to Calistria that it's a healing potion not a potion of poison!
Joza Fersig |
While Dav and Zinli attempt to see to some sort of magical healing for Rahiv, Joza attempts to stop his bleeding the old-fashioned way - with strips of cloth and her bare hands.
Heal (Stabilize; DC 15): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
And thankfully, she manages to get a tourniquet tied that stops the worst of the bleeding.
Not bad for being untrained! And thanks Rahiv :)
Warren Connery |
Warren moves over to the fallen Rahiv. "Good job Joza. Someone said he had a wand. If you know where it is give it to me and I will cure him, as I can use it. If not I have my own healing abilities."
If the wand can't be found quickly, Warren will use his Lay on Hands. I'll use either until he is positive hp.
DM Lil" Eschie |
@Dav: using your highest roll, both potions are the same
Joza stops the bleeding, while Davlamin uses his knowledge to identify as quickly as possible the potions they found earlier. It seems to him thant one is a curative elixir, probably the other one too. But with the stress of seein" Rahiv dying, can he trust his brain?
He pours the liquid in the undine throat, hoping, wishing, praying for the best
Rahiv being at -8
Rahiv comes back to his senses, his fins flapping
Voyla Sloboda |
Voyla hugs Rahiv.
"You got me so worried! Don't feel bad, it was very nice for you to try and find somebody. After all you found me that way."
Rahiv |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Rahiv winces as he is hugged and he looks around for the zombie to see it dissected upon the floor nearby. "I think...when we are done with this Spire, I need to get a life. I swear, I saw mine flash before my eyes...and it was very boring. When we head out of here next time, I think I wish to find a body of water to calm my nerves." he said as he put a weak arm around Voyla to give her a bit of a hug back.
Once given some space, he will get himself back up off the ground slowly "I fear, I may fall for that trick a few more times in my life....hopefully it won't be the end of me." he said as he stretched a bit to make sure everything was still in working order. "Thank you all for the quick save...I think it was quick, not sure how long it was when I passed out."
Voyla Sloboda |
"I bet, in here and with us, your life will get much more exciting. And you didn't miss anything, you were only out for a second."
Warren Connery |
Warren brushes Rahiv off and says, "You should probably leave opening things to me. That was brave of you but I can take a hit better than you can and I don't want to lose any of you here. If you have that wand you may want to heal yourself and anyone else who is injured."
Joza Fersig |
"Warren is right," Joza agrees as she climbs to her feet, absently wiping the undine's blood against her pant leg. "He and Voyla should be the first to inspect doors and then open them as that is part of what they have trained for."
She then smiles, looking relieved. "I'm glad that things didn't get any uglier there than they did. It would be horrible to lose anyone down here."
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Sorry for not posting. Busy week.
Dav nodded.
"You're most welcome Rahiv. I'm glad that was a healing potion and not a vial of poison or worse a potion of fire breath! But don't beat yourself up over this. We adventurers are notorious for our big hearts."
He smiled at that as he then agreed with Joza.
"Oh in all of the excitement I forgot to mention about the horn we found. And I also found a skull in the rumble. The horn has been enchanted with conjuration magic which is magic used to summon things, so the horn probably calls someone or something. But that's all I can tell about the horn at the moment."
Joza Fersig |
"A horn that calls something?" Joza repeats, looking a bit apprehensive. "Should we put it away until there's a better time to figure out what it would call?"
"And a skull...we've seen plenty of bones down here already," she continues. "Is there anything special about this particular one?"
Rahiv |
Rahiv felt around for the wand and began digging in his bag when he finally saw that Zinli had it. He chuckled and patted her on the head "Zinli, you and Dav had good instincts...Joza thanks for the bandages." he said as he gently took the wand from Zinli.
He looked over at Warren "Hmm...perhaps your right, though while I don't find you visage scary. I worry that someone who we might meet under these trying circumstances might find you scary. That was why I opened the door." he said simply.
"But if you wish, I will stay back" he said smiling.
Zinli Steelworker |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"If I had good instincts, I would have figured out how to use that thing!" Zinli regretted.
Spontaneously, she hugged Rahiv:
"Be more careful next time, 'kay? You really frightened me here."
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
"Oh dear. It seems that in the commotion, there was something metallic near where I found the skull," Dav said.
He went back and got the metallic item from where the skull was.
Rahiv |
Rahiv looks down and smiles and hugs her back "Now now, everyone is fine. I'll behave and stay back" he said as he looked at the wand and gave himself a light tap with it for good measure.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 14 charges left
Joza Fersig |
"Sounds like a plan to me!" Joza agrees, peering up at the ceiling where the net had apparently been suspended. "Watch your heads, okay? Where there's one trap there's likely to be more..."
Voyla Sloboda |
"Maybe is better if you let me go first and check for traps..."
She checks the unopened door, with Warren backing her up.
Perception (Trapfinding): 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 4 = 27
If not trapped, she will wait for the others to close in and open it.
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
"Well I did find a key where I found that skull," Dav added as he held up the key for the others to see.
DM Lil" Eschie |
Map updated!
When Voyla opens the door, you see another old and dirty room. The walls and ceiling of this room are hidden behind a thick, gray-white forest of spider webs that blocks all vision beyond ten feet.
Webs are everywhere, creating a maze of vertical sheets.
Gray, furry dust clings to the sticky, white webs. The desiccated, shriveled corpse of a long-dead man hangs spread-eagle across one of these layers of webbing, and rusty swords, daggers, and axes hang securely from others.
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
"Ugh, I hate spiders," Dav said glaring at the webs.
Voyla Sloboda |
Voyla turns and put a finger to her lips, looking at Davlamin.
She takes an oil flask from her backpack and starts preparing it with a rag to turn it into a makeshift bomb.
Joza Fersig |
Unaware of anything potentially being amiss from her position at the rear of the group, Joza fidgets nervously.
First goblins, then the unliving...what next?
Joza Fersig |
Joza gives the tiefling an inquisitive look as he silently motions them forward, but then her eyes also widen as she moves closer and can get a better view into the room. With a quick nod, she readies her bow and waits for the signal...
Davlamin Glimmergaunt |
"Did I mention I hate spiders. Hate as in I loathe spiders," the half-elf says, readying his spells.
Rahiv |
Rahiv moves over to get a clear view and sighs a bit "Mindless vermin...I do so hate putting them down, but they aren't reasonable creatures...Shall we try and pin cushion it?" he says quietly before pulling up his crossbow and lining it up.
Attack with the others if possible before evil spider noms: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage if hit: 1d8 ⇒ 2
If not then just use that when my turn comes up provided no one makes it nigh impossible for me to shoot. Now that I see my roll...well phooey.
