Present! Gonna be busy for a few days starting a new job, but I'll be around and I'll be able to post some.
Congrats, Naralesh!
I'm back in the states and able to resume regular posting, though I will be driving most of the day tomorrow, so any posts will likely be from my phone and thus short.

Grats, Nara. My sympathy Dregan, this waiting part is the worst. We have everyone except Magna checked in, so let's go.
Let's have a review of the official plan. My idea is to begin from the woodline edge where you first observed the fort. Go from there. List your assets - wheelbarrows and Holocaust Cloaks included, please - and who is going to do what. Asha will be with you.

Edric will pitch in monetarily and by carrying heavy things if needed. He's not purchasing anything specifically for this mission.
As the plan stands Edric's job is to be first one over the wall after Kaalib (has he reported in?) lowers a rope and to hold the bridgehead long enough for the others. Then he and Magna are going to introduce the Stag Lord to paired smiting.

Kaalib Coaltongue |

Work has slammed me this week, I've gotta pull 12-14 hour days all week. I may not be able to plan much other than my previous suggestions, but you'll have Kaalib for the fight. He wants to make it up to you guys for rescuing him.

Talia Khavortorov |

We'll circle around through the trees as close to the side of the hill that the zombies were at, and then approach from there, leaving any mounts tied up in the treeline.
The plan as outlined before was:
1. Asha casts hide undead, we all mosey up to the wall under cover of darkness.
2. Kaalib quaffs a potion of Monkey Fish, climbs the wall and then secures and drops off a knotted rope. Maybe Naralesh casts invisbility on Kaalib first - Nara, would you feel comfortable burning a spell for this?
3. Order up the rope: Edric* (blocker in case Kaalib is seen), then Dregan (can provide ranged cover if we're seen, and maybe take out bad guys before they get to us; Nara can provide ranged cover from the ground), then Mags, then Vosil (can put that 15' reach to use), then Nara, then Talia. Asha goes up if OGGM wants her involved.
3a. I saw above someone suggested more than one knotted rope. I think this is a good idea. If Kaalib can carry more than one, he could tie off one a round after he gets up top. So:
- Round 1: Kaalib climbs the rope
- Round 2: Kaalib ties off a rope and drops it.
- Round 3: Edric* climbs the rope, Kaalib ties off another one and drops it.
- Round 4: Dregan and Mags climb the ropes, Kaalib ties of another one and drops it.
- Round 5: Vosil, Naralesh and Talia climb the ropes.
- Round 6: Asha climbs the ropes if OGGM wants her in the combat.
- Any round: If discovered, my suggestion is that whoever can block the bad guys does so, while, Kaalib gets at least three ropes tied off. That would get all the PCs up in three rounds total.
4. Once at the top of the wall, try to take out as many bandits without raising the alarm as possible. Talia has sleep, Dregan/Nara/Edrick with coordinated ranged attacks (3 arrows should be enough to put any down). Perhaps even if they are close enough, bandits can be bull-rushed off the wall.
5. If we are successful at taking out the guard without raising the alarm, try and guess where the Stag Lord is and sneak in and wack him first, then offer others surrender or death, individually if possible.
1-5a. If at some point we're discovered, shock and awe. Ranged fire, summons, grease spells, alchemist's fire, the whole shabang - especially when the Stag Lord makes her/himself known.
Of course, this can be tweaked if anyone wants to change things around.
*Heh, spelled it right this time ;)

Talia's bringing with on the assault:
bandolier (2; -#), sling (-#), bullets (10; 5#), leather armor (15#), whip (2#), scorpion whip (3#), belt pouch w/spell components (0.5#), traveler's outfit (5#), dagger (1#), mw cold iron longsword (4#), buckler (5#).
consumables: 2 alchemist's fire (1# ea.), wand of CLW (-#, 35 charges)
She'll have her horse, 20 rations, and camping gear, but will leave that in the treeline.

Naralesh |

Naralesh unfortunately does not know invisibility. He could order a scroll of it from Oleg's and learn it easily enough, but that takes time.
(It's also the type of spell I'd like to cast from a scroll, since the save DC is irrelevant.)
I wish I could get more details/gear list/preparations done right now, but I don't have the time at the moment. I'll try to get to it soon.

Vosil Comarenza |

Naralesh - iirc we had over a week's prep at Oleg's because Dregan went home to family. Even with your other scribing, that should be enough time?
Vosil is carrying:
Whip
Spare whip
2 Kukris
1 Dagger
1 Alchemical Silver Dagger
(all the above have weapon cords)
2 Blade boots
4 flasks Alchemist's fire
2 Tanglefoot bags
2 Smokesticks
Cold iron sawback dagger in spring-loaded wrist sheath
Chain shirt
Plus other survival/camping gear (left with - tethered - horse at tree line)

Talia Khavortorov |

Sounds great to me. Is there a thrown area of effect weapon like alchemist's fire that doesn't produce fire?
Liquid ice (1d6 cold damage + splash) as well. 25 gp.

If we're going that route, everyone should pitch in, since it is really a group consumable. 21 gp each.

Talia Khavortorov |

Ready! Subtracted 21 gp for an invisibility scroll.

Vosil Comarenza |

I can't edit the spreadsheet from my phone, please will someone deduct 21 gp for me?
And Talia, good call on the reminder to chip in for Naralesh's scrolls as they're a group resource. I tend to overlook that sort of thing, but it's unintentional.

So, working on the maps for the upcoming encounter. Will be done this afternoon. One important thing to note when they come out is that there are 2 views: the ground level and the upper level. The upper level consists of everything on the towers and the rooftops, such as they are. The ground level is, well, the ground level!
You're going to have to pay special attention to where you are and the relations to the other map with regard to line of sight, line of effect, etc.
I need to know what point you are crossing the wall: the gate, opposite the gate, or the right or left wall. From the trees you are looking at the gate wall and the right wall.

Talia Khavortorov |

I think we were looking at whatever the area is where the zombies are at. The idea being that if the guards aren't paying attention to that area, they won't pay attention to the wall there either.

Magna kneels and starts reciting in a clear low voice, preparing for the battle:
"My fire extinct
My forge decayed
By the side of my bench
My old vice is laid
My anvil and hammer
Lie gathering dust
My powerful bellows
Have lost their thrust
Hearts now cased in steel
To a blacksmith’s prayer I will kneel"

Vosil Comarenza |

In case I can't connect when it all goes down, here's my actions.
Right now, Vosil is holding off so the sentry doesn't see anyone actually climbing over the wall - if the spell works, he might assume his 'new friends' arrived earlier, but anyone climbing the wall is likely to raise questions.
If the charm spell works and the sentry is neutralised without the alarm raised, Vosil will wait for the 'all-clear' before going over the wall.
If the alarm goes off, then he'll be over the wall and into the thick of it.
Sorry about the continuing connection problems, my ISP is procrastinating. Please bot as required.

Vosil Comarenza |

Ok, I'm slightly confused by the latest in-game post: weren't there 3 (knotted) ropes? Much lower climb DC, more than 1 person per round - or did we abandon this idea?

Talia Khavortorov |

I assumed that he was in the process of tying off other ropes when he was interrupted by the guard:
Rd 1: Kaalib ties off rope
Rd 2: Kaalib ties off another rope while Edric climbs
Rd 3: Discovered! Kaalib shifts tactics.

That's how I have it now, so let's go with it. Still a tough situation, but now Talia can get over as well as Magna.

Vosil Comarenza |

Makes sense, thanks. Trying to take in everything from my phone screen is heavy going.
The good news is, my ISP is finally sending someone round to fix things - I should be online again tomorrow morning. Yay!

OK, retconned my action.

Who are we waiting on?

Talia Khavortorov |

Please bot me if required over the next couple of days. My wife is entering labour.
Good luck to you, Dregan, and congrats on your growing family!

Congratulations and best wishes!

Oh FFS, not an owlbear
I really, really, really REALLY hate (HATE!!!!!!!!!) owlbears. Not just the creatures as such, but the concept. When thousands of years of real-world mythology have gifted us an incredible bestiary, from dragons, to griffons, hydras, the phoenix, and so on, what an insult for some lazy, good-for-nothing, dumb sonofa**** so-called "game designer" to go 'hey - I know! What about a - a bear; with an owl's beak?!'
To be honest, I'm not even sure that such a travesty would be any more deadly than a normal grizzly bear. I suspect it was invented by a DM who - knowing nothing of nature - thought that simply presenting his players with a bear to fight was boring and therefore felt the need to 'fantasy' it up a bit by making it magical.
I hasten to add that none of this is directed at OGGM, who I'm sure is presenting what the AP gave him; nor - as such - is it directed at the author of the AP, who after all didn't invent the sodding things. I'm just letting off steam.
There. I feel better now. Let's kill this one and then never speak of owlbears again, OK?
