I leave Tuesday after work and will be on a boat to mexico cruising, back on the 23rd then staying in south Florida working remotely for the week of christmas. So from Tuesday to Monday next week I will not be posting then limited posting the following week.

The generic post to share before attempting to recovery post:
So, I got the flu. Not really over it, yet, but past the worst of it.
I went to get tested to verify it was flu, and the care providers went down the "better safe than sorry hole" a might to far, in my opinion.
Standard questions, designed to check for other, deeper concerns/problems, right? "Do you have any tightness in your chest?" "I've been coughing for about three days at this point, yes, I have a tightness in my chest!" So, they stopped everything about verifying the flu in order to check for a heart attack. Thing is, my fever had just started to break, and I was not only DRENCHED in sweat, but I was still actively sweating that hard. They couldn't get a good EKG read because the contact stickers wouldn't. Stick, I mean.
They called an ambulance and transferred me to an ER, to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack. The ER team was focused on EXACTLY one thing, for obvious reasons. First thing they did different? They took that super medical tape and taped the sensors down. EKG told them almost immediately that there was no heart attack going on. I was still in that ER for nearly 15 hours . . ..
IV fluids. Roughly 2.4 liters of fluid pushed into my system. Breathing treatment. Seems when I arrived in the ER, my O2 saturation was around 82. They started to admit me in order to watch my O2 saturation levels, but after I sat in their ER for that long without any further dips, they accepted it might not still be required and discharged me instead of continuing to wait for a room. Having an asthmatic wife means we have a nebulizer at home, and that helped sell the release, too. Still spending more time asleep than awake, for now.
Missed a couple of Santa gigs the family had lined up. Went to a photoshoot with a family yesterday. I was there for about 10 minutes, just needing to sit and smile, but I stumbled into the house when I got home, completely exhausted. I'm supposed to go get caught in a neighbor's house tonight. Very worried about going. Just as worried about denying their kids.

Being a healthcare professional, I totally empathize. My dad had something similar a few years ago, but turned out he WAS having a heart attack that was triggered by pneumonia. He was nearly septic and ended up having CABG x 5. So, as frustrating as all that surely was for you, and it may sound coarse, but you were definitely very lucky!
Here’s to a speedy recovery for you, and Happy Holidays!

Freya Velson |

I'm still around.

Guys, I have been thinking on this for at least a couple months now. Life has gotten too hectic for me, and as such I have decided to thin out my PBP roster a bit to help make hopping on the forums less of a burden. I have decided to focus on thinning out games that have slowed in posting frequency to the point of not being easy to follow and remember accurately what is going on.
As such, I will be dropping out from this game. I hope you all the best in the PBP world here on Paizo, and hope to one day see ya’ll in another game in the future!
Thanks a lot for the good times!

Freya Velson |

Well crap, there goes our Baron...
Take care, Darian. See ya around the boards.

Like husband, like wife. After the accident where I lost this game for a month (and honestly for a while before that) I've been struggling with Isabel's motivation to keep adventuring. So this is a good time for me to step back as well.
Thanks guys, it's been lots of fun while it lasted. Hope the Stolen Lands don't eat you all. :)

GM_DBH |

Ok, I'm sorry to hear that, but I do understand your reasons. I've had to drop out of games myself in the past.
The Baron and his wife will retire from adventuring and run the kingdom as NPC's, unless someone else wishes to rule. Then they can have been called back to Cheliax for their old problems.
We do need another player or two. We have A Druid/witch going to mystic Theurge. A Cleric, a fighter & a Rogue type. If you wish to continue I'll bot Darian & Isabel until the end of this dungeon.

Freya Velson |

I'm still here and willing to continue on if what's left of the group is.
Losing a bard and an arcane caster, I would be in favor of replacing the pair with something of a similar nature. If we don't get another bard, I would say we need another heavy hitter to make up for Darian's offense/offense boosting capabilities.
As far as the pair running the kingdom as NPCs or having them return to Cheliax, I'm of mixed opinions. Running a kingdom and the all that entails is a big part of a traditional Kingmaker game (although Freya herself has very little desire to do much with that - being more of an opposition to expansion voice).
At the same time, the AP can run just fine without all the kingdom building stuff.

GM_DBH |

I hope things settle for you Lisl.
I agree if you want to keep up the Kingdom management having a player as your ruler works best. Anyone want the job? :)
It seems an arcane caster of some form would be the best fit, anyone know someone who would be interested, or should I put in a recruitment post?

Hey.
First, I owe everyone apologies for vanishing without a word. I've come back to try to apologize for doing so, and to let you know that I have no idea when I'll be able to meaningfully return.
That's as far s anyone needs to read. If you're curious, you are free to keep going, though.
Why did I vanish? My wife had started an evaluation of her knees, scheduled to run for about 2 months. First appointment was on a Monday. Late that same Thursday we were told the evaluation was over and they were going to schedule her for a full knee replacement in her worse leg. We found out that next Monday that surgery was that Thursday, a week after we were told she would be having surgery.
I took some sick leave to help her through the surgery and earliest recovery stages. I've been working half days, taking sick leave for the rest, for the past couple of weeks, trying to keep her from doing too much with the live-in grand kids and doing her exercises, with only partial luck.
She's doing her exercises while I type, and the grand kids are down for their naps. Today is going to be the last day I PLAN to do the half-day thing. Thing is, even having been home so much more than normal, I've been going non-stop. We were two weeks past her surgery before I even got into the office where my computer sits, and we're over three weeks past it now and I've had to steal the time to let people know what's going on.
I don't know how long it will be before I can reasonably expect the leisure time to properly contribute to these games again. I am sorry for vanishing, but I have to focus on my wife's actual needs before I play.
Game Specific:
Well, I guess that counts for my vote to continue or not. Makes me doubly sorry, honestly.

Here, but currently ill. Posting will be spotty at best.

Freya Velson |

Well folks, it seems I've landed in the hospital with my current illness and will be out of action a while longer. Sorry, hopefully I'll be back soon.

Freya Velson |

Thank you for the well-wishes. Most appreciated.
I'm home from the hospital. I'm still a bit drained but I should be posting regularly again in the next day or two.

GM_DBH |

I've picked the new players, but the current situation in the Troll caves has dragged on too long. So I'm calling it complete.
I'll give you a run down and the loot, however do we want the three who have left to have died in the battles, or come out alive but needing to leave the kingdom?
What are your thoughts?
Either way this gives you some downtime and lets the new players join the group.

Johanna Atsuko |

Sorry I didn't give input Friday ended up being pretty busy at work before we got on the road. If they died in battle we can build them some statues in remembrance. I joined late so I don't have a strong feeling either way.

Farus Alazar |

Excited to be selected. Thanks everyone!
Regarding backstory tie in, with several recent vacancies (for any reason), what did the remaining fledgling leadership do upon returning? Farus sees this frontier kingdom building as an opportunity to advance his station, so any opening suggested would probably work well for a tie in.
Regarding the other PCs, Farus could have arrived into Kingdom with Li Zhi, both being recent arrivals looking opportunity here. Would Genrimul have served as a caravan guard, with these ‘Fresh Recruits’ to the fledgling settlement?
A question about crafting, it requires downtime and kingdom building rules could complicate this substantially. Would leadership to get a dedicated crafter at our home base be allowed? If no pc takes crafting do you expect we’ll have reasonable access to magical items?

In my opinion, I would say that one of the two rulers should survive the encounter. This sets up a rational for the other to leave the area to focus on raising the child and also sets up a roleplaying reason for a transition of power.

Genrimul the Banished |

Glad to be aboard! Is it alright if we put a small post in Gameplay to dot the campaign thread?

Li Zhi Godjensen |

Hi folks! Thank you for picking Zhi. His avatar doesn't really correspond, but Paizo won't fix this, it seems.
Seems a good idea to me coming together to the settlement, Farus. Meeting on the way makes traveling safer and more fun, and I think introductions will be faster and easier for DBH :)

GM_DBH |

What happened in the Troll lair:
You killed the two Trolls, then fought and killed a Rock troll in the larder, which left the Troll leader to deal with.
He was tough and Darian fell in battle ending his plans to set up a monster kingdom on the bones of your lands.
Isabel, grief stricken by the death of her husband has returned to her family back in Brevoy, passing the rulership onto her comrades.
Pick who gets to be boss!
+1 hide armor,
+1 darkwood thundering morningstar.
2500gp in various valuables.
1,484cp, 3,550sp, and 652 gp.
I suggest the new players introduce themselves to the survivors in the game thread. You show up in Silverhold and look for the leaders, such as they are. :)

Johanna Atsuko |

Yeah, the best way to move forward would be like in other Kingmaker games I have been in is that we rule as a council. The ruler/rulers are just the figureheads that make speeches and relay info to the populace. Sort of like a roman republic that still has an emperor. So a new person becoming the ruler is a bit awkward either way but it will work out. Probably best not to overthink it and just put people in the best-suited roles and move on.

GM_DBH |

You get time over winter to craft if you want to. You are also not out adventuring everyday. The party often returns to Silverhold for a week or two. So personal crafting is easy to do.
There are the Casters tower, Magic shop & Magical academy improvements which produce magic items for you.
