I have Arcana or Religion... take your pick! :)
Knowledge (Arcana or Religion) Check. (1d20+4=12) Not that that roll's gonna tell me anything anyway...
Sadly you are correct :(

Zo |

Zo:There is only an archway to the storage closet to the north.
Then I'll use that mediocre Perception check (12) to see what's inside the closet. I'm not trained in Knowledge (local) to recognize the symbol, but I'll make a straight Intelligence check if that does any good. As far as the disembodied voice, the only Knowledge I have is dungeoneering; I'll throw it in in case it helps.
Knowledge (local) untrained (1d20+2=10) Knowledge (dungeoneering) (1d20+8=24)

DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

Knowledge (local) untrained (1d20+2=10) Knowledge (dungeoneering) (1d20+8=24)
Unfortunately, the (Local) check is not high enough and the (Dungeoneering) check gives you no new information either.
Stepping between the closed boxes and crates, Zo makes her way through the room to the closet-like space to the north. With the Light spell in effect there is adequate light for the time being. The closet seems to be of the walk-in variety, and seems to open up to another room to the north-east of the previous chamber. The closet seems to contain nothing but an old, grey hat box tied with simple string, which sits on the floor in the northwest corner.

With a shrug, Zo leaves the spellcasters to puzzle out the disembodied voice. If all it does is talk at them, it doesn't seem too dangerous; it's not even shouting an alarm.
If it's another open archway to the new room, Zo will use that Perception roll to look around it for anyone waiting to jump at her; if it's a closed door, she'll use it to examine the hat box.

DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

Zo walks through the closet and out the other side, holding the still-glowing coin in her hand. She glances into a room which looks very much like a mirror version of the one just to its south. It is rectangular, 20' from east to west and 15' from north to south. A large fireplace dominates the southern wall, and it looks like it may once have been a fine bedroom. A large, four-post bed stands in the middle of the room, now it tatters and on the verge of falling apart. It still has a mattress with many holes in it, and torn fabric hangs from the posts.
The room has two other exits, one to the east which probably leads to the room just north of the castle entrance, and another one to the west.
Zo also notices many small footprints in the dust that seems to run between the eastern open archway and the western one to her left.

Zo |

Not wanting to move too far from the rest of the party, Zo takes up a position in the storage closet to watch the next room while the others examine the crates.

DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

While Zo explores, Meghdad trys to understand the cause of the random voice.
Father Meghdad thinks hard about what could be causing these voices, and although he guesses that it is some kind of glamer magic, he is not familiar with what spell could be causing (Knowledge check fails).
Cordelia walks over to the cases, crates, and boxes which all seem to be made out of light wood. All have been opened in the past, and after exhaustive checking, all are revealed to be empty. Quite a few still have hay in them, often used as a buffer in the transport of delicate items, while others have a faint rotting spell still lingering about them (Successful Search check made by me).

MythrilDragon RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16 |

"It is some sort of illusionary speach, a spell cast that is now fading. Someone is luring us towards a trap or is trying to misdirect us so they can get the better hand or slip away. Maybe there is an exit through the chimney or a secret door somewhere. Otherwise someone may be behind us. Gregori will you double back and see if we are being followed while the rest of us search the walls in here. Zo can you keep an eye on the other room while you search the closet?" Meghdad then goes to the wall with the fireplace and begins to search for an exit, secret or otherwise.

Rhade |

"Ignacious aren't gnomes supposed to be good at illusion?" Rhade whispers to the mage as he keeps watch at the entrance to this room making sure nothing is neaking up on them from either the other room on the right or the passage that lead straight ahead rather tan the chamber Zo entered.
Perception/Hearing: Roll 1d20+9: 6+9 for Total of 15, this is in case someone is actually trying to sneak up on them since Rhade did notice the hole in the ceiling which might mean whoever was speaking if they had cast a spell might be up there
"Lady Crichton if those boxes are so foul bestow upon them a dose of your heavenly fire in case they are something to truly worry about," Rhade mutters over his shoulder as he keeps watch on whats going on outside of the room.

DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

Father Meghdad: I am assuming that the fireplace you are referring to is the one in the room you were in before, not the one that Zo is looking into now.
Father Meghdad goes to search the fireplace in the room the group was just occupying. It looks as if the fireplace has not been used for a long time, although various items of trash have been thrown in here haphazardly. He does not find any kind of exit or secret opening, but does find three old silver tea spoons and a small bag of dried peas.
As he sits to more closely examine his finds he hears a scratching noise from above. Looking up he sees a very large bat squeeze its way from the ruined upper floor through the opening in the ceiling. It plops down clumsily next to him and lets out a terrifying screech before lunging at him, its yellowish teeth bared. The Father quickly backs up and avoids the worst of the bite, but the animal is still able to graze his shoulder, its breath reeking of foulness. (Dire Bat attack 1d20+8=15, hit! Damage 1d8+4=8 hp)
To help speed things up I will roll Initiative for everyone.
Dire Bat: 1d20+6=20

Ignacious: (1d20+3=16)
Gregori: (1d20=10)
Cordelia: (1d20+2=4)

Father Meghdad |

"SWEET SARENRAE!" Father Meghdad curses as he swings his scimitar at the attacking bat with as much strength as he can muster. Caught by surprise the attack seems futile and he steps back five feet trying to give himself more room to face off against the creature.
Power Attack Hit roll (1d20+4=8); Power Attack Damage roll (1d8+5=13)

Zo |

From her position in the closet, Zo hears the screech of the bat and the shout of the cleric but can't see anything. Gripping her scimitar, she runs around the corner into the storage room so she can see what's going on to -Y1.

That's actually only 15' of movement, and this is not a surprise round. Would you like to do something else?

Sorry; PbP confusion. Zo wields a rapier, not a scimitar. :P
Honestly, at this point, having taken in the scene, she's basically Delaying to see if she's going to need to do something or if the more melee-friendly members of the party can take care of this without her. Without Precise Shot, she's most likely wasting bolts, and it seems unlikely she can get off a clean shot with all the people and furniture and walls in the way anyway. I don't believe, though, that the rules support using part of your action and then Delaying the rest of it?

Ignacious Throckmorton III |

Iggie's not on the map, but he came into the keep, so I'll assume he can see the beastie, and is probably hanging back near the entrance, not being the sort who enjoys being leapt upon by monsters.
Ignacious cries out when the Bat appears, "Great Glittering Vaults of Abadar!" He then points his finger and cries out "Corrosum!"
Acid Dart (touch): 1d20+1=2, 1d6+1=3
Oh Invisible Castle, why hast thou forsaken me?

Rhade |

Rhade turns as he hears the bats cry and seeing it strike Father Meghdad he responds immediately!
Thrown silver dagger: Roll 1d20+6: 15+6 for a total of 21 thanks to Point Blank Shot and Precise Strike if that was enough to hit it does Roll 1d4+1:4+1 for Total of 5 damage (+1 to attack and damage when within 30' of the foe)
"I said the fireplace was the obvious place for an ambush, admittedly I expected a spider so why oh why didn't you listen?!" Rhade looking chagrined as he closes in with his shortsword.
Assume that should be fine

DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

Sorry about overlooking Ignacious. I would make "small" jokes but they would seem like a cheap shot. Also, Rhade, you did not specifically state in a previous post that you had dagger drawn, so I added a move action for drawing it. This means that you can't close with the creature this round.
Rhade turns as he hears the bat's cry and seeing it strike Father Meghdad he responds immediately! Drawing a silver dagger, the ranger hurls it at the flying monstrosity. It buries itself in the creature's side, and aside from a small chirp, the bat hardly seems to notice. Rhade then remarks, "I said the fireplace was the obvious place for an ambush, admittedly I expected a spider so why oh why didn't you listen?!" (5-step to avoid cover; draw weapon move action; Thrown silver dagger: Roll 15+6+1(PBS)=22, hit! Damage Roll 4+1(PBS)+2(Str)=7 damage)
"SWEET SARENRAE!" Father Meghdad curses as he swings his scimitar at the attacking bat with as much strength as he can muster. Gregori charges forward to stand in front of Father Meghdad, his sword tracing a vicious over head arc. The paladin connects soundly with the giant bat, but his longsword looks minuscule beside the creature's large form. (Move action; Longsword attack 1d20+7=25, hit! Damage 1d8+2=5)
Will wait until 6PM CT for Cordelia's post.

DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

Cordelia hangs back, guessing that her bolts of heavenly fire will have little effect on an animal, even an animal as large as the bat. She holds her scimitar at the ready, in case she can get a swing at it. (Ready attack action)
ROUND 2
The bat seems intent in protecting its lair and strikes out at the nearest intruder, in this case Gregori. The paladin deflects the attack using his shield with practiced ease. (Bite attack hits AC 13, miss)

Ignacious Throckmorton III |

Ignacious attempts to acid-ize the bat once more: 1d20+1=5, 1d6+1=3
Really, Invisible Castle? Did I run over your invisible dog or something?

Zo |

Zo sees the oversized animal undeterred by the paladin's attacks -- and, more critically, the open doorway behind it. In a split second, she decides to take a calculated risk, running through the bedroom with the kobold footprints to find a way back to the entryway and to the creature's unprotected back.
Double move to -Z8, or -AA8 if she has to stop to open the door. Of course, all bets are off if she runs into a trap or a bunch of kobolds.

Gregori Shadowbane |

Gregori sees Zo getting herself into position and keeps the creatures attention with a brutal upwards thrust twisting the blade as it connects.1d20+5=25, 1d8+2=7 Crit confirmation 1d20+5=23, 1d8+2=9 and we'e using the deck right?

Rhade sighs as he realises there's no way he can engage the bat in melee with everyone standing between him and it.
He draws forth his bow and an arrow and prepares to shoot the bat.
Not sure if I can do more than this, Rolling 1d20+6: 12+5+1 for Total of 18 to hit which if it does Rolling 1d8+1: 4+1 for Total of 5 damage
"Sir, I strongly suggest you pull back along with Ignacious and Gregori so we can focus the entire party's attacks on this creature!" Rhade beseeches Father Meghdad.

DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

Rhade, you know you can move through squares occupied by allies with no trouble, right? You can also tell that the bat, despite its Large size, only has a reach of 5'.

"Sir, I strongly suggest you pull back along with Ignacious and Gregori so we can focus the entire party's attacks on this creature," Rhade beseeches Father Meghdad. Despite a well-aimed shot, the arrow does not penetrate the creature's thick hide. (Longbow attack 12+5+1(PBS)-4(Cover)=14, miss)
Summoning the blessings of Sarenrae, Meghdad lauches a bolt of fire at the winged beast as it's attacking Gregori. The fire scores a direct hit on the bat's face, scorching part of it black. (Domain Power:Fire Bolt Ranged Touch Attack 1d20+1-4(Cover)=15, hit! Fire Damage 1d6=4)

In a split second, she decides to take a calculated risk, running through the bedroom with the kobold footprints to find a way back to the entryway and to the creature's unprotected back. She pushes through the tight closet and crosses carefully around the bed in the room beyond it. Nothing jumps out to attack her and no trap is sprung, so she crosses into the room to its east which seems completely empty. Ducking through an open door in its south wall, she crosses back into the entryway, almost making it to melee range with the giant bat. (Double move)
Ignacious attempts to acid-ize the bat once more, but fate seems to have a different idea once again and the attack misses. (Ranged touch attack 1d20+1-4(Cover)=1, miss)
Gregori sees Zo getting herself into position and keeps the creature's attention with a brutal upwards thrust twisting the blade as it connects. Sorry guys, work has been kickin' my arse this week ('specially the last couple of days). Just DMPC me if you don't hear from me before the end of the round, I don't mind.

Father Meghdad |

Assuiming there is another round, I don't know if I can post later so here is my next action.
Hearing Rhade's strategic request the priest moves back out of the way and blasts the bat with another bolt of fire and shouts, "Have at it Rhade!"
Move Action: Move back up to 15' to make room for other melee attackers but still keeping ranged sight. Attack Action: Domain Power-Fire Bolt Range Touch Attack (1d20+1=16); Fire Damage (1d6=6)

Round 5
Dire Bat: 20
Seeing an opportunity to close in, Rhade drops his longbow and passes Father Meghdad. Drawing his twin blades, he slices at the creature with little effect. (Drop longbow; Move action while drawing longsword and shortsword; longsword attack 13+4=17, miss, shortsword attack 4+3=7, miss)
Hearing Rhade's strategic request the priest moves back out of the way and blasts the bat with another bolt of fire and shouts, "Have at it Rhade!" The firey bolt goes astray, however, impacting in the wall behind the bat, while spraying bits of mortar around the room. (Move Action: Move back up to make room for other melee attackers but still keeping ranged sight; Attack Action: Domain Power-Fire Bolt Range Touch Attack (1d20+1-4=12, miss)
Zo steps forward and stabs at the bat with her rapier and somehow manages to completely miss the huge thing! (Attack (flanking) 1d20+8=10, miss)
"By Abadar's Guarding Hand, take THIS!" cries Ignacious, sending a blob or corrosion toward the creature. Somehow the halfling magus seems to be stuck in an trans-dimensional anti-luck zone, and the attack fails to find its target. (Touch Ranged Attack for acid darts: 1d20+1=11, miss)
Gregori uses Zo's disraction to bring his blade in a rising vertical strike that plunges into the creature. Even though he does not cause the damage he did on his previous attempt, the paladin's sword strikes true, causing the bat to cry out in pain.(Longsword attack 1d20+9=26, hit! Damage 1d8+2=9)
Having made it all the way around to the far side of the bat, Cordelia pauses a moment to decide what to do next, not wishing to enter melee with such a formidable opponent. In the end she decides to hold her position and prepare for the worst. (5' step, ready action to attack bat with scimitar if it comes into range.)
Not being the smartest, the dire bat attempts to bite the heavily armored warrior before her. Her attack goes wildly astray, and the animal hits its head with a deafening crack on the ceiling. When it recovers it seems completely confused and does not seem to recognize in which direction its enemies are. (Bite attack 1, automatic miss! Fumble confirmation hits AC 17, fumble! Result: Winds of Change, Bat will threaten no squares for 5 rounds)

Rhade, you will want to change your post. I used the "I will NPC if do not reply to combat thread within 24 hours rule" and NPC'd you in the last round. You are holding both your longsword and your shortsword and are within melee range of the bat. You dropped your bow in the room with the boxes.

Sorry been a little out of sorts of late, so that makes it 14+4 for 18 to hit with the longsword and 14+3 for 17 to hit with the shortsword, the longsword does 8+2 for 10 damage and the shortsword does 3+1 for 4pts of damage if they hit.

Round 5 Cont.
Gregori times his attack to strike as the creature reels from Zo's vicious thrust. He once again finds his mark, slicing deep into the bat's flesh. It is close to death.(1d20+9=27, hit! Damage 1d8+2=5)
Cordelia, not wanting to waste her precious magic on a nearly defeated foe, hangs back out of range of its fangs. (5' step; ready scimitar attack in case it closes with her)
Round 6
Near death, the giant bat decides that it can always find a lair somewhere else. It tries to climb back through the small hole in the ceiling (well, small for a creature its size), but doing so gives both Gregori and Zo a chance to strike its exposed back. Neither is able to penetrate the creature's thick hide, their weapons simply bouncing off the retreating creature's form. It manages to climb through the hole and you can hear it as it fights its way through the ruined upper story. Eventually the sound of loud flapping can be heard as it takes to the air above Castle Mistamere. (Bat attempts to move and provokes AoO from Zo and Gregori; Zo rapier attack 10+8=18, miss; Gregori longsword attack 7+9=16, miss; move succeeds, bat crawls into demolished upper floor and has Total Cover, including no Line of Effect)

"Oi my dagger!" Rhade blusters.
Zo looks up through the hole in the ceiling, then over at Rhade with a shrug. "Next time, don't throw it at something with wings."
Reasoning that if anything were lurking nearby it would have heard the ruckus and attacked when they were busy with the bat, she lets down her guard a bit and goes to check out the hat box in the closet.

Cordelia Crichton |

Cordelia accompanies Zo intot he room to check out the box.
She slides her scimitar into it's sheathe and waves her hand over the box. Casts Detect Magic Stepping back, she lets Zo do the honours and stands at guard, preparing to cast a spell just in case.
