DM BrOp - Kill Bargle! |

Meghad inspects the bite wound, cleaing and bandaging it and looking for any signs of unatural effects while he waits upon the others.
The wound seems to be fairly clean, although your attentions will help it to not become infected. If you expend 5 uses of your healer's kit, you can recover 3hp.

Zo unties the string on the hatbox and carefully lifts off the lid.
Zo carefully unties the string on the box and lifts the lid off. The hatbox contains a musty red woman's hat in pretty poor condition. A hatpin sticks out of it which looks like it could be of some value.
As she is examining the contents of the box, Zo suddenly starts to feel very woozy. Then intense pain courses through her body and she begins to feel very weak. (Zo makes a Fort save 11+1=12, failure! Zo takes 6 hp of damage; Zo will take 1 point of Con damage every round (starting next round) until she makes a successful save or the poison is otherwise dealt with. To recap my houserule: Generally ability damage from poison is 1 point per round until a successful save is made, the poison is otherwise neutralized, or the maximum amount of damage is caused. HP damage is dealt all at once in the first round. Secondary and primary ability damage are combined into one, so that a poison which does 1d6 Con/1d6 Con, will do 1 pt of Con damage per round up to a maximum of 12.)

"Wait!" Ignacious steps forward, draws ZO back and says, "Allow me. It may be safer to be farther back!"
Casts mage hand and uses it to open the box.
As I had already started my response post, I am ruling that you called out too late, and she had already opened the box.

Zo |

"Wait!" Ignacious steps forward and says, "Allow me. It may be safer to be farther back!"
As dizziness and pain sweep over her, Zo focuses her eyes on the halfling with difficulty and remarks, "Good advice, Iggie, if a little too slow." Weakly, she raises an arm and motions the magic-users back. "There's some contagion to this thing. Step back in the other room so it doesn't get you as well." Figuring she's already been compromised, Zo decides to investigate the hatbox and its contents further to see if she can determine the source of the poison. Did she prick her finger on the hatpin? Was it a contact poison on the box? Or was some foul miasma imprisoned within to be released when she removed the lid?

Upon looking more closely, Zo notices that the string the hatbox was tied with seems to have a thick coating of some kind on it. She guesses that's what did it, some kind of contact poison.
I am giving everyone one post to help, and then Zo will have to make another Fort save or start taking Ability Damage.

Rhade |

Would Knowledge/Nature or Heal be a better choice of identifying what poison was used?If Knowledge/Nature then rolled an 8+8 for total of 16 to identify the poison but would he get a +2 bonus if it was kobold related as in something they'd use?
Rhade keeping out of the way of Gregori as he ushers Zo to Father Meghdad makes a point of looking at the closet and the object they think was poisoned But not touching it for obvious reasons

If you look at pg. 65 of the PFRPG Beta rules you can see that you can make a Heal check to help treat poison.

Father Meghdad |

"Quickly, bring her and lay her gently over here." The priest kneels and begins to inspect her pouring water from his flasks over her hands to rid them of any of the toxin. He musters all his skill and knowledge of posions and thier effects to treat Zo. "Refragatio",he says as he places his hands upon her shoulder. "Sarenrae will aid you in this fight."
Heal Check (1d20+10=20) to Treat Poison per the beta rules (I get to roll a heal check each time she needs to save and she gets to take which ever result is higher), then cast resistance to give her a +1 on her saves for the next minute.

Heal Check (1d20+10=20) to Treat Poison per the beta rules (I get to roll a heal check each time she needs to save and she gets to take which ever result is higher), then cast resistance to give her a +1 on her saves for the next minute.
Kneeling next to the stricken rogue, Father Meghdad quickly goes to work trying to draw out the poison. A few moments later Zo feels the pain coursing through her start to fade.
Father Meghdad's Heal check is enough to make Zo's Fort save. Zo will take no ability damage.

Zo |

Zo draws a deep breath and shakes her head as the dizziness begins to recede. "Thank you, Father," she murmurs. "And you, Gregori." She calls out to the half-elf in the closet. "I think it was the string, Rhade. Don't touch it!" Sitting up, she nods to the halfling. "There was some sort of little jewelled bauble in there, Iggie, if you're interested."

Ignacious Throckmorton III |

"Ah! And this time, magic, not poison!" Iggie will use mage hand to tip the box over then remove anything inside it from a safe distance of 15 feet away.

Cordelia Crichton |

Cordelia watches as Father Meghdad tends to Zo's condition, then goes over to inspect the contents of the box with Rhade and Ignacious.
"Well there was nothing magical about the box but maybe what's inside is a different matter." She gestures at the hat.
Cast Detect Magic on the Hat & Pin.

Cordelia Crichton |

Now knowing that neither are magical, Cordelia picks up the pin after getting the all clear from Rhade. She turns it over in her hand and admires the craftsmanship.

Cordelia:

Cordelia Crichton |

"So is it silver?" Rhade asks.
Cordelia finishes examining the hatpin. "No platinum. Fine craftsmanship though. Probably worth about 150 gold."
"So do we continue to search the rest of this section or move on?" he asks.
"I think that's probably it for this part. Maybe we should move on after Zo is feeling up to it."

Rhade |

"Curious, you better wipe that with something before putting it away then,"Rhade replies before glancing over at Ignacious curious at his reaction to the find.

Rhade nods as he heads to the fireplace to glance up the chimney carefully glaring upwards as he takes a quick gander up there in case there's anything else about to drop in.

Father Meghdad |

"Curious I had thought it might have been a kobold trap but they wouldn't have left that bauble behind... Father any idea what poison was used?" Rhade asks as he watched Ignacious look over the remains of the hat box and its contents.

"That's hard to say Rhade, your knowledge of natures ingrediants may be better at determining that. Let's see, it's a sticky contact posion that acts fast. Maybe it's...
Craft-alchemy (1d20+3=11) It's the best I got

Zo |

"No need to wait on me," Zo remarks, getting to her feet and going to collect her lantern from the hallway. "The room Cordelia and I cut through shows heavy traffic from kobolds; it looks like they go through it to get in and out from wherever their lair is. Should we follow their trail or examine the room on the other side of the entryway first?"

Rhade looks around the fireplace once again but can't find anything new.
OOC: Just a quick note to mention that Father Meghdad did originally find a bag full of dried peas and some silver tea spoons when he first explored the fireplace ... and disturbed the bat.

Father Meghdad is not able to determine what kind of poison was used on the thread, but then again, it's not really his forte.
OOC: Would require ranks in the Craft (Poisonmaking) skill.

Cordelia Crichton |

"Should we follow their trail or examine the room on the other side of the entryway first?"
"I vote we explore the other side first. I don't want anything creeping up on me from behind."
Cordelia takes the spoons off Father Meghhad and gives them a once over. Hmmm... silver. Rhade these may interest you, although trying to spoon a werewolf to death is not something I want to stick around and watch you attempt." She gives him a cheeky grin.Appraise Check. (1d20+6=16)

The three spoons are old and have seen a fair amount of use. They'd probably fetch about 1 gp a piece.

"Well,Rhade muses,"I could always stuff it down its throat but somehow I can't see them willingly taking a tonic or the spoon for that matter..." he smiles back looking a little less sad.
"Lets move, the sooner we do the sooner we can find out what Bargle is doing here," he nods.

Having decided to retrace their steps and investigate the eastern half of Castle Mistamere before following the kobolds' trail, the group makes its way back through the bat's lair to the entrance hall. Briefly glancing into the room to its east reveals a room identical to the one across the hallway. The room is roughly square, 15 feet to a side with a large fireplace in the north wall. Unlike its western counterpart, this room has some basic furniture. Four rickety wooden chairs sit in this room around a small table. Beyond the room to the east is an open archway leading to the south-easternmost room of the castle. Like its counterpart to the west, this one also seems to be filled with crates and boxes, most of which seem to have been already opened.
OOC: Just to make things clear, I am describing two separate rooms which you can see from your current position in the entryway. The closest is the room with the chairs and tables, the farther is the storage room. For completeness' sake, I should also mention that the entry hall has a door to the north, which leads to a hallway. Zo passed through this room when she flanked the bat, but due to the fact that she was moving pretty fast and focused on helping the rest of the party, she did not notice much, other than the fact that it was empty and seemed to have exits in the four cardinal directions. I apologize if all this descriptive text is confusing. I should probably draw a map or something.

Zo |

Zo shines the light from her lantern through the mirror image of the rooms they were just in. "What do you suppose the odds are of those boxes talking to us?" she asks. "If they do, this time say Bargle is with us. Father, no looking up the chimney, and I won't untie anything."

Zo glances casually about the room, noticing that there seems to be and old pillow under one of the rickety chairs in the first room. A more detailed search of the room might reveal more, but then, there's always the chance that it won't.
OOC: As I've noted before, to actually "search" the room you would have to search each of the 9 five foot squares of the room. You could take 10 doing this, so each would only take one move action.

Zo |

Taking 10 only gives me a 16, but it's better than the 12 I rolled, so I guess I might as well.
Zo moves in to give the room a quick once-over, paying special attention to the pillow under the chair, on the off chance it turns out to be some kind of deadly fungus or fluffy mimic or something.

Zo |

"Could be something hidden back here," she remarks, moving in to examine the brick more closely.

Father Meghdad |

"That's hard to say Rhade, your knowledge of natures ingrediants may be better at determining that. Let's see, it's a sticky contact poison that acts fast. Maybe it's...
....some sort of poison. Alas, I have no idea as the making and use of poisons is out of my area of knowledge." Meghdad gathers his belongings and continues the search of the castle by following the others into the identical room across the way.
Take 10 Perception to search = 13

Rhade |

"Present for you, Rhade!" Zo calls, nodding at the ornate silver dagger wrapped in oilcloth she found in the hole left by the brick.
Rhade's eyes light up as he gazes at the ornate silver dagger.
"If you don't mind?" he asks the others before picking it up."If I find my original dagger this goes back into party treasure if thats okay with all of you?" he then adds as he gingerly picks up the dagger.
And yes this is probably a bad idea but he genuinely likes silver daggers but he will have pocketed the silver spoons if only so Ignacious doesn't have to add them to his pile of coins
