This is the test for a longer term arena campaign, with combatants beginning at level 1 and advancing through combat. Some rules and specifics are still being worked out, so it's not ready for full campaign status yet.
Just wondering how many people have characters for the arena, so I'm willing to tally it here in the thread. Who has submitted a level 3 character with the template? If you post here with your character's name ill keep a running tally (take some of the load off Jehova).
Regarding Gin and Elmer's fight, and the Bite attack, spoilered because this is kind of long:
There is an FAQ ruling on that, although it actually still leaves me somewhat confused. I always thought that natural attacks from a synthesist's normal form actually were indeed inaccessible, thanks to this part.
FAQ wrote:
Summoner: Can a synthesist (page 80) make attacks from his own body (such as manufactured weapons, unarmed strikes, or natural attacks) and attacks from the fused eidolon in the same round?
...
Remember also that the summoner is wearing the eidolon like a biological, all-encompassing "suit," and the eidolon's shape limits what the summoner can do. If the eidolon doesn't have arms, the summoner can't use his own arms to manipulate objects, make attacks, cast somatic spells, or anything else requiring arms--while fused, the summoner's limbs are trapped within the armless eidolon-suit, and he isn't able to use them to manipulate things. The summoner isn't able to extend his own body parts outside of the eidolon-suit; if he wants to be able to manipulate things with arms, the eidolon needs arms (though tentacles are sufficient for simple tasks).
However, reading through more carefully does seem to imply that it actually would work. The first paragraph actually says this:
Quote:
Yes, but the fused character's natural attacks are still subject to the Maximum Attacks entry in the table for an eidolon of his level. For example, a 1st-level synthesist is limited to 3 natural attacks per round, whether those natural attacks are from the eidolon, the synthesist, or a combination of the two.
It's a bit odd that you basically can't reach your arms out of the eidolon, and would be limited to its arms... yet if your arms had claws, you could still hit enemies with them, provided your eidolon had arms to help deliver your own arms to the target! Or something. Seems a little strange to me, but yep, there ya go.
Submissions are fine, since the character creation is all done and ready. I'd still appreciate if you'd post in the new recruitment thread once it goes up. I'm still finishing the other rule things (I've had stuff to do, I remain sorry that it's not fully up yet), but character submissions are welcome. I want to stress the importance of sticking strictly to the template for ease of character review. Mbauers, yours was awesome, thanks for taking the time to do that out proper.
@Darkwolf, yes, the synthesis's natural attacks ruling is weird, but since it clearly states that a) the summoner's body parts can't extend past the synthesis and b) a fused character can use their own natural attacks (subject to a maximum nat attack limit), I'm assuming this to mean the eidolon sort of grows attacks to fit the synthesist's, the same way it takes on his mental ability scores and buffs. This means that the eidolon can't be using the body part for something else, however (so no using your own natural claw attacks while your eidolon is wielding swords).
If you want to change a build, just submit a second one and I'll save the most recent one sent.
The specific reason I want that format is for the full breakdowns of the nitty-gritty stuff. I don't expect you to forget which items or spells you have, but all of those little +1s from various places can get messy fairly quickly if they're lumped into a single number, so having each bonus fully laid out is helpful for me. It's also harder to leave anything out when creating the character if the breakdowns are there for you to fill in.
If there is information that is not in the template that you want to send (such as description or backstory stuff) please mark it in a Notes section after everything else, so that it doesn't mess with the formatting. If there's something you feel should be in the statblock that I didn't leave room for, let me know.
Also its taking quite a while for the full arena to come online anyone interested in test fights, give people a chance to work out any kinks they might have
HRM, Well then I would gladly you take you on my dear, though it would be a shame to spill you blood, I will be respectful enough to hold back nothing.
