Well this is where we talk shop and do planning out of character.
Check in here with your finished characters in profile please.
I'll give folks a day or two to sort there concepts and builds out then I'll kick off the story thread.
Im excited to be back in the saddle. I've never played with any of you before that I remember at least. As the game progresses, let me know how I'm doing and feel free to offer advice on how to make things smoother.
As a DM I am permissive of actions, but I will implement world based consequences that you may not expect but will make sense to both the game world and campaign story.
I'd rather no one tried to "break the game", so to speak.
Let's have some fun with this and see how far we get.
Cheers

Okay, so I have a question that needs GM clarification. Part of the Iron Priest archetype changes Channel Energy in this way:
When an iron priest channels energy to heal or harm living creatures, she heals or harms constructs with the clockwork or robot subtypes as well. Constructs without those subtypes are also affected, but gain only half the normal amount of healing or take only half the normal amount of damage.
The wording is a little vague, so I leave it up to GM fiat to decide.
Are said constructs affected by the channel energy considered 'living' or 'undead' for the effects of the ability? Essentially, I want to know whether you feel that if my cleric used her channel energy feature to heal her companions, would that same energy heal constructs or damage them as if they were undead.
Depending on your answer, I may change her feat to something else.

Narrator Prime |

My reading is the constructs work as either living or undead. So if you channel to heal, they get healed. If you channel to harm, they get harmed.
That would certainly mean you don't need selective channel for healing the party if you were worried it would hurt androids.
But if you channel to hurt creatures, selective channel would be useful so as not to damage android companions.
Now here's something to consider, and I'll need to look it up. Are Androids robot or clockwork subtypes? If not, then your channel is only half as effective on them anyway. That could be messy so we may have to implement a house rule if it gets too imbalanced there. We'll see when I look into it some more.
Cheers

Alyna Dolette |

Androids are humanoid (android). I have to read up on the android in both the Ecology (Fires of Creation) and the race info from People of the Stars to see how they are effected more specifically.
Since she's NG, her channel energy will heal living creatures. If you deem it to also treat robot and clockwork constructs as 'living' targets, I will most likely keep Selective Channel anyways so I don't accidentally heal hostile constructs (well, at least ONE of them in range, since that's all my CHA gets me, heh).
I should be able to check out the player's handbook and People of the Stars in the next few hours, so then I'll be able to put down her traits.

Alyna Dolette |

Put in her traits and craft (mechanical), plus added to her background.
She should be ready to go. Later I will post my future plans for her.

Narrator Prime |

Hehe, it's an interesting party, no doubt.
Gruff is fine, just try not to write yourself into a point where you hate each other or it seems unreasonable you'd be hanging out together.
I've seen that happen in some PbPs. It's difficult to come back from without a jarring apology scene or two. The players were all fine with each other, but their characters had written themselves into a corner.
Also, the information provided on androids so far suggests they're going to get a hard time in social situations. I want that feeling of mistrust to come through in the game, but not at the expense of player fun. If I'm getting too heavy handed at times, please let me know.
Cheers

Bitha Sark |

Oh yeah, I'll never let a personality get so out of hand that they can't cooperate with another PC. Even a stinking dirty Android! That bucket of bolts won't ruin my good fun.
I have posted with the partially prepared profile for Gerald's barbarian.
How much gold do we get again?

Checking in, Norm here is a local. If you're also local (or local-ish) you may know him as the local gunsmith. He's pretty close to Khonnir as well so personal ties will keep me in the thick of things easily! I'm going to eventually grab technologist so I can apply skills to tech (like Slicing electronic locks with Disable Device, etc.)
I'm for the most part complete. :) I'm giving myself a final once-over to make sure but I just wanted to pop in and say hi and introduce Norm to everyone. He's known to carry quite the boomstick when he goes hunting for wild game in the wilderness and craggy hills surrounding town.
He's quite charitable as well - often sharing his bounty after a good hunt with any local orphanages or people he knows could use a little help getting food on the table.
Frequent tavern goers may have also heard the man speaking of going to find his missing friend, he fears Khonnir has been gone too long and his bond with the man is rather strong.
Norm has a respectable Disable Device, Know Local, Perception, and Survival. He's not a Face type of Skill Guy, more akin to a Survivalist and locksmith. I have enough Climb so that I can shimmy up and lower knotted rope to those who cannot. I believe the DC to climb knotted rope is DC 5 so unless we're in combat Norm can keep everyone vertically mobile! Someone else may need to carry the rope around with them til we need it though - Norm is quite close to passing his Light Load and...no. :) I can craft Alchemical Goodies for us as well, so if we need weapon sheen or Alchemist Fire or any other alchemy goods, Norm has it covered. Also, if anyone wants to take up firearms later Norm can help with ammo costs (10% of total for non Alchemical Ammo and 50% of normal cost for Alchemical Ammo.
In combat Norm's close range is 40 ft, expect him to use it to his advantage. He's not really front-line worthy. By level 7 that might change. I am considering dipping Monk 2 from 6-7 to get Dodge and Mobiliy via the monk bonus feats and grabbing the feat that lets me reload and fire while in melee without provoking. I thinbk that covers it really, I apolagise for the wall of text, sometimes I can be long-winded.

This might have got lost in my last post, but how much gold do we start with? I missed that info somewhere. Might have to wait to buy that Greatsword, lol...

Narrator Prime |

150 gold starting wealth.
Norm took the wealthy family trait to boost his gold to 900. That's open to anyone as their second trait too.
Also, the first post in the recruitment thread had all the creation rules if anyone missed those too. Everyone seems on track which is great. When you all have completed profiles, I'll run out the game thread.
Cheers.

I think it was 150gp Bitha. I had to grab Rich Parents in order to pay for my ammunition. Every time I pull the trigger on Lilly 6gp fly's out!

Bitha Sark |

150. Time to go shopping. If things go well, I'll be finished iwith the profile in an hour or two.

![]() |

Indeed Z :D It's a great balancing fulcrum for the class. Can't make those 'touch AC' Attacks if I can't afford to load the gun! Ahhh that gave me a good chuckle hehe.
edited to add; I'm very much looking forward to gaming with you all. I have a 'high' posting frequency of I had to put a label on it.

Alyna Dolette |

I ended up using up almost all 150gp, having only 10gp left. Couldn't think of anything else to purchase, and Alyna is pretty much a wanderer.
She's new to Torch, wanting to investigate what happened to the flame above the town.
I'm figuring her demeanor is similar to Data or 7 of 9 from Star Trek (haven't watched more than a handful of the shows, so she will be interesting to RP)

![]() |

Yeah I can see that working very well. Androffen are very 'early Data' (before the emotion chip....yep, I'm a nerd...). Lack of emotional understanding and all that. I really like the Numeria setting, it's a throwback to one of the very first oldschool D&D modules and is full of rich flavor and places to explore. Looking forward to this. :)

Bitha Sark |

Alrighty then! Bitha is complete. I still have 25 gold, so I will probably buy another flask of acid or something of the sort to be sure I am good and stocked up.

Alyna Dolette |

Ah, I see you removed the original Bloodrager info. I was wondering about that for a bit. Lol.
I can see Alyna taking the Empathy feat at some point to emulate her 'greater understanding of human emotions.'
Oh, and if you haven't noticed... Alyna likes fire.

Zlota Argyr |

Zlota here is rich compared to you all! And while she hails from around Torch, she never really came to wander and explore it, mostly just trying to keep from being disassembled ("Zlota 5 is alive!").
But yeah, she's going to be gruff a bit, mostly because of her lack of understanding. But she'll be a great party buffer, and her eidolon will be there to help but not shine.

![]() |

Welcome to the Rich Parents club ;) I like living in style! Being said, Norm's complete. 15g Remains of my Family Fortune, time to get to work and make some coin.

![]() |

None of the team is particularly charismatic. I personally can't work in any 'Face Skills', my build is pretty tight as is. I assume its an android thing for the others, expect to have to muscle through more encounters than we talk through. Some games just work out that way.

Bitha Sark |

Since we are squeezed tight on skills, I'm dropping Survival, since Norman has it covered. I'll pick up Intimidate to give us a bit of a face skill.

![]() |

I think our summoner's int and cha are backwards'ish, I might have missed something but I'm pretty sure their casting stat is Charisma and 11 Charisma caps you at level 1 spells forever(and makes the spell saving throw modifier a +0, and grants no bonus spells). If those (int and cha) were swapped and maybe drop a skill point into Diplomacy/Bluff we'd have a little face. Again, toooooooooootaly not trying to direct your vision for your character - just pointing out something you may have overlooked. Happens to me all the time!
I might be missing an archtype or something that lets summoners become Int casters, if so disregard my rambling :) We're going to have to play it smart in order to handle the challenges of the AP. It's highly challenging, which is way fun.

Narrator Prime |

Yep, the main casting stat for a summoner is definitely Charisma. Just checked it to be sure.
Unless your planning to cross class into an intelligence based caster, you may want to rearrange your stat array for Zlota.
Well, since everyone is pretty much ready, I'll prepare the game thread and throw it open to you all tonight some time.
Cheers

![]() |

Cheers GM! Looking forward, see you all in Numeria!
Norm happily goes back to cleaning his musket.

![]() |

A few quick changes; I re-read my Campaign trait (Local ties) and it actually grants me Disable Device as a Class Skill with a +1 trait bonus to skill checks with that particular skill. In addition it allows me to use Disable Device on technology as if I have Technologist feat AND once I pick up said feat the trait bonus increases to +3. Really really awesome! So I'm going to replace Vagabond Child with a different trait and possibly sort through my ammo and exchange some of it for a few silver/adamantine/cold iron slugs to be safe. Preparedness is a mantra I try and live by. Cheers all :)

Alyna Dolette |

You should go for the Techslinger archetype if it doesn't conflict with Musket Master. I think it only overlaps with gun training. They can select Technologist as a bonus feat (they don't get it for free, however).

Narrator Prime |

Ive written the introduction part of the game. Take a chance to post in character and get a feel for yourselves and the others.
You have three choices to start off with.
1) you can head off to investigate the site of the flame itself at the peak of the mountain.
2) You can seek to discuss the issue with the remaining members of the town council. They have reputedly offered some sort of incentive for folks to investigate.
3) You can go and investigate Khonnir Baine's house. His daughter is there as is the ruined robot that Khonnir brought up from the caves.
Best not to split the party. Lets go with majority vote.
Cheers

![]() |

Indeed Alyna :) As we progress I've discussed with our kind GM about retraining into techslinger as technological items become a part of the game. Kind of a slow change as Norm let's go of the past and embraces the future. I 'think' (not 100% certain) that we won't have access to the tech goodies right away so as we discover them it will make for a more natural feel for Norm to retrain into it. He's never seen an energy weapon hehe =) I settled on reactionary for that other trait and I'm moving some ammo around. I've made my intro post as well! :)

Alyna Dolette |

I plan on taking the Technologist feat myself at some point. Only seems right that a cleric of the Goddess of Technology would utilize some of the tech found in Numeria.

![]() |

A lot of the party may end up with it. An interesting concept a pal of mine is running through this AP is a breaker barbarian with imp sunder/technophobe combo. 'Embracing' technology with his earthbreaker! :)

![]() |

As far as I can tell our kind GM would prefer us to travel together. So I propose a democratic solution: Where to start.
1: Other town Counsilors, see if they can aid us with clues and perhaps supplies. Khonnir is worth a lot to torch and although Norman's reasons for finding Khon are personal, reward money will be good for the team if that's what they are offering
2:At the summit of the extinguished flame. It's not burning and we need to figure out why - my gut tells me if it could have been relit from the summit the townsfolk would have keened to that already. We still need to check it though, no doubts.
3:Val Baine: She's 16ish if memory serves, she may know more than a 'child' would and Khonnir's latest finds are with her.
4:Strait to the caves where Khonnir and the lost expeditions went.
We're going to have to play soft with each other, the barbarian already wants to smash robots and half of the party are robots. Sooooo, yeah. Just an observation hehe
I vote we go in the following order, we'll tally votes and work a route from there if thats good w/ everyone?
1, 3, 4, 2.
Let's see if we can come to some sort of consensus since we're already talking in circles before we get passed introductions. :)

Alyna Dolette |

1, 3, 2, 4
Alyna merely wants to investigate the summit. She does believe in the greater good, however, so she will put her desires aside. The logical thing to do and her desires (which she cant quite explain yet) conflict with her.

![]() |

1 3 2 4 it is, democracy rocks! :) (of course if we find out pertinent infos from any of our stops we can adjust, goes without saying ;)
Norm will shift his vote a bit and set us up for 1 3 2 4 (making it ze majority!) I figured this would be a quick way to get us started. Good GM sir, I believe we'd like to visit the town's other councilors and then go check on Val. If all goes well there it'll be on to the extinguished flame. After all the clues have been gathered, then we'll head down into the caverns in search of Khonnir. Sound about right everyone?

![]() |

Oh, and Zlota did you see what GM and I were talking about for summoners? With Charisma being your casting stat was 11 what you intended? It caps you at level 1 spells forever and decreases the DC of any offensive spells you may pick up later by lots. We weren't sure if you found an archtype that let you use Int instead of Charisma or only meant to take levels in an Intu based casting class later. Im curious is all - absoltuely cool if that's the way you envision your character. Cheers :)

Derp. I'll adjust real quick, one sec.

![]() |

Cool beans. I'm figured it was a little oversight. I won't lie - an Android Summoner Archtype that used Int and summoned automatons would be crazy cool. I was hoping! haha

Narrator Prime |

So any questions you have for her can be asked all in character, or you can do a bullet point ooc if you want as well. It comes down to how much writing you want to try really.
She's a hard woman, but cares about the town and her missing councilman. No diplomacy or other social skills needed in this part.

Bitha Sark |

Yeah, they haven't revealed themselves to be androids yet, just slightly off humans. I figure that wil come at some point and time where there might be some trust established prior.
