The gunslinger can start with a battered 2000gp value gun, a mwork double barreled amounts to 2050gp.
Maybe we get mwork double barreled pistols to be more reasonable. Although the pepperbox is expensive, I think it is highly priced for its utility--I have yet to see a player buy one. Then I give Alyna the mwork pistol we found. That way she has a loaded single shot mwork and loaded double barrel mwork ready. I would still have my battered double barrel and the gifted mwork double barrel as well as the netgun.
Alyna then has three shots before she needs to reload. Though I think she gets a 'free' gun when she goes gunslinger. But for now, Bob can reload them for her.
Since Alyna is a cleric, she can memorize the level 1 spell abundant ammunition for her and Bob. We may even want a wand. That way we can effectively shoot adamantine bullets for free against nasty constructs.
Bitha Sark |
I'm fine however you want to play it, DM.
Narrator Prime |
ok, how about we go for this -
The purchase limit in town is 2400, so we set a soft cap at that. I recomend we go for the masterwork double barrel, Boba. It makes me less nervous in terms of balance. However, you can also get adamantine shot in town so give yourself and Alyna 20 shots of that (each).
In terms of other gear, as long as it isn't magic items, then lets go ahead and make the gift a masterwork item including special material costs up to the purchase price of 2400. That should allow for adamantine weapons perhaps (which will certainly make some encounters much safer). I don't own the equipment books put out by pathfinder, so if its special material listed in those, let me know. As long as its Paizo material and not third party we'reall good.
In terms of roleplay, these items were meant for the technic league, but they are gifted to you instead. It puts the people who did it at high risk, but they are willing to take it for reasons you'll know later. So it is a significant gift of both value and sentiment.
I think that balances ok. You've had a few months of playing this game feeling vulnerable, its nice to get a chance to feel more powerful too.
Boba - as for the pepper box and not getting used. I'd like to see one in use one day, but i really think tech weapons will out class that in this AP. Not sure when you get your first real one (in terms of lazer guns etc), but it is coming. I actually did some reading of the tech guide from the PRD in those few days i didn't post. Read up on battery charges and silver disks and all the other stuff coming up in this ap now. Time i got a better grip on it as DM.
- Silverdisks are actually burnt out batteries (which i didn't realise hehe). Each of those is actually worth ten Gold pieces in towns like Torch.
Suna Razorfang |
It is possible to have Adamantine weapons only if you include the 20# discount in which case yeah you'd be golden (As 20 bullets is 1210 gold by itself)
As for Pepperbox usage thats just dependent on specialization. Some people need the 6 shots others specialize in the double barreled or Single and thus are better of with those, especially with rapid reload and Alchemical charges. Its not like its The Crossbow or anything.
The only thing about Tech is... it uses charges.. every time you ue it.. regardless of a miss or hit so that its main balancing factor, batteries and canisters.

For those of you that haven't noticed, Alyna is struggling with feelings of emotion. Androids do not experience emotions (part of their racial traits, which is why they cannot gain the benefits of morale bonuses). She will eventually get the 'Empathy' feat which is for androids.
You have learned to experience emotion.
Prerequisites: Cha 13, android.
Benefit: You lose the emotionless racial trait. You can
gain morale bonuses, and can be affected by emotion-based
effects and fear effects. You lack the +4 racial bonus on saving
throws against mind-affecting effects.
Alyna Dolette |
I'm trying to RP her sort-of like EDI from Mass Effect. Already she is experiencing traces of emotions, and her logical brain can't explain it.

I like androids getting emotions. The end of Blade Runner is a classic example of complex android thoughts and feelings.
Alyna Dolette |
Blade runner was Meh. I couldn't get into it for some reason. However, watching the spiritual remake (essentially) Automata was very entertaining to me.
Bitha Sark |
So then, roughly 220 gold per person from the split, Boba? And thanks for doing the summary for us. Much appreciated.
Narrator Prime |
Ok, I'm just going t do an abstract system for the gambling hall.
Base chance for the hall to win all your cash is 80%. This includes spending on drinks and use of their tobacco and other smoking substances.
The tokens they gave you are specific tho the hall, so no use taking them with you. You can cash them in at the end of the night though.
You roll a percentile dice and check your score. On a 80 - 85 % you break even. On an 86- 95% you win 50% above what you started with. 96-100% means you've doubled your money.
This is gambling against the house, so odds are against you. If you guys ever do gambling of skill or games like poker, then we'll do other things but this works for me so far.
If people had profession gambler, I'd let your ranks add to your roll in 5% increments.
Once you've made a roll, please post a small montage of your experience then I'll progress to meeting "the boss" this afternoon.
Alyna Dolette |
Still haven't quite figured out what to get... heh. As for a firearm, it doesn't make sense for me to get one yet unless its "for Alyna to study" since she's all into technology and inventions.
Narrator Prime |
ok, remember that there's a 20% discount in items here for you. Technically Suna is correct.
20% off adamantine puts it at exactly 2400gp for a weapon. (Plus weapon cost). Given most weapons are cheap at around 10 - 30gp, I'm good for that.
Feel free to add a light adamantine hammer.
Pepperbox is indeed excessive, but pistols not so much.
Let's not make a huge issue of this. It's a gift designed to help you in your effectiveness below and in battles to come. It may make things much easier in some battles and make almost no difference in others so lets not quibble too much.
I'm thinking
Alyna - an adamantine hammer. Good against robots when spells aren't rolling out from you.
Zlota - already chosen. While she took two items, neither is excessive nor overpowering for what she's all about.
Boba - Already sorted.
Bitha - Adamanitine weapon all the way. It would be the most effective for robots etc.
Suna - The same. Adamantine weapon would be great.
I am comfortable with those as the DM. They will make things below the tunnels easier, but they do come wiht the caveat that the technic league doesn't want too many folks wandering around with gear like that. Not an issue in Torch, but then the campaign progresses out of Torch eventually.
Bitha Sark |
Sounds good to me! I'll note it on my sheet in the morning.
Alyna Dolette |
Sorry, I've been fairly busy the past few weeks. I had a 6-week leadership/management course in Texas, and having a 3-day weekend before I go back to work is giving me the chance to spend time with my family (whom I haven't seen in the 6 weeks other than FaceTime).
Zlota Argyr |
I apologize for the absence. Between the festive weekend, horrible weather Monday, and spending a large amount of time at the doctors Tuesday (I'm fine, but now on several meds), I found my energy for games those days, well, sapped. Catching up now, will post ASAP.
Bitha Sark |
DM, when you get to feeling better, is there any way we might be able to get a map of what we have explored and not?
Narrator Prime |
some maps for you.
Depending on your memory you should be able to work out where everything happened here.
1st map = caves.
A4 was the blinding frog,
A6 was the frozen room,
A7 is where the grey folk were living. The doors there led to the desert complex
Areas A10 - A11 led to the gremlins and a set of doors seemingly welded shut.
map 2 = desert
B2 you fight your first fully working robot.
B5 is the room that Alyna thinks can be reactivated to heal people
B11 is the lightning room trap
B12 is the room you recently reactivated to get the desert dome fully functional again
B13 is where you fought the juju
b14 leads to your current section
Map 3 = Current zone
you are all at the end of the corridor with the blood smear. About to go through it.
Bitha Sark |
Awesome! Thanks so much, DM.
Narrator Prime |
Actually it's my health. I suffer from anxietY and depression. It expresses itself through crushing migraines and then days lethargy.
The last 4 weeks have been fairly rough. Not sure why, checking with doctors.
Unfortunately it's making it very tough to keep regular posting going. You guys have been very patient thank you. If I can't get on top of it, I may need to recruit a replacement DM for you sorry to say.
Suna Razorfang |
Hrm i was not aware but based on the pattern around here it seems for no reason at all this is around the time people suddenly catch sickness/depression/what have you. Don't stress yourself.
Zlota Argyr |
Due to circumstances beyond my control relating to various aspects of my life (family, work, and health) I am afraid that, for the time being, I must leave the games for now. I apologize for not posting sooner, but, as stated, things have gotten beyond hectic in my life.
I am sorry for any troubles this may pose in the games. I wish you all the best in both life and games, and who knows? Maybe in the near future I will be able to play with you all once again in a different game.
Narrator Prime |
As for the rest of us. I'm happy to continue on with just the four players for the moment. I won't recruit anyone new until I can be sure my health isn't interfering with the game any more.
The AP's are designed for four players anyway, so you should be ok. At this stage, missing and Arcanist isn't such a huge issue.
Cheers
