Gellumniq Clockwerk at your service, checking in with great interest!!
Earth Gnome Cleric of Garal Glitterlode, lucky and quick on his feet.

This avatar should be fully statted up, ready to play. This would be my first PbP experience, so I would be honored if you picked me.

I humbly sumbit my brief back story:

Spoiler:

Gellumniq is a true free spirit. While most of his Earth-gnome kin were focused fitting in to the Human-dominated world around them, Gellumniq was always more interested in going for long walks and getting fresh air.
Not having a homeland to call his own helped shape him into the wanderer he knew he was meant to be. From a young age he took the teachings of Garal Glitterlode to heart, and it wasn't long before his prayers were being answered in tangible ways most people can never expect to experience, much less harness.
Gellumniq is quick on his feet, lucky more often than not at games of chance, and never let himself linger too long in any given town or city. The nomad's life-- that's what kept him lucky! The mystery, the danger, the adventure! There is always more around any given corner, and the world was waiting to unfold for those who were just willing to go out and see it.

*I just reread the last several entries, I see there is a request for a Human Cleric and a Dwarf Cleric. I am willing to switch up this character to fill those roles if it is needed, but gnomes have always appealed to me.
It is pretty late so I don't have a huge back story. I'll think more on it and add to my history tomorrow.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

By all means select Gellumniq. As much as I would love to play B1-9 I'm always ready to see new people get into PbP's.

OK, I have decided to take two parties of eight after much reflection. Why? A party of eight is able to take some attrition (from drops more the death) and can suffer a lack of posting during combat. If two characters haven't posted, and six of the characters have--the two characters can be 'glued to the floor in fear' 'rooting around in their pack' 'checking the blind side' with out hurting the party too much.

Please give notice if you won't be posting for a while. To make things easier I will be designating a leader (caller in the old days) that can make default party decisions. Waiting for a consensus is what slows many PbPs down. Individual character inputs will be just as valuable, because the caller need to only fill in the 'holes' from the individual posts. For example: we step thirty feet back as the rogue disarms the trap or if the caller asks "Priest, can you bless us" and the priest doesn't post, he will be blessing you. If the caller posts before my combat 'update' it can clarify what everyone is doing.

I am getting the first post ready Monday evening and will be starting group 1 by then. Group 2 should be ready soon after.

Remember, your social contract is one post every weekday= 5 posts per week. More if you want.

Aviari - Druid
Ceweldyn - Druid
Ederet - Monk

Maldor - Wizard
Linndell - Rogue

Gellumniq - gnome cleric

Another possibility for deities -- the dragons
Lawful good Bahumat is a great paladin/LG cleric deity

This guy just had some movies--he is now more relevant:
Thor
(Donar, the Thunderer)
Greater Deity (Eternal of Energy)
Symbol - Warhammer
Alignment - CG
Clerics - CG, NG, CN
Portfolio - Storms, thunder, war
Domains - Chaos, Good, Protection, Strength, War, Weather
Home Plane - Ysgard
Weapon - Warhammer

Usually portrayed as a powerfully built man with a red beard and eyes filled with lightning. Thor is (according to mythology) the son of Odin and a female giant named Jord. Where Odin is complex and crafty, Thor is straightforward and physical - this makes him popular with the common man. According to the cult, nothing challenges people like combat and so it is popular among soldiers throughout the Northern Reaches and the Antalian Wastes of the Hollow World. The cult also teaches that violent storms are a necessity, since they sweep aside weak structures and wash away detritus. Thor's clergy are most likely to be seen wearing armour and carrying war hammers. Like Odin's temples, the interiors of Thor's temples are raucous places where mead, beer, and ale flow freely, hot food is plentiful, and physical challenges are constant entertainment. Parishioners greet visitors to Thor's temples by challenging them to a drinking contest, a foot race, or a wrestling match.

This is Oceanshieldwolf's submission. Monk.

Niamhaoife (pr. "Nee-ahv-eve") or "Nee" for short, is a wild warrioress banished from her sept for impetuousness and behavior not becoming an ascetic - to whit - emotional outbursts, avid curiosity ("the taint of worldliness") and a lust for new experiences and adventure.

Age: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 + 15 = 21 years
Height and Weight: 2d10 ⇒ (4, 10) = 14 [inches; x 5 lbs] added to 4'5" and 85 lbs = 5'7", 155 lbs.

Since no one seems to want to play the Dwarf cleric, I will volunteer. I'm new to PbP and was looking to play a Dwarf warpriest in a PFS scenario, so this is close. Unless someone posts before me, I will work on my character today.

One question about his deity. It appears he is Neutral but clerics can be Lawful or Neutral. In order to stay within 1 step, do I need to be NG or LN or can I be LG like most dwarves? Thanks

One step would be preferred--NG and LN are both one step from the dwarf norm and the deity. I would pick the one you liked best. There may be room for two dwarf clerics with BFHs.

You are correct sir, for some reason I thought your OP said a 10 point buy. I have updated my stats to:

Str 10 (+2 buy, -2 Racial)
Dex 12 (+2 buy)
Con 12 (+2 Racial)
Int 7 (-4 buy)
Wis 16 (+10 buy)
Cha 16 (+5 buy, +2 Racial)

Question about Mystara:
Your Mystara link showed the gnome deity spelled "Garal Glitterlode" but in most references online I'm seeing "Garl Glittergold." Is there a distinction between the two, for you as a GM? Would you prefer one over the other? Also, it looks like the Battle Axe is Garl's favored weapon. I'm going to assume the two names are the same deity and update my character with a Battle Axe.

Here is my submission for dwarven cleric. I still need to get some gear and choose my spells. Do I need to pay for the BFH?

All gift items are free.
Both deities are the same.

I am so psyched for this game! As an avid gamer for over three decades <cough>(Holy Geezers that guy is old!)<cough> I grew up on the original Gygax adventures. I still have ALL of the AD&D 1st edition hardcover books and some of the 2nd edition ones too! And, as Logan has noted, I absolutely love your magic items tying to each character rather than the vanilla 'you have a masterwork weapon.' Can't wait!!

I have all 1st and 2nd edition books, and cut my teeth on the Holmes Basic Set. I, too, am an old grognard (started in '78) and really looking forward to this campaign. Welcome aboard!

Okay, plan to start Monday--homework is to watch the following videos below--one will give an example of what type of player we do not want--a druid that won't leave the forest:

LINK_Best game ever
LINK_Summer of 83

For nostalgia's sake, we will probably start in a tavern.

Gellmniq has:
The Glittergold goggles. Gnomes love to find treasure. These goggles give +2 to perception checks underground.

Cu has the Scale of Bahamut -- this small golden scale is reputed to be from one of the nine gold dragons that serve Bahamut and is set into a belt. It provides +1 natural armor.

Characters approved and in are:
Denlin Longarm - barbarian
Chestman Barrelhouse - fighter
Durahl - Fighter
Teraldan- Paladin
Aviari - Druid
Ceweldyn - Druid
Ederet - Monk
Talon - Rogue
Maldor - Wizard
Linndell - Rogue
Mungo - ranger
Arya - bard
Caelmah - Wizard
Malthor - Dwarven cleric
Gellumniq - Gnome cleric
Cu - Monk

____________

Alternates and possible group 3 candidates
Luna - Cleric

Thanks GM. Ni-Cu will work too, but Cu is fine. ;)

[EDIT - is that item slotless? Or headpiece, necklace, pendant, amulet, talisman? /EDIT]

Ni-Cu has scale in a belt.

Each group will get their own thread. We will use this gameplay thread when the groups meet each other. Before having the groups split up, I think I am having an opening encounter for everyone in a tavern. It will not last long, but be an 'ice-breaker'. Then the two groups will each get their own gameplay thread.

I will roll initiative for everyone. PCs will be expected to make a post a day and the action will be integrated as best as I can. Contingency posts will help, for example, Denlin rushes to the closest enemy. The rogue attacks the target of the blinding ray after the illusionist acts. If forward orc drops, cleric will heal the injured dwarf. If not, he attacks the forward orc. Posting AoOs if you have a reach weapon in a spoiler is suggested. If not, I will roll for you. If you want to post a save in a spoiler as a single d20, I will use it rather than roll myself. If the action is not slowed down, I may allow the PCs to roll some saves. If the bad guys turn will be delayed--I will probably roll the save for you.

Initiative will look like this. Those in bold know they are up. As they act I will probably unbold them.

ROUND 1

Coolness, Monday it is then :D

Shadow Lodge

Looking forward to it!

@GM - yes thanks, I just reread your post - belt it is!

Thanks for the heads up on gameplay logistics - sounds good, and yes, looking forward to it!!!

GM rolling for initiative works well.

I've seen GM's make bunches of saves for the Area of Effects on PC's to save time rather than waiting for everyone to make a roll...

@GM Tribute - I came across this PbP that uses a Initiative tracker up at the top of the page to indicate who is up next:

LINK

I am familiar with the famous DM Grimmy.

As a matter of taste, I put the map in the short description link. Initiative will be posted in the updates to help track who has gone with bold to indicate who has yet to go.

^^And I got most of my initiative ideas from GM Tribute actually, just tweaked a little.

Hey Tribute, noob question... I've seen you use this acronym a couple of times "BFH"? All I can think of is "Big F'ing Hammer"?

Maybe it means "Blessed From Heaven"...lol

All good. I prefer updates with initiative and current/next up anyhow... ;)

Have you assigned the parties yet? I'd like to read up on my team's backgrounds for fluff and potential plot lines. Oh, and this could be the Best Game EVER!!!

The following characters can post in the discussion thread and, after reading the introduction in the gameplay--can post in the gameplay thread. Make sure to track your purchases and encumbrance noting how much each item costs in gp and its weight in pounds. Remember, given items are considered weightless unless I gave it a weight in its description. Of course Denlin's sword weighs like a greatsword.

Note--you had almost no time to talk as the crowd noise was loud. All you discovered is all those at your table are in the same boat as you and just as informed.

Denlin Longarm - barbarian
Chestman Barrelhouse - fighter
Durahl - Fighter
Teraldan- Paladin
Aviari - Druid
Ceweldyn - Druid
Ederet - Monk
Talon - Rogue
Maldor - Wizard
Linndell - Rogue
Mungo - ranger
Arya - bard
Caelmah - Wizard
Malthor - Dwarven cleric
Gellumniq - Gnome cleric
Cu - Monk

will be making a few equipment changes if thats ok with you...nothing major, just lightening the load

We lost a dwarf. Faster than I would have predicted, but the reason we have some numbers in the group.

If anyone wants to make a dwarf fighter or cleric, we can still take another.

As mentioned, we are kicking off today and most of you have your first post under your belt. There are two gameplay threads ready for group 1 and 2, but this will be the 'common' area. As mentioned, the minotaur will be updating today after a brief recap.

who is in group 1 and group 2

Dwarf fighter upcoming:

Age: 5d6 + 40 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 6, 1) + 40 = 60
Ht/Wt: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7

60 years old.

4'4" and 199 lbs.

OK, Broldun should be good.

Another opening is available. Cleric, bard or full BaB type preferred.

I sent a message to a friend who might be interested.

The build I present is going to be a melee fighter, though his ancestors where tainted with the blood of a dragon, and that will manifest along his career (I'll take a socerer level to qualify for Dragon disciple, if available, but it will be mainly a frontliner)

age:: 1d6 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Ht/Wt:: 2d10 ⇒ (9, 2) = 11

21 years old
5'9" 175lbs.

Griego looks like a good character. Need to modify him for Core Build =no archetypes.

Still need a rogue as it appears one of our rogues has left. Puts at about 20% attrition in the first week, which is par for the PbP course.

Well, nothing in the archetype was still active, so done.
