Well....I messed up big time then. I took the statblock from another site...and its probably a 3.5 statblock. I'll revise
its BaB is 11/6/1 which means 3 attacks, if it doesn't FoB then it gets the two claw attacks for a total of 5 attacks.
So, lets just say that the harpy used a Ki point to gain an attack and call it good. I'll make the changes to the statblock so it doesn't happen again.
1d8 + 5 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 3 = 8
1d8 + 5 - 3 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 3 = 4
1d8 + 5 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 3 = 3
1d8 + 5 - 3 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 3 = 4
1d6 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 3 = 2
1d6 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 3 = 4
Yep. One of the elementals still lives!

GM Niles |

Correct, but it doesn't matter because one of the air elementals died and the other one lived, end result would have been the same.

Gilmork |

I'll be off from wednesday the 8th till friday night the 17th of july. I'll probably log back in on the following saturday. Having a small vacation on an island along the coast.
Bot me if needed and please don't get me killed ^^. Good luck!

GM Niles |

Hey guys,
I have drill this weekend so that means sparser posting, and then only in the evenings from my laptop in the hotel.
Thanks!

Re my bob the skull reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_(The_Dresden_Files)
The Dresden Files are great btw, although start from book 2 or 3 and go back to read other others later.

Silas Hawkwinter |

Supposedly the author (Jim Butcher) wasn't able to write the first two books the way he wanted and still get published. Anyway there's a lot of them now and unlike GRRM, I believe Jim Butcher will actually finish the series.

Jaxom, Stone-Twin |

My normal advice is start with book 4. Book four is great. Book 3 has some necessary things, but it could be read after book 5 and still make a lot of sense.
Some people are concerned when I tell them book 2 is mostly important for relationships and that most of the mythos can be picked up elsewhere.

Gilmork |

I'm back guys, sorry for the hold-up. It was a nice vacation although it was not a tropical island :)
As to the matter of the Dresden Files, I've seen the series and played the table-top RPG version of it, haven't read the books yet, am planning to do so after finishing my Terry Pratchett wishlist.

And to think, when I started the game I wasn't certain that I would go past the first module

Lucanor |

Wow. It's actually pretty impressive. I've had lots of games putter out, and others that closed with no warning, in just the first few months
Let's not jinx it though *knock on wood*

GM Niles |

No, but things stay relatively flat as far as the math goes, so say the party is level 10, a CR 2 monster is still able to harm and be a threat to them. Whereas in Pathfinder anything outside of +/-3 CR is either way too hard or way too easy, it makes encounters sometimes hard to manage as a GM.
I like 5E for a whole host of other reasons also. No christmas tree effect, no magic item mart syndrome, much fewer rolls, a bigger reliance on GM adjudication, less rules, less spellcaster/martial disparity, you can roll a character in like 5 minutes and level up in 3 instead of the hours it takes in Pathfinder.
The problem is that WoTC isn't supporting the 5E ruleset the way Paizo supports the Pathfinder ruleset with lots of good adventures, lore, maps and such.
So, I like Paizo's lore and setting but I'm increasingly turned off by their math heavy ruleset.

GM Niles |

I'll be in meetings tomorrow most of the workday. Don't expect much from me until after 2PM CST.

GM Niles |

I have drill this weekend so probably not much from me until Sat afternoon when I make it to my hotel.
The good news is that all I have to do Saturday evening is work on maps for the game...so I'll be making them all so we can finish this part of the adventure. Once again, sorry for the delay...its the beginning of the school year so I've been pretty busy.

Silas Hawkwinter |

OK so charm person, facinate, suggestion etc only work out of combat when they don't feel threatened. I think they are worth a chance, although the DC is not so high on Silas's control skills but he has quite a few so I reckon I can handle 3.
Still if Jaxom was to summon some monsters (while invisible) and get those to draw some of the guards away, then I think we can make that work.
Plan B, (because we always need plan b) is for Silas, Jaxom, Hecktor and Michael's troops to pull off a big big bluff: Use Illusions and real troops to convince the defenders that a large army is outside on the opposite side of town. Meanwhile Gilmork and Luc open the gate, taking out the few remaining defenders.

Jaxom, Stone-Twin |

I don't know what's wrong with the simpler plan of sneak in invisibly and use the staff to kill the defenders 13d4 hit dice worth of deadness should wipe out six mercenaries. It preserves the most resources and has the highest chance of getting them all in one go.

Silas Hawkwinter |

Wait, which staff was that? I've not updated the loot spreadsheet for a month or so.

nilesr |

I'll push us forward sometime this afternoon. I'm in off site meetings all day today.

Silas Hawkwinter |

The Staff of Necromancy we got from Vade's box.
Oh I see. Yeah I guess you will be able to take out mooks with that. OK lets go with that plan.

Hecktor |

Silas, if you feel this is your retirement point, i'm not stopping you.
But it sure would be a bummer, since we've not yet had our showdown with the Gavel.
We've been in tight spots before, and managed.
Hell, we'd carry your corpse to a church if need be ;)

Gilmork |

I'm experiencing some difficulties with my pc, it crashed last friday (again) and I'm trying to fix it. I will have access to an old laptop with internet access, but it won't be optimal.
Also Hecktor also has +3 AC due to Barkskin, don't forget that.

GM Niles |

I just read the Hell's Rebels players guide....wow I'm super excited for this one. Almost as much as I was for Iron Gods...maybe a little more actually.
IF/when we wrap this campaign up...that would be the one I'd run next as I'm not really interested in Giantslayer or Hell's Vengeance really.

Silas Hawkwinter |

That looks pretty cool. I like urban adventures.
Might be an excuse to play a paladin, or branch out into something I've not tried before like a magus.
Not directly related but one thing I've wanted to try for ages us to all play with the same class but different archetypes. E.g. all bards or all paladins or all clerics. Could be fun.

GM Niles |

I think a party of all Milani worshippers would be boss for this adventure. Bard, Cleric, Warpriest...etc.
I also like that its almost exclusively urban and at least half of the "encounters" per book are supposed to be intrigue/diplomacy type encounters. Less combat is better imho...

I like everything I've been hearing about it as well. Given how oppressed halflings are in Cheliax, while I'm not sure about the class, I'm leaning towards that for the race.

Silas Hawkwinter |

Unchained background skills could be rather useful in such a campaign.

Lucanor |

I'm perfectly cool with a Milani focused group. Though that would nix Silas' paladin angle (CG goddess couldn't have one) so he might lean magus or something else.
I am considering a bard or celestial sorcerer

Silas Hawkwinter |

I'm already playing a cleric of desna in another game so I'd want to do something different.
Since Milani is CG, paladin is out. Maybe inquisitor. Warpriest (kind of a divine magus) seems the wrong vibe for an urban campaign, well probably.

Lucanor |

While I am no master of the class despite all the time and help, I will say Inquisitors certainly seem to rock in the skill department and the Player's Guide mentions how useful those are in this :)

GM Niles |

Imho, the best classes for this type of a campaign would be (In my own preferential order)
Bard
Warpriest (of Milani ofc, this is pretty dang close to a Paladin honestly)
Urban Ranger (Spell less is my preference)
Inquisitor
Sorceror (Protean or Some other chaotic bloodline)
Rogue (Unchained ofc)
I could honestly see EVERYONE worshipping Milani and taking the Evangelist or Exalted prestige class from Inner Sea Gods...
I'm so psyched for this AP...maybe more than Iron Gods.
@Jaxom Milani is probably my third favorite god in the setting Sarenrae>Shelyn>Milani>Iomedae

Silas Hawkwinter |

Mmm Santified Slayer inquisitor sounds like fun. Lots of skills and good in combat too. Yeah I'd like to give that a try.

Silas Hawkwinter |

Core bard is great and more rounded than most of the archetypes. Chelaxian Diva archetype is worth an honorable mention though.
Evangelist Clerics are pretty cool too, having cleric spells with inspire courage. I'm playing one of those in another campaign so I'd want to do something different, of course that should NOT stop you guys ;)
Warpriest is nice (sacred fist in particular) but its far more combat focused than inquisitor and if there is a lot of social occasions I think an Inquisitor would be better. I like Silas because I can do lots of fun social things while being okish in combat.

Hecktor |

Hmm...i've been away for work and BOOM, a bomb dropped in discussion.
I've never played characters who were active followers of deities, save for my sole monk, but he only refers to Irori on the rare occasion.
That would be a 1st :)

GM Niles |

Man, I almost always play characters that are followers of a diety. My favorite classes are Paladin and Cleric. I'm digging the Warpriest though as a Paladin of Godsthatdon'thavenormalpaladins.
@Jaxom Her diefic obediences are in the Hell's Rebels players guide...its the best Players Guide yet imho because it has so much content. I felt the Iron Gods PG was lacking in sufficient direction for people wanting to play in the campaign.
As an aside, I'm not really a fan of "Play whatever you want" type games especially APs because often players make characters that are far removed from being appropriate to the campaign themes.
