Domino is within melee with his whip so he can aid my character. I asked this question a few months ago on the forums and everyone agreed that a whip can be used to aid from 15 feet away.
Whoops, that's right. My bad.

I can attack and act as melee within, but i do not threaten for AoO purposes and i would provoke as if using a ranged weapon.

Thank you for the warning/notice.

I sent Jimmy a PM to make sure everything is okay. If we don't hear from him by noon (PST) as to what is going on, I'll push the game forward.
Council Chairman |
Is nobody is moving/posting. Is there a problem I need to be aware of?

Time for some hard liquor. I'm a scotch man.

@CC: What happened to the action I had continuously readied for Jimmy, when attacked? :(
Jimmy swings his swords at the dog east of him. "Jimmy slash!"
[dice=Jimmy Slash!]1d20 + 4 [dice=Damage]1d10 + 2 [dice=Miss <21%]1d100
"Stop making it dark! Jimmy thinks it's hard to see in the dark!"
How's it work with light sources, do their effects stack in this situation? Darkness makes the light level 1 lower, Jimmy's light spell makes the level 1 higher, and the dancing light make the level 1 higher? Not sure it would, but not sure it wouldn't.
Darkness as a 2nd lvl spell canceling out light spells of any lower level and negates daylight....vice versa applies as well.
Dancing lights and light only create torchlight which underground with no other sources of light is dim illumination. The darkness spell 2 overrides our dancing lights 0 and light 0 to full dark. It is very black now.

I put you in full defense because I didn't want to play your character.

Obscuring Mist is 20% miss when then the enemy is within 5ft, 50% miss when farther away.
Yes, I know. And darkness is a 50% miss chance. The dogs are fighting in the dark. Do the two stack? Do I need to roll the darkness check and then the obscuring mist check? That seems intense and this fight will never end. The obscuring mist stopped the tiefling's from shooting you guys.

No, they don't stack. You got this right.

Well, if they did stack, this fight is going to be extremely long. The dogs only have low light vision + scent. So, they're in the dark. Only darkvision counters. The dogs are disfigured and are not "normal" dogs. But now it's dark so who knows why or exactly how. They certainly are bigger than normal dogs.

When you confirm a crit, do you have to beat the darkness miss rate again?

Okay, wasn't sure. I'll update my post, as that will kill the dog.

So, I finally finished teaching my kid all 74 Hiragana Japanese letters. So, now I can read basic Japanese. I have no idea what I'm saying, but my son understands it.
He's leaving with his mom for Japan later next week, just in time.

Sunday slowdown syndrome. I guess I'll come back later.

I should also note that Tristain and Ezren are still in an obscuring mist (it's a 2 minute spell, so it has about 10 more rounds left in it), so they can't see what's coming. On the other hand, whatever is making that noise you guys heard can't see you either.
On a more silly note: I've been kicked out of an online campaign today because the NPC insults my character, so he attacked. PC casts sleep on me, knocks me out (I don't get to save on it), then hauls me off to jail. Bye-bye character. I guess I made the GM mad for attacking his NPC.
The good news is that it frees up more time for me.

Pfft. He has nothing but crushed dreams of stardom. ;)
Tristain puts away his scythe and thanks Domino for his bow. "That was crazy. I do not like fighting in the dark..."

That is a silly note. Not sure how to explain that.

Tristain moved to the edge of the mist exactly so he could see out (with Ezren's light). I can move 5' more if you think he'd have an issue seeing out.
Not sure how Jimmy healed Tristain from so far away. Jimmy, did you move closer? Or do I have the icons confused?
Council Chairman |
Ezren healed you as well, not Jimmy.
As for the mist, you'd have to stick your head out by moving 5' more. Currently, you can see 5' in front of you. Step out 5', you'd see further away. Even if that's not exactly how it works, that's the way I'll rule it for now because if you can see down the hall, that implies they can see you, which probably isn't a good thing.
Please see my spoiler post in the gameplay thread. Take this opportunity to get your tactics figured out. Remember: if they are barricading the door, while that prevents you from going through the door, it prevents them from coming through the door. This is a huge benefit for the PCs from a nice idea by Domino on the ghost sounds and bluff. The obscuring mist combined with the belief that there are hellknights with you has stopped you guys from being overwhelmed. I'm rather impressed by the combination.
Tristain the Chalker |
Can we get an updated map?
I'm confused from the initial description to what has transpired.
Tristain 'stepped out' of the mist so he could see, sneakily, then back in, then back out to fight. I think the confusion is that I meant that Tristain moved 5' out then back in, but it seems that GM CC thinks Tristain moved further than I thought.
We'll work it out.
Council Chairman |
I thought it was clear when I said "YOU SEE THIS GUY DOWN THE HALLWAY "
Down the hallway is, well, not next to you. It's down the hallway. Since the hallway isn't all that long I thought it would be pretty clear he's near the end of the hallway. Frankly, I avoided putting the specific distance because I was trying to look up the rules on how far you could see in "dim light" and couldn't find it quickly. So, I was purposefully vague as to the exact distance. I didn't want to hold the game up searching endlessly for the exact distance dim light provides.
Edit - found its between 20-40' range. Took a while to locate that language.
Tristain the Chalker |
This makes sense, however it was not what I was envisioning. It's not a big deal, just that Tristain moved much further than he stated.
'Down the hallway' could have been about 15' from where T thought he was. And since we are in a 60' hallway, it's easy to see the confusion.
We'll move on. I'm sure this turdburglar knows where the poop is.
Council Chairman |
'Down the hallway' could have been about 15' from where T thought he was. And since we are in a 60' hallway, it's easy to see the confusion.
Not to be picky (well, yes, to be picky, but in a nice way):
While the hallway is 60' (I guess), from where you were standing, the length of the hallway was to the end 30'. Since you're looking down that direction (since the other direction is filled with mist, it's the only way to look), it's 30' all the way to the end from your current position, and 25' the moment you stepped 5' forward. So, 25' from where you looked, and it's not right next to you but "down the hall" really means it has to be a bit further. It either means he's probably at the end or very close to the end, since at 25' to the end, and assuming he's not 5' next to you, really limits the places to put the guy.
Sorry for the confusion, but to say there was a 60' window (12 squares) of options to put him in really isn't accurate. Maybe that's not what you meant, but I've got time since I was booted this morning from another game so I felt like addressing this.
Council Chairman |
Well, got some good news at least today that made me happy: I figured out how to get rid of campaigns on my campaign tab by myself. Have to find the gameplay thread on the forums (sorting by date helps), then click the hide thread option. Ahhh, dead games are gone at last.

I don't want to assume what you guys are going to do.
Are you going to escort him to the door or something else? Someone make a decision in the next 4 hours if you can.
Tristain the Chalker |
Tristain your call, he should know due to magic you passed your save so you can still choose to follow his directions in a sign of good faith...
Sure. Trust Tristain. That's a good idea.
We'll see what happens on his init, won't we? I can't wait to find out too.
What's not clear GM CC, is if we are out if initiative, are we? If not, who is up?
Council Chairman |
Yes, we are out of initiative. That would be too complicated at this point. Should you guys take a hostile action, or they take a hostile action, we will roll initiative again. So, if you guys want to do a hostile action, let me know and we'll roll initiative, or you guys can roll initiative (just look at the last initiative roll). However, I was rather hesitant to announce "combat was over" like I normally would, given the situation.
The reason I'd keep it that way is that both groups are "on edge" so to speak, so they are watching you closely, as you are watching them closely. Why I gave an option for anyone to interrupt the spell going on Tristain should they want to attack the mummy while he's casting it.
The Council Chairman wants to remind you that you have an unknown number of enemy combatants behind the barricaded door. That door is barricaded on their side, so they can remove the barricade should they decide to do it, and come through the door. So, you would be facing more than you are right now. Currently, the PC group is being benefited greatly by the fact that the enemy behind the door thinks there are a bunch of hellknights on the other side. I just want to make that tactical position abundantly clear.

Fyi the bluffer goes against the dc 15 to pass the message, not intended receivers. Ezren knows then.
Okay. I'll make sure to change it next time.

Awwwwwww.

Tristain has used both of the CLW potions already he was holding (see post 691). I will assume you use the one you found on the mummy. You are currently not holding any more CLW potions.
Post 581, Tristassassin the Looter:
Tristain takes a deep breath and lets go of the regret. He seems completely nonplussed by Moshley's strange death, stopping only to take Moshley's potions.
