The Chairman has a better system. [I will add this to the campaign info page on character creation]
Let's say your class is a D8 class, and normally you would roll 1d8 and get your HP. In my game, you roll 1d6+2. This prevents you from getting a really bad HP #, while still limiting you to 8HP max.
So, 1d12 becomes 1d10+2. 1D10 is 1d8+2. 1d8 is 1d6+2. 1d6 is 1d4+2. This should allow you to on average have a higher HP than average + 1 method, but still rewards you for a good roll without a huge penalty for a bad roll.
Please roll in discussion thread once I announce the level has been gained. When will then, be now? Soon.

=================================================
Cover
To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target's square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC).
=====================================================
If you shoot creatures further back, your line of attack had to pass through either Jimmy or Ezren (both in the front). That would qualify as occupied by a creature, would it not? The way I read it, if someone is in the way blocking the line of fire, they get cover.
Let me know.
Council Chairman
|
The creature had cover yes. I would have had to shoot past Jimmy (or through).
I also replied this in the pm you sent me. Next post with crossbow I will implement it(also replied in PM).
Ah, so you did. I'm in a bit of a rush this morning getting the pool ready, and I read your PM more like why it didn't apply. My apologies. Of course the shooting into combat doesn't apply, that's obvious. The issue is cover.
Cover is a pain in the butt for ranged attacks. Without precise shot and improved precise shot, ranged attacks will need to take into account cover as well as shooting into melee. I expect everyone to take this into account when doing ranged attacks going forward. In general, you can assume medium and smaller creatures will typically have regular cover, and large or bigger creatures will have partial cover.
But, because it says "Creatures" in the rule, it could be interpreted as only enemies. I don't think so, but I'm hoping some rule experts around here can answer in the definitive. Otherwise, I'll assume creatures also implies allies.
| Moshley Bodrick |
I was thinking about crafting, since gnomes have a bonus for crafting. Is there time to create anything in this game, apart from simple stuff such as arrows? Jimmy was thinking about the bastard sword and I would be able to create that by simply taking a 10, although it would take quite some time. Next level I will use one skillpoint on crafting which brings it to the level of martial(If I use 2 then I will be able to do exotic), so I would be able to create some decent stuff for the rest of the party too.

Video not available :( I'll be leaving soon for the night!
Okay, I'll NPC you if needed. More crossbow shots I believe.
Council Chairman
|
Yea it's all I can do for now. The time difference is really annoying :( What are the ideas about crafting btw? Then I could calculate that in when it's time to lvl up.
I have no opinion on it.
| Jimmy Bodrick |
But is there time to craft anything in this adventure path, or will we constantly be on the move?
Crafting requires time, and if there's barely time to craft then spending more than 1 rank in it might be a waste.
Council Chairman
|
The vast majority of the campaign occurs within the walls of Westcrown, is about the best answer I can give. Are you constantly on the move? Hmmm, I don't really know. I've looked through book 3 so far, seems fairly fast paced.
Council Chairman
|
Okay, you smash the last bug that was there.
Now. When you say you search: are you searching the immediate area, or are you exploring the map? It sounds like you are doing the immediate area, while another of you is pulling/pushing on the hatch.
Please let me know. Based upon the fact that you didn't move and update a map, I am going to assume you are not exploring the map and only the surrounding areas. If you don't post in an hour, I'll go with that assumption.
Furthermore, if you are moving to the hatch to pull on it, please update a map with that as well. Thank you.

Tristain is going for the portal. Sewers are smelly unpleasant places and looking through poop for treasure wouldn't occur to Tristain...that's goblinwork.
Amazingly, there is no poop in the sewers, nor is there any unpleasant smell. This is what is in fact in the game. I'm afraid none of you however have the necessary skill/knowledge to know why, but trust me, it's AMAZINGLY clean.
Council Chairman
|
They do indeed. Lots of things flush down here, yet there is no poop or garbage. There is no smell either.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Ah! I'm sorry to so overtly metagame, but I think I solved this book (and likely the entire AP) before we hit lvl 2: the Bastards of Erebus are a bunch of turdburglars and we heroes are out to stop there entire poop-stealing operation.

This hatch scene reminds me of the story of the jail cell Harry Houdini couldn't escape from because they didn't lock the jail door.

====SAFE HOUSE========
You will have a few days here at the safe house as downtime.
Besides Janiven, there are 11 other people at the safe house that you encounter. The racial/gender makeup is as follows:
3 Human Females
6 Human Males
1 Halfling Female
1 Gnome Female
If you wish to roleplay with anyone of these folks, I suggest you introduce yourself to them. We will have some roleplaying for Sunday and Monday, so you can talk to each other, the NPCs, whatever.
Furthermore, you gained 1,200xp for getting out of the sewer,in addition to the xp going into the sewer, and the xp during the sewer. So, congrats on what is described as the fastest first level in the history of gaming, or so I'm told. Please update your characters to level 2. Please roll for HP per my instructions earlier or see character creation section in the campaign info. Please send me a PM with what you changed. I of course will be building your characters as well to just double-check stuff. Tristain, send me your updated PDF via email, and please send me what you changed so I build it as well.
As for loot:
Unfortunately, you skipped a major treasure spot for going directly to the hatch, and as such your gold is going to be a bit less than I expected. I tried to make it up with some jewelry, which is not magical, it's just fancy jewelry worth (well, something, I'll figure it out and post in the loot file tomorrow morning my time). Once I figure it out, I assume all you guys will want to sell the stuff, so it will be split to you soon. It's late here and I don't want to goof it up.
When you get your coins, please tell me what you want to buy. If it is in the book, you can buy it. You will have in game-terms about 2 days before the next adventure, so if you want to "craft", remember the your character will be expected to move out in about 2 days. I've never crafted in a game, so if you decide to do this, walk me through the rules with some links.
If anyone has questions, feel free to send me PM or ask here. Nice job getting out of the Sewers without having to face the Hellknights.
I'm probably forgetting something, it's been a long day.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Here is the format we use in my other games for when levels are gained.
+1 Level Westcrown Firebrand (Chalker)
+10 hp (1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10 (+2 con))
+1 BAB
+Rapid Shot
+6 skills
--------
+1 Perception
+1 Survival
+1 Know (Local)
+1 Disable
+1 Climb
+1 Intimidate
GM CC: New sheet will be forthcoming.
Council Chairman
|
Yeah, that's a decent layout for allowing me to change stuff in my file, then I can look at your character sheet and see if they match. If they don't, I will send you a PM.
--Moshley make sure you have your CMB/CMD updated. It should be -1/11.
@ Everyone -- You need to determine the value of the jewelry before you sell it to a vendor. Normally, the DC would be 20 per the rules. I'm going to be super nice (alien abduction reports might be needed) and say DC 15. If someone makes the DC15, then you'll get full value (300 plat). If the highest is 10, then you'll only get 240 plat for the jewelry. Anything lower than a result of 10, the other NPCs will step in and tell you that it's clearly worth more than you think.
Once you guys finish the appraise (or someone beats the DC15 quickly), I'll update the loot file, distribute coins, etc. Then you have time for shopping.

Also, Moshley where do you do the crafting? The safehouse sits under the old shrine of Aroden, and they're not too keen on having lots of noise give away their location, as I suspect making a weapon involves some banging and hacking away at stuff. Do you leave and go back to your house to do it? Can you describe where you live, etc. Also, do you really want to spend a day making something for 1 gold, when you'll probably end up with over 700 gold once someone passes the appraisal check? You could spend the extra day roleplaying with some of the eleven NPCs. You can do whichever you want, but keep it in perspective.
The shrine has a secret "employees only" kind of door, and in that equipment room is a secret hatch under a rug that leads to the safehouse. So, when people come and visit the shrine (it's more of a curiosity relic now), you don't want to be making tons of noise. However, because people come and go to visit this place, it makes for a good location for a safe house since you don't draw too much attention with people coming and going. Of course, you could try to go through the sewers again....NAH.
| Moshley Bodrick |
Well I'm perfectly able to talk and craft at the same time... But it has not been mentioned before that we are under a shrine, I said I was going to craft so it would have been handy to mention such things beforehand. I will refill my bolts for my crossbow instead of the hand axe then, it doesn't make any noise and takes a lot less time. Will post about it soon.
My picture of the safehouse as you mentioned it was a bunker under the sewers, nothing more nothing less. That's why I started crafting. The shrine and the fact that we are connected to the outer world is fairly important I think to have mentioned earlier.

With Jimmy's successful appraisal role, the jewelry sells for 300 plat. You sell the junk you found at 50% it's value. Combined with the 30 gold you found elsewhere, the total coins received was 3,082 gold, split four ways is 77pp 5sp each.
Let me know what you spend it on or if you keep it. I'll leave the loot file the way it is for a few days, then clear it.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Hmmm...usually about now is when I would suggest going in on a wand of CLW, but since we really don't know we're a team yet, it doesn't make much sense.
Meh, healing is for chumps anyway.
* * *
The below are my intended purchases pending Tristain having cause to make them. He just inherited, over a few hours, more money than he's ever had (and of course, committed treason...it's been a big day). The below will be done after we have cause to purchase them.
13.9 gp starting gold
770.5 gp split #1
-----------------
784.4 gp
-730 gp darkwood mw comp longbow (+3 str)
-2 gp 40 arrows
----------------
52.4 gp left

Moshley has use magic device. The Council Chairman highly recommends the group purchase a CLW wand when you reach level 3. I believe Ezren doesn't need UMD, but Moshley's skill will be needed should Ezren not survive.
Council Chairman
|
Lastly, because I was so busy this morning and updating character sheets and whatnot, we'll have to extend the roleplay session a few more days.
Just like any real life situation, you can excuse yourself from a conversation and start talking to someone else if you wish. You can be a jerk about it or be nice about it, either way. I suggest mingling and getting to know at least 2 different NPCs during this time. Think of it as speed dating.

Character Updated
Ezren, can you please send me the changes made to your character besides just the HP? See a post a few higher from yours on a decent format. Just try to catch all the stuff that changes (saves/attacks/CMB/CMD/AC/etc.). It's a heck of a lot easier for me to keep track of it that way. You can also include the new armor/weapons whatever you purchased in that post, I can do it all at the same time.
Thanks.
| Tristain the Chalker |
If we want a wand of CLW we should all pay 1/4. It's going to be used for the group.
This guy makes the two thumbs pointing at himself gesture can no longer afford to chip in for the wand.
He will be happy to take a loan on it or purchase it when we acquire more funds.
| Ezren Geitus |

Like I said, it's not critical for level 2. It will be for level 3. The group will probably be okay as long as you don't act foolishly and without strategy.
| Jimmy Bodrick |
Including part of the inheritance he got from his parents Jimmy had 1001gp 4sp. He spent 335gp on a Masterwork Bastard Sword, and now has 666gp 4sp left.
Council Chairman

I'll have a lot more time today to deal with all the character changes, and all the PMs I have (jeez Louise, my inbox is getting full).
I recommend that everyone read everyone's posts about the NPCs (except the spoilers, those are private--thanks). As you need to gather information on them. So, don't stick too long with speaking or interacting with just one NPC. Given that there are 4 of you, I'd think getting to know about 8 or so NPCs would be helpful.
That's about all I want to say at this point. There is a lot more I could say, but I think it best I keep that information to myself for the time being.
Moshley -- I think when you're done with one of the NPCs, you should go meet the guy who runs the crafting place. It's actually somewhat critical to the story, about what happens when you leave the safe house. Since you've already left the safehouse briefly, and you'll be the crafter, it seems fitting that this part of the story fall to you. When we leave the safehouse, those posts will be done via spoilers. You can choose what you want to share with the group when you return.

I've updated the NPC listing photos to include the people in in the safehouse. I've included some factual information on them that you have learned or observed, just for reference.
