As mentioned, in a day or so please send me your comments on the applicants (your top choices and anyone who you definately think is a bad choice). This game is for you, not for me, so I want to make sure you guys are happy.
One of you have sent me a PM already, which I appreciated. Based upon your feedback, it will allow me to look at the ones you guys like more closely and then I make the final decision.

Okay, all three of you have sent me some feedback. I'll sort it out sometime today.
Another DM of my campaign where I was a player in just collapsed. I've been playing online here for about, I think a year or so, and I've been amazed at all the campaigns that collapse for one reason or another. I don't get it. Why make the commitment to GM a game, when you don't even know how you are going to do maps, or if you have the time to do it, etc.? It's so weird.

I've made one selection so far: Phaedra (level 3 cleric). She will be posting here shortly as I just informed her of her acceptance. As all of you have experienced, I had a couple of questions about her character sheet. I've also tried to explain some of the background of the city. She's an actor as well, so I tried to explain the acting thing here in the city as best as I could in a short PM.
I have one more selection to make. I'll take a look at the others tomorrow and make a selection.

Rolling for hp: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10
Hopefully I answered the questions satisfactory. :)
Over the past couple years, since her sister's scandal, Phaedra had been keeping a low profile. She has recently decided that enough time has passed that she should attempt to make a comeback. I was thinking that being part of the upcoming play would be a good way to meet up with the group?

For HP, it's 1d6 + 2 per level (thus making it like 1d8 but with a minimum roll of 3). So, you rolled 6+2 and 2+2 for 12 total. Adding your max HP of 8 for level 1, you should have 20 HP.
No worries on typos/errors, they happen. It's how you respond to them that matters to me.
As for human sacrifices, let me just address that here in the open, as it has come up several times in PMs. No one is expected to do a human sacrifice. I wouldn't do that to anyone. Performing one would certainly start to shift your alignment towards evil (jimmy/cough). However, animal sacrifice to save the group (like Ezren did) won't do that, but it's a rare situation brought upon by group actions (jimmy/cough).
Will you see them performed? Maybe/probably. Can you try to stop it? Hmmm. It's probably better to try to stop people from thinking it's okay to do a human sacrifice. There are going to be opportunities to do that in this campaign. However, human sacrifice is part of the worship of Asmodeus (probably buried in some deep book under section 145.b, subsection 45, phrase 72). So, the fewer worshipers of Asmodeus, the better. This is why you lose fame points if people convert to Asmodeus, and you gain fame points if people turn away from Asmodeus.
I have various ideas for it, but I'd rather let the players come up with strategies for that.
Edit: Oh, as for how to "meet" the group, you are to be considered part of (k)Night's Bane. There are several NPCs already in (k)Night's Bane, as you'll see on the campaign information page. One of the benefits for having a group of NPCs in the organization is you can easily insert a new player as if they were an NPC in the group. That's what we did with Corey/Domino when Moshley slipped on the blood on the stairs, breaking his neck.
| Phaedra Valerius |
Correcting the HP.
As for the rituals: Having lived her whole life in this town, I am going to assume that Phaedra has had to witness various rituals in the past and may have even seen what happens when someone does try to intervene. I think she will have learned that the best way to stop such behavior is to turn people away from the worship of Asmodeus rather than intervene each time she sees something she does not agree with. The only thing she hasn't figured out is exactly how to go about converting people.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Welcome Phaedra. I look forward to your contributions. And, as a side note, will you be at PaizoCon?
GM CC: yes, GM/DM burnout is quite high for PbP...it's the #1 cause of games crashing. People don't realize how hard it is to find a good GM and much work it is to run something. That's why when you find a consistent GM, you still with them.

I will be sending each of you a PM about some of the applicants (it's the same PM, but I don't want to post it here in discussion). I want a clear opinion reply relatively soon if you can. Phaedra, you need to reply to this as well.
Thanks.

Okay, today is crunch day. I'm sending you all one more PM.

William has been accepted into the campaign. Please welcome him.
Because of the holiday, let me know when you are ready to post. We will begin on July 6 at the latest but i can move it sooner if everyone is ready. I'll be "out" late July 4 and late July 5 (UFC event here in Vegas).
| William Silverheart |
Dot for entering in.
Thank you to everyone for having me. I should be ready to go when everyone here is.
Today is a slow day at the office, so I am going to work on ironing out kinks and also would be more than happy to answer questions about my character if anyone would like to ask.
HP levels 2 and 3: 2d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 + 2 = 7
Dice rolled were based on using the same template as Phaedra. If you would like me to correct, let me know.
| William Silverheart |
Thank you..., and wait a second..., no one said anything about theatrics or breaking legs.
Temp agencies. :P
EDIT: have read through the last page of info, just to get a sense of where the party is headed. It would be prudent I suppose at this point to know what information the new characters would have, so we know what we are expecting.
| William Silverheart |
Also, another non-related question: I may end up using a good portion of my money to buy spells for my spellbook, do you mind me just listing out the spells that I purchase for scribing versus anything I want to keep on hand for items?

Our adventure so far:
I totally understand not wanting to read 1000 posts. So, to summarize:
1) Janiveen and Ariel have formed a group of losers to improve the city. Because you decided to meet with these losers, you were implicated in treason, so you had to run from the Hellknights through the sewers to avoid them.
2) You discover Ariel was actually captured. Realizing that you were surrounded by hippie losers, Jersey Boys and some other strange fellas, Janiveen said you should save him since everyone else was mostly worthless. Yay, you saved Ariel and killed the Hellknight trainees who only were there doing their job to make a living, to put food on the table for their children back home, who will now starve because you killed their father! (haha)
3) The group has its first interaction with the greatest actor in Westcrown at the stables in the middle of the city. Things get out of hand, a horse had to be sacrificed and the shop owner converted to worshiping Asmodeus. Now the group lacks access to horses...
3) The Bastards of Erebus decided to steal and kill at night anyone who had money. How they actually could get around at night made it so dangerous. Suspecting tieflings (because, well, their tieflings), the government decided to exterminate as many tieflings as they could find, pile the bodies up, etc. You found the Bastards and took evidence of your victory, but at a bitter cost. One of your brethren slipped on blood on the stairs and broke his neck. Despite a few clues, it was still difficult to understand or figure out how the Bastards were able to move around at night without getting attacked by the shadow creatures.
4) Reporting the good news of the defeat of the Bastards, the group uses their imagery of (k)Night's Bane to the masses in various locations around the city. The tiefling massacre (as it will eventually be known as) came to a halt.
5) The group then got word that what might be causing the problems might be located in the old pathfinder lodge, AS DESCRIBED HERE. The problem of course is you can't just enter the lodge, the way in is hidden inside the Mayor's house in a vault called the Asmodean Knot. So, the idea is to audition for a play, once the play is over the actors (and only the actors with speaking parts) get invited to the Mayor's afterparty at his residence, then you use that to infiltrate the Asmodean Knot to get the secrets to enter the Pathfinder lodge.
I suggest reading the posts from that point onward. Make sure you read this post as well to get a sense of the actors and the director you'll be dealing with. I will probably re-arrange the acting roles.
Corey will continue to be Larazod
I believe Tristain should play Drovalid as Jimmy won't be available and Tristain has the highest HP and needs to be the toughest in the group. However, his lack of acting skills might make it a bit more dangerous.
I believe our new cleric Phaedra should play Tybian, who is the paladin in the play and comic relief.
I believe our new wizard William should play Dentris, since Dentris is supposed to be a wizard with the sharp tongue and wit.
Jimmy will be the Bailiff, who only has a short introduction role that was going to be done by the director.
I'll think about it and send the scripts tomorrow. Send me feedback if you really want a different role.

Do what you think is best and will make it easy for me to follow exactly what you are doing, since I do it as well on my end. Keep in mind that I'm tracking all the players, so I will never know your character as well as you do, but I try my best. The easier you make it for me, the better.
Also, please roll your HP here in the discussion thread for level 2 and 3. Wizard is D6 so roll 1d4 + 2 + CON for each level, plus max HP at level 1.

Wonderful.
*Immediately goes to check the BBB listings for Chelaxian Temp Agencies*
Sounds good. Have the character done on my HL client at home, so when I leave tonight, I'll get there and make updates. Have a late freight pickup tonight, so could be at office till possibly 8pm CST.
| William Silverheart |
Ok, updated character sheet, should be finalized now, as well as having money spent.
I did change one of his feats, as he probably is not going to be able to do much crafting for the moment, so swapped it out with Superior summoning. If that feat is not ok, let me know and I can change it.
I'm ready to start when you guys are. If we want to get going this weekend I'm good with that. Just need to get an idea how a poor hapless scribe stumbles into this mess. :P

Welcome William! :)
I hope you'll all still live when I return from my vacation! Is Phaedra now carrying the Wand of Cure Light Wounds we bought?

I just changed the loot file, so she's carrying the 50 charge wand and Domino continues to hold the 11 charge wand. She bought one but I refunded her since she was unaware we had 61 charges of CLW.

Please see PM on character sheet. Almost done.
I'll think about how your poor hapless self stumbled into Janiveen and Ariel's service now that I have your background. You're a member of (k)Night's Bane, but how you got there...I'll think about it tomorrow.

Realized I should post: I'm drinking heavily at the moment....so here goes...
Hope everyone (even Jimmy) enjoyed July 4th. I did something weird: I read the Declaration of Independence and then I read the Communist Manifesto. I'm a trained economist, but I have to admit never to actually reading the Communist Manifesto until today. Figured I should read it sometime. I'll have to eventually get around to reading Das Kapital, if nothing but for laughs. I've got all this time on my hands because all my campaigns that I'm a player in have fallen apart.
Which brings me to that annoying point: there should be a "feedback" button like on Ebay that penalizes GMs for starting campaigns and then dropping them by disappearing or other lame excuses. One campaign me and Tristain were in, the GM suddenly announces he can't provide maps because of copyright concerns....OMG. What kind of loser creates a game and then suddenly realizes he can't actually provide a map...
Played another game using google maps and the GM put a grid of A-Z on one side and 1-50 on the other axis, and we had to announce our movements like playing a game of Battleship. YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP!!!! That game of course, the GM disappeared as well.
If I disappear, call the friggin cops cause my wife decided to finally kill me. I'm retired so I have too much time on my hands to post. I'm tempted to GM another game, as playing as a player is a friggin crap shoot.
Anyways, i'm chomping at the bit to get going....we got a lot of devil worshipin freaks to deal with! Uh oh, my scotch ran out, so time to end the post and go get some more juice.
Council Chairman
|
I'm ready here.
And just for the record..., if you disappear, can we call a victory that someone sacrificed Asmodeous to himself?
That's what Odin did....he made a sacrifice of himself to himself when he hung upside down from a tree for many days (I forget how many, I'm intoxicated at the moment). When he fell from the tree he was granted insight into the sacred runes of magic.
So, there is that possibility...

I sure enjoyed yesterday: had my last test, meaning I won't see the college building for nearly two months.
In one of the Gameday scenarios I'm playing rolls for boons were made ahead of time. My favorite PFS character got the boon I wanted most of all! The GM, however, sometimes disappears for a few days. He decided to do that again during the boss fight, and today's the last day the game can be reported for the Gameday... Bye, mister boon...

OKAY, WE BEGIN AGAIN FOR PHAEDRA AND WILLIAM
After a long drunken sleep, I've come up with what we will do.
1) I will do a short prelude with both Phaedra and William. William was asking me how he would be introduced into (k)Night's Bane and I wrote something last night.
While I think we could do both that and the gameplay at the same time, the more I think about it the less likely and fair that seems since some of your backgrounds will includes the NPCs you are going to meet in a very short order. William's prelude will center on a certain Asmodean priest and his daughter Jeannine (thus your prelude will be similar to Tristain's prelude). I'll focus Phaedra's prelude on a previous interaction with various actors and a certain director (thus your prelude will be similar to Jimmy's). Thus, in a sense, you'll have a connection with the other players from your background. Corey never had a prelude because Corey is just super awesome...just ask him! haha
So, I'll run a prelude for both of you. I would expect the prelude to be concluded in only a few back and forth posts (probably 3-4).
2) I will restart the campaign at the audition, which is sort of the official start to Book 2. Jimmy/Tristain/Corey, you may post again if you like when we restart, or you can wait until we get to the Nightshade Theater, where we meet Tritstain's favorite Asmodean priest and his daughter. The priest and daughter are the same folks from William's prelude.
Okay? Sounds like a plan...here we go.
Council Chairman
|
Sounds good to me.
There's a post in gameplay waiting for you.
Council Chairman
|
Because of the overlapping of your preludes, it would be a good idea for some of you to see what's going on. Normally I don't want people reading spoilers, but this is a bit of an unusual situation since what's going on is basically at the same time of Jimmy's and Tristain's prelude. So, in this case, Phaedra should also read Jimmy's prelude on page 1 of the gameplay thread, as you would have seen those events unfold. Jimmy can read Phaedra's prelude since he was at the same event.
For William, should you decide to follow the priest and his daughter to investigate how she was robbed, post that you follow them and then you can read the Ezren/Tristain prelude on page 1 of the gameplay thread. You can post how you react to those events as well.
I did this to try to get you guys to know each other from previous events, plus I liked both of those preludes so I get to do them again.
Council Chairman
|
Amaya is going to be jealous of Phaedra if she learns her and Thesling did the wild thing. <insert Tone Loc soundtrack here>
Council Chairman
|
Guys, we should finish up these preludes early Sunday, so perhaps 1 more post. We'll move to the audition scene Sunday afternoon.
Council Chairman
|
Okay, the preludes are concluded. Please read the posts I linked as well as some of the follow-up posts to get a sense of what's going on and expected. We will begin at the audition scene. No need for spoilers now that your prelude has concluded.
Furthermore, for the old-timers going back in time at the audition: feel free to post additional things, but there is no need to post what you already did...I will just do that again for you in my posts and those things that you did in the original posts still stand.
The one main difference is that Ezren has had a change of heart about acting...he's just too scared to get on stage. Thus, he remains behind and goes back to his mother's basement where he has his shrine to Abadar.
Once I get back from my morning duties with THIS CRAZY CRITTER and what not, I'll post again. He's at my feet right now driving me nuts.
Council Chairman
|
Okay, the game has restarted...I took the previous audition post and amended it.
William and Pheadra, please make sure you read THIS DISCUSSION POST about how I plan to run this section of the game.
The parts are now as follows:
Corey - Larazod (same as before) and the other leading role besides Thesling.
Jimmy - Baliff (very small part, if you go on vacation I will just post it. Sorry bud.)
Tristain - You are now going to play Drovalid instead. Drovalid is the torturer who has a change of heart.
William - You are going to play Dentris, the sharp tongued wizard who is a father figure to Larazod.
Phaedra - You are going to play Tybain, the paladin who's devotion to the dead god Aroden is the comic relief of the play since anyone who doesn't worship Asmodeus is supposed to be portrayed as an idiot.
The NPC roles:
Thesling -- Haanderthan (the other leading role) and the accuser.
Visbaronetess Delour Aulama -- Chorus/Narrator, who introduces each act [a relatively minor role but extremely safe].
Calseinica Nymmis - Illsandra
I will be sending you your new scripts via PM very soon. Please ask me any questions here. I've also updated the spoiler on the theater roles to make it easier to remember who is who.

The server was down for quite a while, so I'll wait a bit before moving the game in case you guys need to discuss stuff prior to the start of the play.
| Tristain the Chalker |
I'm flying back now after my misadventures at PaizoCon2014. I should be much more active and posty in about 6 hours when I'm home...sitting in SeaTac awaiting my flight home. The downtime took away my time that I hoped to post here.
You can read about the fun here.
