As the party moves forward with Hajar providing the light, they see what is a macabre version of a temple. The stone altar is wide enough for a person to lay down on, the stone strangely sculpted... What emerges is that a temple dedicated to the Mother of Monsters would have a very different sort of worshiping center. You can't really call it a 'birthing place', it's more like a nightmare for young maidens. There's even a second-story balcony for an overflow of patrons.
Among the wooden pews the faithful sat upon during the, er, ceremony are several pieces of junk. In the middle rustles a large, thick-bodied snake. Half of its' skin peels away to the rear of the creature, and its' forked tongue flickers in and out rapidly at the source of the light invading its' nest.
With a hiss, the irritated giant serpent lunges forward at the party of humans.
ROUND ONE
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Monster: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
(Khayal, Bartan, Paige, Hajar, Monster, Yazi)
(Encounter Map updated. Somebody's been messin' with my map, it had you all back on the Main Dome entrance.)
(It's only a Large snake (7 HD - CR 5), not a Huge snake (CR 10 - 14 HD)
It's a constrictor from the pattern on its' back, not a venomous snake. So no poison. Don't get grappled, however.
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan readies a card to throw at the serpent as soon as it gets within 20 feet, also casting acid splash for good measure.
harrow card: 1d51 ⇒ 6 => The Uprising (Chaotic Neutral, Strength)
Matches his alignment perfectly, 19-20/x3 crit
card toss: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 plus acid: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Paige Nightsong |
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 Definately dangerous, but nothing for the likes of us to fear. Do not get too close! It will crush you in it's coils... Paige will save her spells until they are really needed...hold action. Giving others the glory.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal advances cautiously. I'm on my phone now, I'll be able to move my icon in the morning. 20 feet closer then full defense. AC 24 He mimics the movement of the snake, trying to grab its attention.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar casts Shield of Faith on Yazi.
GM_Pace |
Khayal moves cautiously closer, Bartan's playing card files straight and true, hitting the serpent and causing it to hiss and writhe. Paige and Hajar seemingly hold their positions.
The snake moved forward, aggressively attacking the first person in sight: Khayal.
Bite atk: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
But the attack misses on his armor. The snake coils and coils, readying another strike.
(Yazi)
Yazi |
Yazi will turn to give Hajar a happy smile before moving up alongside Khayal to engage the snake.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 - 2 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 + 6 = 16
GM_Pace |
The snake shows remarkable muscle strength as its' entire body flinches as Yazi's greatsword cuts into it.
ROUND TWO
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Monsters: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
(Hajar, Yazi, Monster, Paige, Bartan, Khayal)
Yazi |
"Stab!" Yazi gleefully shout as she shifts to the side of the snake to try and flank it while slashing.
5ft step around it.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 2 = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 + 6 = 15
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar moves forward cautiously. One move action to the edge of its threat range, I dont want to get bitten and face more poison
GM_Pace |
Tongue flickering, the snake turns its' attention away from the fighter and towards the female two-legs stabbing it so neatly.
Bite atk on Yazi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 (Drat!)
Dmg: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 plus [dice=grab]1d20+10[/dice] (beats Yazi's CMD of 19)
The snake bit the woman, quickly wrapping its' coils around her legs and torso.
[dice=Constrict]1d4+7[/dice]
(Paige, Bartan, Khayal)
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan pulls another harrow card and casts a snowball spell. "Leave her alone, serpent! You will be destroyed!"
harrow card: 1d50 ⇒ 44 => The Unicorn (Chaotic Good, Charisma)
19-20 crit!
"Yazi like like a unicorn! Beautiful and a bit strange! You will not have her!"
card toss: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 plus snowball: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6) = 18 cold plus DC 13 Fort save or staggered for 1 round.
OMG CRIT!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 plus snowball: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4) = 11 cold
Damn! Well, maybe since it's grappling it'll confirm!
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal slashea twice with his kukris, hoping to regain the snakes attention.
kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 271d4 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 221d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Paige Nightsong |
Paige tries to charm the snake in to letting Yazi go. Come now, forest fiend...I mean FRIEND. Release her and I'll give you a treat! handle animal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 I doubt it's tough enough for me to waste any spells on. I wonder if Paige should hold the wand of CLW so she has something useful to do in situations like these? She would be a nice little healer...
GM_Pace |
10 percent miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 52
10 percent miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 100
10 percent miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 65
Paige talked while Bartan charged a playing card and darted it at the constrictor snake. The card hit, and froze large parts of the snake, even the trailing skin it had been trying to shed. Yazi found herself feeling the icy coils as Khayal cut off entire sections of the snake's flesh. The killed snake fell off of her in pieces to the floor.
(Out of melee.)
Bartan Harrowborn |
"No snake will squeeze you like that while I'm around, my lady." Bartan bows to Yazi, then winks at her.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar heals Yazi LoH: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
Hajar then channels, healing everyone. Channelx2: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Can we use this place to rest? Hajar asks
Paige Nightsong |
Paige lifts the head of the great snake. Poor thing. What a terrible fate for such a noble animal.
Paige opens it's mouth and inspects it's fangs. She will try to determine if she can make any special antidote potions from it's venom. (Craft Alchemy +8)
Yazi |
Gasping slightly at her returned freedom she stands and brushes the bits of dead snake off of her before walking over to Bartan and kissing him on the cheek. ""No, while you're around I'll be the one squeezing the snake." She wolfishly says before turning to Hajar and giving him a quick kiss on the cheek as well while he has a hand on her.
Paige Nightsong |
Uh, I knew that. er, well I didn't, but Paige proly would have, ahha!
Paige will help everyone explore the room and make sure it is safe. Then rest with Hajar until they are ready to tackle the next thang. Paige could use some spell slots recharged!
GM_Pace |
The rest of the building, although stinking of snake, appears to have been abandoned, rather than destroyed. Apart from the graffiti on two of the walls, the former "temple" is just an empty building now.
(So everyone wants 8 hours rest? How about a sleep/guard schedule then? Just so I can roll for random encounters.)
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal will take mid watch.
Wake me in the middle of the night I'll take the second watch.
Hopefully I'll make my saves when that delay poison spell wears off.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar, Bartan, Yazi, Khayal, Paige
Hajar assists Khayal in barricading the doors.
Paige can you roll some Heal checks, one to assist Khayal on his Fort save, also Khayal should drink the antitoxin before making that save giving him a total +9, and one for long term care so that we can regain 2 ability points overnight instead of just 1. Also, Paige can you memorize lesser restoration, I believe I'll be buying a wand of that asap.
Paige Nightsong |
Paige will makes pancakes in the mownin' too!!
Idiotically, I didn't put any points in heal. But Paige will do her best.
healhelping: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
healhelping: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
healhelping: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
holy cwap.
Upon waking for her watch Paige can feel the elemental power of nature flowing through her body. Her spells glow in her mind, ready to bring their fury upon the enemies of life. Meow she has lesser restoration memorized. For those annoying little kodak moments.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Amazing. No one has any skill points in Heal. So, none of us can make the DC 15 Heal check required and Khayal cannot get the +4 for Poison Care.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Ok, so I was wrong it doesn't have to be made trained. And it looks like Paige's rolls already get us the benefits we need! Thanks for rolling high Paige!
GM_Pace |
Hajar assists Khayal in barricading the doors.
(Doors? There's a 20-foot wide gap in the walls you came through, Hajar. I think as long as you're smart enough to keep the lit light sources in the "square sanctuary" and not the "open foyer", you'll be okay. The still-present snake smell reduces the possible random monsters to 5%.)
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 14
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 59
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 61
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 19
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 48
The rest time of eight hours and a little more passes uneventfully. It is now two hours before sunset on the same day.
Hajar nar Jundi |
We just need Khayal's fort save. Hajar is feeling better, still at -15HP total due to the -6 con, but he is much better. I guess our moving out will depend on that Fort save.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
fort save: 1d20 + 5 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 2 + 4 = 24Oh thank goodness
With the aid of the antitoxin Khayal is able to fend the poison off. Fate was kind tonight.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Awesome. I fixed up Khayal's HP in the encounter map. Let's do this.
Hajar says We still have daylight and we are rested, let us use this time to bring the fight once more against the minions of the Carrion King! and he heads out, but this time not to the Great Dome but one of the outlying buildings Not sure what building we are at currently, but Yazi's earlier suggestion that we clear the grounds first seems more better now. Yep, I just used more better in a sentence. Take that GrammAr.
GM_Pace |
(Back to exploring! Encounter Map updated. You are at the southernmost building of the House of the Beast complex, Building F, Spire of the Serpent. The Great Dome is "G", the building with the lizardfolk that you were told by the slaves is "C", and the building the slaves were hiding in was "A". "D" turned out to be The Three Minarets, which have no ground entrances. "B" is unexplored.)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar heads towards C.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Yeah, wth is everyone? We didn't ALL have power outages today did we?
