Yay I didn't waste my only crit roll of the game!! :)
Bartan, seeing hi last card miraculously fly around a corner, decides not to chance fate quite as much this time. He double-moves up the staircase. He's hoping Yazi will follow him and be his sexy meat-shield.. LOL

GM_Pace |

Hajar: 1d100 ⇒ 89
Hajar: 1d100 ⇒ 25 that's enough
Hajar: 1d100 ⇒ 3
Bartan: 1d100 ⇒ 43 on his first try
Bartan: 1d100 ⇒ 71
Bartan: 1d100 ⇒ 81
The paladin roars and charges up the central stairs, his blood pounding so loud in his ears he fails to notice his feet springing a trap.
Poisoned caltrop spike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Poisoned caltrop spike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
(For this attack, the creature's shield, armor, and deflection bonuses do not count. If the creature is wearing shoes or other footwear, it gets a +2 armor bonus to AC. (Hajar's Touch AC 11+2=13).)
Fortunately the knight of the Dawnflower never went anywhere without his full plate boots. The caltrop spike punctured one boot; however, (If the attack succeeds, the creature has stepped on a caltrop. The caltrop deals 1 point of damage, and the creature's speed is reduced by half because its foot is wounded.) Hajar's charge was still close enough to count.
(Fort save against poison, Hajar.)
Poisoned caltrop spike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 (Touch AC 13+2=15. Missed by 1.)
Apparently Bartan's dust-caked leather boots were also as lucky as their owner when it came to piercing damage.
(I'll teach youse guys & gals to not post out of order sooner or later. :) First the sphinx, now this. Go, Khayal! Hits/misses and monsters on the monsters' turn.)

Paige Nightsong |

Wow,I actually had no idea we were trying to post in strict init order! Glad i'm a bird just now:)
Paige begins her next move, but not before Khayal and the monsters are able to ????...TO BE CONTINUED.

![]() |

He's hoping Yazi will follow him and be his sexy meat-shield.. LOL
Of course!... Just as long as he laps up any wounds she gets :3
@DM: No... She gave him to Shirin and Khayal remember?

GM_Pace |

Wow,I actually had no idea we were trying to post in strict init order! Glad i'm a bird just now:)
(It's not strict, but I'm trying to give the first in line their chance before moving on to the next in line.)
(Yazi: hmmmm....we'll let Khayal make the call on Doc then. A good hunting dog.)

Hajar nar Jundi |

I was attempting to make combat move quickly and not take a bunch of extra time waiting on 1 person to post. Teaches me. Also, you don't have to resolve actions in the order they are posted. You can resolve them in initiative order. I posted my actions so you wouldn't need to wait on me when you were ready to recap the round.

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Khayal moves to get up the stairway. Unable to get a swing off and probably provoking two attacks of opportunity. He lets forth no battle cry but has the slightest of smiles cross his face.
Doc is a good hunting dog but right now he is enjoying retirement and a juicy red steak back with Shirin.

GM_Pace |

(Doc's being better fed and treated than most of us, it seems. :) )
Khayal goes up the stairs.
Khayal: 1d100 ⇒ 58
Khayal: 1d100 ⇒ 89
Khayal: 1d100 ⇒ 19 got him
Poisoned caltrop spike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
And gets nailed on his foot by a caltop near the upper level. (The caltrop deals 1 point of damage, and the creature's speed is reduced by half because its foot is wounded.)
(Fort save against poison, Khayal.)
The startled gnolls (#2,3), still with longbows in hand (and thus no AoOs) step back from the fighter (5 ft), dropping their bows, and drawing their battleaxes. (But they can't attack, no reach.)
The rearmost gnoll (#6) took off, his tongue lagging as he barked out a shout. He threw open the double doors.
"Carrion Guard! Carrion Guard!
The final two (#4,5) took another shot at the armored human coming up the center (Hajar).
Longbow atk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Longbow atk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 (Send these guys to archery class!)
Disgusted, they too dropped their bows for their well-worn battleaxes.
Meanwhile, Hajar charged the farther group, only to hit the other hidden caltrops in the trapped stairs. Tempest's blade emerged through the gnoll's back and armor a scant second later. (He's dead, Jim. No AoO from the other gnolls, too far away.)
Bartan ran up the stairs.
(Paige, Yazi.)
(Sorry for making everyone zoom in 200x to see their characters. It's a big map.)
(Encounter Map updated, I put an itty-bitty blood drop on the icons of those affected by the caltrops.)

Hajar nar Jundi |

Forgot my earlier Fort save. Fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Paige Nightsong |

This is still round 1, right? Do I really have actions? Swooping in over the heads of the gnollish caltrip laying bastards, Paige circles within the room behind them how high is my ceiling anyway? map updated. On the flyby the largest of her tailfeathers falls gently (flavor for touch) upon Khayal's head (since he took the most damage) and casts Delay Poison

![]() |

Seeing Khayal and Hajar suffer ill effects as they moved about Yazi keeps an eye out while moving with them.
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18
Watchin for caltrops I guess.

GM_Pace |

So Paige the owl (speed 80 ft.) casts delay poison (5 hours, doesn't cure any damage but prevents the need for Fort saves) on Khayal.
You see that the even-numbered steps are not stone, but some kind of leathery covering painted and weathered to look like stone. The caltrops are hidden under every other step.
By moving at half speed, you can avoid the trap. By using a longspear or other pointy object to slice the leather and expose the caltops (attack is like hitting a square, DC 5), you can disable the trap.
All three staircases - left, center, right - have been trapped in this fashion. The long-legged gnolls have no problem leaping over every other stair.
The poison used on the caltrops is a different check.
ROUND THREE
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Monsters: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
(Khayal, Hajar, Bartan, Paige, Monsters, Yazi)
(Hajar will need to make another Fort save vs. poison.)

Hajar nar Jundi |

Fort: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Khayal five foot steps and swings his Kukris into the nearest Gnoll.
Kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 231d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Confirm: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 241d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Thank you for the Delay Poison, hopefully we can find so the antidote. I worry for my Palidan friend though. The poison is tough.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar moves slowly towards the nearest gnoll, trying not to step on another poisoned Caltrop.
Tempest: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 Damage: 2d4 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 11 + (6) = 23

Bartan Harrowborn |

Feeling the caltrops under his feet, Bartan will stop moving for fear of stepping on more of them and hurting himself. He will cast another spell and toss a card at the gnoll currently attacking Hajar.
harrow card: 1d53 ⇒ 28 => The Hidden Truth (Lawful Good, Intelligence)
Does not match his alignment.
card toss: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 plus chill touch: 1d6 ⇒ 4 negative energy and DC 13 Fort save or 1 Str damage.

Paige Nightsong |

Paige descends, transforming back into a young women in a swirl of magical mist, just as she touches the ground. Pointing a finger at the Gnoll in the doorway to the east, Paige walks toward him unafraid. Her eyes burn with electric energy as she unleashes an Arc of Lightening at the creature from her outstretched fingers. Lightening arc (sp), from Cloud/Air Domain. ranged touch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 causes 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 electric damage

GM_Pace |

1d6 ⇒ 6 rounds
1d6 ⇒ 3 number
1d6 ⇒ 3 really?
Hajar's second round of unknown poison, CON damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
(Having to mix a 3.5 book and the Pathfinder PRD here. Keep saving until you meet DC 18, Hajar. Four more chances.)
Khayal sliced the next gnoll (#3) into multiple pieces, the blood spraying everywhere. Hajar does the same (#2), albeit with a single stroke, instead of the fighter's twin blades. Bartan's habit of following up a kill with a charged Harrow card continued, just in case the target had unknowable constitution.
Paige's lightning bolt fried some of the fur off of the gnoll at the doorway (#6), causing the beast-man to yelp and jump in pain. Angrily the creature brandished it's battleaxe and charged at the female.
"Spellcasting #!@&(%! Feel Rovagug's might!"
Battleaxe atk on Paige, charge: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
The last gnoll (#5) went to the aid of the only other still-living hyena-man.
"The Unchosen will have fun with you, #!@&(%!"
Battleaxe atk on Paige, charge, flank: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 (not good enough)
The second battleaxe didn't even come close to the druid.
(Yazi.)

![]() |

Yazi loudly cursed herself as she made her way up the stairs and avoiding the caltrops trap. She wanted nothing more than to rush into the slaughter but after seeing the effect it had on Hajar she restrained herself as much as possible and simply moved up to the others.

GM_Pace |

ROUND FOUR
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Monsters: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
(Khayal, Bartan, Monsters, Hajar, Yazi, Paige.)
(I tell ya, Khayal's initiative bonuses are really showing.)

Paige Nightsong |

Crinckling her nose at the Axe swinging Gnoll Paige says Silly little furry ball. Don't you know your evil god is but a pawn on nature's stage! I've brought a few friends with me here, who would like nothing more than to balance your nasty evil out. wow, I must be off my RP game tonight *shrug*

Hajar nar Jundi |

Holy hell. Potential 6d6 of Con damage at DC 18....that is extremely deadly.
Fortitude: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 Joy. Con Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Well guys, it was really nice gaming with you.

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Khayal takes a five foot step up and cuts once more in to gnoll flesh.
Kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
No way!
confirm: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 181d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
confirm: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 201d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
I wish one of those 20s could be Hajar's fort save.
Landing a blow on either side of the neck Khayal digs into the arteries supplying the brain.

Paige Nightsong |

GM I technically didn't have delay poison prepared. But I take your discussion thread comment to mean I can use spell slots for it in this situation? Due to my druid-ess-ness? If so... As she sees Hajar rapidly weakening Paige realizes he too must have taken poison. She 5 ft steps east (map updated) and reaches out to touch her weakening friend. Rovagug's venom shall not take you this day! May the breath of creation fill you again with strength... Casting Delay Poison. 5 hours. one second level spell slots left. If GM allows this.

Bartan Harrowborn |

Seeing Khayal eviscerate one gnoll, Bartan will throw a card at the other (with cover from Paige).
harrow card: 1d52 ⇒ 43 => The Lost (Chaotic Evil, Wisdom)
Matches on one axis, 19-20 crit
card toss: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 8 - 4 = 13
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 plus chill touch: 1d6 ⇒ 1 negative energy
Unfortunately, having to throw around Paige kills his accuracy.

GM_Pace |

Khayal continued his one-man-genocide of the gnoll race; his target (#6) didn't even have a chance as it lost limbs and major organs to the fighter's overly large knives.
(Druids cast spontaneous summon nature's ally spells, not healing spells, Paige. What's done is done with Khayal, but this challenge is defeatable. I was hoping you'd have ranks in Heal and someone would have a healer's kit.)
(Somebody cast resistance on Hajar, at least! Or search the bodies, hint hint.)
Bartan's tossed card slid past the gnoll attacking Paige without touching the creature. The last gnoll (#5) takes a look at the humans surrounding it, and runs towards the doors. (AoO, Hajar.)
(Hajar, Yazi, Paige (redo?))

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar swipes at the Gnoll as it flees Tempest: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22Damage: 2d4 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 11 + (2) = 19
Fort vs Poison: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 Con Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Been a pleasure guys. 0 Con left. I guess I learned my lesson about posting out of order.

Paige Nightsong |

Paige redo - and therefore BEFORE hajar's fort save: searching the dead Gnoll next to Hajar frantically taking AoO if needed Surely these bastards would not have occupied this space without some kind of antidote nearby! Everyone, help me! I don't think even if I find one that I have enough action economy left to pour it down my paladin's throat before he's toast. Paige begins to sob, realizing the gravity of the situation. If only I had dropped a feather on Hajar as well, instead of trying to electrocute a gnoll!

Paige Nightsong |

Krikey mates... I'm not opposed to Deus Ex like that from a merciful GM in this case. I'm going to play it like GM calls it till I hear otherwise:)
Seeing Hajar stabilize as she pours the antidote into his mouth Paige says Friends, I have only adventured with you all briefly, but I can see that this place is dangerous. We may not be prepared. Perhapse we should retreat, call upon Master Bartan's harrow deck, and I could consult the runes. We need a plan. And Hajar needs to recover!

![]() |

"Thank you, oh svelte deliverer of the obvious." Yazi immediately quips, trying to use sarcasm to hide her annoyance and worry but not quite succeeding.

Bartan Harrowborn |

"Agreed. We will need to attempt this when we are more well-prepared."
Bartan offers to help carry Hajar's limp frame, carefully stepping around the caltrops this time.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Ok, so I guess Hajar isn't dead. Just really, really weakened. (@6 Con and 27 total HP.)
Their poison was most deadly.. Hajar croaks, his normally bronze skin a sickly grey.
Are we out of combat?

Paige Nightsong |

I cannot become a bird again until tomorrow. So I won't be much help finding a safe hiding spot on the mountain for us. We will have to rely on Yazi's keen eyes. But I will try to help...survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18, perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
