Khayal Bin Haleen |

Khayal lifts his kukri, charging one of the shadows on the edge of Hajar's light.
His kukri thirsts for the blood of gnolls as he brings it down on the closest one.
kukri: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 2 = 341d4 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 6
miss chance re roll with reliable strike: 1d100 ⇒ 22As best I can tell I am in dim light being outside 20 feet but within 40 feet of Hajar's light spell. That would grant concealment for a 20% miss chance.
crit confirm: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 12 + 2 = 171d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Without armor my ac is 15, 13 on the charge

![]() |

Paige shreaks in proper Owl fashion. How fearsome she sounds.
Have you seen My cousin Vinnie? That shriek is horrifying.
The gnolls within range now, Yazi will charge the one engaged with Khayal and Hajar.
Charge: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 2 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 6) + 4 = 14

GM_Pace |

(Khayal, Hajar has light on Tempest, so there's no miss chance due to lack of light.)
Hajar's weapon hit the gnoll (#3) before it could bring up its' battleaxe, and Khayal's kukris finished the job. There was nothing left for Yazi, so she hit the nearby gnoll (#2), and it fell, as well.
ROUND FOUR
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Amir: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Monsters: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
(Khayal, Amir, Hajar, Bartan, Yazi, Monsters, Paige)

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar continues his assault on the nearest Gnoll Tempest: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 Tempest: 2d4 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 11 + (2) = 17

![]() |

Yazi will move up and attack Hajar's gnoll.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10
And is obviously distracted by the sexy holy man.

Bartan Harrowborn |

Bartan moves forward, drawing the second-to-last card from his original harrow deck.
harrow card: 1d2 ⇒ 2 => The Rakshasa (Lawful Evil, Intelligence)
No alignment match
He then charges it up with arcane energy and releases it at the closest gnoll (marked with an orange arrow for clarity).
card toss: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 plus chill touch: 1d6 ⇒ 6 negative energy

Khayal Bin Haleen |

I had posted before he moved :)
Khayal moves to one of the remaining gnolls
reflex vs entangle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 fail so entangled. Thankfully, right next to an enemy.
kukri: 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 12 - 2 = 131d4 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
concealment : 1d100 ⇒ 54

GM_Pace |

Khayal went in amongst the roots Paige-the-owl had raised. The gnoll tried to block with its' battleaxe, but it was still entangled, the fighter cut him down with ease. Bartan's playing card hit a corpse as it fell. Hajar also swiftly dealt with the gnoll coming off of the rocky ridge to the north, leaving nothing for Yazi's greatsword.
The last gnoll standing (#4) saw all this, and turned away, running as fast up the ridge as its' legs could take it. (Double move = single move, does not get it out of the radius this turn.) The gnoll still on its' back (#5) tried to crawl away, trailing blood. (5-foot crawl)
(Paige)

Paige Nightsong |

Paige comes down in the center of the ring of entangled roots, changed shape to human form and dispelling the druid-ish magic. Obviously we are back in Gnoll country. We must be getting close.

ROUND FIVE
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Amir: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Monsters: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
(Khayal, Paige, Bartan, Monsters, Amir, Yazi, Hajar.)

Bartan Harrowborn |

Bartan moves around the circle of entanglement, then pulls out the last harrow card from his original deck, imbues it with another touch attack from his chill touch spell, and tosses it.
The Vision (Chaotic Neutral, Intelligence) Matches his alignment on BOTH axes, 19-20/x3 crit. Let's hope for a crit on this one!
card toss: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 plus chill touch: 1d6 ⇒ 1 negative energy
No crit chance. And a bad spell damage roll. :(

Khayal Bin Haleen |

With the roots dismissed Khayal charges the fleeing gnoll. kukri: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 2 = 341d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
confirm: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 2 = 151d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 86
Well it did not confirm

Hajar nar Jundi |

If any of the creatures remains alive during Hajar's turn, he will spare its life in order to question it.
If it needs healing
LoH: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar sheathes Tempest and speaks in the Gnollish tongue I am Hajar nar Jundi, Abbot Protector of Kelmerane and Blessed Servant of Sarenrae. You will tell me your name, and how you came to attack us this night.
If you want to make a Diplomacy roll my bonus is +11

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar responds in Gnollish The mercy of Sarenrae shines upon you Gnoll. Did you know of our coming? Or did you happen upon us?

Hajar nar Jundi |

In Gnollish "You follow the Rough Beast also? " Hajar says, an edge to his voice.
-Posted with Wayfinder

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar says, in the Common Tongue All beings are capable of redemption and reflection. This one will have that chance too.
In Gnollish Hajar says Go with the Light of Sarenrae, go far from the Carrion King and his worship of the Rough Beast. Kelmerane will take you, if you prove you are not a threat. Do not cross paths with us again unless you come in peace.
And Hajar lets the Gnoll go.
Didn't roll Sense Motive because it didn't matter, the only way that Hajar was executing the Gnoll on the spot is if he were a True Believer. Hajar doesn't think that he is, not with how he answered.

![]() |

Yazi waves at the gnoll with a strum of her fingers while wearing a fierce grin. Her intent towards the gnoll should he try anything underhanded painfully obvious.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Continue on...What other choice is there?

Khayal Bin Haleen |

Underway as before.
Hopefully next time Khayal is wearing his armor. Although Hajar did a pretty good job of not being hit.

Paige Nightsong |

sense motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 That gnoll may indeed reform, but only until the next good deal comes along. You cannot expect any creature to act other than it's nature. Paige continues on with her friends, helping wherever she can. She carves spiral shapes in the dust with a stick as they travel along. The balance of the labyrinths will protect us. As in, so out. As up so down. As wide so deep.
Cryptic @ss druids. Whachagonnado. Yazi, you stay back!

GM_Pace |

1d100 ⇒ 46
Traveling along, the Pale River finally comes to a split at the foot of Pale Mountain. You've been going uphill all this time. Now you have a choice: left or right?
(Everybody that can roll Survival for tracking should. Same for Perception. Oh, and by the way, you're in mountainous terrain now, not just desert, and I should have had you rolling DC 17 Fort saves daily to avoid becoming fatigued. In the mountains like these it's just a little cooler, but still stark in conditions.)
Pale Mountain Region map updated.
Faint gnoll tracks lead left, clock-wise around the mountain. The other way is blank.
The close ridges and smaller mountains to the left are perfect ambush kill-boxes. To the right, or counter-clockwise, the river is wider, and more open. Of course, more open means spotted more easily, too.

![]() |

Panting that she was, mind you, attributing to lack of traveling over the past year and the change in terrain rather than Bartan due to principle she nontheless manages to, or perhaps because of her need to rest more every so often, to spot a few things about their surroundings. "Okay, so we got Fuzzy tracks going to our left into the ridges, definitely trapped all to Gormuz and back. The right looks okay though... Though it's open and a rise in the river could have easily covered any tracks, or they might even have barges."

Khayal Bin Haleen |

fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Good eye Yazi, I prefer to fight in the open anyway. What do you guys think.

Bartan Harrowborn |

"If there are traps in the left direction, I agree we should go right. Yazi my dear, lead the way."

![]() |

"You keep giving me commands like that and I'll have to buy myself a collar and leash." she says with a grin, half-chuckiling as she moves to the right.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hajar shakes his head at the two, but the flat and open plain sounds like the best idea to him also.
Moving on!

GM_Pace |

As you stare at the fork in the river, you realize you're going to have to ford across, mules and all.
(Handle Animal and Survival checks, please. You can assist the highest score. If Amir was here he'd have to tell the camel to giddyap.)
(For those interested, I'm keeping Amir as GMPC...he'll hold the cart and mules while you go into the House of the Beast.)

![]() |

Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Yazi was good when it came to dealing with dogs, cats, and birds. Equines... Not so much.
