A swarm of centipedes is CR 4 so the dozens of little buggers is probably better for us. I didn't prep any AOE spells except color spray which the centipedes are immune to.
Yup. What I'm saying, though, is they act both as a swarm and as individuals, whichever is worse, at any given time.
I have their stats already set out, and will be handling the GM side of that. Effectively: treat them as whichever enemy is more advantageous to you at any given moment.
They're not immune to the things swarms are immune to, but they are vulnerable in the way swarms are; they have a reach of 0 (and so have to enter your square to attack) like swarms, but have to make an attack roll to hit. That sort of thing. It's actually a very interesting (and substantial) nerf, mechanically, and I kind of like it. Serendipitous discovery by way of pretty significant GM mistake.

Character sheet actually finished/fixed. Fixed up some math errors. FYI she has fewer potions of CLW than I originally said but she still has the wand of CLW and the chirurgeon's kit.

Instead of nocking another arrow on her shortbow, which is what she was fairly certain she attacked,
You know that part earlier where I said that I can make mistakes? Oops.
I read the original post, but then saw "1d4" and thought, "dagger" (like a moron) and thus typed that in. Outside of my rather goofy mistake, everything else continues as normal. Sorry! You are correct: you used your shortbow. In my defense, though, I'm summing up eleven character actions! Will try to be more careful in the future. Thanks!

No, the centipedes are immune to mind-affecting effects because they are vermin and vermin are naturally immune. Whether or not they are a swarm doesn't matter. Can't fool something that can't think.

Did... did I say otherwise?
I think you're misunderstanding me.
Yup. What I'm saying, though, is they act both as a swarm and as individuals, whichever is worse, at any given time.

I don't see anywhere I denied them being immune to mind-affecting. In fact, I agreed with that at first with the "Yup."
I mentioned immunities because I'm explaining the nature of swarms and these guys, and the fact that they act as the most vulnerable wherever it's convenient for you; responding to the, "A swarm of centipedes is CR 4 so the dozens of little buggers is probably better for us." part.
In other words, they're not immune to weapon damage (as noted in their entry, they're (individually) subject to flanking, they can be staggered, dying, and (individually) grappled (but not tripped because they're centipedes), are (individually) subject to effects that target individual creatures (because they're being treated as individual creatures).
But I figured that's a lot of words to just say, "they're not immune to the things swarms are immune to", which is why I said the other thing.
In other words: you can attack it, probably with that thing, except for the base creature restrictions (such as normal vermin immunity).
:D
GM Tacticslion
I see now. I inferred incorrectly that you thought that as a swarm they were immune but weren't immune individually because of the language in the last paragraph. My mistake.
Not a problem! Communication through any medium is often fraught with peril. It's always good to check. Heaven knows I can make mistakes, as I've just proven twice, recently. :D

Much cheers ta' every one! (^_^)

Wild Surge? I didn't know I could do that...or did I?
You did not do that - at least not on purpose. The environment did that to your spell. You now have a lot of pretty gem-fragments scattered all around the floor.
EDIT: Weird. This post comes off as kind of stuffy and arrogant. I... don't mean it that way! I really don't know how to change the tone. Uh... read it with a smile, happy voice, and not as some kind of pedantic know-it-all (despite my proclivity toward that particular style)? :D
GM Tacticslion
Dijiron, you need to make an attack roll. Also, being on Tiktik lets you move 40 ft.
Eris, Dijiron is correct, you need to roll to confirm your critical.
EDIT: If neither of you do before the turn goes up, it's not too much of a worry. I'll roll for you (this time, though I'd appreciate it in the future if I didn't have to! :D) and use that result.

I forgot I was on the donkey. So that means I'm at the base of the tower and here is my attack roll:
Ray of Frost Touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage if it hits: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Edit: Wow nevermind. :P

Hopefully, Vitreous and Stone will post before 24 hours have passed. If not, I'll likely update the world anyway. I really need to PM Stone - we haven't heard from him in a bit, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to run both him and the enemies consistently. Anyone know what or how he's doing lately? I do hope he's okay.

Looks he last posted a question on Thursday (I didn't check to see if he was answered or not) and posted under his main alias elsewhere on Friday. Which really is not that long ago--in any other game I probably wouldn't even presume the disappearance so far unusual. This is an unusual PBP for this board for how fast paced it is (which is not a criticism, just taking note)--largely because it has so many people in it (that is not a criticism either). My guess is he simply had a busy weekend, however if he does not post soon I would send him a PM and otherwise see what's up.
Ceru
On another note, just want to say the positioning info in this post was really helpful.

I agree! That was a very good post for helping to visualize the situation.
GM Tacticslion
Glad the positioning-thing helped! I'll see if I can get a different map up, soon.
You're correct in the fast-pace... that's partially due to the large number of players, but I also am trying to get one round/day... I'd kind of like to finish our first combat before I leave my easy-access home computer for a week...
(I... cannot imagine what this will be like with an iPad. :/)
Alright! Round fully updated!
Layla the Twin-Blade
Yeah, Layla's getting a bit bossy ... This assistant squad leadership seems to be going to her head ... Or maybe she's just focused on the practicalities of survival. Anyway, feel free to obey her or ignore her at your character's whims. :)

I agree with you on that. But people disappearing around the weekends is not uncommon, which was what I was really getting at.

You are entirely correct. ^-^
I was just explaining. (What? I worry. I'm a father! I'm supposed to worry! ... about people... I've never met... You don't know! Stop looking at meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) :D

Will be able to manage short posts, though possibly seemingly sporadic.

*Twirls, gives a little bow* (tehehe!) ~-^
If the group doesn't mind me sharing, this was the music playing in my head as I read the introduction to our first encounter, as the storm was raging and we desperately were riding to the shelter of High Tower.
Here's to the GM for running an epic game! (With eleven players, no less). ^_^
Go gob smash one!! Yiiihehe!!

Thanks for the update!
So that everyone's aware, starting now, my own posting may look less... polished than it does currently. For the next six days (give or take) I will be out of town, and thus relying on my iPad to post. While I've made a copy of the basic style of post for a full-round update, I don't know how smoothly that will work out on an iPad... but I'm going to try!
It also looks like this encounter is just about over... heh. "Looks like." Hahah! I'm so funny! (No, but seriously, it totally does.)

Aww! Thanks! I appreciate it! The same to you guys! This is your first encounter! Hm... how am I going to top it?!?
(A little free behind the scenes: I honestly didn't know if you guys would be outside long enough to experience the full effects of the storm. I figured you might see some of 'em, but getting all the way to round five... I gotta say, you're pretty gutsy, over-all! Well done! You may have just overstepped your "safety"* zone, though.)
* Yes. That was the safety zone. No, it didn't mean that you were safe, just that you were in less danger than before. Yes, there is a second "safety zone". That's anything that's "not in the blue haze", at which point... well, it's best not to dwell on that sort of thing. o.o
Now, if everyone successfully comes in out of the storm (and gets <redacted for ooc spoilers!> then I can stop looking up some of those random generators... "some" of those random generators being the key word... eheheheheh... 0:D
Go Gob Smash One!
Ceru
A clarification on my last action: I went back outside, standing at the edge of the entrance, to cover Eris, Beylinda, et al's approach. So for current position. I accomplished little, but it affects where I should be standing.
I can go along with what you posted and find myself teleported back within the room, but just FYI. I was posting hastily and probably wasn't clear enough.
GM Tacticslion
Also, it seems you guys are afraid of the storm? Really? Gooooooooooooood! >:D
(Though it seems that soon I will put away these toys... good-bye fair anarchy. You may soon-have-been... fascinating. Also fun. And surprising. It's also cool that you guys are having fun enough that you want to see what would happen, but just aren't sure if you're willing to risk it. That... seems like a good balance, I think. Or at least I hope!)
:)
Oh, yeah! I almost forgot to mention: it's cute that you guys think you know what the dice are for... And who knows?* You might be correct? :P ;D
* Hint: Me. I know. You guys definitely don't, though it's always fun to see you guess. Muwahahahahahah! 0:)
GM Tacticslion
I forgot to mention! In addition to the effects of haste, you each gain a single additional action of any kind this round: standard, move, etc (not a full-round action).
Shaedo, maintaining this effect is a full-round action for you... though you still gain one additional action.
Also, based off of Stone's explanations and statements, as well as your own Spellcraft checks, you realize that singing or dancing to the "We Are Gob Smash" chant strengthens your ability and resolve somehow... (+2 morale bonus to attack/damage/skill checks).
This information is new this round: it is Beylinda and Eris both who first figure this out.
EDIT: Layla, the storm plus the character's heavy armor make it impossible to tell for sure. Oh, and with all the spitting hissing going on and the melting of things and creatures you're pretty glad that you have acid-resistant armor at present.

Hey, we totally understand! After all, my update was, like, two or three hours late...
We'll see how everyone else is doing in terms of getting their rounds in.
Also, Ceru, as described by you, you're in the outer cave (having just been sweeping away debris from the ramp), not the enormous room, unless you wish to clarify something differently. That means that the door you're looking at is the outer one you unlocked? Just making sure we're on the same page... you could head inside and look around there, too. Or you could cast your spell to look at the outer door (it's opened, so you wouldn't read it inside), then go inside to read the others/the walls, too. Lacking other input, that's probably how I'll take what you're saying. Sound good?
Dijiron
Wow, two natural 1 linguistics checks from two different linguists in a row ... It really is goblin gobbledygook-g%@&!
I know! I was feeling all proud because I was gonna use my awesome wizardy knowledge but I just failed instead. :(
Shaedo
Considering the amazing boost my performance is giving everyone, I see it as entirely fair that it takes a full-round to maintain.
I have no idea whether my guess about the dragon's identity is correct or not, but in case it is, Shaedo has been suspecting it for a while.
Oh, and the pun, drag'n the dragon person- totally intended!
(Got another for around the corner, when we get to close the door. Tehehe!)
Besties to all! ^-^
GM Tacticslion
Loved the pun. It's cute that you guys think it'll answer more questions than it'll raise! :D Hahahah! "Answer!"
Oh man, that's a good one! Hoooooooooo!
(Obviously you guys haven't gamed with me before*...)
* Just to be clear, there are answers to be had! and I don't shift 'em around like some GMs to "preserve the mystery": if you guys guess well, you guess well! ... it's just not likely to answer more questions than it raises. For whatever reason, that kind of plotting is easier for me to come up with than more straightforward concepts. I dunno: I warned you it'd be weird! Or at least I am! :D
