I forgot the Tyrant has an Orb of Dragonkind. If he survives with that then he’s still a huge threat and could kill tens of thousands and destroy cities. We should bring the bomb with us and try to take him down.
Kraygan (and his player) wants to stare the Tyrant in the eye before going down in a blaze of glory.

"You all might want to step back a ways and let me and the Yaktender handle this," Wren says to the party, encouraging the party to go far away.
Wren would love to care enough to take care is trying to disarm the bomb, but the truth he doesn't care enough if were to accidentally set it off or not.
He's willing to take his time, but not enough to really make sure about things.
Take 10 Disable Devices to aid Farin's disables: 31.
They will put the bomb in the bag of holding.

Oops. Moving this to the gameplay thread. Doy. That's what I get for posting on a muni train.

Hey all! Just checking in.
Last day of school was last Friday and I should be finished planting beans in the next few days. I see I've missed quite a bit but hopefully by the end of the week I can jump back in and you guys can catch me back up.
Thanks and I'll see you all soon!

![]() |

Yay! Welcome Back Jorgan :)

![]() |

Anyone hear from Alysendra? Otherwise I'll DMPC in the morning.

Jorgan Steelkeg |

Sorry guys, I lied.
I thought I would have time to catch up but then we started nitrogen application on the popcorn and well... I just put in a 68 hour week. And I even got off early today on account of rain but have spent the whole night getting ready for our small produce farm's first farmers' market tomorrow morning.
It's been a crazy month. I'll jump back in as soon as things die down. Hopefully next week will be slower. I've been doing 50-60 hours a week since the second week of April...

Jorgan Steelkeg |

Finally a week where I'll end up working fewer than 50 hours!
Ok, I'd really like to jump back in to the game. I feel bad that I've missed so much.
I think I'll have time later today to skim through the posts that I've missed but could someone help me out with a quick summary of what's gone on in my absence?
Also, GM Tyr: can you work Jorgan back in so I'm not just popping out of thin air without speaking for a long time?
Glad to be back and excited to be on the final leg of this long journey!

![]() |

Not really sure where you dropped off, but we got to the volcano opening, and the cloud fortress was about to sail off. We climbed up some large anchor chains, and into the lower tunnels of the cloud complex. Just starting to explore the more "civilized" areas, and had a few run ins. I think they all know we are here now.

Jorgan Steelkeg |

Ok, I skimmed through the posts I missed and I think I caught up.
Sheesh, nearly 6 weeks! I think that's my biggest absence from PbP since I started so many years ago. Really really sorry about that! I'll try not to disappear for quite so long again, although no promises this fall during harvest season. Until then I'll try my best not to miss more than a day here and there. I just don't get on the computer much in the summer.

![]() |

We should be very near the end if not completed come Fall timeframe. :)

Hey guys, sorry to have started something and then disappeared - I accidentally helped thwart a child abduction at the park over the weekend, and I haven't been able to get back to posting. Should be back soon. Bot Alysendra - she wants to try and find friends who will show us where the Storm Tyrant is, and then go there and deal with him, but she'll also follow along if everyone else disagrees with that plan.

Torgan Steelkeg |

The Storm Tyrant needs to meet Gozreh, his maker! That bastard has lived for too long!

![]() |

Sounds good Alysendra. Take the time you need.
@Torgan- The Storm Tyrant is still trying to take a few lives with him. :)

Jorgan Steelkeg |

Hey guys! I'll jump back in as soon as I can! Family visited from out of town this week.

Jorgan Steelkeg |

I'll be out for a few days.
Selling at the farmer's market tomorrow morning then camping through Monday so I'll be offline for a while.
School starts back up on the 13th. I'm the opposite of most teachers. I actually get less busy when school starts back up, haha.

Alysendra |

Band is playing a festival in the middle of nowhere, so I'll likely be off-grid until late Sunday-early Monday. Sorry, bad timing... will try and check in if we can get wifi.
Some things Alysendra would likely do while invisible:
* summon monster V to get 1d4+1 lantern archons to go shoot up the dragon repeatedly (touch AC, no DR), coupled with quickened ironskin on myself. The archons will stay on the far side of the dragon from most of the party, and spread out to a breath can't get them all.
* blade barrier to interfere with the dragon's movement, coupled with quickened shield of faith on myself
* blessing of fervor
* heal or channel to keep everyone alive. Purifying Channel feat means the storm tyrant takes the same amount in fire damage plus is dazzled for 1 round; Will save DC 17 for half damage and no dazzle. (Probably moot, but you never know)
If break enchantment will work on Kraygan, I have a scroll.
Once attacking is required, I will throw the starknife at the giant using Desna's fighting style (see stat block for attacks). Blinkback belt. Then Penthae will make me invisible again on her turn.
If I'm feeling lucky, fleshworm infestation or boneshatter on the giant.
Pentahe will keep bard song up, and will either make me invisible (first priority) or fly around healing people.

Someone mind working Jorgan's actions. I don't mind GMPC'ing on normal fights, but usually not on something this big. I would rather it be a group consensus in case something bad were to happen.

![]() |

Welcome back everyone. That was one heck of a blackout! I actually had to work at work...

Jorgan Steelkeg |

I don't know about you guys, but the site is still down about every other time I try to check.

![]() |

Anyone hear from Alysendra? If nothing by tonight I'll attempt to DMPC

I am going to be travelling Sept 20-23. I might occasionally get to check in and post an update, but for the most part I will not be online. Please feel free to bot me using whatever disposable resources I have.

![]() |

Sounds good. Enjoy your trip Farin!

Jorgan Steelkeg |

By the way...
In addition to teaching and our produce business, harvest on our grain farm started this past week. I haven't been called in to help yet but I'm sure it's coming soon.
So if I disappear abruptly know that it's just that time of year again for me.
On the bright side, only two more weekends left for the farmers' market and we made enough in our first year to put up a greenhouse, so that's fun. But also has been keeping me even busier.

Kraygan Steelkeg |

As someone who just moved to a rural farming area in the Midwest I’m always interested in your updates Mike. What are your homestead/farming plans after fall harvest?

Jorgan Steelkeg |

Well, our family has been farming for generations since before my great-grandparents moved over from Poland so there's a lot going on. Let the novel commence.
We have a 6000+ acre grain farm that grows popcorn, field corn, and soybeans. We used to grow seed corn but have gotten out of that. We also used to be primarily a dairy farm until 2000 when we either had to double our herd or get out so we decided to get out and focus on grain instead. We still used the pasture ground to raise about 200 heifers for another nearby dairy though. This is all run by my dad, two uncles, and two cousins, with me helping out part time (really full time in the summer when I'm not teaching).
And then on our personal homestead we just started this year with what I would consider just a freaking huge garden (a couple hundred pepper plants, a few dozen watermelons, for example). We've been taking all that to the local farmers' market on Saturdays and have been successful enough to afford a fairly large greenhouse that I've been building a few hours at a time here and there.
Next year we plan to put out over an acre of vegetables (so I think we've surpassed the 'garden' term) and start a CSA ("Community Supported Agriculture") subscription service. It'll be similar to Blue Apron or one of those services, but more like a "Vegetable of the Week" club or something. Pay $X up front at the beginning of the season to help us buy seeds, irrigation supplies, etc, and we deliver to you a box of fresh produce every week until the end of the season. And it'll include recipes and tips on how to use things that aren't so common (like turnips, for example); part of the appeal is to get you to try new foods you've never had before or at least cook them in a different way. My wife teaches Nutrition and Wellness and loves to cook so I do the growing and she does the marketing for that type of stuff.
We're also expanding into pork next year. We'll be selling half- and whole-hogs directly to consumers with customized butchering available. We were going to start that this year but just got too busy. We might also be taking some of our pork products to the farmers' market too but there's already two pork people in that small market so we'll see about that.
Oh, and we're getting laying chickens.
And if the CSA subscriptions work out next year, we'll potentially add some hydroponics or aquaponics systems to our greenhouse to grow certain crops (like lettuce) all-year round so we can offer a service through the winter as well (like a fresh-salad-every-week type of subscription service).
The TL;DR is that this whole homestead/direct-to-consumer thing is totally new and different for us and there's a lot going on but honestly I like this type of farming better than the large grain farming the previous generation has been doing. I've always been a gardener and there's a lot of room for expansion for this type of thing in the local market.
We don't update the website often but feel free to follow us on Facebook to keep up-to-date if you don't mind the weekly "We're here at the market!" posts every Saturday during the market season. Only two more weeks of that though. I promise we don't post too often.

That's awesome! Sounds like quite the undertaking.

Kraygan Steelkeg |

Let the novel commence.
That’s an awesome novel there! 6000 acres in the family business.. wow. I can’t imagine keeping track of that much land. The smaller scale garden produce model seems a lot more interesting to me, especially once you work in greenhouses, hydroponics, etc. We have 10 acres, with about 3 cleared for farming. The neighbor was using it for soybeans when we moved in, but we are planning to reclaim it and grow garden produce ourselves next spring - not for market, but more as a hobby and because my wife likes to garden.
I tracked down and followed Tuholski Produce on Facebook and look forward to seeing how things develop for you. Best of luck!

Jorgan Steelkeg |

Phew, 'gardening' the whole 3 acres will be nearly a full-time job if that's what you're planning. A little over an acre is a hefty part-time commitment for me and only possible because of teaching and being off in the summer.
Do yourself a favor and invest in some plastic mulch and maybe a dripline irrigation system if you can afford it. It will make gardening/farming at that scale 10x easier. Without it you'll need to hire someone just to keep up with the weeding. But if she likes gardening she probably already knows that.

Added ranger level 4. +1 Int added some extra skill points retro style. +1 BAB and 2 saves.
Still need to add an animal companion (something that flies, I suppose, but is it even possible in the fortress??)

![]() |

Last level: February 19, 2018.
+1 Giantal Warning Denier
+1 Int (gnoll)
+6 hp
+moar spellz
+22 Skills:
------------
+1 Perception (now +20)
+1 Know (Arcana)
+4 Know (local)
+4 Spellcraft
+1 Know (Eng)
+1 Know (Nobility)
+1 Appraise
+9 Know (Nature)

![]() |

GM: Here are 4 animal companions that I could use as a mount and gain some much needed movement assistance. Any of these reasonable given our circumstances?
Roc
Dire Bat
Gecko
Giant Raven - this won't work as a mount yet, but I could take Boon Companion next level (if there is one), so then it would.

Alysendra |

Sorry folks... was trapped in work issues. I'm not sure what I'll be like for another day or two at least, so please bot me.

![]() |

Farin- bats and ravens should be flying about easy enough. Rocs are very common in this castle as there is a trainer.

![]() |

You guys do have some Stone Shape Scrolls :).

![]() |

Did you guys wish to rest for a day for Alysendra to prepare spells to help Jorgan out?

Jorgan Steelkeg |

I've been keeping up. Just... you know... not really anything to add right now.

![]() |

Yah, me too. Not being magical in nature, I really don't have much to do. I could scout around, but I think we all know that would just result in a squished halfling...
However, if we have a day to rest, Farin will call a roc for an animal companion. Having a mount, esp with flying, would make a huge difference.

Kraygan Steelkeg |

I have to say, a level 1 animal companion at this point isn’t going to survive long. One AoE spell and it’s roast duck.
Farin could always ride with Kraygan. His yak is large enough to carry him and Farin easily.

![]() |

+1 to what Wren said. To keep a good measure in posting rate we look to be able to post at least once a day with a good push post, pushing in some sort of action or direction to propel the story forward.
This is the end game, last book, no turning back now :)
Hopefully Alysendra shows back up today for a bit of guidance as she is the only one able to free Jorgan currently.

![]() |

Alright folks I think we have waited long enough. The game needs to continue. Apologies for the delay but it seems that Alysendra contained the only chance for Jorgan to be freed. I can DMPC, though you would need to rest overnight for Alysendra to get the necessary spells. Are you willing to rest for another night for this?
