Ianna, go ahead and roll for 4 more days of spell research.

Are we skipping four more days?

No, my gameplay post should make that obvious. I'd rather just have all the rolls done for the spell research now so I can stop thinking about it.

Gotcha. I thought I might have missed a "...four days later" somewhere.

"For Rilka and Ianna and Toramin, he has distinct, individualized hand movements that seem to recognize their different stations."

Did he just give Rilka a secret Aestheric handshake? Or does Rilka have a station of which I'm unaware?

As an alchemist.

Not any more than other professions.

My apologies for the miscommunication. When I said direct, I meant he was in the front lines along with numerous others.

No worries. It makes sense in character that Koriat would say that and Toramin would imagine him slicing off their heads left and right. Shouting his defiance to the gods, Kratos style.

Will Koriat answer Toramin's question?

I probably just missed it. 19 games this weekend, it was hectic. Sorry, I'll go back and find it.

That's a lot of games!

Since Ianna basically guessed it and she has both a high sense motive and spellcraft, she knows that Koriat is under the effects of a more powerful version of Geas-Quest.

Yes, it was pretty busy. Less angry coaches than normal though, so that's always good

Dalton had a good hunch, but due to enchantment being an opposition school, I was going with him just suspecting a general enchantment. Now she's put a name on it though, that's helpful.

Has anybody seen the Strange and Norell miniseries? One woman makes a tapestry to try to communicate passed her Geas

The spell even notes that loopholes exist.

Keep brainstorming. I'm not going to give you a definite yes or no on any ideas.

Ianna is nearing the limits of what she thinks is wise concerning there lack of knowledge concerning the Geas. She also believes that Koriat needs to be more of an active partner in this thing. It is really up to Dalton, but she is willing to move on past this.

Yes, there are centers of knowledge here in Wasco. What is it you're looking for?

Toramin wants to research "Malose."

Ianna, those last restorations will get him to full strength (literally).

Ahh, researching Malose, are we? Finding a library and taking time allows you to take 20 on knowledge checks in addition to giving a bonus, provided the library has the relevant information. However in this case, Toramin finds nothing useful. He does indeed find mention of the name in a few ancient tomes about fiends and planes, but the complexities of the works escape him. The only connection he can make is between the abyssal words for "Malose" and "bastard".

Would it be helpful for him to copy the relevant passages so that those with greater learning and insight can look at it later?

Definitely! No check needed, as it's just copying a few passages.

So basically what Koriat is suffering from is a Greater Geas spell.

Greater Geas wrote:

This spell functions similarly to lesser geas, except that it affects a creature of any HD and allows no saving throw initially.

If the subject tries to disobey the geas/quest, it takes a -3 penalty to each of its ability scores. It then makes a will save equal to the DC of the spell, and if it succeeds it may spend one round disobeying the effects of the geas/quest, but it still suffers the -3 accumulating penalties. No ability score can be reduced to less than 1 by this effect unless the subject blatantly acts against the geas/quest after already being reduced to 1. The ability score penalties are removed 24 hours after the subject resumes obeying the geas/quest, unless a score has been reduced to 0.

A remove curse spell ends a geas/quest spell only if its caster level is at least two higher than your caster level. Break enchantment does not end a geas/quest, but limited wish, miracle, and wish do.

Bards, sorcerers, and wizards usually refer to this spell as geas, while clerics call the same spell quest.

Can the strictures of the Geas be understood by spell craft?

What exactly are you asking for? I thought I had included everything in my above post.

I am asking for the actual wording of this specific Geas. For example, "Never use the bathroom on Mondays." Don't reveal the Geas" etc.

What are its conditions?

That's a very good question and I don't have an answer for you. Back to the FAQ!

Ianna is really hoping that one of the conditions isn't "Don't consort with demons." :-p

Can Toramin have detected some evil when Koriat removed his medallion?

Toramin did not detect any evil.

Wait! I am wrong, I just rechecked how detect evil worked. Go ahead and RP scanning him with detect evil in gameplay.

~~~
As far as identifying the wording of the geas/quest spell, I have been unable to find anything useful on the forums, and between reading through detect magic, identify, and spellcraft, I don't think there is any way to figure it out. Perhaps a high level divination spell? I'm still open to options here, but right now I'm leaning towards a no for finding out the wording.
Toramin is with Dalton. May we say he did before they left, since I thought of it last night?
Absolutely. We're not very chronological right now since there is no imminent combat.
I don't think there's any core pathfinder spells for reading the contents of a geas but it seems reasonable that a good spellcraft check could narrow down the details.
I disagree. I think knowing the wording is too specific unless you spend significant time asking questions and studying the results of the victim of the spell, a time consuming and dangerous and expensive task.
That's your call and I don't really care enough to argue about it. I just gave my suggestion based on how I'd rule as a DM.
Also, I realize it may be the standard for the campaign but in Bjorkus's mind anyone in the high teens is approaching god-like power.
Ah, but he's not in the high teens. He's in the low teens. The only reason he successfully hunted rune giants is through dozens of allies and very careful planning. This wasn't a "party" hunting giants, they were strike forces of at least 30 people. There may be some high powered people in my campaign, but there aren't dozens of them running around together. What we're talking about is the most elite fighting forces that the elves have at their disposal.
I'm not sure Koriat's narrative spelled his whole operation super well so Bjorkus is just going by what he's been told. And regardless, low teens is silly 'legendary' according to the core expectation. It just so happens that this campaign has tons of legendary people in it.
We're still glorified commoners right?
Ok, I'm about done with all the talk about how legendary everybody is. You bring it up consistently so it's clearly something that concerns you. The ONLY difference in my campaign is that PCs are not automatically more noteworthy than NPCs. That is it. Nothing else. Just that. End of story. Let's move on.
This curse breaking would be easier with a pack of mid level Divine Strategists all piling on for the CL aid increase. :-)
Bjorkus also clued me in on Prayer Beads which seems like a worthwhile investment when Ianna has more money to her name.
Apologies. I didn’t mean to pick at a scab.
I’m just explaining my character’s understanding of the world which you seemed confused by. Koriat is a really big deal regardless of if his giant-killing days were as part of a Seal Team 6 operation or not.
Yeah, he's a big deal. But the word demigod is way off. And you guys are way more than glorified commoners, in a few more missions every one of you will be considered legendary. But let's move past that because it's really not that important.
Speaking of leveling, it's been about 4-5 months since we leveled out of game and it's not like we have been idle are we getting close to 8? I am hungry for getting my first stance ability.
