DM Omen |
Haha if only! Basically my thought process was "I'll have their vacation be a level up if they fight enough things". Well you certainly fought enough things in my opinion, so as soon as you end the vacation and return to the Aestherics you will level up. As you guys will remember, I like story arc leveling instead of strait up XP leveling.
Bjorkus |
Yeah, that's fine. Story-milestone leveling is one of the Paizo things I got attached to early myself.
I think we only mentioned XP a few times because you cited it a bunch early on in the campaign.
DM Omen |
I think we've discussed this before, but I've houseruled in a "remove scars" spell since I think you shouldn't have to do something as high as regenerate just to get rid of some scars. I don't have the specifics of it down, but it's something like a 2nd or 3rd level divine spell that removes 1 square foot of scar tissue per caster level.
Bjorkus |
A 3rd level regeneration, lesser would make sense. It could heal scar tissue and regrow small degrees of lost flesh like ears and fingers.
Did you have something specific in mind for Bjorkus’s subtle draconic ancestry? This is the level where it matters because the breath weapon and energy resistance comes online.
Bjorkus |
Oh, I thought that was just a mechanics thing. I didn’t realize you’d okay’d reflavoring the whole thing. I’m good with that.
In that case I’ll just do fire. A fire-breathing bull makes more sense than anything else.
DM Omen |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
To a certain degree it's reflavoring. To another degree, minotaurs don't have breath weapons or wings. In addition, dragons have been gone for so long that dragon-blooded class abilities don't exist. For now, I've decided on this as a replacement to the breath weapon.
At 3rd level, a minotaur disciple gains the ability to make a devastating charge once per day. To make a devastating charge, the minotaur disciple must make a charge attack. If this attack hits, it does x1.5 damage and the minotaur disciple may make a free bull rush attempt as part of this attack that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. If the target of the devastating charge is pushed into a wall or something else that stops their movement, they take 1d6 points of damage per 5 feet of movement they had left before being stopped. Once his level is high enough to grant this ability through the bloodline (normally breath weapon), he gains an additional use per day.
Edit: Forgot the last part.
Bjorkus |
Okay, here we go.
Bjorkus level 8 (Minotaur Disciple 3)
1d12 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 hp
1 skill rank (perform)
+1 BAB
+1 Fort and Will
Minotaur resistance
Devastating Charge 1/day
One new 2nd level spell (Gallant Inspiration)
+1 2nd level spell slot per day
Bjorkus |
I actually really like it. It’s both thematically appropriate and mechanically useful. I do have a couple questions.
Are you required to use any specific weapon/attack (horns for example)?
Does it follow the normal breath weapon progression (getting a 3rd use at bloodline level 17 and 4th use at bloodline level 20) or does it cap at two per day?
I reskinned dragonic resistance as minotaur resistance easily enough but what do you think of the other abilities down the line. Blindsense isn’t really a minotaur trick but it’s not a huge stretch either. Form of the Dragon should probably be replaced with something else. Monstrous Physique maybe? What about Wings?

Question:
"Smash (Ex): While in a defensive stance, the stalwart defender may make an extra attack per round that is either a shield bash or a slam (even if he doesn't normally have a slam attack). If used as part of a full attack action, the extra attack is made at the stalwart defender's full base attack bonus –5. The smash deals 1d4 points of damage (if the stalwart defender is Medium, or 1d3 if he is Small) plus half the character's Strength modifier. The character can make this attack as part of the action to maintain or break free from a grapple; this attack is resolved before the grapple check is made. If the attack hits, any grapple checks made by the stalwart defender against the target this round are at a +2 bonus."
This gives a slam attack may I make AoO with it?
Ianna Trealamhgabha |
How do you want to handle the wealth increases when Ianna hits a level? Does she use letters of credit to access a trust fund?
DM Omen |
Bjorkus - Any weapon if fine, natural or not. Same progression as breath. Resistance is fine. Blindsense will be replaced by some kind of maze/labyrinth immunity. I will be replacing form of the dragon with form of the Minotaur, specifics TBD. To replace wings I'm not sure yet. Perhaps a gore attack of a trample ability? Open for suggestions.
Toramin - I don't see why not. My verdict is yes, you can.
Ianna - This will be handled in gameplay when you return to Taryin shortly. You will be at WBL.

Rilka, if you were still interested in:
Formula Recollection
You are able to record and recall even the complex and intricate details of spellcasting.
Prerequisites: Spellcraft 5 ranks, keen recollection class feature.
Benefit: Once per day, you can record the formula for a spell that you saw being cast and identified with Spellcraft in the past 24 hours. This spell must be on the alchemist formula list.
The don't forget to take a few points of Spell Craft.
Toramin Gearsmith |
Do the Shadow Realms have their own language? If so would learning it help with the symbols?
DM Omen |
They do indeed, Shadowtongue. However it's a secret(ish) language. It's not as hard to learn as druidic or drow sign language, but it's not something you can just pick up. You have to find somebody who already knows it.
Ianna, you can go ahead and level up with the assumption that you will be able to finish your retraining before any combat.
Toramin Gearsmith |
Ok, I'm going to hold that language slot for it. Some body in the Aestherics can probably teach it to me.
Dalton Barrowwheel |
Is Dalton planning on contacting the Aestherics next?
Yes. He wanted his father out for the bit with Tiasar.
Dalton Barrowwheel |
Poor Dalton. He wanted exactly that to not happen.
Right out of the Brady Bunch.
Ianna Trealamhgabha |
I thought we were still talking to the shaman. You are surprised as I.
Though now Dalton does get the joy of teenage embarrassment concerning parental figures.
Rilka Featherfeet |
@Toramin, Formula recollection is on my plan for Rilka, next level. I’d forgotten about the Spellcraft prerequisite, so thanks.
DM Omen |
Oh, I also forgot that I need to track costly requirements for keeping you at WBL. No sense in having you guys pay a cost if you just ignore it when you level up.
If I remember correctly, Dalton and Toramin's raise dead spells were waved by Toramin's family. I'll wave the regenerate spell on Bjorkus's strix friend. Legend Lore cost 850gp. How much did the spell cost when Liamsho restructured Bjorkus's sword? I remember him giving a discount.
Toramin Gearsmith |
I urge that you reconsider, Omen, about the loot Bjorkus is collecting for upgrading his ship -- since it will not come into play as a crunch advantage.
Toramin Gearsmith |
It seems excessively punishing for his background flavor to be taxed so highly.
Toramin Gearsmith |
How is it different from Dalton's successes at business or Toramin's familial connections?
It's not granting the airship -- he will have to build influence and resources by role-playing. Please make it a role-playing challenge instead of a fiscal penalty.
DM Omen |
Dalton's successes have been through hard work and good roleplaying. Toramin's family was through the same, and I decided to cut you guys a break on the raise dead costs considering the circumstances. Bjorkus wants an airship because he wants to preserve his pirate side despite the campaign being mostly landlocked, and has done nothing to earn the equivalent of a 50k boon. If he saved a gnome city from destruction or something that would be one thing, but this is simply asking for too much. Granting him a regular ship and a loyal crew was too much, but I decided to not say anything about it. The answer is no. If you want an airship, pay for it.
Toramin Gearsmith |
Then can there be a path to work towards such a boon? I don't think he is adverse to role-playing. Nor do I think, that Bjorkus has not added greatly to the role-playing of this campaign.
Toramin Gearsmith |
Thanks for the clarification. My confusion was Toramin said previously "we heard reports that you are an accused thief" -- to my mind that gave him a great amount of leeway -- under his geas -- anything but the why and he still didn't respond. So, I appreciate your explanation otherwise Toramin would have thought Koriat was trying to trick them.
DM Omen |
Ok, let's get some things done.
Firstly, and most importantly, the airship along with other things for Bjorkus. To be absolutely crystal clear, I have nothing against you as a character or player and if I was out to get you, I would be completely blatant about it. With that said, we have vastly different ways of thinking and we often disagree about the way things should be handled. To help fix this, in the future I plan on changing my approach to answering your questions/requests/actions. Instead of just saying "No" when I disagree with you on something, I'm going to say something "No because X, but if you want to achieve that, try Y", which I may give with or without a check required. How does that sound?
Second, I need the numbers on how much money Bjorkus has earned performing and how much money Ianna has saved by crafting and how much Toramin's discount was.
Third, during the upcoming "Automatic return to WBL because Omen can't track wealth worth a s&*%", Bjorkus should plan his wealth knowing that Tyrantbreaker will be gaining an additional +1 quality to it, making it an effective +3 weapon. Will be explained later in gameplay.
Fourth, Rilka needs to update her background with the information she sent to me via a PM. I want to start getting her more heavily involved in the story and I need that information easily accessible.
Bjorkus |
Bjorkus has made 74 gold from performances and 5k gold via Ianna's crafting (2k from the circlet of guarded thoughts and 3k from the int bonus on his headband).
