Quinn holds the ladder-bridge for those who want to cross it before raising it up against the wall again. He climbs up and peeks over the parapets once again.

Skybek spies nothing amiss with the drawbridge or the gate. Quinn sees no activity in the area of the bailey near the ladder once he climbs back atop the gate.

I believe Sareth also needs to get in after making a failed wet plunge.

Omrax is going to airlift me

Apologies... it's not my custom to disappear like that. Back from travels now and getting caught up on things.

Mrachni nods and moves to accompany the dwarf to the drawbridge, keeping his eyes and nose open for signs of danger as they go.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Mrachni also has scent.

Omrax flies Sareth over and Mrachni and Skybek approach the gatehouse with trepidation. Just as they are about to cross the threshold to enter, Omrax appears above, grabs them with the lapels, and drags them into the air and into the bailey.

Only Pathfinders would see a wide open gate and go for the moat. :P

Where to? If you want to be thorough and search the whole bailey, name which building you'd like to visit first. Alternatively, you can head up the road to the tower directly.

Sareth points out some buildings to check on the way in. Numbered on the map.

Turning to the building to their immediate left, the party executes the Door Protocol (DP) and finds themselves in an empty barracks. From the door facing in toward the road, they see windows along the north and south walls, and two-dozen bunks inside each barracks. Both barracks have been ransacked, however, and there are signs of violence: smashed windows, broken furniture, dried blood smears on the floor as if a body (or bodies) were dragged outside, and so on.

The building directly across the road has the exact same layout, and shows similar signs of violence.

Continuing up the road, the party heads for a small, two-story inn that sits beside the main road that runs north-south through the bailey. All of the windows on the second floor are broken, their tattered curtains blowing through the openings. The windows on the first floor are intact, but it appears that someone nailed boards over the inside of those windows. The front door appears to have once been smashed off its hinges and then shoddily replaced. There are scorch marks and blood smears on the front porch of the inn. A sign swings on one broken chain in the wind--on it is an enormous human smile full of cartoonish teeth. Beneath the teeth it reads, The Grinning Inn.

Approaching the door, a loud scraping noise--of wood on wood--can be heard, only a moment before two furious green-skinned orcs come bursting through the door! "YOU DID THIS!!! YOU DID THIS!!! FOR THE CLAN!!!"

Quinn quickly starts dancing and draws his blade to bear against the orcs. Swift action, start battle dance "razor's kiss" to extend crit range. Move action draw weapon.

"Orcs?! I haven't seen those in... well a long time! Don't get me wrong, I see some half-kin to them, but never full on orcish ugly!"

Now armed, he slices at the red orc before him.

Quinn twirls quickly and slices towards the nearest orc! Though it proves more nimble than expected, his blade still makes a thin cut along a bulging forearm.

Skybek, draws Crimzor, his cold iron magical battle axe, steps five feet closer to the blue orc and with all of his strength (power attack) swings at the ugly fiend (blue orc).

"Ahh think it's time yae met Crimzor. Crimzor it's aboot time yae meet ugly!"

Battleaxe: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Sareth forgoes magical aid, and goes for cold steel. Nevertheless he shouts Sarenrae's name, as he swings for her glory.

Two crits!

Skybek and Sareth team up to swing hard for the nearest orc, which wears a blue sashimono on his back. Their blades bite deep! Wholly ignorant of their wounds, the orcs press forward with brutal force.

"MURDERERS!! MURDERERS!! FOR THE CLAN!!!!"

A rain of blows slam into Skybek. The dwarf gasps for air and tastes blood in his teeth--so heavy were the swings that the breath was knocked from his lungs.

"Be silent!" thunders the orcish Pathfinder in Orcish, staying his hand for the moment but knowing it is unlikely to do any good. Delaying for now, but if they don't talk...

Omrax was willing to parley until the orcs responded with deadly force.

We are no murderers. We have only just arrived to lend assistance. What murder doth thou claim? Are thou residents of this fort or dwell near by?

Omrax will delay and attack if they continue to attack.

Quinn's steps quicken, almost anxious for what happens next, but he stays his blade.

Swift: change dance to rain of blows (27/29 rounds)
Standard: Total Defense, AC 31 (25 + 4 total defense + 2 dance)

"Aye, sorry, just get a little excited, you know? Usually prefer to dance first before talking. Do... either of your dance?"

Round II

"Gulp!" Skybek gasps for air as he recovers from the deadly blow and try's to find the words that express his true feelings. Crivens! Ahh dannae ken what they're feedin these beasties, but they should be dyin frae a hit like mine, and they shouldnae be fightin back like that either!"

Skybek immediately steps back five feet and spontaneously casts cure critical wounds on himself.

"LIARS!!! THEY ATE KRUG!!! FOR THE CHIEFTAIN!!!"

Blue sashimono waving from the speed of his advance, the furious orc surprises Skybek by following him immediately (Step Up). "YOU DID THIS!!! FOR THE CLAN!!!" He brings the falchion crashing down on the dwarf.

@ Skybek: since Step Up activates before your spell, I will allow a Concentration check to cast defensively. If so, this attack applies after the rest of the party (presumably) comes off delay if Blue survives. If not, I need a Concentration check to maintain the spell at DC 45.

It seems clear that these orcs cannot be reasoned with.

Omrax will full attack the orcs.

"We offered thou a chance...but thou chose poorly."

Omrax will smite evil, but for some reason I suspect they may not be. Also, I cannot open the map on my phone so trying to hit blue but not sure He can reach.

Sareth steps back and with highly trained skill beseeches Sarenrae to heal the Chosen (quicken channel, exclude the orcs) Heal: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 5, 4) = 22.

He continues his prayers to call forth a Spiritual Weapon. The force scimitar goes to work on Blue: ATK 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17, but the blade misses.

They are evil and Omrax can five foot NW to hit blue.

To his surprise, Sareth's spiritual weapon connects! Roll damage.

Huh... DMG: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Seeing the orcs refuse the offer, Mrachni steps forward and brings his sword down hard on the orc attacking Skybek.

Boop: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Sorry - it was my turn to drive and I did not get a chance to finish the post. I was going to smite regardless and was trying to decide whether to include in the calculations or not.

Omrax will swing and smite at the orc attacking Skybek.

Just kidding, magic number is actually 18. I mistakenly assumed light sensitivity affected AC. I don't know why. @ Omrax, Mrachni took your spot. :P

Mrachni and Omrax shed their reluctance and strike out at the orcs before them!

I will wait to hear from Skybek before moving forward b/c if he fails the check he dies from the crit and Sareth may want to alter actions.

Of course! So that attack manifests as part of the orc's regular attack.

The orc swings furiously and delivers a deep (aforementioned) blow. The backstroke is lighter but still bites.

Quinn follows up with a quick nip of the orc. Only a quick one, though, as the smell emanating off of these orcs is enough to put one off his appetite...

Ha, close enough. Unexpectedly busy day, and likely not here to post later, so I'll go now. This time the cleric takes his time and again channels to heal his allies: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 1, 6) = 19

The spiritual scimitar keeps up the work on blue orc:

Mrachni continues his assault on the orc attacking Skybek, narrowing his eyes as he considers the orcs' words.

As a last spiteful effort, Quinn bites the orc in the ear--and mostly gets a mouthful of seat-soaked wax. Sareth's ghostly scimitar adds to the towering figure's many open wounds while calling down the Dawnflower's blessing.

By all accounts, this orc should have fallen. Only his sheer fury and ferocity keeps him standing.

Skybek swings as hard as he can for the orc's neck. The tusked head is shorn clean off, and in his desperation Skybek makes a second wild cut back the other way, knocking the head into the dirt some ten feet away. Omrax runs his sword through the belly of the other, where it sticks momentarily before he manages to wrench it out.

That doesn't stop the orc, though.

He steps forward, green face purple with rage. "YOU KILLED FROMM!!!! I KILL YOU!!!!"

The blade opens a deep gash behind the dwarf's collarbone, and Skybek goes down. "SEE!?! I KILLED YOU!!!" The orc loses not a moment's hesitation and whirls to attack Omrax. "FOR THE CLAN!!!"

Falchion @ Omrax: 1d20 + 13 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 13 - 1 = 28 MISS

Only by the grace of Iomedae does Omrax narrowly avoid the blade hurtling past his ear.

The paladin will wipe the blood from his smine longsword onto the fallen orc's cloak.

"Tis a shame a peaceful solution could not be reached.

One force scimitar, one real scimitar, and one longsword quickly bring down the remaining orc, who dies still cursing the new arrivals for the fate of his clan. "NO!! THE CLAN!! YOU DID THIS! YOU shall pay..."

Out of initiative!

Status:

Skybek 2/86 hp

On the dead orcs you find a total of four potions of cure serious wounds as well as some gear: two +2 chain shirts, two cloaks of resistance +1, two +1 falchions, six javelins, and 440 platinum pieces.

Since only Skybek appears to be hurt, Omrax will help him to his feet and lay hands to close one of the wounds.

"Arise, friend dwarf. The misguided orcs have left you injured, but at least on this side of the grey veil."

Hands+Mercy: 5d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 4, 3) + (4) = 17 healing
