Omrax doesn't see much in the way of loose stones, but he does what he can. After a minute of failed digging with his hands, Skybek trots over and takes Crimzor to the stones. The method of just smashing through is much faster: on the dwarf's eighth swing, the floor of the alcove gives way entirely, revealing a vertical shaft that descends into darkness well past Skybek's range of vision.
"See! Well. *gulp* Salt well. No eat. *gulp* Food!" the xorn chippers.

Omrax looks at the hole thinking it is not as bad as he thought.
We can try to climb or float down. I am going to save my fly potion in the event we need to ascend quickly. Any other strategies?"

"Okay, so little longer than a length of rope. But it seems solid enough down there. Hope it's not crawling with a swarm or anything. Oh an ooze." Omrax checks his pack but realizes he had not replaced his snapleaf.
"I guess I can jump down. Not ideal, but I am sure whomever may be waiting down there would not be expecting it. Climbing down ropes in fullplate doth not bode well.

Quinn quirks a brow at the paladin. "Really? Even at knotted rope? Should we just tie you to the end, lower you down like some deus ex machina before climbing down after you?"

After tying two knotted ropes together, Omrax volunteers to descend first--lest a fall take the rest of the party with him--and his companions follow along behind him. I'm assuming everybody can make a DC 5 climb check with a Take 10. Let me know if I'm wrong. Quinn pauses periodically to refresh his dancing lights spell.
The descent through the stone well shaft ends in a vast
cavern. Omrax plants his boots on the rock floor below with a heavy thud. The walls, floor, and ceiling are a glistening, crystalline white, and the entire chamber is smoothly sculpted into a wonderland of salt snowdrifts, high embankments, and perilous slopes in a winter mountainscape frozen in stone. The beauty of the scene is marred only by the debris and filth gathered in the hollow below the ledges that surround this chamber.
He has only a moment to take in the scenery before Skybek lands beside him. All of a sudden a great darkness smothers Quinn's lanterns! Skybek and Mrachni, with eyes long accustomed to the dark, look frantically about from the source of this foul magic!
