Woot thanks GM... now not that I'm being greedy, just want to make sure that the xp awarded included Teb Knotten, and Hommulstab. I looked back and didn't see anything listed for them.
+2 to an ability!!!!! SWEET!!!!!!

GM thunderspirit |

It's an unnamed Adventure Path benevolent divinely arcane inherent compensation for accepting the geas. ;-)
And yes, that's xp for all the encounters here in the Portal area.

Vojtek Wartooth |

Ooc - Vojtek asked about a white dragon during the conversation phase of the encounter but I didnt post it till after the dude died. Can he respond in some way?

Are we expected to jump through the portal now?
"This undertaking will require supplies and might. We ought to divvy up this treasure and prepare for a date with Destiny, and it looks like she ordered the lobster."
Davosh says the above with a deadpan expression, not understanding that he made a funny.

Now are we gonna gather together and kick some Casanova Frankestein butt...or am I gonna EAT this sandwich?!?!
On treasure: before the split is announced, please check my Undivided Loot spoiler on my profile. Anything with a gp value after it, is slated to be sold--so if there's something there you want, say so.
anything without a GP value after it, we keep. If you specifically want it, say so so I can keep the list up to date.
Also, GMT--what is the nature of the piece of canvas we found in that cave? And, is there any gp value of the spiffy iron coffer?

GM thunderspirit |

The canvas unfurls to reveal a sizable painting of a city draped in white snow. It's perhaps of value (100 gp, maybe?) to an interested art collector. The iron coffer is rather simple and crudely fashioned, so its value is minimal.

Does this seem to be something that strikes any of us as an "important" piece of information/a clue? Or simply a piece of art that snow-loving pixies who would share their love of the White Stuff with the rest of the mortal world, would have in their treasure trove?

Looking at each person Might I remind you all that we have a previous obligation to the town of Heldren. We must complete that before we go through the portal. I have no intention of delaying our stay there, but we need to inform the leaders of the town of our discoveries. Less they send other poor souls out searching.

Davosh the Wanderer |

GM thunderspirit |

So the plan is to return to Heldren before entering the Portal?

![]() |

We can probably find some cold iron in Whitethrone right before we steal Baba Yaga's hut.
Possibly Kappi, but if Whitethrone is occupied with lots of Fey I would think they would frown upon, if not outlaw cold iron, and just go with regular steel?
knw local whitethrone: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

GM thunderspirit |

Should be Kn (geography), not (local). But the modifier is the same, I think.
Edward knows that Whitethrone is the capital city of far-off Irrisen, but nothing more than that.
The party marks their place on Davosh's map and makes the journey back to Heldren. Where are you headed first?

GM thunderspirit |

Time spent in Heldren before indicated little in the way of cold iron; only Isker Euphram, the town smith, had any (10 +1 sling bullets), but he also indicated he might be able to source more upon your news that evil fey were about.
You also had a line on some weapon blanch from the apothecary in town.

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

(I hate when our network eats long posts, grrr...)
1) Ali will make another attempt to Identify the gem we found in the Haunt on page 25.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
She will then hand it to Davosh. Care to take another look at this?I think I've got something in my eye...
2) Everyone please check the Undivided Loot spoiler in my profile. Everything we've found is there. Items without a gp value listed are items I'm assuming we woudl not sell; those *with* a gp value are things we likely will, or might, sell. If there's something there you want, claim it publically so I can note it before making the split.
3) If Isker's daughter came back with either cold iron arrows, or enough raw materials to satisfy everyone's desires for c.i. weapons that I can get some made, I'll do that; otherwise, ali will purchase one of the weapon blanches, and apply it to 10 of her arrows.

GM thunderspirit |

Quick maths: two days to the portal, two days back; so Xan would not yet be back from Zimar (probably two more days).

I'd argue that's worth waiting for. Anyone disagree?
and identify attempts can be made each day, so Day 2 might see a better result!
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 <---:-p or not

GM thunderspirit |

Heh. :-)
But no matter; the Spellcraft check for the gem from the doll is higher than 17. Significantly higher.

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

in that case..
Davosh gives it a go.
Spellcraft, day 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
and since he had something in his eye as well...
Spellcraft, day 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
sonovacrap, I can't roll above a 10 to save my effing life

GM thunderspirit |

I think that was Ali's suggested plan, though I don't think anyone ever seconded it.

Vojtek Wartooth |

I think that was Ali's suggested plan, though I don't think anyone ever seconded it.
Glad you didn't succumb to a hail of bullets :)
Vojtek fourths the idea.

GM thunderspirit |

I try to avoid bullets when possible. ;-)
Returning to Heldren, the party is greeted rather warmly by Councilwoman Teppen, who is anxious for news. She is somewhat dismayed at what you relay, but is grateful to you for removing the threat of Teb Knotten. Ice trolls sound dangerous, she quips. I am certainly glad Heldren is not going to learn just how dangerous.
Down time waiting for Xan's return is spent with some celebratory imbibing at the Silver Stoat, with Ali and Davosh making a stop at Old Mother Theodora's to learn of the doll's gemstone eye.
The crone greets you at her door, and even invites you inside for tea. As pleasantries are exchanged and you relate some details of your journey through the Border Wood, the mood remains rather light; the party has survived, after all, so tension is rather minimal.
When Ali produces the gemstone eye, however, a cloud comes across the old woman's face. She studies it a long while, her eyes slowly drifting back to Ali as she speaks. This is no simple fancy bauble, child of Kyonin. Do you not know you hold a tiny prison in your hand? Taking Ali's look of wonder as a negative reply, she continues. This doll you destroyed was a soulbound doll — it can only be created by one who bounds a fragment of a creature that must die at some point during the creation of the doll. There can be no greater evil in the world.
She looks at the gem again, lost in thought. Was there but one eye?

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

The other eye was a scrying device. We assumed it was something we didn't want ot have lying around, or on our person, so we destroyed it.
Ali holds the blue gem with a touch of reverence that was not there before. Is there anythingn we can do for this soul, Mother?

![]() |

While talking with the council woman. Your welcome Madam Teppen it was our honor to remove Teb Knotten from this realm. Just so you know we have dedicated ourselves to closing the portals. This can only be done from the other side so we will be taking our leave soon.
I do have a suggestion or two to help Heldren. First is to find some other hearty individuals to stand vigilant guard at the portal. More of these winter touched creatures can come through at any time. Second your nobility here can fund the next two items. First stem the flow of winter into this area by putting some kind of shell around the portal to stop magic from working. Next in case that doesn't work, then I would create some kind of magical cage or cube to put around it that things can't leave that area.
I do want to thank the town of Heldren for trusting us to help protect the people here.Thank you for your confidence in us. These portals are all over Golarion, spread the information to the other Kingdoms so they can help stop the Witches from Irrisen from spreading winter everywhere.
With that Edward continues the conversation until it concludes and then assists any of his friends who needs it.
I saw your suggestion for weapon blanch. I was curious about it so I followed the link. I might be wrong, but isn't 20G for a dose of the stuff for cold iron is highway robbery? It only lasts till your first successful attack roll. You can get a Cold Iron Longsword for 30G. I propose a rule change that it lasts 1 encounter for 20G how does this sound?

Davosh the Wanderer |

This is going to sound weird, but I like that it's highway robbery. It makes real versions of the weapons way less cool.
Davosh looks intently at the mother's answer to Ali's question.

Vojtek Wartooth |

Vojtek suggests, "I recommend lighting a series of fires to hold off the magic winter." The barbarian nods emphatically. After a few moments he elaborates to dispel the blank looks he is getting, "fire is where you make it."

GM thunderspirit |

Destroying it was wise, child. You can be assured you do not want to meet whoever was on the other end of this thing's creation.
She falls silent, considering Ali's question for a long moment. Finally, she speaks again. The gem does not trap the soul and keep it from reaching its destination — it is no longer here. If you wish, however, you may crush it to release the shard within.
Regarding the blanch, it's admittedly more cost effective for arrows than for melee weapons, but it is an alternative when cold iron is scarce. We can revisit the blanch after Xan returns to Heldren if you want.

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

ohh thought we have waited for that to happen. Anyone have any business here to conduct? Ali treasure split?
Destroying the blue gem, and selling everything else except the following (which is now in "Group Treasure" spoiler--and I noted that Edward took an Alch fire):
Greenblood Oil, 3 doses
Oil of Taggit, 2 doses
Alchemical fire - | | |
3 oils of Magic Weapon
the treasure comes to 5,227 gp, 5 sp. which splits to 1045 gp 5 sp a share.

GM thunderspirit |

ohh thought we have waited for that to happen.
Yep.
Down time waiting for Xan's return is spent with some celebratory imbibing at the Silver Stoat, with Ali and Davosh making a stop at Old Mother Theodora's to learn of the doll's gemstone eye.
This is an interscene part.

Kappi Matarito |

The Varisian youth stands patiently while Ali pulls out every one's share of the treasure. Kappi smiles and holds his hands out like a good boy about to be given a small pittance on festival day for some sweets. The rogue takes his cut and steps a few paces away and starts to count it. His deft fingers quickly realize its over a thousand gold.
The others hear a strange choking sound and turn to see Kappi having some sort of episode.
Kappi tries to make a save to keep from passing out when he realizes how much money he can now call his own.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Looking shockingly pale especially for his olive complexion, Kappi tucks the money pouch into his sash and pulls the scarve from his head to mop up the sweat from his face. Taking several deep breathes the color slowly returns to the young lad's face. Seeming to have regained control of himself he pulls out a fresh scarve and ties it up around his head again.
I know was the one who found and opened the chests and coffers. But to actually have so much for my very own is just... The rogue shakes his head dumbly having trouble with the words.

![]() |

Edward is watching Kappi's and his reaction to the riches, and is having some of the same feelings. Kappi, you'll be ok my friend. These are the spoils for vanquishing evil, use them to prepare yourself to do some more vanquishing. Also it's a good idea to remember to tithe some to whichever God you believe in.
With that Edward takes his share and ponders what to do with it. Obviously in a similar state of amazement as Kappi.

Davosh the Wanderer |

Do we have a summary of what's available for purchase? I know I've asked about a wand of CLW, but don't remember the answer.

![]() |

A quick google search turned up this info.. I guess we could check each out and see what they have for sale. Plus it's a good reminder of what's in this town, since our first posts were 11 months ago.

heh. hit my funny bone. Reminds me of a few years back when I played a teenager who ran away from home to be a warrior. He reacted similarly when he made his first kill of a sentient being.

GM thunderspirit |

Good thing Kappi's in a town of Heldren's size and not someplace rife with, shall we say, myriad means of relieving him of that coinage. Sometimes with a necessary trip to the cleric's afterward to clear up a mysterious rash... ;-)
Councilwoman Teppen assures Edward she shall take his suggestions regarding the portal "under advisement."
Xan's return to Heldren (with her mule Jana? Okay, no, not really) provides the party access to a cold iron handaxe (which closely enough resembles Kappi's tomahawk to work), a cold iron heavy flail, and enough cold iron ingots to enable Iskar to make one masterwork light or one-handed melee weapon or 25 masterwork arrows.

Vojtek Wartooth |

"How much for this?" Vojtek holds up the heavy flail with interest.
