But is it still only a dc 10 to convert it to a trimaran? (A sort of tri-hulled sailing boat) I would imagine that to be a bit more work than just patching the hole (But be a lot faster than a canoe)
Also, would my profession sailor skill work here, or do I need to find someone with craft woodworking or something?
Also also. Is the skill check a one time thing, or is it like Deth said a prolonged effort?
Also also also. I seem to remember you being able to craft faster by adding to the dc, is that possible here too?
What rules are we using for this again? I couldn’t find anything about it in the downtime section, and it seems like the sort of thing I should probably give a read.
But if I’m not completely off, I need one unit of goods for materials, and then complete a series of 6 dc 10 checks of the relevant skill to upgrade the boat?
Delia Everheart
Okay, I believe I understand these rules a little better now. So, for every day of working at the dig site I'll need to spend 1 point of Labor. Currently, Delia has no Labor points built up so I will need to spend some GP to purchase some at the Earned Cost of 10gp. Now, to earn Labor points I will also need to make an appropriate skill check to determine how many Labor points I can purchase in a day, correct? I think my best bet would be to use Diplomacy since it has the highest modifier of the listed skills.
Day 1-4: Obtain Labor
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
That will net me 1 Labor Point for 10gp
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Purchase 2 Labor Points for 20gp
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Purchase 2 Labor Points for 20gp
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Purchase 1 Labor Point for 10gp
For a total of 60gp spent out of her pocket, Delia is able to gather up 6 Labor points by moving through the colony with the interested Carver Hastings and pouring out her heart on the absolute need to move on this site while the have the chance. "Imagine being part of the expedition that unearths more information than any other upon the topic of Azlant! All that asset will have their names adding to my journal and you will receive credit for your assistance in this endeavor!"
So, I'll then spend the next 6 days at the dig site with the folks I was able to gather to assist at my site. She would likely invite Lyra and Perrell to join her in the excavation if they are willing to become involved and assist. Furthermore, Delia makes it clear that while she would very much appreciate their assistance, this is her site and any negative involvement would quickly earn them a dismissal.
Day 5-10: Excavation!
The Research Lore has three different options that don't quite fit the bill, but I'm assuming Knowledge: History is going to the preferred skill in use here. If I'm wrong, please do let me know, Striker! Also, since we are out in the wilderness, I'm assuming she would not gain the +5 bonus outlined in several of those options.
Knowledge: History Day 5: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Knowledge: History Day 6: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 1 = 18
Knowledge: History Day 7: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 2 = 22
Knowledge: History Day 8: 1d20 + 8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 3 = 19
Knowledge: History Day 9: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 4 = 24
Knowledge: History Day 10: 1d20 + 8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 5 = 18
Now, I'm not sure how successful any of these will be, so I didn't quite want to add any additional roleplay to this, but I think it would be a great time to delve into Delia's personality a bit more. In the future with Downtime, I would definitely love to get a better idea of what DC would constitute a success or failure so I can add some flavor to those rolls! :)
Lastly, after a long week of digging at the site and returning (hopefully successful) Delia will spend a few days performing and invites Ramona to join her in a few duets if interested.... (I noticed the colonist report mentions she is a bard and has a "fine singing voice". I figured she would appreciate the opportunity to work together with another singer!
Perform: Sing Day 11: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 Earned 1.8gp
Perform: Sing Day 12: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 Earned 1.2gp
Perform: Sing Day 13: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 Earned 2.5gp
Perform: Sing Day 14: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 Earned 1.3gp
Total amount of GP earned from singing is 6.8gp
So Delia currently has 89.31gp to her name.

@Aenon: Repair DC I think was listed in the adventure as far as converting it would be a craft ship check some example ones were found in the skull and shackles players guide. Link on PFSRD
@ Delia DC20 to uncover information like shards or fragments DC30 to find something special. Hence the cumulative bonus.
Momo Duline
I'm new to Kingmaker so walk me through it.
Since Momo has spent the majority of her time helping chop trees and build, what kind of skill would that be? Carpentry?
Also, reading the Book or Erastil before bed every night is a +1 to Knowledge Religion(?) and can she pick Erastil as her God now?
Lastly, what do you want to count Momo's trapping as? An increase in friendliness with certain colonists?
Aenon Malas
Damn, I think I would need craft ship to do it myself. Is there a way to substitute me rolling for a set amount of labour capital?
GM Striker
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Craft Carpentry, Craft woodworking, Profession Lumberjack, ect. There are 11 carpenters in the group so while you can try and help you would better use your time doing things your character is good at. :)
Studying the text for an hour grats a +2 Knowledge (Religion) checks or information regarding Erastil, his followers, or entities within his domains for 24 hours. You are more than welcome to worship Erastil.
As for a mechanical effect of your efforts, you could use your profession (Trapper) to generate gold, (or other capital) you could use to improve the colony.
Downtime rules from Ultimate Campaign.
Link
If you want to generate gold you take the result of your check and divide by 10 for your day's results. (Or you can make 1 check for the week and your skill check is the total gold you earn)
You can also work to earn capital in other forms such as goods, labor, influence, or magic. These also have an associated cost in gp that represents the raw material being used to create it.
DC 10 earns 1 point of capital
DC 20 earns 2 ect...
For example, if you want to help feed and clothe the colony you can use profession(Trapper) to generate goods.
You currently have a +6 so you could roll
profession(Trapper): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
or just take 10 on it. profession(Trapper): 10 + 6 = 16
The earned cost of 1 point of goods is 10gp
So by spending 10gp and a day's effort trapping you earn 1 point of goods. (Profession skills can generate Goods, Labor or influence, your choice. )
So over 6 days, you can generate 16gp, 1 goods (costs 10gp). This leaves with a net gain of 6gp and can enjoy a well earned day off.
You could "donate the hides and meats" to generate goodwill and make friends represented by Influence or use the increase in supplies to free up workers for other projects represented by Labor. I hope that clears up a little of the confusion.
Over the course of the adventure, you can use this capital to construct personal buildings, start a business, create an organization... there are tons of possibilities.
GM Striker
Damn, I think I would need craft ship to do it myself. Is there a way to substitute me rolling for a set amount of labor capital?
The ship costs 1 Labor to repair (or 1 magic). 2 Labor, 1 Goods to modify.
There's plenty of carpenters who could do the job in the colony they just would have to be pulled from making the homes or palisade.| Aenon Malas |
Ok, let’s see if we can get through this (I think It’ll have to be a two parter though)
Gathering capital (Day 1 - 2)
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
2 Labour for 20 gp
Prof. Sailor: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
1 Goods for 10 gp
After returning from their adventure with scuttles, Aenon already feels the call of the open ocean, and its song will not cease. One thing is clear, if he is to stay in this colony, he will need a boat. Over supper, despite his usual aversion to strangers, he manages to make a deal with one of the carpenters, and them next day sees him marking trees and making a simple map of the forest skirting the colony.
The next day is spendt alternately arguing and pleading with Ramona about the colonys need for a faster boat, and how its reach would greatly benefit the colonys expansion. The second she relents, Aenon is out the door to grab his carpenter and get to work.
So that’s the boat started. I’m not sure how long it would take, but I was thinking about spending that time gathering influence and using it to do Knowledge Geography research with a +5 (at least that was how I understood the research rules). Could that research be grabbing someone like Lyra (If she doesn’t join Delias expedition) and sailing around the island on a surveying expedition?
Momo Duline
Week 1: Profession (Trapper): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 1 unit
Week 2: Profession (Trapper): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 1 unit
So is a week's worth of supplies like a crate of something?
Momo will donate the meats but keep the hides she gains from Trapping. After Momo has enough hides to make a fur blanket, she will donate the rest to the colony. Also, Momo will take Sunday off to relax with Scuttles and talk to her fellow colonists.
Aenon Malas
@Striker Anyways, any thoughts on the later part of my downtime week?
Aenon Malas
I got someone to begin building the boat, but I have no idea how long it would take to finish it. I didn’t really find any rules for exploring, but I was thinking that if it works anything like research, I’d spend the time waiting for the boat to finish by gathering influence, and then ‘research’ by spending influence.

Fishing for the colony (Day 3)
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Having finally found someone to help with his boat, Aenon immediately gets to work raising it from the ocean. As daylight fades he swims along the ocean floor, suddenly noticing that there seems to be fewer fish than usual. Wearily he returns to work, but only moments later, a small tiger shark springs from the shadows, and only his water sense lets him notice it in time to avoid having his arm bitten off. The timely arrival of the carpenter (Who probably should have a name) keeps Aenon from becoming dinner, and together they harpoon the beast and pull it onto land. They lie exhausted on the beach for a while before deciding that the poetic justice demands that the shark become dinner, and off they go to share their catch.
Day off(Day 4)
Deciding that one maritime close encounter is enough for a while, Aenon spends the next day doing as little as possible. Realizing that Delia is leaving on her expedition, he gathers what was left of the ale and tries to give her a propper sendoff.
More fishing(Day 5-7)
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Still rattled by his last swim, Aenon decides that fishing from land, while less rewarding, is also less likely to involve any sharks. He finds the fishing basket from their first day on the island and gets fishing. He also makes sure to always be within a stonesthrow away from the boat, should his new carpenter friend need his help.
Gather capital (Day 8)
Prof. Sailor: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Gained 2 influence for 30 gp
As work on the boat continues, Aenon can barely hold back his excitement. A random encounter with Ramona turns into a long discussion on how best to use the boat and what sites the colony would benefit most from exploring. By the time they part ways, most of the day has passed and Aenon wanders off to find something to eat.
Yet more fishing (Day 9-11)
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Gained 10.1 gp in total
Aenon spends the next couple of days fishing and working on the boat. One day, as he is about to finish up, Momo appears out of nowhere, eager for a swim. Aenon gladly joins her, carefully waiting untill she’s in the water before telling about the shark.
Gather more capital (Day 12)
Prof. Sailor: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 Gained 1 influence for 15gp
Having promised themselves away, the carpenter is nowhere to be found when Aenon gets down to the beach this morning. Deciding he’s done enough fishing for a while, Aenon decides to go looking for the carpenter. They discus/argue sails and rigging with anyone who dare come too close, and by the time the dinnerbell rings, most of the colony have been unwillingly familiarized with at least a dosen different sail-types.
By the end, Aenon has 3 influence and 54 gp to his name
Delia Everheart
Also, any indication on what Delia would have unearthed at her excavation site with her successful rolls, Striker?
GM Striker
Thanks for the reminder, yes you did find a few things.
Knowledge: History Day 7: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 2 = 22
Two days into the dig you uncover a blade of exquisite craftmanship surprisingly untarnished despite the time. The blade is a pale green crystal, the handle polished ebony.
Knowledge: History Day 9: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 4 = 24
You find a cracked vial, though upon a closer inspection you find that the seal is still sound and there is a liquid within.
Aenon Malas
Oh, right. That's a thing you people do. Have a great thingy ^^
Aenon Malas
I'm from the middle of Norway. Glad to hear you're enjoying yourselves.
Just out of curiosity, what does one do on thanksgiving? Is it the standard holiday tradition of gathering family and eating oneself into a coma?
Momo Duline
I think every family is a little different, but typically people travel to their closest relatives' house for an early dinner (2-4pm.) In the morning we eat a late breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, toast) and watch the Macy's Day Parade on tv. Then we go outside and toss a football or throw a frisbee. The turkey cooks while we all hang out (typically whoever wakes up first puts the bird in the oven to cook.)
Around 2pm there's a football game on tv but we're not big football fans in my family (some families are big sports fans so they watch the game while hanging out.) So instead, we play board games (Settlers of Catan, Machi Koro, etc.) but the tv is usually on for background noise unless we are eating. The news stations talk about Thanksgiving related things - I don't really pay attention so idk what its about but it's fluff/pointless chatter. Around 3 we eat traditional American Thanksgiving foods: turkey, mashed potatos, green bean casserole (my favorite), stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, cheesecake. (My boyfriend and his family love to bake so yesterday we spent the whole day baking. In December the whole family gets together for an all-day Cookie Bake. We'll have 15ish different cookies or biscuits we make from scratch.)
I feel like you have to eat early to be able to digest - plus time to travel home if you're not staying with the relative hosting. Luckily we're staying the night. We're returning home tomorrow morning with a ton of leftovers. Every year we end up eating turkey sandwiches for a couple weeks post-Thanksgiving. I don't eat more than normal, but for me at least, it's more of a sampling of everything on Thanksgiving - because there is so much to choose from (except green bean casserole. I loooove green bean casserole.)
But the whole day - at least for me - is about being with family the being thankful for what you have (your health, family, friends, occupation.) Also, I used to work in retail so on principle, I refuse to be a part of Black Friday.
Aenon Malas
Nice, sounds like a blast. Though it does sound more or less like how we celebrate christmas (Only for about a week, with more gifting and less Am.football). On that note, is christmas more of the same? Sort of a rethemed thanksgiving or do you do something completely different?
I’ve never really understood the whole black friday thing though. (Despite it starting to become a thing over here too =( )
Momo Duline
That’s a good way to think of it. Christmas is a repackaged Thanksgiving with extra traditions tacked on. There is more food variety, so instead of turkey, we might have ham or beef. All the same sides though. Then there is the Christmas tree which can be a real or fake pine. Real trees you can buy at the grocery store or go to a tree nursery and chop it down yourself.
At the mall Santa makes an arrival (usually before Thanksgiving.) Santa arrives in a helicopter or an expensive car (which is ridiculous, I know) and people actually wait out in the cold to see it. Some parents really get into it by taking a bite out of a cookie left for Santa or making reindeer prints in the snow outside. (Side note, it doesn’t normally snow a decent amount where I live – Virginia - until January or February so we don’t really have a “white Christmas.”)
Christmas is for people to meet up with family, have a week-long vacation from work, and spoil children. Kids will get big ticket toys like a game system, a big doll house, or power wheels (look it up, they are awesome.) We’ll be out of town for that entire week, staying with a relative. Relaxing, baking cookies, playing board games, watching movies, going for walks on the beach (our relative lives on the shore but it’s still really cold), talking, etc.
Delia Everheart
Sorry for my slow posting, this past week has been very busy with work due to the holidays...
Appraise: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Delia would ask around to see if anyone might be able to identify the dagger and will check the vial to see if it radiates any magical properties. If so... Nox could you identify it for me, pretty please?
Aenon Malas
I don’t really have much use for either of the magic items, so I’ll pass.
