Whiskeyjack moved into the building with Arval, gritting his teeth against the cold of the water.

"I donnae think tha' we'll be gettin' up tha' stairway any time soon. Th' collapse looks pretty total from 'ere. What d' ye see up there, lad?"

.

Arval and Whiskey stop short of the corner, peering around. They spot double doors, bound in iron, which are barred from the outside.

Arval gets some water in his eyes as Eldon flails around, which proves to be his undoing. As he steps forward, the floor suddenly gives out from beneath him! Worse yet, creatures below the surface burst into motion, swimming rapidly upwards to grab at Arval's legs.

This barnacle-encrusted walking corpse looks like a zombie, but is dripping with water and gives off a nauseating stench.

.

Eldon - yeah. They're pretty chaotic as they all try to pile onto Arval and it's not too much difficulty to grab one whilst bouncing off of the bottom.

Wren's acid arrow plops into hte water, harming nothing while Arval continues to struggle against the Draugr. Whiskeyjack swings out, but attacking into the water with the draugr around proves to be extremely difficult, and he nearly loses his hammer. Whilst awkwardly treading water, Eldon bravely reaches into the water, grabbing a draugr's hand! A horrid scream ripples through the water as Eldon's positive energy badly harms the creature.

I haven't actually talked rules for poor Arval here, who is in full plate and trying to stay afloat. That said, because he's in still water and against a wall he'll take a -2 to hit, -2 to damage rather than -2 to hit and half damage.

Eldon takes a step back, allowing Kawrock to move in to attack. Arval and Whiskeyjack lay waste to the draugr, who prove to be ineffectual when they aren't dragging someone to his horrible death. With their reactive attacks, followed by hard, vicious blows they make quick work of the undead.

End of Combat

To the north is a door leading to the southeast tower. It is closed, but the bars are on this side. A quick check of the door and the bar is lifted, and the door swings open.

This circular chamber is empty save for dark water. Two doors sit high up on the walls north and west. A bit of railing extends from the doors into nothingness. Apparently there was once a walkway which has been destroyed.

This hallway is a mirror of the east branch, and Kawrock immediately spots an identical pit trap in the floor.

After the pit trap, the group are a little more wary as they move forwards. Kawrock's keen eyes spots the trap - another pit in the corner opposite to the one that had the draugr in it. The western hallway ends at yet another iron-bound door, barred from the outside.

There's a pit trap you can inspect or avoid, and another door you can easily enter.

"Anyone have a way to secure this pit trap? I'd hate to open these doors to find something nasty and get stuck with a active trap at my back." Kawrock says as he points out the pit trap.

.

The group take a look over the pit trap, someone who was good at disabling devices may be able to break the mechanism, however the trap does only open inwards. Whatever is down there is trapped down there until someone steps on it.

Getting past the pit trap, the group get to the next door, swinging it open and revealing another room, much like the first.

A rotting stench comes from a trio of headless, apelike creatures inside heavy iron cages. The waters lap against these corpses, while the twisted remnants of an iron walkway lie half-submerged in the water. Two doors sit high in the north and east walls, thirty feet above the floor. Beyond, the top of the tower is shrouded in darkness.

Wren waits for the brutes to wade in first, then follows. She is ready to continue on, despite her dampness.

Wren examines the headless apes. Are they naturally headless? Or have they been beheaded? Are their brains just very small? Like that of a chicken or kawrock?

As Eldon looks over the water, it is apparent that the water is a breathtaking three feet deep. Quite a deep swim.

Eldon moves up next to Whiskey, ready to latch onto the dwarf's arm as soon as swimming has to be done.

.

Eldon and Lena cling to the front-liners as they wade through the water. As the group steps in, there's a horrid hooting, and winged shapes fly in from the ceiling! Looking up, they see a strange, hideous site. The heads of the apes appear to have detached, grown wings, and are now flying down to end you all!

Knowledge Planes DC 13:

These are vargouilles, that appear to have been created from the ape-creatures. THey are famous for their ability to propagate their own kind through paralysis and a disgusting kiss that causes a wasting disease.

Wren, ARval, and Whiskeyjack are up! The flying heads are 20' above the water.

"Oh dearie! Vargouilles! We shouldn't let them kiss us! In fact, Arval, we should try to kill them quickly!" Wren chitters helpfully.

"It is best to use <blank> weapons to kill them!" Knowledge question: Overcome DRs? Fill in the blank above.

.

Any weapon will work against a vargouille. There's not too much else for knowledge, so Wren does pick up that vargouilles let out a horrible shriek to paralyze their victims, which makes them vulnerbale to the kiss.

Eldon also recognizes the flying heads and elaborates on the kissing part.

"If they paralyze one of us, try to prevent them from kissing that person! Else he or she will also turn into a vargouille!"
